Trivia / Jacksfilms

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: An odd case in which Jack was trying to be inaccurate, but was accurate by mistake. In the "Fake Facts 4" video, he made a "fake" fact claiming that Robert Downey Jr. improvised the "And I... am... Iron Man" line in Avengers: Endgame (compromising with a more outlandish submitted fact that claimed all of the lines were improvised). Turns out, Downey Jr. really did improvise that line, which Jack acknowledged in the video comments.
  • Acting for Two:
    • "Inside the Forehead of Jacksfilms" (a parody of Shane Dawson's series on Jake Paul) features Jacksfilms interviewing himself.
    • "Ping-Pong Battle" and "Weird DDR Battle" both involve Jack facing off against his Evil Doppelgänger, and in the latter, he acts for *three* when Chad BRRRROSEPH Huntington shows up.
    • The running segment "The Clone Podcast" that appears after several YIAY episodes has two clones of Jack talk to each other during a podcast.
    • "Make my son and I laugh" features Jack playing both a father and son reading jokes.
    • Used frequently throughout the "Royalty Free Christmas Songs" series and sometimes Jack acts for more than just two characters.
  • Acting in the Dark: Around 2020, Jack changed the format of his submissions-based shows (such as YIAY, JackAsk, and YGS) so that his staff (his "council") chooses the submissions for him to include. Thus, when he reads the comments on the show, we can see his real-time reactions (usually Corpsing) as he's just as surprised as the audience.
  • Attention Deficit Creator Disorder: Since the mid-2010s, Jack has often struggled to balance all of his main series at once, causing noticeable Schedule Slip on anything that isn't YIAY. As YouTube shifted to a more aggressive algorithm in the late 2010s that didn't favor Jack's usual style, Jack found himself taking on more projects outside of his channel; he would advertise these in his videos for some time, but his public attention towards each project would peter out as he would get attached to a new concept around the same time. Examples include the YIAY board game, the Erin is the Funny One podcast, Be Funny Now!, and the YIAY Live streams. He does try to be open with his audience about schedule changes and emotional burnout, and often experiments with new approaches to avoid losing interest in a concept, such as his Acting in the Dark approach to YIAY and his retooling of the YIAY Live streams to feature guest stars, but fans have come to expect that any new hyped project won't last very long.
  • Colbert Bump:
    • His being featured on React helped him gain 100,000 subscribers in a very short period of time.
    • He provided one in turn to his own favorite YouTube content creators, RedLetterMedia, gifting them about 35,000 subscribers when he linked to them and described them as the best channel on YouTube.
    • The whole point of his video "THE CONTENT AWARDS" is to give one of these to several less popular YouTubers (and one Twitter user).
    • In YGS #120, he can't translate a sign that reads "YouTube LA Will Will Girlfriend to the Party," and asks his viewers to figure out what it means. Turns out, it was promoting a song on YouTube called "Girlfriend to the Party" by a rapper named LA Will Will. Most of the comments on that video are about how they're there because of Jacksfilms.
  • Corpsing: Jack sometimes fails to keep a straight face and starts cracking up while reading some of the more ridiculous misspellings in Your Grammar Sucks. Jack notes his trouble staying in-character in YGS #84, and for good reason. The reason he switched to an Acting in the Dark format for his submission-based series in 2020 is so he could catch his live honest reaction on camera, which usually means we see him burst into laughter.
  • Creator Backlash: Jack detests Jack to the Future, despite (or perhaps because of) it being the highest-budgeted video on his channel, since it's filled with Product Placement and not very consistent with his other work. He made a "sequel" in 2021 that just consisted of his past self getting punched to cut the video short, and various YIAY answers submitted by viewers tend to spoof or make fun of the video as well (even just by referencing it with a simple "hey guys" in the answer).
  • Fan Community Nicknames: Jack himself initially addressed his fans the title of "biches” (an intentional misspelling of “bitches” from the first YGS). He later came up with the satirical and intentionally cringe-tastic "fam squad".
  • The Merch:
    • Jacksfilms t-shirts, which make it into the videos. He later debuted the "Be a Klondike" line of clothing, which is themed around his dog Klondike. He's even sold Klondike plushies!
    • There's also the "YIAY Book" which features some YIAY questions and answers.
    • In 2021, Jack released a YIAY board game.
  • Milestone Celebration:
    • YGS #50, an episode which was not only quite long but had many famous YouTubers featured as well.
    • YGS #60.
    • YGS #100.
    • YIAY #500. Like the YGS milestones, it's much longer than normal episodes, as well as showcasing a variety of YIAY questions (mostly repeating popular questions of the past), rather than just one question, as well as clips from Jack's YIAY game shows on Twitch and a YIAY drinking game featuring other YouTubers. Jack also asked his fans to edit some raw footage of YIAY 500, and the episode ends by showcasing the best edits.
  • Schedule Slip:
    • The reason why Jack occasionally ends up releasing videos off their normal weekly schedule for their respective series, and sometimes there may not be a new video that week at all.
    • The promise of GamerGod88 releasing new videos daily or at the very least regularly fell through after nine days. However, Jack has said that the series would be coming back.
    • Originally, YGS #100 was promised to air some time in 2014. It wouldn't actually be released until November 2015.
    • Alexander Hamilton 3 was going to be released on Presidents' Day 2018, but due to Jack not being able to get a cameraman in time (as well as still having to write the music, get to the filming location, etc.), it was postponed indefinitely. Jack finally uploaded it over four months later...but after thinking his fandom harassed Lin-Manuel Miranda over the final line in the song ("I'll only do a fourth if Mr. Lin-Manuel Miranda's in"), Jack had to take the video down so he could change the line.note
    • This is the reason YIAY has become an Artifact Title. Many of the recent, more editing-heavy episodes require far more than a day, and several questions Jack proposes go months without getting a video, often past the point of relevance.
    • His failure to keep the promise of "YGS every Friday" has long been a running joke on the channel. In 2020, as a donation tier reward, he promised to make new YGS videos every month in 2020. He was consistent with this promise up to May, but skipped June and July as well as December. However, he finally got back on a consistent schedule in 2021 with a weekly release of YGS on Fridays... before putting the series on another indefinite hiatus.
    • The Erin is the Funny One podcast, originally released every week, last released an episode in June 2022. Despite Jack promising it would be back by early 2023 and that he and Erin were stockpiling on episodes, no new ones have been uploaded since then.
  • Throw It In!: In "Paper Bag", Jack falling off the cannon and later leaning on it is part of one long outtake, as revealed here, and they all recovered quickly enough to make it a part of the video.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: The original version of JackAsk #116 with Erin as a guest star was removed from the channel at Erin's request, due to people making unkind comments about her weight. Jack was very unhappy and told such fans not to watch his videos.
