YMMV / Lunarosse

  • Angst? What Angst?: Most of the characters, especially the optional minor ones, take relatively well the reveal that their world is nothing but an illusion, they're a Tomato in the Mirror, they have been brainwashed to forget their real lives, and they live totally different lives in the real world from where they've been dragged. Even more with those, like Sonia, who are told that they are animals in the real world... and accept it.
  • Breather Boss: The Amalgamation, a boss made of all of Zevhan's summons. While it looks freaky and comes at the end of a Boss Rush, it's also weak to almost every element, and can be poisoned at a point of the game where poison immunity has become the norm for a boss. The Boss Rush in itself isn't very hard either, as the Cardians Zevahn summons are the monsters that are already been fought and aren't a lot stronger compared to the first time they were fought while the heroes have become stronger.
  • Cliché Storm: You're going to spot a few familiar fantasy plots here, but it's justified in that as the world is modeled after Corlia's first writing attempt, it would have a bit of a familiar plot.
  • Complete Monster: The "Illusion Master", Dr. Dario Naumov, masterminds the Empire-Faction war within his patient Corlia Davis's Lunarosse world based on her book for rejecting his advances. Through his avatars, Dario sews discord, causing wars and catastrophe for the cast based on Corlia's friends, manipulating them to insanity and bringing about a draconian rule. Allowing for attacks on peaceful native races of Lunarossa, Dario also forces friends of Corlia to fight to the death, and in the true ending attempts to empower himself and destroy the dream world out of spite.
  • Fridge Horror: At one point during the mission to rescue Nerida from Escobar and the Ponaredek, the heroes come across a group of captive mermaids (including Nerida), but fail to save them. The next time they confront Escobar, Nerida is his only prisoner. We know that the Ponaredek eats merfolks and that Escobar hates them. So it's easy to guess what happened to the other mermaids...
  • Game-Breaker: Esau's Hawk Glyph is probably one of the most useful Glyphs of the game. Its Dance of the Hawk is ideal to dispatch random encounters, has a decent chance of paralyzing the opposition and is relatively cheap (especially since Esau has a lot of MP). The Viper Glyph too, especially since it sometimes can have the added bonus of poisoning the opposition.
  • Harsher in Hindsight / Hilarious in Hindsight: Depending on your mood. But after The Reveal that Corlia created the Constructed World of Lunarosse and trapped all her friends in it because she didn't want to grow up and to accept to let things change, the Empress starts to look a lot like Mabel of Gravity Falls.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Except one whenever Gloria or Noel's song kicks in.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Objectively, once you know the full extent of his story, Abel is one, even though he's a strong contender for the title of "least likeable display of this trope ever". Yes, the guy is a loud, rude, scornful and racist pain in the ass. But life hasn't been kind with him either, as he had to witness his father kill his mother right in front of him in order to protect him.note  That would mess anyone up. Also, his complete breakdown near the end, after Noita's death, can be hard to witness. It involves him losing the Replacement Goldfish of his mother and then smashing his head repeatedly against a dangerous magical mirror until he falls into a coma. After all this, he may elicit some sympathy.
  • Love to Hate: Zevahn is a Manipulative Bastard and a homophobe. But he is also a delightfully entertaining Troll and is given some of the best lines of the game.
  • The Woobie: Noel, bordering on Iron Woobie. He loves Channing, but he can't be with him as the latter is straight and wants to be Just Friends. Therefore, he has to watch him be with someone else. He's constantly tortured by Gerard, his Literal Split Personality / Superpowered Evil Side and sometimes loses control and has to watch him commit atrocities. Also, when the truth about his other half is revealed, almost all of his friends start to mistrust him, some of them becoming very hostile (luckily, Channing always sticks with him). Later, it's revealed that, in order to free themselves from the Constructed World of Lunarosse, the heroes have to kill Gerard, which will kill Noel as well. The guy just calmly accepts it and even tells his reluctant friends to do it. (Of course, they end up choosing to Take a Third Option.). Finally, as a final nail in the coffin, we learn that his feelings for Channing weren't his to begin with. They were subtly implanted by Gerard, making his romantic sufferings Harsher in Hindsight.
