Trivia / Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle

Go To

  • Bad Export for You: Downplayed, but there are times where the Global version will introduce new bugs that were never present at all in the Japanese version (such as the Giant Form bug, where the game would crash if a Giant Form character defeats the enemy team after one of your allies has already transformed).
  • Christmas Rushed: Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta and the PHY Omega Shenron were hastily pushed out to celebrate Global's 200 Million Download celebration. Because Global didn't have the category system implemented (let alone translated), the two cards were launched with leader skills simply saying "To Be Released". Trying to run them as leaders will provide no bonuses to your team.

  • Cowboy Be Bop At His Computer: For some reason, this game really likes to make you think Goku and Vegeta fused into SSB Vegito against Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black, as both of their Dokkan Fests were released at the same time, being polar opposites of each other in terms ot attribute types and leader skill, and the fact that they each deal extra damage towards their opposite's bossesnote . In actuality, Goku and Vegeta never got the idea to use the Potara earrings until after Black and Zamasu fused themselves.

  • Distanced from Current Events: The 2018 Social Media Frieza Campaign ended up having its Japanese portion cancelled on September 6, 2018, in the wake of the Hokkaido earthquake.
  • Fan Nickname: Because of the amount of variants of units in the game, many players have created different names to help difference them or for easier recognition.
    • Any absorption of Buu are named Buutenks (Buu + Gotenks), Buuccolo (Buu + Piccolo), Buuhan (Buu + Gohan), and Buff Buu (Buu + South Supreme Kai) respectively.
      • Humorously, [Sluggish Battle Form] Kid Buu has been named Sexy Buu, due to his wiggling card art being interpreted as more than a taunt.
    • Godku for any SSJGod Goku card.
    • Nukers for any card that can infinitely raise their attack by obtaining a huge chain of orbs.
    • Transforming Goku, Frieza and Vegeta for [Boiling Power] SSJ Goku, [Glacial Prestige] Final Form Frieza and [Limitless Combat Power] SSJ Vegeta.
    • Dadku, Brohan and Broten for the Family Kamehameha cards.
      • Consequently, Go Bros for the joined LR of said Gohan and Goten [Miracle-calling Clash].

    • O Geta, to separate [The Supreme Warrior] Gogeta from his upgraded [Outshining Darkness] counterpart.
    • Trollhan for [Successor of the Strongest] SSJ Gohan (Youth), since he is an INT type like his LR [Day of Destiny] card, which can infuriate players upon summoning the wrong Gohan card.
    • Angelku for any SSJ3 Angel Goku card.
    • The Time Traveler category is also called the "Space Time Transcendent" category, since the inclusion of Boujack and Buu could confuse some players over how they could have time traveled despite not having any means to.
      • Alternatively, it is also called the "Subarashii" category or the "Mortal/Ningen Slayers" category, due to Goku Black leading the Time Traveler category, it is possible to create a team consisting of nothing but Goku Black/Zamasu variants.
    • Each of the Dokkan Leaders have been given their own names by the community
      • God Leads (Type Ki +3 and ATK +3000)
      • Neo-God Leads (Type Ki +3 and HP, ATK & DEF +70%)
      • Demigod Leads (Type HP, ATK & DEF +100%)
      • 120 Type Leads (Super/Extreme Type Ki +3 and HP, ATK & DEF +120%; or Super/Extreme Class Ki +3 and HP, ATK & DEF +50%)
      • Category Leads (Exactly What It Says on the Tin)
  • I Knew It!: Fans theorized that the 300M Download Celebration will be based around the Cell Saga due to the influx of story events released based off the Androids Saga, as well as livestream premiering on August 17 (While the exact month is unknown, the 17th is the date where Cell announced his Cell Games Tournament in a broadcast raid) combined with dataminers concluding that the celebration will start on the 27th, 10 days after the livestream. The announcement stream confirmed that the 300M Download Celebration will be based around the Cell Games.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.":
    • While Ultra Instinct Goku and Jiren were already revealed through subbed streams of Dragon Ball Super, it's played straight if you're following the dub release, as the two had their Dokkan Fests back when Funimation was still dubbing the Goku Black Saga.
    • Played completely straight with Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta (GT), who first appeared in Dragon Ball Heroes, but was brought over due to AGL SSJ 4 Vegeta's Dokkan event including that card as one of the phases.
  • No Dub for You: Subverted. Global at first only had Japanese voices, but the English ones were added as an option in 2016.
  • Schedule Slip: Comes into play with a vengeance on the Global server, as Dokkan Fests or story events already available on the Japanese servers could take months or even years to come out worldwide, if they even come out at all.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Due to Vic Mignogna getting terminated from Funimation following the allegations against him, as well as Vic preparing to sue Funimation over defamation, LR [Nightmarish Impact] Legendary Super Saiyan Broly's Active Skill isn't dubbed if voices are set to English.
  • Role Reprise: While it's not too unusual for the Japanese actors to reprise their roles for a mobile game, it's particularly notable that Namco-Bandai actually managed to get Sean Schemmel (Goku), Eric Vale (Future Trunks), and Christopher Sabat (Shenron) to record dialogue for the Global version; whereas most Japanese mobile games with voices - save for Fire Emblem Heroes - tend to be limited to their native language when released overseas.
  • Vaporware:
    • [The Ultimate Fighting Squadron] Captain Ginyu (Ginyu Force) fell hard into this for Global players, thanks to that server never getting the 1.0 version of the Virtual Dokkan Ultimate Clash. When Ultimate Clash 2.0 was finally brought over nearly a year later, he's considered nothing more than a Bragging Rights Reward due to his outdated leader and flat passive skills restricting him, especially in regards to [Ginyu Force Reborn] Ginyu (Goku) (Ginyu Force).
