Thumbelina is an animated film by Golden Films and distributed by GoodTimes Entertainment. It is based on the story written by Hans Christian Andersen. It follows the original tale, but Thumbelina now has the mission of arriving at the garden of Tulips to prevent the dam from destroying and averting a flood caused by the snow when it melts. Her father sees that the land has holes and the water has high levels and he feels that the melting of the snow of winter will cause a big flood that puts Thumbelina's people and probably many animals in danger. Since Thumbelina's father is too old to go there, he sends her to warn the soldiers at the Meadow of Tulips. The setting is also changed from Denmark to the Netherlands.
Thumbelina provides examples of:
- Action Girl: Thumbelina. She is going on a long journey, is brave and has proven capable of defending herself, like when a bee almost attacks her.
- Adaptational Nationality: Thumbelina is now Dutch and the prince is Russian and dresses like a Cossack. Also, why is there a Russian prince in the Netherlands?
- Adaptational Ugliness: The Russian prince is not very attractive. His hat covers his eyes and his smile is really goofy.
- Adaptational Villainy: This Thumbelina having an actual mission makes that Mona and Mr. Mole become more villainous. Mona almost sells Thumbelina.
- Adaptation Expansion: Thumbelina has to save her land from the flood.
- Bad Samaritan: Mona rescues Thumbelina from the cold winter, but her motive is far from selfless.
- Bait the Dog: Mona the mouse. She saves Thumbelina from the winter... but she actually wants to sell her to Mr. Mole and utterly disregards the flood.
- Beary Friendly: Thumbelina finds a few and befriends them. However, they are useless for Thumbelina since winter is coming and the bears hibernate that time. If they do not go to the caves, they will fall asleep in a dangerous, hostile land.
- Big Dam Plot: This film has a breaking dam as a plot point; Thumbelina must warn the prince about the dam or else, the prairie will be in a flood and the Little People will drown probably alongside many animals.
- Big Damn Heroes: At the ending, Thumbelina brings the soldiers and swallows to fix the dam.
- Big "YES!": Thumbelina agrees to marry the Prince with a big "yes".
- Bring Help Back: Thumbelina has to send for the prince so he can fix the dam.
- Darker and Edgier: This film is not that dark, but in the original tale, there was no risk of flood or deaths of animals and little people.
- Faux Affably Evil: Mona keeps talking in a polite way to Thumbelina, but is manipulating her and completely disregarding the lives of Thumbelina's people.
- Nice Guy: Thumbelina. She is willing to help people, like when she gives a bedsheet to a hurt swallow.
- Standard Hero Reward: Gender-inverted. The prince asks Thumbelina to marry after she brings the help.
- Talking Animal: The cast is full of them. Frogs, fish, bears, swallows, a fox a rat and a mole.
- Traitor Shot: Mona in her earlier scenes does an evil grin.
- Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Golden Films is known for being campy, but Mona and Mr. Mole are outright disregarding the possible death of countless lives and are willing to put someone in an awful status.
