YMMV / Muselk

Go To

  • Broken Base: Between viewers who claim his videos are too much like Star's, those who argue Muselk's videos are distinct in their own right, and those who say he's not enough like STAR_, disliking his more boisterous manner and wanting a Deadpan Snarker STAR_ replacement.
    • In a recent video, Muselk stated he would be taking a break from TF2 indefinitely in favor of other games. Coupled with the abundance of Overwatch content on his channel recently, the TF2 part of his fanbase did not take lightly to this.
      • The base broke a second time when Muselk began uploading Fortnite videos to the exclusion of both Overwatch and TF2.
    • As entertaining as Muselk's Overwatch shenanigans are, some viewers are not amused by the fact that he is performing all this in Competitive where everyone else is playing to win. While these are sometimes Crazy Enough to Work and his team pulls through, those who take Competitive more seriously see them as a form of "throwing" the match.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Ever since resident Mercy Oasis's adorable giggle was showcased in an Overwatch video (that caused him and the whole group to go crazy), her popularity has skyrocketed among the fanbase, with half of the comments in the videos often amounting to "Oasis is cute", "her voice is adorable", and "does she have a channel?". Muselk himself is aware of it and noted that the top comment for one of his videos was a timeline of Oasis's laughs.
    • BlackBluesPlayer started out as a random Counter Strike player who, as his name suggests, broke out into random blues singing throughout the game. Fans found him so entertaining, that he eventually found a spot in Muselk's crew of recurring characters.
  • Even Better Sequel: A number of people seem to prefer the second channel MoreMuselk over the first channel Muselk, due to MoreMuselk being more similar to the older Muselk videos.
  • Fan Nickname: "Moosetits", a corrupted version of "Moose Elk", one pronunciation of Muselk's name.
  • Follow the Leader: On both sides of this:
    • He admitted he started making TF2 videos after being inspired by Star, and draws some inspiration from Jerma as well.
    • Whenever he makes a video about what in his opinion is a strong loadout, it becomes significantly more popular. When he and STAR_ did a video on post-Gun Mettle Air Strike, the price on the Steam market doubled.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In one of his Tryhard Tuesday videos, Muselk was hitting his Mini-Sentry with a Gunslinger when it was building. While this speeds up the building process, it didn't use to work on a Mini. Key words: "didn't use to" - this was changed in the Gun Mettle update released not long after.
  • Memetic Mutation: Before he met Zylbrad and co., he didn't really have quite a lot of memes. However, the amount of memes went ballistic after Muselk started to record videos with Zylbrad and co.
    • Muselk:
      • HAMMER TIME!Explanation
      • People also like to intentionally mispronounce Muselk's name, using things such as "Mussel-K", "Mucus" and "Muslik".
      • Out of all of these, however, "Moosetits" became the most prominent after what the Scout called him.
      • This actually caused a bit of a problem for Muselk when he played Paladins for the first time, since all of the mispronouncements of his name was already taken, thus forcing him to go as "Muscle-K" in-game.
      • Muselk is actually Rick Astley.Explanation
    • Zylbrad:
      • "I'm trying to be a nicer Muselk. It's hard, but I'm trying, guys."
      • EA Sperts, Is Jus Game.
      • LUCIOBAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!Explanation
      • Ni hao!Explanation
    • Oasis:
      • Her giggle.
      • Being shipped with Muselk.
    • Bazza Gazza:
      • The hook.Explanation
      • Bazza, deal with the Pharah!Explanation
      • Bazza is a furry. Explanation
      • Ah, Bazza!Explanation
      • Sponsored by water.Explanation
    • The Stylosa memes, originated from Zylbrad and Tyrodin:
      • Stylosa once told me rank doesn't matter.Explanation
      • "Hey guys, Stylosa here, (insert something here), OK, fuck you, bye".Explanation
      • Patch notes.
    • The Hook, Cook, and Dook meme from Overwatch's Memetic Mutation page is actually originated from them using the strategy on the 3v3 mode.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Pretty much every time he wins a Tryhard Tuesday.
      • Arguably the most memorable one is getting a Godlike killstreak... using the Righteous Bison!
    • In his randomizer video, he ends up getting a Scout with the Black Box and the Powerjack. Cue 3 minutes of smashing in people's skulls and blasting them to death for at least thirty kills.
    • In another, he ends up getting both a Rocket Jumper and a Kunai. He then proceeds to backstab roughly everyone, becoming a flying, insta-killing menace for several minutes.
      • And in a later video he ups the ante by getting a Scout with Rocket Jumper and a Spycicle.
    • After Valve attempted to nerf the Loch-n-Load the first time, Muselk proceeded to go on a 21 killstreak with it by combining it with the Eyelander, turning its Last Chance Hitpoint penalty into a strength. Then after a rival Demoknight killed him and stole his heads, Muselk killed him and took all his heads back the following life.
    • He seems to have quite a knack in dealing with hackers. Most of the ones he's met have either been dominated or forced into ragequitting, and he even has anti-hacker loadouts dedicated to just this.
      • Some of his tactics veer into Crazy Is Cool. In this session of Rainbow Six Siege, he counters an aimbot hacker by having his entire team cluster on the hostage, such that when the enemy team attacks the shot penetrates and kills the hostage.
      • In "How to Beat a Hacker", the opposing team in a competitive match calls out two hackers on their team, and everyone cooperates to force the game into a draw, on top of killing only the hackers.
    • Becoming the first Team Fortress 2 Youtuber to reach one million subscribers.
    • In "Doomfist vs Doomfist," He and Tyrodin are having a 1v1 match to see who was better, Doomfist or Reinhardt. In the final round, Muselk uses a Batman Gambit to get Tyrodin to charge himself off of a cliff. The awesome part? He did this without looking.
  • Never Live It Down: His "Meme strats" plan as captain of Team Australia in the 2016 Overwatch World Cup. He still catches flak for it in videos today.
  • Win Back the Crowd: His MoreMuselk channel features an even spread of TF2, Overwatch, and the occasional miscellaneous game. Viewers who enjoyed his content before the shift to Fortnite rejoiced.
