Tropes

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Jim and Pam prank Dwight by pretending to be the Infinity website and claiming to have achieved sentience. Dwight, naturally, is prepared for such an eventuality.
  • Beard of Sorrow: Dwight has stopped shaving since breaking up with Angela.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Upon being told that he is actually not invited to the party in New York, Michael tries to claim he is already in the city, "in the main part." while only a short distance away from Scranton.
    • The new Dunder-Mifflin website plays some catchy music when you go on it.
      Phyllis: [amused] Stanley, you're dancing!
Stanley: [still bopping from side to side] No I'm not.
  • Character Development: Phyllis starts her arc of standing up to Angela.
  • Continuity Nod: Dwight took some of Staples' leads with him when he was hired back from them.
  • Fantastically Indifferent: Dwight reacts to the prank of a website supposedly becoming sentient as only someone with Dwight's level of attachment to reality can.
"It appears that the website has become alive. This happens to computers and robots sometimes."
  • Heroic BSoD: Michael undergoes this when the pizza delivery boy refuses to accept the half-off coupon that was only meant for two pizzas to count for all eight, with Michael rapidly losing touch with reality due to already upset by Ryan not inviting him for the New York party and the staff being upset he ordered from the universally-acknowledged "bad pizza place" just because he had a coupon.
  • Hidden Depths: Dwight knows binary well enough to rapidly type out two letters on the fly.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: When Dwight left Staples, he took some sales leads with him, but he never intended to use them.
"What did I intend to do with them? Who knows? Maybe keep them as a souvenir. Maybe use them."
  • Karma Houdini: Michael and Dwight do not face any legal repercussions for kidnapping the pizza boy.
  • Manchild: Michael, as usual.
"I'm an adult. I don't have to think, or do anything."
  • Man Versus Machine: Dwight, partly to impress Angela and partly to prove his skills, attempts to outsell the new website. He succeeds and Michael embarrasses Ryan by announcing this during the livestream.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Towards the end, Michael finally lets it sink in that he’s keeping a minor at the office against his will for ultimately petty reasons. And he regrets it immensely.
  • Oh, Crap!: Michael, after Kevin tells him that Jim wanted to get out before the cops became involved with the pizza delivery boy being held in the conference room, and it finally dawns on Michael that he's essentially committed a kidnapping.
  • Pet the Dog: Pam, feeling sorry for Dwight after Angela rejects his attempt to win her back, sends a final message as the website acknowledging Dwight as the superior being.
  • Precision F-Strike: The following line from Michael to Ryan once his turn on the launch party shows up:
Michael: Hey I want you to know that one of my employees beat your stupid computer, so take that ass-f(bleep)!
  • Psychological Projection: Michael is clearly frustrated by Ryan not inviting him to the New York party, and takes out his frustrations on the arrogant pizza boy.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: When Michael orders from the "bad" pizza place because he has a coupon.
Michael: All right, what is better? A medium amount of good pizza? Or all you can eat of pretty good pizza?
Everyone else in the office, in unison: Medium amount of good pizza.
  • Serenade Your Lover: Andy has two members of "Here Comes Treble" call on speakerphone to serenade Angela with "Take a Chance On Me" by ABBA, and it works.
  • Serious Business: The office staff treats the difference between the two pizzerias with just as much seriousness as Michael holding the delivery boy hostage.
  • Shown Their Work: Alfredo's Pizza Cafe is a real pizzeria in Scranton, PA. Pizza by Alfredo, on the other hand, was made up for the show.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Kevin, when explaining that the pizza place Michael ordered from is terrible.
"It's like a hot circle of garbage."
  • Too Clever by Half: Dwight agreed to receive a second Employee of the Month plaque the previous February instead of a pay raise.
  • Tranquil Fury: Ryan is quite visibly deflated when Michael says that Dwight managed to outsell the website.
  • Video Call Fail: Ryan's ego seems to blind him from the fact that the launch party is not as high-tech as he boasted it would be. One manager doesn't even know if he's online, and there's heavy pixelation on the "crystal clear" image.
