When a thirteen-year-old boy named Henry Hart lands a part-time job as Kid Danger, he becomes a sidekick-in-training to the superhero, Captain Man, while keeping his secret from everyone, including his own friends and defeating villains.
I'm Tropay!
Both parts
- Birthday Episode: Downplayed, as this episode involves Jasper when he turns thirteen at the end of the episode. Jasper was twelve when Henry Danger began, making him the youngest of the trio.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: Because this is the first episode of Henry Danger, a lot of things you see here are completely different than in later episodes:
- Jasper's voice is higher than it sounds compared to the rest of the series because Sean Ryan Fox was just 12 years old when filming this episode (November 2013).
- The Auto Snacker in the Man Cave was referred to as the "Food-O-Matic".
- Henry's device to contact Ray about anything during his superhero missions was known as the Whiz Band, which effectively became replaced with the Whiz Watch in the very next episode.
- Keeping Secrets Sucks: Henry tells Blatant Lies to prevent his secret about being Kid Danger from being exposed to Charlotte and Jasper and breaks his phone and Charlotte's phone in the process while she is reading a news article about what happened with Kid Danger and Captain Man the previous night.
Part 1 ("Hey, Trope, Trope, woah!")
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Zigzagged. Ray compliments Henry by telling him that he has a sharp eye, great instincts, nice attire, is brave and can make sandwiches, thus hiring Henry to become his sidekick as he is the one.
- Distant Prologue: The episode begins 25 years before the actual plot begins with Carl Manchester demonstrating his Transmollecular Transducer on one of the panes of glass, which becomes indestructible. Moments later, Ray is skateboarding into the room twice with his skateboard, who eventually becomes indestructible and becomes Captain Man when he grows up.
- Establishing Character Moment:
- Jasper starts as the first character to speak in the present day. He has an unhealthy liking of buckets and is often put into denial by everyone around him, including his two best friends.
- Henry is introduced as a charming, fun-loving and helpful person who wants to get a job at 13. He is also the favourite child of the Harts family.
- Charlotte is shown to be the short and intelligent Token Black Friend who is the only friend with some form of common sense between Henry and Jasper.
- Piper is a horrible sister to her brother, mother and father who doesn't care about anyone but herself and has a tendency to shout all the time.
- Evil Elevator: Downplayed. The Junk n' Stuff elevator Henry uses to commute down to the Man Cave isn't destined to kill him, but it does take him down there at a high velocity, much to his horror.
- Failure Is the Only Option: Played straight initially, when all of the jobs Henry wanted to get require skills, the one thing Henry doesn't have. Subverted eventually since Charlotte managed to find him a job that didn't require any skills necessary at Junk n Stuff while Henry was lamenting about being nothing but average.
- HA HA HA—No: Ray and Henry fake laughing about a quote the latter was supposed to complete as per the interview.
Ray: Complete this sentence: "I'm sorry, mother, I didn't mean for my elephant to" (blank).
Henry: Um, "lick Dad?".
Henry and Ray: Hahaha!
Ray: Oh, that's not funny.
Henry: No.
Henry: Um, "lick Dad?".
Henry and Ray: Hahaha!
Ray: Oh, that's not funny.
Henry: No.
- Post-Victory Collapse: Downplayed, but Henry was extremely tired, covered in soot, and got his hair in a mess after saving people on the Jandy Bridge from drowning along with Captain Man.
- Secret Test of Character: To prove that Ray could trust Henry as his new secret sidekick, he had Boris dress as an old lady and get tackled by Henry to ensure he can protect him from being defeated by any villains.
- Shockingly Expensive Bill: Jasper is about to purchase the bucket and swords, but Gooch tells him he must pay $100 per sword.
- Sworn in by Oath: When Ray hires Henry as his new sidekick for Captain Man, he undertakes an oath that he must follow: always to be an awesome sidekick to him and never to tell anyone that Henry is Ray's secret sidekick, Kid Danger.
- Ungrateful Bitch: Piper complains about being unfollowed by Jessica because she misunderstood how Piper complimented her other friend.
Part 2 ("Every trope in Swellview will be a hideous monster...")
- Foreshadowing: When Henry's Whiz Watch goes off, he tells his friends that the beeps indicate a timer for birthday muffins. Said muffins later turn out to be something Henry brings to Jasper's birthday party as a substitute for a birthday cake when he turns thirteen by the end of the episode.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Henry tells Ray how Jasper is having a birthday party on the same day as the Toddler is planning to turn every baby into a monster, causing him to slowly hide his anger until he forcefully tells Laylani to run a hot tub to cheer him up. He even tells Ray that he feels bad about making Ray handle the Toddler alone, but thankfully, Henry realises his mistake when Jasper phones Henry to tell him that Captain Man has gotten kidnapped and needs to be rescued, much to the former's shock.
- Tranquil Fury: Subverted. Ray learns how Jasper will have a birthday party but is more concerned about stopping the Toddler from turning all the monsters, causing him to hide his anger quietly. But he slowly gets very upset about Henry's decision to give up the battle for Jasper's birthday party when he tells Laylani to turn on the hot tub, causing Henry to eventually feel bad for making his boss very upset about not being able to take on the Toddler with him that night; he finally does once he learns that Ray gets kidnapped by the Toddler on the news, however.
