YMMV / Stan Frederick

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • "Get Your Shit Together" by Pillowfight, as featured in the second season.
    • Season 3's premiere continues the trend with "Used To Think".
    • Appropriately for an episode featuring Time Travel, "44. Support Group" opens with Alan Silvestri's Back to the Future theme.
  • Complete Monster: Connor Dwight, aka Lines, is Stan's brother-in-law and his most personal foe. Haunted by the Slender Man since his childhood, Connor is responsible for murdering his parents and sacrificing the lives of 13 children to appease the Slender Man in return for his own safety. Connor is also known for inflicting violence upon those who refuse to join him, murdering an innocent vlogger and torturing a boy for declining his offer. When Stan decides to stop being his partner-in-crime, Connor kidnaps his own twin sister and threatens to murder her if Stan doesn't sacrifice a child to prove his loyalty. Returning from the grave to haunt Stan and ruin his life once and for all, Connor begins picking off Stan's close friends as revenge for having defeated him in the past.
  • Crack Ship: Stan/The Rake.
I hope the line "say my name" is in [a fanfic about the pair] or what's the fuckin' point
  • Harsher in Hindsight: During the events of "Neighbors", Stan attempts to meet up with a reclusive Noah Maxwell, who refuses to allow Stan in, citing him as "the last fucking person" he wants to talk to. The scene hits much harder after Adam Rosner was revealed to be a serial rapist, groomer, and pedophile in mid-2020, which resulted in him scrubbing all traces of himself on the internet and becoming a Persona Non Grata within The Slender Man Mythos.
  • Narm: While Patrick's return is very dramatic, his Wham Line is a bit too close to "No this is Patrick" to be taken completely seriously. It doesn't help that the same meme was already popular amongst fans of the character's home series.
  • Special Effects Failure: Very mild, but the Slender Man is obviously digital in "Just Another Investigation" (the main image of this page is taken from a screenshot of the episode). The rest of his appearances are pretty convincing, though.
    • The practical mannequin does do a great job of looking creepy, but, in some shots, it does noticeably wobble due to wind and other factors.
  • Squick: Right after Stan shoots himself in "Amendments", you can hear his brain squishing like a wet sponge if you listen closely enough.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: While it was likely done for the sake of not derailing both this series and Everyman HYBRID, it's still somewhat disappointing that Stan never gets to encounter HABIT at any point in the series, especially since he's closely connected to both Slender Man and the Rake. The closest we get is a wink and a nod in Season 2, and a brief discussion surrounding him in Season 3. Word of God eventually confirmed that he did try to get HABIT to make an appearance, but the idea fell through due to creative differences with Evan Jennings.
  • Tear Jerker: "Susan Frederick" hits hard, with Stan's slow discovery that his wife is dead, through his own fault. It gets so bad that he practically begs the Slender Man to take him. He doesn't.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Noah Maxwell and Michael/Patrick Andersen's voice cameos in Unsatisfied Customers were quite the welcome surprise for long-term Slenderverse fans.
    • While exploring random dimensions in Fiftieth Percent, Evan and Serana discover none other than Mary's house from Hi I'm Mary Mary, hearing her screaming that matches up with the events of "the last 8 months".
    • Vincent of Everyman HYBRID makes a surprise cameo in Pit Stop, where he asks Evan to take him with him in an attempt to escape from the basement. Sadly no appearances from HABIT, although Evan does ask where he can find him.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: While a bit shaky in earlier videos, Valeria Santiago is eventually able to master the Mind Screw distortion and video effects that are prevalent in Marble Hornets and Tribe Twelve. She even surpasses the latter series in a few areas!
