Go To

The fortieth episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

A female space hunter named Katella, who is capturing animals all over Mobius for a Zoo, teams up with Robotnik to capture Sonic.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Katella is this to Robotnik due to her overaggressiveness.
  • Acronym Confusion: This exchange between Robotnik and Coconuts:
Robotnik: You lame-brain, knuckle-dragging dork! How dare you interrupt me when I'm having a bath with my rubber crocodile!
Coconuts: But I only wanted to tell you I saw one of those F.O.U's - I mean, C.I.A's, uh, or C.O.D's, heheh, I mean...
Robotnik: Get to the point, or your name will be M.U.D.!
  • Ass Kicks You: Momma Robotnik rams into Katella butt-first, leaving her flattened against the wall.
  • Banana Peel: Sonic slips on these while he looks for Tails in the jungle.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comparison: This exchange between Momma and Katella when she shows up to the latter's wedding with Robotnik:
Momma: How come you didn't invite me to your wedding, you slime bucket?
Katella: Don't you call my cuddly-wuddly a slime bucket!
Momma: I was talking to YOU, cheese-head!
  • Big Brother Instinct: When Tails gets captured by Katella, Sonic vows to stop at nothing to rescue him.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Momma Robotnik, of all people, has one of these moments to keep Robotnik from being married to Katella.
  • The Cameo: George, the male stork from "Tails' New Home" appears in this episode.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Contrived Coincidence: Lampshaded by Katella when Sonic bursts into the room pretending to be a justice of the peace after Robotnik claims they don't have one to officiate their wedding.
Robotnik: W-we don't even have a justice of the peace!
Sonic (dressed as a minister): I'm your friendly justice of the peace from Insta-Wed!
Katella (winking at the audience): What a coinky-dink.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Katella falls in love with Robotnik, but she absolutely refuses to keep her hands off him. Robotnik doesn't love her, but he's too scared to say anything, and is visibly relieved when Momma shows up and interrupts their Shotgun Wedding, whereby Katella calls off the whole thing because she refuses to have Momma as an in-law. Sonic himself was the one who invited Momma, but it was more to get rid of Katella than for Robotnik's sake, though Katella's abuse was not considered a good thing.
  • Epic Fail: When Katella arrives at his fortress, Robotnik orders Scratch and Grounder to go downstairs and open the door.
Robotnik: Think you can manage that without falling on your faces?
    Scratch: No problem.
    Grounder: Can do.
(they proceed to do just that.)
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Katella's made it clear she's madly in love with Robotnik because he's an utterly twisted and depraved bastard. However, she balks at the idea of gaining Momma Robotnik, who's far worse than her son, as an in-law.
  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It!: At the beginning of this episode, a News Hawk says this as he hands out newspapers informing people that the citizens of Mobius are disappearing. At first, Sonic thinks that the News Hawk is making this story up just to sell his newspapers, but then he disappears and a News Cat passes by telling people of that fact. The News Cat re-appears near the end of the episode when Sonic rescues the citizens of Mobius from Katella.
  • Furry Confusion: The squirrel used as an example of a wild animal in the "Sonic Says" segment is partially clothed, just like Sonic and Tails. In fact, he reappears fully anthropomorphized as the Mayor in "Magnificent Sonic".
  • Humiliation Conga: Sonic disguises himself as a justice of the peace, marries Robotnik to Katella, and invites Momma Robotnik to the wedding.
  • Hypocrite: In Momma Robotnik's debut episode, Momma gets mad at Robotnik and accuses him of lying to her when he says he didn't forget her birthday. In this episode, she gets mad when Robotnik tells the truth about Katella forcing him to marry her, saying she raised him to be a liar.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: At the end of this episode, when Momma spanks Robotnik with her umbrella for telling the truth, Robotnik promises her that he'll never tell the truth again, then says, "I hate that hedgehog!"
  • Killer Rabbit: This episode's "Sonic Says" warns viewers to stay away from wild animals and even unfamiliar pets, lest they could become this. The end of the segment shows Robotnik being chased by a fearsome dog.
  • Losing a Shoe in the Struggle: When Katella captures the citizens of Mobius, all Sonic and Tails find of them are Mildred's bowling shoes, someone's socks, a pair of gloves, a purse, and the Mayor's underpants. When Tails gets captured when Sonic has his back turned, Sonic finds his glove.
  • Motor Mouth: Mildred. When Sonic asks her why everyone on Mobius is disappearing, she tells the story of when she and her friend, Lisa were at a baseball game, going into every detail. The Mayor has to cut her story short.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Katella's sole reason for wanting Robotnik is because he's a horrible person.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Collie Chang is a spoof of newscaster Connie Chung.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Almost. The thought of getting Momma Robotnik for a mother-in-law is too much for Katella.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Katella gives up on Robotnik for a husband after she sees what his mother is like, and immediately leaves Mobius after dumping them out of her ship.
Katella: The last thing I need is that battleax for a mother-in-law!
  • Shout-Out: One of the creatures Katella captures is a Duck-Dog, a creature seen in Dr. Seuss' ABC.
  • Spotting the Thread: Sonic knows that Robotnik is trying to trap him, as he sees a doll of Tails he uses as bait. He realizes that the doll doesn't smell like chili dogs, and that Tails would never talk with a mouth full of water, but still falls for the trap in order to find the real Tails.
  • Trap Is the Only Option: When Robotnik and Katella team up to capture Sonic, they lure him using an obvious doll of Tails, whom Katella captured earlier. Even though Sonic knows it's a trap (he even informs the viewers of it), he willingly falls for it in the hope of finding the real Tails.
  • Villain Team-Up: Robotnik and Katella team up to capture Sonic.
