Trivia / Jacksepticeye

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon: For the longest time, fans were invested in the idea of an evil Jack, nicknaming him Antisepticeye. Jack decided to canonise him as a character on Halloween 2016.
  • Ascended Meme: Two in Turbo Dismount: One vehicle—a spinning office chair—is called "Boss Throne", and one of the achievements is called "Speed is Key!"
  • Colbert Bump: While it was arguably a factor in his own music career and the memes about his voice, it is agreed that Jack did at least help Corpse Husband garner much attention than he was already getting.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • In videos from 2013 and 2014, a Running Gag of Jack's was him consistently promoting the idea that he was the last surviving member of a species called the Bossatronios, who all perished during a great war against Billy. However, in a 2017 video of him playing through fan-made JackSepticEye quizzes, Jack admitted that he now found that backstory incredibly ridiculous and dated, and no longer wished to entertain the idea anymore.
    • Jack has also made it subtly clear that he isn't particularly fond of his older catchphrases or running gags from 2013-15, due to him also finding them dated and ridiculous.
    • In "Let's Talk!", in which Jack discussed PewDiePie being removed from his MCN and slandered by the media after making controversial anti-Semitic/Nazi jokes, Jack stated that although he had tweeted in support of Felix, he did not personally condone his actions and believed that he should have been more apologetic in his response to the controversy. This led to Jack himself getting backlash from fans who believed that he was going against his friend. He eventually stated on Twitter and Tumblr that he no longer fully agreed with everything that he said in the video after getting more knowledge on the situation and talking directly to Felix, and that he was "naive" to have focused more on critiquing Felix's actions than commenting on the mainstream media's reporting of his actions.
    • In a "Reading Your Comments" video, Jack admitted that he heavily dislikes his playthroughs of the Life Is Strange games, as he found every installment outside of the first to be rather boring, which made actually playing through the games to be exceedingly difficult. His negative feelings towards the sequel games, combined with multiple content ID claims, is what caused Jack to gradually phase out videos on the franchise as a whole.
    • Jack's playthrough of The You Testament ended up getting a lot of negative comments from offended Christians, to which he made a comment addressing the backlash and stating that he seriously regretted playing the game after seeing the video's reception.
  • Dear Negative Reader: Jack rarely if ever gets into this, but firmly put his foot down when he returned from his hiatus following the death of his father, addressing the section of the internet who were making fun of it and saying disrespectful and vulgar things about it.
  • Doing It for the Art: Jack has said that he doesn't make videos for the money, but because he enjoys making them and loves video games.
  • As a teenager, Sean was the drummer for a Death Metal band called Raised to the Ground.
  • Fake American: He adopted an Americanized accent in his earlier videos, although his real accent tended to slip out frequently. His true accent became more prominent as he became more comfortable in front of the camera.
  • Follow the Leader: His "reading your comments" videos are a staple in his work and the likes of Markiplier and other YouTubers have followed in his footsteps. Jack didn't create the idea of reading comments, only popularized it.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • Started out as a fan of people like Markiplier and PewDiePie. He's now recorded several collab videos with both of them (as well as other YouTube personalities) and has become extremely good friends with them.
    • Jack made it clear that he's a fan of Game Grumps, with numerous pictures on his Instagram showing him wearing several Grump shirts (as well as shirts from their outside work like Starbomb) as well as a fair share of references to the show in his actual videos. Over time, he got to meet some of the Grumps (presumably at conventions), and he ended up as a featured guest in a Grumpcade series on Shadows of the Damned.
  • Series Hiatus: In January 2021, after his father died, Jack announced that he was going to take a break from making content until further notice. He also cleared his Twitch schedule for the time being. He returned to work on February 22, 2021, only to later enter another hiatus to improve his mental health, currently focusing his attention on skits and short films.
  • Throw It In!: Jack tends to leave his mistakes in his videos, from gameplay errors to game crashes to fumbled words.
  • Trolling Creator: His Carolina Reaper challenge video (which was an April Fools' Day joke). The video pretends to buffer right when Jack inserts the pepper into his mouth (making it likely that he never took it at all and was only pretending to chew and react), he then "dies" (flatline and all), and it cuts to black for the remainder of the video.
  • What Could Have Been: Jack was originally slated to be cast in A Heist with Markiplier and In Space with Markiplier as the Hermit and Mack, respectively. However, he was unable to travel for either shooting, leading to MatPat stepping in for both roles.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: While he initially thought him getting shipped with Markiplier (with the ship being dubbed "Septiplier") was fun and understood that their fans would enjoy a shipping outlet, he started hating it as the shipping became overly sexual to the point that he grew uncomfortable with it and asked people to stop sexualizing them.
