Tropes:

  • And the Adventure Continues: The episode ends with the Bat-team preparing to enter the Batcave and get to work saving Gotham City again.
  • Bad Boss: Marquis kills his pilot via headshot after the Batblimp gets hacked.
  • Bait the Dog: After being beaten into submission by Ryan, Marquis acts like he is coming to his senses, only to shove his sister through a window.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Mary suggests Alice go to the Weisse Kaninchen Sanatorium in Switzerland. "Weisse Kaninchen" is German for "White Rabbit".
  • Bittersweet Ending: Marquis' plan to carry out a mass-killing with Joker's acid is foiled and Ryan uses the joy-buzzer on him to successfully restore his sanity, allowing him, Ryan and Jada to be a family for the first time. Alice chooses to leave Gotham to work on herself and reclaim her identity as Beth Kane, having come to an understanding with Ryan and with Mary's love and support for her intact. Ryan has reclaimed Wayne Enterprises and the Bat Team's access to the Batcave, and is now in a committed relationship with Sophie. However, the fallout from Jada revealing Marquis' crimes, including murdering his father, is yet to be seen. Also, Luke had to sacrifice his father's AI to save the city, but he's at peace with that decision and has fully embraced his heroic identity as Batwing. On the other hand, an entire part of Gotham was obliterated with acidic explosions (albeit the casualties are implied to be small, but possibly not zero), leaving a burning toxic wasteland containing a feral humanoid creature in its midst, which kills longtime minor character Dana Dewitt and her cameraman during a news report.
  • Cut Short: With the announced cancellation of the series on April 29, 2022, it seems that the Cliffhanger ending involving a mysterious zombie-like creature will never be resolved.
  • Destination Defenestration: When Ryan lets her guard down for a moment, Marquis shoves her through one of the Batblimps's windows, though she takes him with her.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set: Marquis transmits a signal all over the city announcing his plan to reveal Batwoman's identity. The Bat Team uses the same technology to tell everyone to take shelter from the acid bombs.
  • Dread Zeppelin: Marquis uses the Batcave to find the location of a Batblimp, which he loads with barrels of acid tied to explosives, intending to rain death and destruction onto Gotham.
  • Grand Finale: Due to the show being Cut Short after three seasons, this episode retroactively serves as this. Batwoman, the fourth Arrowverse series to end, wraps up with three seasons and 51 episodes.
  • Heel–Face Turn:
    • Thanks to having the joy buzzer used on him, Marquis seems to have been cured of his psychosis and is ready to be a real brother to Ryan.
    • While it is likely too early to tell if it will stick, Alice seems to be taking steps towards her recovery, leaving Gotham on civil terms with the heroes. She even wears a dark brown wig, showing her taking back her Beth identity.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Several non-fatal ones:
    • Jada reveals the true circumstances of her husband's death to Wayne Enterprises, risking her reputation to stop her own son.
    • Luke leaves his father's AI behind to override the Batblimp, which goes down in the explosion.
    • Alice willingly relinquishes the joy buzzer, helping Ryan cure her brother with it.
  • He's Back!: After being zapped by the joy buzzer, Marquis finally comes back to his old self after waking up.
  • Journey to Find Oneself: At the end of the episode, Alice leaves a note behind for Mary telling her that she is off to find herself and she'll see her on the flipside as she leaves Gotham for the foreseeable future (probably for the sanatorium in Switzerland Mary recommended).
  • Mass Hypnosis: Using the Penguin's umbrella via broadcast, the Bat Team manages to hypnotize the entire population of Gotham into taking cover from Marquis's impending bombardment.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • There are a number of similarities between Ryan and Marquis's confrontation and the battle between Batwoman and Alice in Batwoman: Elegy. Both involve siblings fighting each other, where one is a bat-vigilante and the other is a comic-book-style-crazy villain; the disturbed sibling has a moment of clarity; the villainous sibling's plan involves spreading chemicals from a stolen aircraft; and the heroic sibling ends up holding the other by the arm above a long drop.
    • Marquis's plan to lure the citizens of Gotham to the streets and then carry out a mass killing is more than a little reminiscent of the Joker's plans in Batman (1989).
    • Moreover, the notion of a secondary person posthumously carrying out the Joker's plans before being cured of his influence by a joy buzzer to the head brings to mind Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.
    • The Weiße Kaninchen Sanatorium Alice leaves for is where Beth Kane stayed in the comics between the New 52 and DC Rebirth.
  • No Sympathy: How Sophie reacts in regards to Alice, when Mary tries to convince the team of giving the joy buzzer to her.
  • Oh, Crap!: How Luke reacts when he realizes that Marquis stole the Batblimp and Ryan when Alice tells her about his true plans.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Marquis gives one to Ryan during their final fight, mocking her desire for their mother to consider her as family despite abandoning her.
  • Scenery Gorn: The part of Gotham that the Batblimp explodes over leaves a toxic wasteland littered with fire, to the point where hazmat suits are required to be in its vicinity—and even those don't protect against a mysterious zombie-like creature that's prowling it.
  • Season Finale: Of season 3, and with the cancellation of the series, this also makes it the Grand Finale.
  • Sequel Hook: Amidst the toxic wasteland, a mutated creature attacks Dana Dewitt and her team.
  • Shoot the Television: Marquis does this after the news report about him killing his father and being fired from Wayne Enterprises.
  • So Proud of You: The final words of AI-Lucius towards Luke.
  • Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred!: When Ryan is hanging on the edge of a building, holding Marquis with one hand, he tries to goad her into letting him fall.
  • Title Drop: Marquis says "We having fun yet?" in his broadcast to Gotham.
  • Villainous Rescue: Alice saves Ryan and Marquis hanging from the edge of a building.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Gal: Alice and Marquis both insinuate that Ryan's desire to cure Marquis with the joy buzzer stems from hoping to finally win Jada's approval.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Shockingly, Ryan, of all people, tells this to Alice after giving her the option to use the joy buzzer. She points out that it's not that Alice can't overcome her own psychosis without it, it's that she is afraid to. However, Ryan knows that Alice is strong enough to face her demons without needing the joy buzzer while Marquis can't. In the end, Alice willingly gives the buzzer back to Ryan to use on Marquis and then leaves Gotham to find herself.
