Trivia / Five Nights at Freddy's 3

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Scott Cawthon is the voice of both people who call the player at the beginning of each night, both the new Phone Dude who explains what's going on in the first two nights, and the original Phone Guy who appeared in the last two games.
  • Author Appeal: Springtrap being a previous incarnation of Bonnie is most likely because Scott once admitted that working on Bonnie during development of the first FNAF actually gave him nightmares.
  • Creator Backlash: A relatively minor example, but Scott Cawthon has expressed in multiple interviews that he was somewhat disappointed that the game didn't turn out to be as scary as he'd initially hoped, pointing to Springtrap's infamous jumpscare as a particular example. This mindset is what drove him to make the next game in the series "the scariest one yet".
  • Creator Cameo: Scott Cawthon once again reprises the role of Phone Guy. He also voices another character, who is practically Phone Guy, but with a Surfer Dude accent and dialect during the first two nights.
  • Creator's Favorite: Scott has said he'd like Springtrap to appear in another game, but it would have to make sense lore-wise. Springtrap makes a cameo in Sister Location's final Custom Night cutscene and is a major antagonist in Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, both of which take place after the events of this game.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: Played with. The twitching Springtrap scene does happen in the ending, but it's displayed in old school graphics. And thank god for that.
  • Prop Recycling: The Phantom Animatronics are mostly retextures of characters from previous games: Phantom Freddy is Golden Freddy from 2, Phantom Chica is based on Chica from 1, and the others are all based on their prior incarnations from 2. The one exception to this is Phantom Foxy, who has a new model due to him missing his hook from the player regularly seeing it in the box of parts with the Toy Animatronics.
  • Throw It In!: The Springtrap hallucinations you sometimes get after a ventilation error were originally a bug, but Scott liked the idea and they fitted the guard seeing things as he ran out of oxygen, so he kept them in as a feature.
  • Trolling Creator: During the prerelease cycle for this game, Scott Cawthon made a post claiming he was going to cancel FNaF 3 because somebody leaked the full game. After booting up the "full game" and going through a genuine-looking main menu, said game is revealed to be There Is No Pause Button!, one of Scott's older games, with Freddy's head pasted on the player's sprite and the troll song as background music.
