Funny / Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City

Go To

  • In the first episode, when Strawberry and Aunt Praline are driving through the city, Strawberry begins to sing her Leitmotif song “No Ordinary Berry” but is interrupted by Aunt Praline, who tells her to save her song for later once she gets settled.
  • In "Lemon's Explosive Oven", when Strawberry entrusts Lemon Meringue with upgrading her oven, the latter throws her out of her food truck and on her butt as she gets to work.
Strawberry: Let me know if you need any— [Lemon shuts the door] And you're gone.
Lemon: (in confessional) I'm gonna turn that oven into a baking beast!
    • When Strawberry tries out the massive oven that Lemon built:
Strawberry: (in confessional) Lemon really came through for me. I was afraid she'd get carried away and cause some kind of disaster, but I guess I should've trusted her.
[A pot on top of the oven suddenly erupts into a pillar of flame]
Strawberry: (in confessional, exasperated) No. Never mind. There it is.

Strawberry: Um, Lemon, [chuckles awkwardly] maybe the oven is a little too powerful, I don't know.
Lemon: What do you mean? This is great!
[Strawberry takes out a tray of cinnamon rolls that burst into flames]
Lemon: Huh. Maybe I can turn it down. A little.
[Lemon grabs the temperature control knob, but accidentally rips it off]
      Lemon: Uh-oh.
      Strawberry: "Uh-oh"? What's "uh-oh"? What's "uh-oh"?!
[Oven begins to overload, Lemon puts her goggles on]
      Lemon: (whispering) Run.
    • At the end, Strawberry complains about her mixer, but when Lemon offers to take a look at it, Strawberry picks it up and throws it through the wall of the truck, accompanied by the sound of a cat screeching, and decides to stir her batter by hand.
  • In "It's My Purr-ty", when Custard is feeling let down because Strawberry seemingly forgot her birthday, the other girls' pets try to tell their owners about it. Most of them can't decipher what the pets are trying to tell them, but Lemon is able to figure it out just from Frappe saying nothing:
    Lemon: Who forgot what?
    • Lemon decides to sample Strawberry's cupcakes for Custard, which are sprinkled with cat food. Against Lime Chiffon's warning, she eats them anyway, calling them crunchy.
  • In "Berry Bounty Banquet", Strawberry and Praline set up the banquet only for Strawberry to throw her heirloom spoon into the ceiling, creating a chain reaction that destroys everything. She then admonishes the spoon:
Strawberry: (in confessional) You are not lucky, spoon. You are bad.
  • The ways Strawberry and Orange Blossom try to one-up each other in "The Great Gooseberry Chase". Orange uses rollerskates, so Strawberry uses a bike, followed by Orange on an ostrich, Strawberry on a hang glider, and Orange with a jetpack.
  • In "A Berryworks Mystery", Blueberry says that Cheesecake runs an underground poker ring for other animals, which Lime is incredulous of:
Lime: (in confessional) Blueberry Muffin is very creative. With her facts. She makes them up.
    • Throughout the episode, every time Lime tells the history of Big Apple City, Blueberry interrupts her to make some bizarre claim about previous events being influenced by magical phenomena, eventually making Lime mad. At the end of the episode, the poker ring comment turns out to be true, so Lime reconsiders believing in everything else Blueberry said.
  • In "Robot Strawberry", when Lemon reveals the Cakenator 6, Strawberry asks her what happened to the first five. Cue Flashback: the first model exploded when Lemon tested her leg movement, the second stirred some batter that exploded in Lemon's face before exploding herself, the third threw a pie in Lemon's face before exploding, the fourth dropped two pies on the ground, deployed a propeller from her hat and her torso flew away, leaving her legs to explode; and the fifth gave Lemon a cupcake before exploding again, followed by the fourth model flying by and taking the cupcake out of Lemon's hand.
    Lemon: Don't worry about it.
    • At the end:
Lemon: It's okay, I've got another idea.
Strawberry: Let me guess, the Cakenator 7?
[Lemon fantasizes about building a Humongous Mecha and destroying the city]
Lemon: Something like that. [Evil Laugh]
    • As Lemon laughs, the Cakenator 4 can be seen again flying in the background. Its presence becomes a Running Gag in later episodes, such as in "Spring Cleaning" when it flies out of the girls' pile of junk when Lime topples it and again when they shove the pile into Bread Pudding's office, and "All About Lemon" when it flies across the screen after Strawberry mentions the Cakenators to Plum Puddin'.
  • Huckleberry Pie’s Insane Troll Logic moment in “Who Stole the Pies?”:
Huckleberry Pie: Her sign said “Hot pies. Only eat when cool”. Strawberry likes my music, she thinks I’m cool. So, she leaves those pies out for me.”
  • “And the Smoothie Goes To…”:
    • During the smoothie competition, Strawberry commends Blueberry for helping Orange discover her creative side. It then immediately cuts to Orange tossing in a bunch of random fruits and vegetables resulting in a dark green sludge, at which Strawberry worries Blueberry turned the creativity up too much.
    • Upon seeing Bread Pudding exclaim in horror at Orange Blossom’s smoothie, Blueberry tries to reassure Orange by saying that most artists don’t receive recognition for their work until they die.
    • After being awarded “Worst Smoothie”, Orange still celebrates because she technically still won something and had an entire new category created for her entry.
  • "Huck's New Job" features Huck trying to find work with one of his friends. It never ends well. Highlights include:
    • Eating every treat in reach whenever Strawberry takes her eyes off him.
    • His "mind blowing" idea for Blueberry's next ice cream: Vanilla... in a Cone!
    • Handing Lemon every tool in the box except the wrench she asked for, plus an inexplicable rubber chicken.
  • In "Dreamy Dessert", while trying to remember the last ingredient needed for her cupcakes, Strawberry thinks about what she did that day. There's a snippet of her singing "No Ordinary Berry", but the only lyrics we hear of it are the words "complicated recipe" before it immediately cuts to the next scene.
  • In "Strawberry's Surprise", Raspberry Tart wants Bread Pudding and Sour Grapes to write down her extravagant requests for her birthday. All Sour did was draw a doodle of her and Raspberry holding hands and wearing crowns and sashes while Bread sits alone and sulks.
Bread: So, we're gonna delve deeper into THAT later...
  • The beginning of "Beat the Heat", where Strawberry disregards Aunt Praline and the news saying how hot it is and opens the front door, getting hit with a blast of heat that causes her hair to immediately become frizzed from the humidity. She then walks by a rat cooking an egg on the sidewalk.
Strawberry: (in confessional) Okay, yeah, it's a little toasty.
    • When she meets up with the rest of the gang, it's shown that their picnic didn't go as planned; their blanket caught fire and burned to ash, followed by their umbrella, then when a chair that Lime is about to sit on ignites, Lemon lets out a Big "NO!" and pushes her out of the way. They try to put the fire out with a hose, which also burns to nothing.
  • In "Adventures in Berrysitting", Strawberry agrees to look after Honeydew Sorbet, who proves to be far more hyperactive than she first appeared. When she climbs onto the roof of Strawberry's truck, she stomps on one of the buckets of berries there and then suddenly blasts into space in a column of pink energy before returning with a Ground-Shattering Landing.
Strawberry: (in confessional, wringing berry juice out of her hair) What does Mrs. Crumbcake feed that kid?
  • In "Traffic Jam", Strawberry eventually becomes delirious from being held up in traffic:
Orange: We're never moving again, are we?
Strawberry: Nope. Traffic is our new home, we live here now. You, me, and dozens of our little cupcake children. [draws a smiley face into a cupcake] We'll raise them as our own, [takes a bite out of the cupcake] and we'll never see our friends again. [stares at the half-eaten cupcake] It tastes like sunshine, and sleepovers.
    Blueberry: Hey, berries!
Strawberry: Blueberry? Huck? Is this... some kind of traffic mirage? Are you real?
    • After the revelation that they could've sold their cupcakes while in traffic, Strawberry and Orange appear in the confessional, but are both in Stunned Silence. Then they try selling to the other drivers, only for the light to change and everyone else to leave, so Strawberry sets out to get in another traffic jam.
  • In "Bad Day Blues", the montage of Strawberry's mishaps at work ends with her putting a candle in a cupcake, which then explodes in her face without provocation.
  • At the beginning of "Scary-oke", the Berries decorate the Berryworks for Fright Fall. Despite Lime's objection, Lemon decorates her with a spider web, to her annoyance.
  • In "Strawberry Bake Fail", Strawberry tries making macarons. After several attempts, she makes a perfect-looking batch and shares them with her friends; most of them turn to dust and blow away, but Lemon's, in keeping up with tradition, explodes in her face.
    • In Strawberry's mindscape, when her spoon asks how long it takes to mix cake batter, she says that one of the factors is if you want it to be fluffy, which is accompanied by a sheep, or dense, which is accompanied by a framed photo of Huckleberry Pie.
    • When Strawberry makes another tray of macarons, they all immediately burst into flames. Lemon eats one anyway.
  • In "Strawberry Nightmare", Strawberry dreams that she's in an alternate version of Big Apple City ruled by a version of her who is wearing the Pieman's outfit and has his mustache. When she returns to reality, she's happy that everyone has their usual cart, they're not all wearing her hat, the sun isn't talking, and she doesn't have to wax her upper lip.
  • In "It's All in the Palm", Blueberry gives everyone a palm reading summed up in one word. Lemon's is "Boom." While she asks what that means, Blueberry reads the robot hand of Lemon's latest invention.
    Blueberry: Definitely "Boom."
  • In "The Cricket", Aunt Praline goes to increasingly extreme lengths to get rid of the little bug, eventually breaking out a grenade-like bug bomb with the following warning lable:
Strawberry: Set timer, get to minimum safe distance, obliterates on contact?! Do not inhale, may be lethal... Oh! Fresh tropical breeze scent!
  • In "Crabapple Jam", while Strawberry is trying to reassure everyone about the new management, Blueberry suggests they take a deep, relaxing breath to see the world through calmer eyes.
Blueberry: (deep breath in, then out) I think we should panic.
    (Everyone but Strawberry starts screaming)
  • In "A Splash of Fun", Strawberry tries to convince the manager of the Upper Crust Social Club to let her and her friends use their pool (which also happens to be the only pool in Big Apple City), and her methods include: Asking nicely, guilt-tripping the manager with Custard doing Puppy-Dog Eyes, having Huck sing a song about sharing, and going on a rant about the failings of capitalism, before she just decides to disguise herself as a chef and claim everything in the freezer is melting.
Strawberry Shortcake: (deep breath) Propagating an exclusive use of a pool based purely on a capitalist system enforces an unfair class system which (unintelligible).
Manager: (repeatedly hitting the elevator button)
  • In "Strawberry's Shortcake", When Orange and Raspberry ask Strawberry what type of strawberry shortcake she plans on making, Strawberry begins to dodge the subject, before pretending she ran out of butter right after EATING AN ENTIRE STICK OF IT.
    • During their chase, Strawberry ends up using a hot air balloon to escape, prompting Raspberry and Orange to run back to the Berryworks and ask Lemon for something to pop it. She then wordlessly hands them a giant laser cannon, to which Raspberry asks if the situation's getting excessive. After a brief pause, Orange says "Nope!" and then immediately fires it at the hot air balloon.
  • "Lord of the S'Mores" starts with an overly dramatic narration by Huckleberry, describing the gang making s'mores in a similar manner to the creation of the One Ring. During the fight over the last marshmallow, Huck continues his dramatic narration.
  • "Hot, Fresh, and Trending"
    • At the beginning of the episode, Strawberry says she finds it refreshing to be able to bake at the Berryworks without the Purple Pieman around. Cue Pieman walking past her truck.
    • When Purple Pieman shows off how "trendy" he and his Pieworks shop is, he advertises an upside-down muffin. The Berryworks patrons are immediately won over.
    • Upon seeing the customers leaving, Bread yells for everyberry to meet him in his office. Jump Cut to his office, where everyone is cramped together because of how small it is, with Huckleberry being pressed against the camera. Bread decides to meet in the courtyard instead.
    • Bread Pudding's attempts to make the Berryworks hip by following social media trends, which include:
    • Right after everything goes wrong and leaves the Berryworks a mess, Strawberry's oven goes off, as she was baking sugar cookies at the start of the episode. Cookies usually take around 10 minutes to bake, and since Strawberry's oven is also built to bake stuff quicker than usual, this means everything in the episode happened over the course of literal minutes.
    • At the end, when Pieman's trying to get the customers to come back to the Pieworks, he tries to rap. It's really bad. Bread Pudding then notes that he's trying too hard to be trendy, despite having spent the entire episode doing the same thing.
