Recap / Mickey Mouse S1 E16 "Tapped Out"

Go To

"Tapped Out" is one of the season 1 shorts of the Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the sixteenth to both air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.

Mickey goes head to head with wrestling champion Pulchritudinous Pete, after Goofy hears Mickey talk about wanting to beat him up.

Tropes:

  • Achilles' Heel: Donald's nachos, which he makes clear no one is to touch. Who would have thought it becomes a plot device?
  • Berserk Button: There are three. Bullies are Mickey's, touching Donald's nachos is Donald's, and Pete's hair being removed is Pete's.
  • Big Ball of Violence: What Donald encases Pete in as part of his Unstoppable Rage.
  • Book Ends: The episode begins with Goofy foolishly declaring Mickey's desire to take on the champ, and ends with him daring the audience to take on Mickey as the new champ.
  • Bull Seeing Red: After Mickey rips off Pete's blond hair (see By the Hair below), he uses it like a matador's cape to lure Pete into crashing into one of the posts of the ring, after which, as in a real bullfight, the spectators shower Mickey with roses.
  • Burning with Anger: Donald, after Pete ruins his nachos.
  • By the Hair: Mickey is holding onto Pete's hair so tight while Pete is trying to pull him off that he accidentally tears his hair off.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Donald's nachos, which he does not like others touching. Twice, Mickey accidentally touches them and is promptly yelled at by Donald. Then, when it becomes clear that Donald isn't going to help him beat Pete, Mickey tricks him into helping by having Pete deliberately ruin Donald's nachos, incurring the duck's wrath.
  • Disney Death: Goofy apparently stops breathing after he's beaten up by Pete. He then gasps and revives right before Mickey wins the fight.
  • Gorgeous George: Pulchritudinous Pete, complete with flowing blond locks.
  • Hated by All: Despite being the champ wrestle, Pete is not well liked by the audience due to his bullying tendencies. The only reason he remains champion is because of his size and everyone's fear to challenge him.
  • Here We Go Again!: After Mickey wins the championship belt, Goofy has him wrestling again.
  • Jerkass: Donald. He enjoys seeing people get hurt, including his friend, whom he refuses to help fight Pete. Also, he snaps at Mickey twice for unintentionally touching his nachos, which implies his nachos are more important to him than his friend's safety.
  • Karma Houdini: Despite Donald being more of a Jerkass than usual, he gets no punishment for being an unhelpful douche.
  • Ominous Latin Chanting: To go with Donald's Unstoppable Rage.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Donald, who is really the one who takes down Pete.
  • Pro Wrestling Episode
  • Pro Wrestling Is Real
  • Punch! Punch! Punch! Uh Oh...: This is how the bout between Mickey and Pete begins: Mickey not even leaving a scratch on Pete and Pete, on the other hand...
  • Shout-Out: Mickey heckling a wrestling champ? Hmm, why does that kind of attitude sound like the same kind of attitude as a certain gray rabbit when he attends any such events?
  • Tempting Fate: Mickey complaining about Pete being a bully and how he would take him on if given the chance.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Donald, after Pete ruins his nachos.
