Recap / Beast Wars S 1 E 23 Law Of The Jungle

Go To

When a friend is lost in battle, Tigatron vows to leave the Beast Wars.

Tropes:

  • Always a Bigger Fish: An example not involving characters being saved from one predator by another, however, the episode opens with a dragonfly being eaten by a frog, being eaten by a snake, being captured by an eagle.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: As the three Predacons regroup on a cliff.
Terrorsaur: We must return to base!
Inferno: The Royalty commanded we capture the Maximals invading our territory. Will you explain our failure to him?
Waspinator: [nervously] Megatron not like failure!
  • Back for the Dead: Snowstalker.
  • Badass Pacifist: Tigatron may hate violence, but he's not incapable of kicking ass.
  • Bait-and-Switch: It looks like Waspinator is going to ambush Tigatron but no, it's Snowstalker. Tigatron ambushes Waspinator.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Tigatron still mourns Snowstalker, but he's again committed to defending the planet against Predacons.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Tigatron argues that war is destructive, endangers the world, and that brokering a peace must be the solution. Dinobot argues that the Predacons live for conquest and Megatron will not allow any kind of peace that doesn't result from the death of all Maximals and the rampant exploitation and destruction of the planet anyway.
  • By Primus, What Have I Done?: Tigatron when he finds Snowstalker's corpse.
  • Call-Back: Inferno refers to Tigatron as the destroyer of his colony and wants revenge against him here.
  • Comes Great Responsibility: Optimus points out that he opposes the war as much as anyone, but he sees it as his responsibility to fight it.
Tigatron: We don't belong here, Optimus.
Optimus: But we are here and as Maximals, we've got a duty to explore and defend this world.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Cheetor and Dinobot are searching for more alien sites.
    • Inferno mentions Tigatron's destruction of his stasis pod.
    • Snowstalker appears for the first time since her and Tigatron's debut.
  • Due to the Dead: Tigatron buries Snowstalker and makes a grave marker out of some rocks.
"Goodbye, Snowstalker. Let your hunting ground shelter you now."
  • Elemental Powers: Tigatron uses his ice weaponry to extinguish a tree that Inferno has lit on fire.
  • Evil Laugh:
    • Inferno observes Tigatron quitting the team and lets out a laugh. He then catches himself so that no one notices his presence.
    • In Dinobot's Imagine Spot, Megatron is doing this, as Cybertron gets ripped in half.
  • Forever War: In trying to reason with Tigatron, Dinobot alludes to this when talking about how Predacons will run wild if unopposed and destroy anything in their path. He cites how it has always been this way in one form or another going back to the days of Autobots and Decepticons.
  • Freudian Trio: Tigatron is the Id, reacting very emotionally to a tragic incident. Dinobot is the Superego, ignoring this one tragedy in favor of the reality of Predacons' history of belligerence. Optimus is the Ego, displaying compassion towards a suffering friend but seeing the bigger picture.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Essentially what Dinobot says to Tigatron. Yes it's sad that Snowstalker is dead but the Predacons aren't going to stop in their goal of galactic conquest.
  • Got Me Doing It: After being around Inferno for so long, Terrorsaur briefly refers to Megatron as "The Royalty" before correcting himself.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Tigatron's view of his own stray shot causing the avalanche that kills Snowstalker.
  • I Owe You My Life:
Dinobot: [to Tigatron] You chose a perfect moment to rejoin our ranks. I am in your debt.
  • Imagine Spot: Dinobot discusses the dangers of not fighting to stop Megatron. A sequence shows that, boosted with the planet's energon, Megatron's ship wreaking havoc on Cybertron.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: Cheetor and Dinobot are out looking for more alien sites. Terrorsaur also notes Megatron has been testy lately, foreshadowing how the big guy's been expecting what happens at the start of the next episode.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Dinobot is completely insensitive and cruel to a grieving Tigatron, but he's all too right in pointing out that Megatron won't stop conquering and killing everything in sight unless the Maximals stop him first.
  • Little "No": Tigatron, as he pulls rocks off Snowstalker's body. Then he sees she's already dead.
  • More Dakka: The cluster bombs that the Predacons employ.
  • My Instincts Are Showing: When Terrorsaur holds up "the signal" Waspinator acts like an insect being drawn to a bug zapper.
  • No Sympathy: Dinobot towards Tigatron's grief for Snowstalker.
  • Oh, Crap!: Tigatron as the mountain explodes while Snowstalker's still on it.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Punctuated by weapons fire, no less.
Tigatron: [to Inferno] YOU! WILL! LEAVE! THE WILD! ALONE!!!!
  • Resigned to the Call:
Tigatron: I must still grieve for my friend, but as long as there are Predacons to harm this world, we Maximals must protect it.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Terrorsaur is clearly frustrated by Waspinator and Inferno's antics.
  • Title Drop: Dinobot and Tigatron observe a tiger take down a gazelle.
Dinobot: That is the law of the jungle: the hunters and the hunted, scrap or be scrapped.
  • You Have Failed Me: After Terrorsaur advocates returning to base, Inferno says they were ordered to deal with the Maximals and that going back now would mean being failures. Waspinator nervously points out that, even when downplaying the trope, Megatron reacts very badly to failure.
