Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 3 E 10 Ed Ed And Away

Go To

Ed, Ed and Away is an episode from Season 3 of Ed, Edd n Eddy.

The Eds try to sell Kevin a poorly-built custom hot bike, which breaks down while he's testing it, injuring Kevin in the process. Afterward, the Eds notice a balloon floating around and spend the rest of the episode trying to catch it.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: The Eds spent most of the episode chasing that red balloon, and then it pops. Ed cries, Eddy throws a massive tantrum beating his fists on the ground, and Double D does his best to calm the two down. But then suddenly Kevin unleashes another red balloon for them to chase, and so their spirits are lifted yet again.
  • Angrish: Eddy babbles unintelligibly during his breakdown at the end of the episode.
  • Bait-and-Switch: After throwing both Double D and Nazz into the air to try and get the balloon, Ed approaches Eddy... and instead grabs the metal loop on his pants and yanks it like a pullchord to make Eddy fly like a helicopter.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: While they didn't really pop the balloon either, Sarah and Jimmy are otherwise satisfied with Eddy being denied his goal, and Kevin continues to trick the Eds with another balloon undetected.
  • Batman Gambit: Kevin's revenge on the Eds depends entirely on them being easily distracted enough to actually spend an extended amount of time chasing a balloon.
  • Cow Tipping: The Eds bump into a cow, and that cow falls on top of Rolf who was cleaning it with a brush.
  • Dissonant Serenity: When giving the pre-flight safety instructions for the "airplane", Sarah mentions the possibility of the plane exploding "into a zillion tiny pieces" before promptly saying cheerfully "Wouldn't that be something?!"
  • Foreshadowing: While the Eds are chasing the balloon, Kevin laughs at them.
  • Helicopter Hair: In yet another effort to grab the balloon, Ed sends Eddy into the sky by (somehow) turning his hair into working helicopter propellers. Even Double D is befuddled at how he was able to do this.
  • Here We Go Again!: It turns out that Kevin is the source of the red balloon(s, plural). He's keeping the Eds occupied with chasing balloons out of revenge for giving him a poorly-designed bike and injuring him at the beginning.
  • Honest John's Dealership: For his latest scam, Eddy becomes a slick-talking bike salesman who sells Kevin a faulty bike. He's apparently emulating his father, who's a sleazy car dealer himself.
  • Human Ladder: The Eds form this to catch the balloon. This formation, called the "Tower of Eddy", is prominently used in the video game Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures.
  • Hypocrite: While wrestling for the balloon, Eddy yells at Sarah to give it to him, only for her to taunt back "gimme gimme never gets". This coming from the Spoiled Brat who whines to get everything she wants.
  • Insane Proprietor: During Eddy's custom hot bike scam, he refers to himself and the other Eds with "Crazy" in front of their names, and the scam itself is called "Crazy Ed's Custom Hot Bikes" (or "Krazy Ed'z Hot Bikes" on the sign). After the bike breaks down and injures Kevin while he's riding it, Kevin tricks the Eds into chasing balloons around the cul-de-sac for his own amusement. Kevin refers to his balloon "business" as "Crazy Kev's."
  • Literal-Minded: When Double D is complaining about all the long hard work they did for the Krazy Ed'z Hot Bikes scam, only for it to instantly fail, and rants about how it is the same thing every day, he calls it a "pipe dream at best". Ed tries to comfort him, telling him "I dream of pipes too".
  • MacGuffin: The red balloon is the main driving force of the episode's plot.
  • Plane Awful Flight: For Jonny, and even though it was an imaginary plane, it still had the same awful experience as a real airline. He gets served economy-class meals as while Plank, who is sitting in first class, gets a whole lobster and steak dinner.
Jonny: What do you mean you special ordered?
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Eddy technically wins his fight with Sarah and Jimmy, successfully snatching the balloon away from them. Too bad it pops shortly afterward before Eddy can do it himself like he wanted.
  • The Reveal: Kevin was the one who released the balloon, as he wanted to get back at the Eds for screwing him over with their "Krazy Ed'z" scam.
  • Revenge:
    • Kevin gets his revenge on the Eds for that scam and puts them through physical torture and humiliation trying to catch more red balloons.
    • Sarah and Jimmy try to pop the balloon to spite the Eds for ruining their imaginary plane flight.
  • Skewed Priorities: While the Eds are interrupting Sarah and Jimmy's pretend airplane trip, as Eddy and Ed are trying to get at the balloon, Double D is more interested in one of the science magazines left for reading.
Double D: Um, excuse me, Sarah, would you have a more current issue?
  • Take a Third Option: While Eddy just wants to pop the balloon and Double D wants to salvage it, Ed is more interested in keeping it in the air.
  • Xtreme Kool Letterz: "Krazy Ed'z Hot Bikes".
