The film will have a Liar Revealed plot
Elio would reveal himself not to be the ambassador of Earth near the second act. There'll be a shout-out to E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
- Possibly in the form of Elio trying to phone home from the Communiverse. Well, we did see in the trailer that he brought his phone with him, didn't we? Failing that, Elio being lost in the woods before his abduction, or Olga and her team of fellow military scientists could also be shout-outs.
Stitch will make a cameo
The reason Elio has an eyepatch on is...
- He recently had cataract surgery
- He has very noticeably lazy eye
- His eye was injured in some way while camping with other scouts
- He contracted pink eye from the outhouse.
- He is was born blind in one eye.
- He needed to have his eye removed entirely as a baby and is covering up the scars.
The film will have a villain of some kind
Likely in the form of an alien leader who doesn't want Elio around or one of his mother's military superiors who hinders her attempts to get Elio back. Elio's eyepatch will become important to the plot
- At some point he will reveal to one of the aliens that he was born with or developed a completely dead eye, thus why he wears it all the time. Furthermore, the aliens will then offer to use their advanced medical technology to heal his eye, and during the climax Elio will approach the military in defense of the aliens, and his mother will notice he has two working eyes and realize he's right about the aliens being benevolent.
The Communiverse will eventually offer a spot to Elio as Earth's representative, even after the likely Liar Revealed moment.
Accepting this offer will be the harsh choice that Elio will face halfway through the movie. Questa and/or Grigon may have already knew that Elio wasn't the ambassador of Earth all along but kept it as a secret.
Although, Elio lied about being Earth's ambassador and that the Communiverse believed his lie, it won't be too farfetched to see Questa and/or Grigon see through his lie. However, seeing that Elio is the closest thing to coming into contact with Earth, they or one of them decide to play along. If things get out of hand, one of them could reveal to Elio that they already knew he wasn't the Ambassador of Earth.
