Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Ana Sani voices Strawberry Shortcake, Aunt Praline, Custard, the Cakenator, and Honeydew Sorbet.
    • Bahia Watson voices Orange Blossom, Cherry Blossom, and Cherry Crisp.
    • Diana Kaarina voices Blueberry Muffin, Everything Muffin, Everything Bagel, and Mrs. Crumbcake.
    • Margarita Valderrama voices Lime Chiffon and Lime Tart.
    • Andrea Libman voices Lemon Meringue, Lemon Tort, Lemon Drop, and Sherry Bobbleberry.
    • Tabitha St. Germain voices Raspberry Tart, Pupcake, Cheesecake, Parfait, Caramela Éclair, Figgy Pudding, and Genoise La Creme.
    • Vincent Tong voices Huckleberry Pie, Hippy Berry, Spicy Crust, and Pineapple Clafoutis.
    • Chirag Naik voices Bread Pudding and Mr. Mangosteen.
    • Bethany Brown voices Plum Pudding, Crepe Suzette, and Peppermint Fizz.
    • Shannon Chan-Kent voices Granola Crunch and Raspberry Tart’s singing voice.
    • Ian Hanlin voices The Peculiar Purple Pieman, Johnnycake Cobbler, and J. Quincy Cupcake.
  • Actor Existence Limbo: Due to every episode having only a 4-minute runtime, there are occasions where not every berry who appears will have a speaking role. Lemon Meringue is usually the recipient of this, being silent in several appearances. For side characters like Banoffee or Apple Byte, they generally remain silent in appearances as their voice actors were guest stars with limited availability.
  • Channel Hop: When the series first premiered, it originally aired new episodes weekly on the official Strawberry Shortcake YouTube Channel. Midway through Season 3, new episodes began releasing on the dedicated Berry in the Big City Channel, though extra content would continue to be released on the regular Strawberry channel.
  • Creator Backlash: WildBrain apparently saw the scrapped 2017 reboot as too much of an embarrassment, prompting them to purge most if not all traces of it from their official literature. According to Mike Vogel, the showrunner for the Berry in the Big City web series, WildBrain were unsure about the redesign, and the CGI look shown off would end up being retooled into what would become Berry in the Big City.
  • Crossdressing Voices:
  • Licensed Games:
    • A tie-in Roblox game called “Big Apple City RP”. Later moved to “Strawberry Shortcake RP - Big Apple City”
    • A mobile app game released by Tap Tap Tales.
  • Non-Singing Voice:
    • Raspberry Tart's regular voice is done by Tabitha St. Germain, but her singing is done by Shannon Chan-Kent.
    • Margarita Valderrama provides Lime Chiffon's speaking voice, while Cassandra Consiglio does her singing.
  • Only So Many Canadian Actors: Berry in the Big City uses a mix of Toronto-based actors (Ana Sani, Bahia Watson, Margarita Valderrama) and Vancouver-based actors (Andrea Libman, Diana Kaarina, Vincent Tong, Meg Roe, Tabitha St. Germain).
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Berry in the Big City had two crossovers with the Girl's Tales podcast, where the Strawberry Shortcake characters featured were portrayed by different actors.
      • Sabrina Glow played Strawberry Shortcake rather than Ana Sani.
      • Melissa Victor voiced Orange Blossom instead of Bahia Watson.
      • Cassie Glow played Lemon Meringue rather than Andrea Libman.
      • Triya Leong played Blueberry Muffin rather than Diana Kaarina.
      • Tessa Flannery voiced Sour Grapes instead of Meg Roe.
      • Tyler Keyes voiced Johnnycake Cobbler instead of Ian Hanlin.
    • In "Strawberry Shortcake's Perfect Holiday", Tabitha St. Germain voiced Sour Grapes rather than Meg Roe.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Berry in the Big City has a few examples.
    • Banoffee, who is a transgender woman, is voiced by trans woman Felicia Bonée.
    • Raisin Cane, who is non-binary, is voiced by the nonbinary Justin Saint.
  • Referenced by...: Knock at the Cabin has the episode "It's My Purr-ty" from Berry in the Big City playing in the background when Eric and Andrew are recovering from being knocked out, the strangers having turned the program on to calm down Wen.
  • Refitted for Sequel: The concept designs for Strawberry Shortcake, Lime Chiffon, and Blueberry Muffin from the scrapped 2017 reboot were reused for Berry in the Big City, remaining mostly the same with slight differences in their outfits, such as the addition of a jean jacket and longer hair for Strawberry. The Purple Pieman and Plum Pudding’s character designs are likewise reused, but with no visible alterations.
  • Role Reprise: Andrea Libman returns to voice Lemon Meringue in Berry in the Big City, having previously voiced her in Berry Bitty Adventures, making her the first Strawberry Shortcake voice actor to reprise their role as a character in two separate series.
  • Trolling Creator: Michael Vogel, executive producer of Berry in the Big City, is not above this from time to time.
  • Unspecified Role Credit: The Girl's Tales podcast stories didn't specify who voiced the characters, only listing the actors who were in the episode. However, Rebecca Cunningham, the producer of Girl's Tales, did clarify the voice roles upon contacting her.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The 2017 reboot wasn't that well received, to put it mildly. Announced in 2016, the reboot was to feature redesigned characters rendered in CGI as with the 2009 series, but the promotional renders put off a lot of fans, with some comparing the character designs unfavourably with Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph. Likely as a result of this, WildBrain retooled the series in favour of a 2D animated incarnation, even going so far as to purge most if not all traces of the failed reboot from their official literature.
    • Johnnycake Cobbler was not originally planned as a character, as Michael Vogel didn’t want to introduce more new characters in Season 1. However, the instant Shannon McClung pitched the character he was quickly introduced into the series.
    • According to Michael Vogel, Peach Blush was planned to reappear in the series, but for unknown reasons she was never introduced.
  • Word of Gay: As Raisin Cane's pronouns are not actually mentioned in Berry in the Big City, their voice actor, Justin Saint, ended up confirming Raisin was nonbinary on their Twitter.
