WMG / Elemental (2023)

Go To

Ember and the other fire elementals will be hated by the other inhabitants of Element City.
In the teaser, not only is Ember the only fire elemental aboard the train, but you can see the other passengers either ignore her, or view her with distrust and hatred. This seems to indicate that fire elementals are relative newcomers to Element City, and are seen as strange and dangerous.

Similarly, it could be the all the elementals are really close to their own type of element
We never see the elementals really interact with others aside from their own element. So, it's possible that the elementals in Element City stick to their own "element" and at best, treat the other elements with indifference or much worse (with a few exceptions).

The elementals are a Non-Heteronormative Society
As long as they're the same element, two elementals of the same gender could be together as partners without issue.
  • Partially Confirmed. Wade’s sister has a girlfriend (who is also a water elemental) but his family are largely accepting of him dating Ember. Apart from Wade's nephew getting way too out of hand with trying to see if water really does kill fire, his mom and uncle only make accidentally-insensitive comments at worst.
Despite Memetic Mutation, the film will not go the way people expect/guess it
  • There will be no Third-Act Misunderstanding.
  • The Fires won't be subject to discrimination and are accommodated well.
    • The new trailer shows other Fire People walk around Element City, and they seem to get along with everyone else just fine. But there does seem to be some discrimination, as Ember's parents tell her "Elements don't mix!". It sounds like other elements are okay with being friends to others, just not lovers.
  • Ember and Wade are not the movie's actual protagonists.
    • Alternatively, Ember and Wade will agree to be Just Friends sometime near the end, and date other people.
  • If there is discrimination, it won't end with fires being in a better situation then before.
    • Alternately, there's discrimination but it's not limited to just fires but rather each elemental group has areas, ways or situations that they are deprived of some kind of social need; this could even use the flashback scene where Wade is sucked up by and then trapped in a sponge as foreshadowing should that scene appear before The Reveal that no elemental is immune to being treated unfairly just because other people can, seeing as that's almost certainly a kind of child endangerment if it's a routine occurrence that's happened to multiple water kids instead of a simple fluke that happened to hit Wade.
      • Perhaps that incident motivated Wade to become a safety inspector.
  • One of the movie's antagonists will be Ember's clingy ex-boyfriend or girlfriend.
  • Rather than being a theme of overcoming social and physical barriers to a romantic relationship, the film will more be about one branching out of their comfort zones to experience different parts of life, with could include romance.
  • Jossed. the film is as predictable as many expected. There are no antagonists either.

This will be Pixar's first PG-13 rated movie.
Since this is a love story there will be more sexual scenes and references. If Turning Red can mention periods and "stripper music", that shows that Pixar has no issue with racy subject matter.
  • First of all, periods aren't racy subject matter (mature subject matter maybe) and the word "period" is never actually mentioned in Turning Red, it's only referenced. Second, if an upcoming Pixar movie gets PG-13 for mature subject matter I'd bet on it being Inside Out 2 since Inside Out (which was PG) teased a sequel that gets into puberty.
  • Sadly jossed

Possible Villains
There are possibilities on who may become the Big Bad of the film.

  • A person who plans on taking over Elemental City.
  • In this concept art, it looks like Ember will be going head on with this evil-looking Air person. The new posters reveal this character's name is Gale. Perhaps this Gale will have huge distain of the ideas of elements mixing (especially Fire with any other element) and do all she might to destroy the two protagonists' relationship.
  • An ex of either Wade or Ember.
  • Fern Grouchwood. Him being a bureaucrat is already a sign of him being an antagonist. So hopefully instead of being just an antagonist who just changes and is Easily Forgiven in the end like how so many recent movies have insisted on, he should be a true straight-up Big Bad who wants to rule the city by keeping the "Elements Don't Mix" way of life alive. That makes Wade and Ember bonding a threat and he will do all that he can in his power to fool the people to be against them in order to destroy their relationship.
    • All of these are Jossed. There are no antagonists.

Ember and Wade will date
Since the two have shown to be more than happy when they first met, it is likely that they will be dating in the film.
  • Confirmed, especially in the scene where Lauv's Steal the Show plays.

In the end of the movie, Ember will move in to Element City with Wade for good to find her own dream
  • Jossed. Both Wade and Ember leave Elemental City and their parents at the end for the latter's glassmaking intership.

Over the course of the movie, we will get more depth to why the elements are adamant on not mixing.
This will likely involve some sort of conflict that Ember's parents' generation may have been children during, leading to her mother's declaration that "Elements don't mix" and suspicion of Wade's motives despite him clearly being polite, kind and friendly to everyone he encounters in Fire Town.
  • This may even come with The Reveal that Fire Town is actually fairly new, having only really been settled in the aftermath of the conflict and there being other similar settlements for the other three elements; Element City would be revealed to have been founded to combat this division.
  • Partially Confirmed. There is an explanation as to why fire and water don't mix but it's implied that water, earth and air get along better due to the city's history of water elementals welcoming the latter two groups. It is confirmed that Fire elementals are also indeed newcomers as the most recent wave of immigrants but the cause wasn't from conflict. The reason why Embers' parents have a disdain for water was because of a disastrous storm that struck their homeland and also prejudice received upon arriving to Element City.

Ember will be subject to Pixar's first female nude scene
  • Wade got one when he threw his shirt in the air in the trailer, so Ember will probably have one, too. Thankfully, being made of fire, she won't have genitals, so it will be perfectly family friendly.

  • Jossed.

Idina Menzel will have a vocal cameo as an Ice Elemental
  • Perhaps, if there were more elements than Water, Earth, Fire and Air, there could be an Ice Elemental who references Frozen.
    • Then again, ice IS frozen water...

  • Jossed,

Wade and Ember will find a way to have kids.
  • They'll either be made of steam or fog.
  • And that's where air elementals come from!

The film will have a joke about how Ember Never Gets Drunk.
  • Because fire burns alcohol, and Pixar loves to exploit the full comedic potential of their films' premises, I think this is almost a given.
    • Very unfortunately jossed.

Sequel predictions

If the movie gets a sequel, here are some predictions:

  • As the WMG above predicts, Ember and Wade will have a child made of steam/fog.
    • Said child will experience the trials and tribulations that come with being essentially an air elemental (such as almost accidentally snuffing out Ember trying to blow candles on their birthday cake) and will also fall in love with an earth elemental.
    • Alternatively, the steam baby could struggle to find their footing among both fire and water, and could find acceptance among the air elementals.
  • Other elements that are mixed couples will also have children, creating new elements. Wind/Fire couples will have children made of smoke/electricity, Earth/Fire couple will have children made of rock/magma, and Wind/Water couples will have children made of ice/snow.
    • So.. what would that make the children Earth/Wind and Earth/Water couples?
    • Earth and Water, probably a swamp-like child, a mix of the floral aspects of Earth and fluidity of water. Earth and wind could make a sand storm child, who instead of being fluffy like the Wind Elemental, is grittier.
    • This reminds me of Doodle God where the four original elements are combined to make everything. According to that game, maybe Ember and Wade would have an alcohol baby together.
      • As stated above, fire burns alcohol, so hopefully not.
  • Ember will be shown opening up a successful glass-blowing business in her town.
  • There will be a villain.
  • It will focus on a different two protagonists, they will be Earth and Air.

Water people greatly enjoy soap operas.
Besides the pun, they're also known for being melodramatic and heartstring-tugging.

Cinder will offer incense readings to other elementals dating fire
We've seen Wade (a water elemental) ignite his candle by reflecting the light from Ember's flame. How would other element-fire couples do this? An air elemental would create fire from lightning, while an earth elemental would use a twig or leaf to transfer their partner's flame to their candle.
  • Or they could rub two sticks together.
