"A Duppy Story": Leo is excited to read Jamaican folklore, until he learns about Duppy stories.

"A Duppy Story" contains the following tropes:

  • Ate It All: Mr. Hockbar ate all of the plantain chips intended for the Jamaican cookout, so he has to go to the store to replace them. As he says this, he snacks on a bag of plantain chips.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The plantain chips. Mr. Hockbar is shown eating plantain chips at the start of the episode. Later on, Leo discovers who the 'duppy' is by offering it a plantain chip.
  • Creepy Cave: The 'duppy' emerges from a creepy cave, at least, that's what it's called by Leo.
  • Emerging from the Shadows: Miss Lou does this when she first appears in person.
  • Evil Smells Bad: One of the signs of a duppy is a bad smell.
  • Ghost Story: Leo learns that Miss Lou specializes in telling Duppy stories, which are Jamaican ghost stories.
  • "Just So" Story: At the start of the episode, Leo finishes reading a folk tale about why goats don't smell so good.
  • Muck Monster: The gang runs afoul of a 'duppy' covered in mud. As it turns out, it was actually Mr. Hockbar.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Miss Lou loves telling scary stories, and Luna is fascinated by them as well...until Miss Lou tells a story that scares Luna out of her wits.
  • Salt Solution: Miss Lou says that if you sprinkle salt, a duppy will leave you alone. Carmen tries this with the 'duppy' the group encounters, but it doesn't work.
  • The Storyteller: Miss Lou is a famous Jamaican storyteller. In fact, she's directly based on Louise Bennett-Coverley.
  • Supernatural Repellent: Duppies can be defeated with molasses, salt, and rice and beans among other things.
  • Visible Odor: One of the clues to a duppy's presence, a bad smell, is presented as green.
  • Wingding Eyes: Hockbar gets plantain chips in his eyes when Luna shines a light on the plantain chip shack.

"Everything's Irie": Carmen tries to help Señor Fabuloso cheer up after a bad day.

"Everything's Irie" contains the following tropes:

  • Beach Episode: The kids think that the beach will help Señor Fabuloso feel better, so they bring the beach inside the Circo tent.
  • Bonding Through Shared Earbuds: At the end of the episode, Fabuloso and Hockbar share a headphone and happily listen to reggae music together.
  • The Chains of Commanding: Hockbar is on break, so all paperwork intended for him is redirected to Señor Fabuloso, who becomes overwhelmed by the sheer amount of it, coupled with his own responsibilities as the ringmaster of the Circo.
  • Cheer Up Episode: In this episode, Carmen tries to cheer up Fabuloso when he has a bad day. Taking him to the beach was the solution, coupled with the mantra of "everything will be irie."
  • Circling Birdies: Fabuloso gets circling stars when Andy hits him with his frisbee.
  • Don't Look At Me: The kids hear Señor Fabuloso crying, and enter his trailer to see what's wrong. He yells at the kids "DON'T LOOK AT ME!!!"
  • Drama Queen: Señor Fabuloso is more overdramatic than ever in this episode. Just because he had a bad day, he thinks that his life will be bad forever, and threatens to shut down the Circo over it.
  • Gilligan Cut: "I told you, Carmen, I am not going to the-" Cut to Fabuloso at the 'beach' and him finishing his sentence with "Beach?"
  • Instant Bandages: After suffering some Amusing Injuries, Fabuloso gets some bandages on his beak, as well as a black eye.
  • Not My Lucky Day: Fabuloso is having a miserable day that compels him to shut down the Circo.
  • Personal Raincloud: There's a small raincloud on top of Fabuloso's trailer in order to emphasize his bad mood.
  • Rake Take: At one point, Fabuloso steps on a shovel and gets hit in the face.
  • Suddenly Shouting: "Young Carmen, perhaps you have not noticed THE HUMUNGOUS MOUNTAIN OF PAPERWORK WAITING FOR ME!!!!!!"
  • Trauma Conga Line: Fabuloso suffers misfortune after misfortune. First, he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. Then, he realizes that his favorite book is gone and is with Mr. Hockbar, who is on his day off. This means that Fabuloso has to do all his paperwork, mountains of it. He trips and cracks his back, accidentally stamps his beak, and to top it all off, gains his own Personal Raincloud.
