  • Clod, an earth boy that has a Precocious Crush on Ember, tries to impress her (and later another fire girl closer to his age) by painfully pulling flowers that he’s grown off his body, which would be akin to pulling off chest or armpit hairs. Ember always ends up intentionally burning the flower as she has no interest in the boy.
  • Bernie advises Ember to "take breath, make connection" when dealing with customers, but it's hard to blame her for having problems when the customers would be right at home on Not Always Right.
    • Ember dealing with a customer who doesn't get the concept of "buy one, get one free", as he keeps insisting on getting the free one without having to buy one first.
    • Later, during the Red Dot sale, another customer thinks the red dot stickers are what's on sale.
    • Yet another carelessly sweeps an entire row of fragile ceramic plant pots into her cart.
  • Wade stands up in Bernie's flooding basement, giving him a muscular appearance. An impressed Ember says a soft "Dang", but then Wade complains about being "squished out of shape". Wade shakes himself, and he gets reverted to his normal pudgy frame.
  • Ember trying to get Wade to be quiet by shoving Fern Grouchwood's nameplate in his face. It gets stuck in such a way that "Grouch" gets magnified by the water in Wade's face.
  • After Ember's temper completely torches all the plants in Fern's office, Fern's response is a completely deadpan "Looks like I'm going home early today."
  • Wade walking past a sleeping Ember and his satchel bag catches fire, causing him to frantically put it out and then stamping on Ember to put the fire out. Then we get this gem:
    Wade: You're so hot!
    Ember: (deeply offended) Excuse me?!
Wade: ("Oh, Crap!" Face) No! I mean, like, you're smoking! No! I didn't mean it like that...
    Ember: Are you done yet?
    Wade: (sweating) Yes please!
  • At the airball game, Gale yells at the referee, saying that his eyes are on the back of his head. The ref's eyes then move to the back of his head to deliver a Death Glare.
    • After the game, Wade buys Ember a Styrofoam hat, failing to consider how it will react to her heat. Cut to a Distant Reaction Shot of it exploding, then back to Wade covered in soot.
      • In the background, you can see a water person propose to an earth person, but their moment is interrupted by the explosion.
  • The construction crew are mad at Wade for accidentally spilling concrete dust on some workers, leaving them encased in cement. All five just angrily glare at him.
Wade: I guess you can say they still have HARD feelings... because they're not gonna help us.
  • Bernie catches Wade in his basement. Wade tries to hide his inspector badge, but the word "inspector" gets magnified twice by his watery arms.
  • Wade and Ember try to convince Bernie that Wade is a food inspector, rather than a building inspector. Bernie isn't buying it, and decides to test Wade's story by giving him a dish to "inspect": a plate of burning hot coals.
    • Poor Wade tries to weasel his way out of eating the coals, but when Bernie insists, Wade fearfully tries one and the buildup of steam in his body causes his head to inflate like a balloon, followed by him burping a bubble that screams.
    • Then, when Wade thinks the ordeal is over, Bernie gives him bigger, even hotter coals to try. Wade gamely downs three of them in one bite, and the ensuing heat causes him to explode!
Bernie: (smugly) So, did we pass?
Wade: (nearly a puddle on the ground and with a ravaged voice) Mmm hmm. A+...
    • Wade takes a cup and scoops up some of the coals and waters it down, despite Ember's silent objections. Bernie doesn't take this very well, especially when he hears the word "water".
Wade: See? It's really tasty if you water it down a little.
Bernie: (angrily) Water it down?! WATER US DOWN?!
  • When Wade takes Ember to meet his family, he puts Ember on a floating chair so she doesn't touch the water. Wade's nephews, upon seeing Ember, attempt to shake her off the chair for fun, much to their father's embarrassment.
Marco: (excited) Do you DIE if you fall in water?
[They shake the chair Ember's balancing on, and Alan nervously shoos them away]
Alan: Marco! Kids! (whispering; to Ember) Don't... hate us.
  • Wade is afraid of sponges, owing to a childhood accident involving one. Specifically, he gets sucked into a sponge after one fingertip comes in contact.
    • The flashback to Wade getting stuck inside the sponge. Child Wade's panicked little yelp as he gets absorbed is priceless.
    • When everyone, except for Wade of course, laughs, the look on Wade's face is priceless.
Brook: (laughing) I still can't use a sponge around him!
Wade: I was stuck in there for hours!
  • Uncle Harold's way of complimenting Ember.
  • Wade and his relatives playing the "Crying Game", which is pretty much what it sounds like: the family take turns trying to make each other cry with various stories. Unsurprisingly, most of them barely last two seconds before the Ocular Gushers come out.
Wade: [holding a timer] You have one minute. Go!
    Uncle Harold: 1979. November. You-
Brook: (immediately sobbing) Waahahaa! I never got the chance to say goodbye to Nana! Darn, you're good!
  • Cinder versus the doorman of Wade's building. By the time Ember's evening with Wade is over, they're still fighting, the poor doorman practically melting while Cinder has to stumble off before she vomits.
  • During the date montage, Ember and Wade enter a photo booth, which is humorous on its own, but when the pictures are printed, the light from Ember, given that she's fire, washes out the shot, with only their eyes being able to be seen. The faces on the two are priceless when they observe their failed pictures.
  • After Cinder does the love reading on Ember and Wade, Bernie's voice is heard and Cinder and Ember have Wade leave.
Wade: (About him and Ember's love reading) Wait! Are we a match?
[Cinder and Ember close the door, accidentally getting Wade's hand in the door in the process.]
    Wade: Ow!
Bernie: [comes in] What's going on? I heard noise and nobody upstairs.
[Cinder and Ember get Wade's hand out of the door.]
  • When Cinder and Ember try to cover up, we get this gem:
Cinder: We were talking about this door! Oh, we never talk about this door a lot.
Ember: (angrily whispering) Pull it together!
  • When Ember and Wade approach the rundown Garden Central Station, they're met with a chain link fence blocking their way. Wade just phases his way through it while Ember melts through it.
Wade: Why do they even have these?
    Ember: Eh, who knows?
  • Wade shows up to Bernie's retirement party
    Bernie: Who is that guy?
    Cinder: No idea.
  • Wade gives Ember an Anguished Declaration of Love.
  • While the context of the scene is mostly a tearjearker, Wade's uncle giving him a self-portrait of himself weeping as he's preparing to leave the city forever is oddly hilarious.
  • Bernie awkwardly averting his eyes when Ember and Wade share their Big Damn Kiss.
  • When Wade and Ember are about to leave for Ember's internship.
(Wade and his mother are crying)
Bernie: (To Ember about Wade) You sure about this one?
    Ember: (Smiling) I'm sure.
  • The end credits showing Bernie and Cinder hanging out with the Ripples and getting weirded out by their emotional reactions, followed by them all trying the hot coals and reacting just as Wade did. Another bit shows Bernie and Cinder at a cloudball game and spraying Gale and Fern away from the kiss cam so she and Bernie can have their moment.
