Trivia / The Rage: Carrie 2

Go To

  • Approval of God:
    • Brian De Palma gave his blessing for Amy Irving to appear, reprising her role as Sue.
    • Sissy Spacek gave the filmmakers permission to use footage of her from the first film, and stated that she liked the finished film.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget? $21 million. Box Office? $17 million.
  • The Danza: Deborah Meschan as Beta Bitch Deborah.
  • Dawson Casting: 23-year-old Emily Bergl, 26-year-old Jason London, and 22-year-old Rachel Blanchard all playing teenagers. Mena Suvari, however, was 19 when the film was shot, not far from her character's age. Zachary Ty Bryan and Eddie Kay Thomas were teenagers as well.
  • Descended Creator: Director Katt Shea (who began her career as an actress) has a role as the DA who wants to press further charges against Eric. She revealed in the audio commentary that another actress had been cast in the role, but didn't show up on set, forcing Shea to step into the role at the last second.
  • Disowned Adaptation: As with all adaptations of Carrie save for Brian De Palma's, Stephen King didn't care for the film.
  • Dolled-Up Installment: The film began as an original story titled The Curse before producers realised how similar it was to Carrie, so they made it a sequel.
  • Fake American: Rachel Blanchard (Canadian) as Monica.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: In the trailer Arnie can be heard saying "we're missing another killer party", but in the film, he says "we're missing one killer party."
  • The Other Marty: The DA that Katt Shea herself plays had been portrayed by Teddi Siddall from the first set of filming with Robert Mandel. The scene had to be reshot and circumstances (see above) meant Katt did the role herself.
  • Playing Against Type:
    • Rachel Blanchard more often played Spoiled Sweet or Lovable Alpha Bitches. Here she plays a straight-up Alpha Bitch (although her previous type serves her well, since Monica is a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing who befriends Rachel).
    • Mena Suvari likewise would be better known for playing glamorous popular girls, rather than the goth outcast she plays here.
  • Role Reprise: Amy Irving reprises her role as Sue Snell from the first film.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: Notice that you never see Rachel from behind after she shatters the glass doors with her powers. This is because Emily Bergl received multiple cuts on her back and legs from the glass.
  • Those Two Actors: Mena Suvari and Eddie Kaye Thomas also star in the American Pie series.
  • Troubled Production: To begin with, the film was supposed to start production in 1996 as an original project titled The Curse. However, production got stalled for two years, during which time it was rewritten into a sequel to Carrie. A few weeks into production, director Robert Mandel quit, citing Creative Differences, leaving Katt Shea to take over the production with less than a week to prepare. This also forced two weeks of reshoots.
  • Typecasting:
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Sissy Spacek was approached to do a cameo. She declined but gave permission for footage of her from the original film to be used.
    • Monica's Beta Bitch Deborah who gets killed when CDs fly into her for some reason was called Amy in the script. She would have appeared in more scenes, but doesn't for some reason.
    • Katt Shea recalled cutting a scene of Rachel kicking a bucket aside in the ruins of the old high school, finding it too silly.
  • Working Titles: Carrie 2: Say You're Sorry and The Curse
