Slappy's tree home becomes the Christmas tree in the middle of the town, with her in it.

The Christmas Tree contains examples of:

  • Arboreal Abode: Slappy and Skippy's tree home was cut down and moved to Rocky Fellow Center for Christmas.
  • Artistic License – Biology: Slappy is shown to have been hibernating when her home gets used as a giant Christmas tree, however squirrels do not hibernate.
  • Big Blackout: When Slappy hits the control switch with a giant mallet, she causes a power outage throughout the entire city, albeit a brief one.
  • The Cameo: The short ends with a cameo from Yakko, Wakko and Dot. This is their only appearance in the entire episode (unless you count the theme song).
  • Christmas Carolers: When a group of them is singing outside her home-turned-Christmas-Tree, Slappy refers to the noise as “...the pack of wolves baying at the moon again” and throws a bucket of water on them.
  • Christmas Episode: It’s Christmas time in New York City and everyone is happily celebrating the lighting of the Christmas tree, except for Slappy and Skippy whose home was taken out of its natural environment for the event.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Upon waking up from hibernation and walking out of her tree to find her stash of nuts, Slappy fails to realize that she’s in New York City instead of a forest.
  • Failures on Ice: Slappy walking through the ice rink to find her nuts causes two ice skaters to crash into each other and bump heads as stars circle above them.
  • Fictional Counterpart: In New York City, locations like “Sacks 5th Avenue” and “Rocky Fellow Center” are shown.
  • Heavy Sleeper: The head of Rocky Fellow and his wife manage to sleep through Skippy using a bulldozer to move their entire house into the middle of the city. Slappy and Skippy also slept through their relocation, but at least they were hibernating.
  • Here We Go Again!: After the head of Rockyfellow Plaza returns Slappy's tree to the forest, he decides to decorate Rockyfellow Plaza with the Warners' water tower. The carolers' singing and the bright lights end up waking the Warners up.
  • Idiot Ball: Slappy's pretty dumbed down in this cartoon, spending the first half of it stumbling through her own misconceptions like Mr. Magoo, though it could be explained as her being groggy from being woken up mid-hibernation.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Katey Cupcake and Almond Rocha are parodies of Katie Couric and Al Roker, who, at the time, hosted the Christmas in Rockefeller Center specials on NBC.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Slappy says “I oughta just hibernate straight through winter, like Yogi and his pal Bobo or Baba or whatever.”
    • Exasperated with the Christmas lights, Slappy yells out “For the love of Peter Potamus!”
  • Special Edition Title: It snows during the Title Sequence, but the Theme Tune remains the same.
  • Talking in Your Sleep: Slappy is giving an acceptance speech in her sleep before her alarm clock wakes her up.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: When Slappy tells the head of 30 Rocky Fellow to move her tree back to the forest and he kicks her out of his office, she decides to get revenge by moving his home to the middle of a busy street in the city.
  • You Remind Me of X: Slappy says to the head of Rockyfellow Plaza, "You remind me of a very young Huckleberry Hound."
  • Your Size May Vary: Slappy and Skippy keep changing size throughout the short, going from their regular sizes to the size of normal squirrels.

In this first parody of Nightline, Ted Foppel holds a discussion on the age-old question "Why did the chicken cross the road?" with his special guests Chicken Boo, Pinky and the Brain, the Goodfeathers, and Runt. In the second broadcast, Ted Foppel holds a discussion on "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" which Chicken Boo automatically answers.

Punchline (Parts 1 and 2) contains examples of:

  • Chicken-and-Egg Paradox: The topic of the second broadcast is “What came first, the chicken or the egg?”
  • Chicken Joke: The topic of the first broadcast is "Why did the chicken cross the road?"
  • The Cloud Cuckoolander Was Right: Pinky is the only one who recognizes the consultant (Chicken Boo) as a chicken.
Brain: A giant chicken? Don’t be absurd, Pinky. No one but a rank conspiracy theorist would believe something that preposterous.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Brain, who thinks there was a second chicken behind the grassy knoll.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Brain accuses Pinky of being a conspiracy theorist when he says he thinks Dr. Peckaboo is a chicken, meanwhile Brain is acting like one himself with his theory about why the chicken crossed the road.
  • Iris Out: An egg-shaped one closes in on Chicken Boo at the end of the episode.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Punchline is hosted by Ted Foppel, a parody of then Nightline host Ted Koppel.
  • Who Shot JFK?: The Brain's "second chicken" theory is a parody of the "second shooter" conspiracy theory in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
