Iladhan Kalagavi

A Goliath who, despite knowing little of the world aside from the warmongering ways of his tribe, came to embrace more purposeful ideas like honor and dignity when an enemy treated him with more respect than his own people. When that enemy - an imperial lord he came to serve - was killed by a manipulative rival, he and his compatriots swore to avenge him once they had the means.

  • Animal Battle Aura: As a Path of the Totem Barbarian, Iladhan takes on the traits of the eagle, allowing him to move with a dangerous swiftness across a battlefield despite his massive size.
  • Best Served Cold: Knowing that their efforts will end in failure should they attempt to strike against Markath immediately given their small numbers and lack of resources, Iladhan and the other retainers of Lord Arjen have decided to travel, strengthen themselves, and wait for a more opportune time to reunite and avenge their lord by killing Markath.
  • BFS: His weapon of choice is a towering blade that resembles a zhanmadao, and he wields it as if it weighs nothing.
  • The Big Guy: Daewynn might be a towering Firbolg, but Iladhan, as a Goliath, nonetheless stands tall over nearly every sentient being he encounters short of his Giant kin and the like. Also fits in terms of his fighting style, given he gets into the face of his enemies and attempts to overpower them.
  • Blood Knight: Downplayed. While this is expected of most Goliaths - especially those from his region - his passion for battle only pours to the forefront when the time for combat has come.
  • Cultured Badass: Iladhan became one of these when he left his tribe behind and became a retainer of an imperial lord. While he may be a monstrously powerful warrior first and foremost, he developed a focus on improving his skills and knowledge over the years of service and has become so refined that he does not appear out of place in a civilized society (save for his enormous size).
  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: The attitude that he has adopted since becoming a retainer for a noble lord in a civilized society. He will act with patience and give enemies, and potential enemies, the chance to make the wiser and more decent decision. He will even warn them. When they fail to make that decision, he becomes an absolute terror who does not hesitate to cut those enemies down to size.
  • The Exile: Upon returning to his tribe after a defeat to Lord Arjen's forces - when his loyalty to the tribe earned Arjen's respect and he received healing for the journey back - his lack of injuries made the tribe believe that he had fled from the battle. Thus, like his father, he was sent to fend for himself in the wilderness. Though Iladhan struggled with this exile for a time, especially considering his father died when exiled in a similar way, finding his place among Lord Arjen's retainers made this a welcomed exile. He does not care to be involved in a culture he now views as foolish.
  • Force and Finesse: Surprisingly, he is the finesse to Daewynn's force - though he has shades of a raging barbarian, he has also become a highly-skilled combatant who outmaneuvers opponents and pokes holes in their plans with battle tactics.
  • Gentle Giant: Compared to the Goliaths of his tribe, he has become this, though he is still in touch with his past as a battle-raging barbarian when he, his allies, or helpless people are threatened.
  • Heroic Vow: Shared among Iladhan and the other retainers in Lord Arjen's inner circle. They have vowed that they will reunite to avenge him, on the ideals of honor that he promoted.
  • Hunk: By Goliath standards, at least, with emphasis on the manly rather than the handsome given Goliaths tend to be harsher looking than humans and the like.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Much as Iladhan bashes things with his Goliath might, he is unnaturally swift on the battlefield. This is a testament to the faint magic power that he possesses, through his attunement with the totemic powers of the eagle, that allows him to move around like a swift predator.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: While all Goliaths do not let bloody combat govern their lives as much as Iladhan's own tribe, he sees all Goliath ideals as ultimately self-destructive. Eventually, his tribe will cross an enemy that they cannot beat. If they are busy punishing and exiling their own to promote a skewed view of honor, they will be crushed, they will not be able to protect the anchors of their society that keep the tribe growing, and their way of life will end.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: While Iladhan thinks My Species Doth Protest Too Much, he cannot shake that he is a Goliath who was raised in an environment built on pride and competition. He hates the thought of losing a battle and thrives on single combat.
  • Rōnin: Essentially what he is - his lord was killed and his lord's retinue, of which he was a leading member, was not given a home to return to when the imperial state took over his lord's land. He should be a warrior with no attachments, save for his vow of revenge.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Due to his clan's close association with the natural world - many trackers have come out of Clan Kalagavi - Iladhan can focus and summon the ability to speak to animals.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Lord Arjen, perhaps the only human who could earn so much of Iladhan's respect. This is the reason he has to avenge the man.
  • Worthy Opponent: What Lord Arjen regarded him as, especially in comparison to other Goliaths who were too quick to surrender rather than be executed. Iladhan eventually came to see Arjen as this, but that changed into regarding him as a worthy leader when it became evident that Iladhan's tribe did not treat living warriors with the same respect.
  • You Wouldn't Like Me When I'm Angry!: As Goliaths go, Iladhan is as calm and well-spoken as one could expect. In combat, he reverts to the old tribal barbarian standard of get so angry that nothing can stop you, with a dangerous amount of cunning and tactical acumen thrown into add to the danger.

Daewynn

A Firbolg who became so incensed by the constant attacks on her peaceful people that she aligned herself with a deity of the Tempest and all the violent powers associated with such an alignment in order to protect them. Worried that she would become like their enemies - reckless and dangerous - the Firbolgs of her conclave subsequently sent her away, leaving her to question her purpose.

  • Amazonian Beauty: Muscular? Check - built enough to haul a two-handed greataxe. Firbolg height? Check - a bit above average for a woman, too. Buxom figure? Check. A textbook example.
  • Beast Man: Beast woman, in this case, and somewhat Downplayed. Firbolgs, with their close association with nature and the Feywild, tend to have traits that resemble those of common animals. Daewynn, with her long vertical ears; short, upturned nose; slight overbite; and powerfully built lower body, resembles a bunny.
  • Black Sheep: Firbolgs look down upon violence aside from using it as a last resort to protect their own, Daewynn's decision to embrace the power of a storm deity in order to fight back against encroaching Giants and similar threats drove her people to fear her and eventually cast her out.
  • Combat Medic: A true example - while Daewynn is a powerful healer who comes from a people who specialize in natural means of healing, she also wades into combat with a two-handed weapon that, considering her size as a Firbolg, is at least the size of most every commonfolk enemy that she fights, if not bigger. As a Tempest Cleric, she also tends to fry anyone who gets too close to her by way of the volatile magic within and can choose to enhance her thunder and lightning-oriented spells to their fullest at will. Emphasis on the combat, in this case.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: What ensued after she embraced the power of the Tempest in order to fight back against her people's encroaching enemies - those enemies weren't expecting one of the peaceful Firbolgs to hold that kind of power.
  • The Exile: Her choice to align herself with a Tempest god, and the violent powers tied into that alignment, turned her into a force that the other Firbolgs found too volatile and therefore, dangerous. Despite her work to protect them, she was compelled to leave when it was urged.
  • Force and Finesse: The force to Iladhan's finesse, though the lines are somewhat blurred. Nonetheless, when it comes to slashing and casting, Daewynn is the more likely to apply the blunt-force trauma through pure strength and power.
  • Glamour: Having association with the Feywild, Firbolgs developed the ability to disguise themselves in minor ways using magical glamours.
  • Hair-Raising Hare: Zig-Zagging Trope. Daewynn is every bit as cute as one might expect of a Firbolg who happens to have bunny-like features. This is, of course, in contrast to the fact that she was such a scary, violent force that she could not remain among her more peaceful kin.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: The Firbolgs seemed to think this would be Daewynn's downfall due to the aggressive way that she protects them - a cited reason for their deciding to exile her.
  • Invisibility: Firbolgs possess the power to become invisible at will on occasion.
  • Magic Knight: In tune with a deity associated with the Tempest Domain, Daewynn is much more capable on the frontlines than most traditional Clerics but can cast just as well as the rest of them.
  • Shock and Awe: The primary form of her powers, to the point that when enemies get to close, she seems to crackle with energy that electrocutes them.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Seven feet and five inches tall. Features that are striking by Firbolg standards and appealing by human standards. More than qualifies.
