Go To

The 42nd episode of the first season of Tiny Toon Adventures and the 42nd overall, "Looniversity Daze" sees Buster and Babs taking the viewers on a trip to ACME Looniversity to see what a typical school day there is like. This episode is also the second episode animated by Encore Cartoons.

First Short: "The Learning Principal"

Yosemite Sam gets frustrated with the small pranks that Buster is pulling on him and sends him to the principal's office. As the principal is rumored to be a merciless monster that the students dread to meet, everyone worries for Buster's life.

Second Short: "Eating Between The Lines"

During lunchtime, the Bookworm hits the library. However, Sweetie Bird knows that Bookworm goes here for lunch and is waiting for him. Chasing ensues.

Third Short: "What's Up, Nurse?"

Not wanting to take a pop quiz in Foghorn Leghorn's class, Plucky fakes an illness so he can get sent to the nurse's office and spend his time there for the duration of the quiz. Plucky is in for a nasty shock, however, when it turns out that the nurse is Elmyra!

Tropes found in this episode include:

Overall:

The Learning Principal:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Montana Max can be seen laughing with the students near the end when Buster continues to pull tricks on Yosemite Sam.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: The punishments the Great and Powerful Principal considers using on Buster include boiling him in oil, stretching him out on a rack, and confiscating his stereo.
  • Class Clown: Buster, which leads to him getting sent to the Principal's office. Near the end, it is revealed that the class was Class Clowning 101, and the real reason why Buster was sent there because his pranks weren't funny enough for him to pass.
  • Foreshadowing: "You won't get anywhere in this class pulling these baby tricks!" Until The Reveal, you might assume that Yosemite Sam was just talking about the fact that Buster was pulling these pranks in general.
  • Flying Face: The apparent appearance of the principal.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Yosemite Sam is in this episode. 'Nuff said.
  • If You Die, I Call Your Stuff: The running gag of people asking Buster if they can have his stereo if he doesn't survive his encounter with the principal.
  • The Reveal: This episode is two-for-two in this regard: The principal is actually none other than Bugs Bunny, and the reason Yosemite Sam sent Buster to the principal's office in the first place was because he wasn't pranking Yosemite Sam hard enough. See, Yosemite Sam teaches the Class Clown class at ACME Loo.
  • Running Gag: People asking Buster if they can have his stereo as he walks to his apparent doom.
  • Shout-Out: The appearance (and reveal) of the principal is a fairly obvious reference to The Wizard of Oz.

Eating Between The Lines:

  • Affectionate Parody: Hits on some of the beats of Looney Tunes' "characters-in-book-store-come-to-life-when-no-one's-around" shorts like Book Revue.
  • Onion Tears: Sweetie and Bookworm visit a book called The Onion Field with predictable results.
  • Portal Book: Bookworm and Sweetie travel into and out of books throughout the short.

What's Up, Nurse?:

  • Ass Shove: The short's title card seems to be depicting Elmyra about to use a rectal thermometer on Plucky.
  • Cruel Twist Ending: By the time Plucky fesses up and wants to do the test again in order to get away from Elmyra, he's legitimately injured. Because of this, he must have a tutor for his school studies while he's out. Guess who it is.
  • Nurse with Good Intentions: Elmyra. One example would be her trying to use a defibrillator on Plucky's head.
  • Playing Sick: How Plucky attempts to get out of the test. He pays for it dearly.
  • Ridiculous Procrastinator: Plucky spent his time the previous day balancing a pencil on his beak instead of listening to Foghorn telling him to study his famous hound-teasing tricks for the test.
