Better Call Saul is a crime drama and spinoff of parent show Breaking Bad, revolving around Jimmy McGill, a struggling lawyer whose search for success in what he does best will eventually turn him into the "CRIMINAL lawyer" Saul Goodman. The show ran on AMC from 2015 to 2022.

Unmarked spoilers are present throughout the episode pages as well as some of the synopses below. Read at your own risk.

Mike Ehrmantraut

Underfed, underpaid, and living at the back of a nail salon, lawyer Jimmy McGill tries to make ends meet whilst caring for his home-bound, eccentric brother Chuck McGill by taking any and every client he can get his hands on. He frequently crosses paths with Mike Ehrmantraut, who's looking to build a new life for himself in Albuquerque following some shady events in his past.


  1. "Uno": Jimmy falls back into his old ways to secure a potentially lucrative client.
  2. "Mijo": Jimmy bargains for his and his cohorts’ lives when his con’s failure puts him in league with dangerous criminals.
  3. "Nacho": Nacho is arrested when the Kettlemans go missing, forcing Jimmy to pursue unconventional leads to prove his innocence.
  4. "Hero": Jimmy comes up with a bold scheme to solicit new clients after a sudden windfall, but his actions strain his relationships with those closest to him...
  5. "Alpine Shepherd Boy": Chuck’s suspicions of his brother land him in the hospital as Jimmy’s new clients cause him to ponder his future law career.
  6. "Five-O": When Mike’s past catches up with him, he seeks help from Jimmy to secure his freedom and determine what his family knows about his sins.
  7. "Bingo": The Kettlemans’ arrogance damages Kim’s career, prompting Jimmy to consider doing the right thing against his own self-interest.
  8. "RICO": Stumbling upon the lawsuit of a lifetime, Jimmy teams up with Chuck to build an airtight case.
  9. "Pimento": Chuck pressures Jimmy to take his case to HHM when Sandpiper’s lawyers threaten to overwhelm them. Mike dips his toes into Albuquerque’s criminal underworld.
  10. "Marco": Reeling from a rude awakening, Jimmy meets his old partner in Cicero to contemplate his future.

Chuck McGill

Jimmy tries his hand working at a private law firm, but soon finds it's not really for him. Chuck starts making some moves of his own, and the clashing between him and Jimmy start throwing the lives of everyone around them into chaos. Kim Wexler starts catching blowback from both sides and considers getting out from under Howard Hamlin's thumb. Mike is drawn deeper into the local criminal underworld, especially due to a bitter grudge against the infamous Salamanca clan.


  1. "Switch": Jimmy tries to induct Kim into his carefree conman lifestyle. Mike tries to separate himself from a foolish client.
  2. "Cobbler": With the police closing in on his client, Mike brings in Nacho and a newly-hired Jimmy to settle matters. Chuck’s improved health causes waves at HHM.
  3. "Amarillo": Jimmy’s eagerness to succeed (and disdain for the rules) at Davis & Main lead him astray as Mike responds to supposed dangers to his family.
  4. "Gloves Off": Nacho hires Mike to kill Tuco, though Mike has other plans. Jimmy’s mistake blows back onto Kim to such an extreme that he suspects Chuck’s meddling.
  5. "Rebecca": Jimmy rebels under increased scrutiny at Davis & Main, while Kim resolves to fight her way back up the ladder at HHM.
  6. "Bali Ha'i": Mike resists giving into a demand by the Salamanca family as Jimmy and Kim become dissatisfied with their firms.
  7. "Inflatable": Jimmy finds a way to practice law while being himself and invites Kim to abandon HHM and join him as his law partner.
  8. "Fifi": Kim and Howard race to retain Mesa Verde, inviting the McGill boys to support their respective partners. Mike prepares to hit the Salamancas where it hurts most... their drug smuggling.
  9. "Nailed": Chuck’s failure at the Mesa Verde hearing escalates his feud with Jimmy, while Mike's revenge on the Salamancas has unintended consequences.
  10. "Klick": Chuck’s alarming state following a hospital stay moves Jimmy to make an irrevocable decision. Hector’s crimes force Mike to dispense with half measures.

Kim Wexler

Thanks to Chuck's machinations, Jimmy's law career now hangs in the balance. He realizes that desperate times call for desperate measures, raising one important question: how far will Jimmy go to save his own skin? Meanwhile, Nacho Varga faces a crisis close to home, and makes moves that will put him at odds with Mike, who's torn between getting out of the game and his new partnership.


  1. "Mabel": Chuck moves forward with his plans as the costs of being solo practitioners weigh down on Kim and Jimmy. Mike rushes to outmaneuver his newest enemy.
  2. "Witness": Mike hires Jimmy to inspect a business he believes is tied to the note he received, while Chuck goes to extreme lengths to build his case against his brother.
  3. "Sunk Costs": Mike strikes at the Salamancas with the approval of his new ally, while Jimmy looks for a way to escape his brother’s trap.
  4. "Sabrosito": Mike tries to distance himself from stormy cartel politics, while Kim and Jimmy team up to build a defense for his bar hearing.
  5. "Chicanery": It’s brother vs. brother at Jimmy’s bar hearing. Will Jimmy be able to give the panel proof of Chuck’s hatred of him?
  6. "Off Brand": Jimmy starts serving his sentence and finds work under a new moniker, while Nacho begins to suffer under Hector’s aggressive leadership.
  7. "Expenses": Jimmy falters under his promise to Kim to be responsible for his half of Wexler-McGill. Nacho plots Hector’s death with the help of an old associate, drawing Mike’s attention.
  8. "Slip": Jimmy stoops to his old tricks in order to stay solvent as Chuck considers how to proceed with his life. Nacho and Mike make dangerous, portentous decisions.
  9. "Fall": Dazzled by what he stands to gain from the Sandpiper suit, Jimmy gives in to his worst instincts as Kim’s overworking comes to a head. Chuck pushes back against Howard when he suggests retiring from HHM.
  10. "Lantern": After a wake-up call, Jimmy and Kim try to get off their dead-end paths. Nacho puts it all on the line when his father’s fate seems grim. Chuck finds himself helpless when Howard circumvents his terms.

Chuck's brutal suicide, a year's suspension from practicing law, and most importantly, a growing chilliness between him and Kim leave Jimmy less inclined to be a good man than ever. Meanwhile, Gustavo Fring's preparations begin to bear fruit, as in the wake of Hector's accident, he is the only cartel authority north of the border. He ruthlessly builds his empire, takes his revenge against the Salamancas and brings in new allies, whether they like it or not...


  1. "Smoke": Jimmy, Kim and Howard all struggle for words in the wake of Chuck’s death. Mike decides to earn his paycheck at Madrigal. Nacho and Gus navigate the chaos left by Hector's accident.
  2. "Breathe": Jimmy tries to channel his grief into getting a job while Kim judges Chuck’s bequest (and Howard’s aloofness). Nacho tries to get his life back in order while the local underworld is in flux.
  3. "Something Beautiful": Gus uses his leverage over Nacho in a violent plan to deceive the Salamancas. Jimmy associates with new people when Mike turns down his job, while Kim considers her increasing workload.
  4. "Talk": Mike struggles with his grief, his family and his morals as the Cousins avenge Nacho’s “hit”. Jimmy tries to become more productive while Kim wrestles with her malaise.
  5. "Quite a Ride": Jimmy looks towards the future and pads his wages by selling drop phones. Kim's public defender work forces her to consider what's important. Gus has Mike interview architects for a project he’s building beneath his laundromat...
  6. "Pinata": Kim unburdens herself of Mesa Verde, unintentionally pushing Jimmy further down his criminal path. Mike introduces the men building the superlab to their new quarters and takes their measure.
  7. "Something Stupid": After several months pass, Jimmy bridges the separation between him and Kim when Huell gets in trouble. Gus takes control of Hector’s recovery, while Mike tries to keep Werner and his restless men in line.
  8. "Coushatta": Jimmy and Kim use all their resources and go to great lengths to get Huell a lighter sentence. Mike looks out for loose lips when he lets the crew out for R&R. Nacho’s issues about his place in the cartel intensify when his substitute arrives.
  9. "Wiedersehen": Jimmy and Kim’s revitalized relationship suffers when Jimmy gets bad news about his suspension. Nacho takes his new boss to see Gus and Hector, while Mike gets a forlorn and homesick Werner under control.
  10. "Winner": Under the threat of another year without practicing law, Jimmy is forced to reckon with his feelings about Chuck in a con to get his license renewed. Mike leads the manhunt for Werner to ensure the best outcome, but a malicious third party raises the stakes.

Nacho Varga

Following his reinstatement hearing, Jimmy decides to go all-in as "Saul Goodman", much to Kim's growing discontent. Not helping matters is Kim's mounting troubles with Mesa Verde, leaving her torn between the unscrupulous demands of her job and her desire to help the common man. Meanwhile, Don Lalo Salamanca casts a shadow over Gus' business of operations, as Nacho is forced to play both sides of the field in order to keep his dad safe, but it's only starting to dawn that no matter how well this is accomplished, he will not be able to easily leave this life behind. Furthermore, Mike begins to spiral after the unfortunate conclusion of Werner Ziegler's employment.


  1. "Magic Man": Reinstated and uninhibited, "Saul Goodman" leaves his sleazy mark on the Albuquerque legal world, to Kim's dismay (and grudging appreciation). Gus must account for the superlab's construction when Lalo's snooping pays off.
  2. "50% Off": Jimmy tries to get back into Kim's good graces, but his success as Saul Goodman is hard to ignore. Mike's anger over Werner bleeds into his family life. Nacho is pushed to the limit as he tries to cover for his underlings and appease both his bosses.
  3. "The Guy For This": Jimmy is plunged into cartel business when Nacho compels him to keep a dealer from going to prison, while a stubborn client forces Kim to come to terms with her job. Mike's self-loathing manifests in unhealthy ways.
  4. "Namaste": When her attempts to prevent Mr. Acker's eviction fall through, Kim petitions Jimmy to represent him. Howard tries to make amends. Gus pays the price of leaving Lalo unchecked. Mike's issues with himself and his family reach a turning point.
  5. "Dedicado a Max": Forced to recuperate in a mysterious Mexican village, Mike considers his future and if it's entwined with the Chicken Man. Jimmy and Kim bond over keeping Mesa Verde at bay, but the suspicions of Kim's partners force her to pick a side.
  6. "Wexler v. Goodman": Kim pulls the plug on her and Jimmy's plans, but he refuses to let the material they gathered go to waste. With Nacho and Mike on his team, Gus enacts a plan to take Lalo down.
  7. "JMM": Although Kim and Jimmy's relationship is stronger than ever, the stress of another cartel case puts strain on their new policy of full disclosure. Lalo forces Nacho to strike back at Gus, who is trying to smooth things over with his corporate and criminal business partners.
  8. "Bagman": When an imprisoned Lalo commands Jimmy to retrieve his sizable bail, the resulting disaster forces him to bond with Mike, survive a backpacking trip through the desert and consider what's important. Meanwhile, Kim takes Jimmy's disappearance into her own hands.
  9. "Bad Choice Road": Jimmy's trauma from his hellish desert trip leaves him hesitant to tell the truth, troubling both Kim and Lalo. Mike helps Jimmy when he can, but the truth behind the attempted robbery demands attention from him and Gus.
  10. "Something Unforgivable": Out of the cartel's grasp, Jimmy and Kim are free to resume their usual lives, but the new normal changes their relationship. Nacho accompanies Lalo to his ranch to meet his crew and cartel leaders, though being at the center of yet another scheme by Gus wears him down.

Howard Hamlin

Leaving Mesa Verde behind for good, Kim sides with her husband over the law and plots a convoluted sabotage of Howard and HHM to support their future endeavors. Lalo lives following his "assassination", and his enemies scramble as he goes far afield to get his revenge - Nacho searches for a way out of his predicament, Mike strives to protect his principles and his family, and Gus covers his tracks while preparing for Lalo's inevitable retribution. Finally, the truth about "Jorge de Guzman" comes out, making Jimmy an outcast in the legal realm. However, he is more than ready to abandon Jimmy McGill and become a more colorful, criminal character... a decision that will doom him to become no-one at all.


Part 1

  1. "Wine and Roses": Kim plans a risky first strike against Howard, even as Jimmy frets over his commitment. Lalo and Nacho try to throw off their pursuers. Mike worries about getting too close to a loose end.
  2. "Carrot and Stick": Kim's lateral move against Howard reunites Jimmy with some old clients. Nacho struggles as the forces against him close in. As the cracks in Gus's plans become apparent, Mike finds a way to take control.
  3. "Rock and Hard Place": Out of options, Nacho plays whatever cards he has to protect his father. Gus and his team arrange a callous act that Mike tries to soften. Kim and Jimmy's chicanery hits a bump when "Saul Goodman" draws increased scrutiny.
  4. "Hit and Run": Shut out by the legal establishment, Jimmy decides to further develop (and become) "Saul Goodman". Kim's new lease on life gets dragged down by furtive business. Gus and Mike leave no stone unturned with the Lalo situation.
  5. "Black and Blue": Howard wises up and begins making moves of his own. Kim and Jimmy touch base with their assistants and ready the next phase of their plan. Gus tries to control his panic while preparing for the worst. Lalo travels to a new locale to get his prueba.
  6. "Axe and Grind": As the point-of-no-return draws near, Kim is torn between the law and her plot against Howard. Jimmy's corrupting nature shows as he puts the finishing touches on "D-Day". Lalo digs into a weak point in Gus's operation.
  7. "Plan and Execution": After a slight setback, Jimmy and Kim gleefully watch their plan unfold. Howard tries to comprehend the scope of the conspiracy against him. Lalo returns to Albuquerque with a bang, as Mike and Gus prepare for war.

Part 2

  1. "Point and Shoot": Lalo conscripts his lawyers into his scheming, and Kim is forced into an inescapable bind. Gus changes tactics after a sudden insight. Mike hunts for the full story of Lalo's night out, painfully learning the hazy boundaries of "the game".
  2. "Fun and Games": Kim clamps down on her self-loathing at Howard's wake and turns over a new leaf. Gus wipes the slate clean with the cartel and gets back to work. Mike tries to make things right with Nacho's father. Jimmy leaves his past behind for good.
  3. "Nippy": In the far future, "Gene" revives Slippin' Jimmy to make new friends, take care of an imminent problem and get a long-lost taste of his glory days.
  4. "Breaking Bad": After hearing bad news, Gene loops in Jeff and his friend to a new racket and falls back into old habits under a new identity. Saul Goodman survives a kidnapping and gets his P.I. to investigate the newest players in the underworld.
  5. "Waterworks": After a blast from the past, Kim heads back to Albuquerque to exorcise her demons. Viktor slips away after his robbery, only to get caught up with one last loose end...
  6. "Saul Gone": With his final verdict approaching, Viktor/Gene/Saul/Jimmy prepares to banish his regrets and cut ties with his better self. Kim tries to escape from her personal prison, but her old beau has one last con for her to see.

The advice itself is superficially reasonable, though the cartoons tend to depict how it applies to horrible situations, or how the consequences for not following it can be quite grim.
