Fridge Brilliance

  • Bacon Lettuce Moms seems to be quite a random name for an erotic terrorist organization when compared to names like Advancement ASSembly, Absolute Hemlines, and The Mammals. But when you factor in the initials B.L, it stands for "Boys' Love". The Fujoshi nature of Bacon Lettuce Moms are further proven with their Yaoi magazines inspiring the girls to pair up Okuma x Gouriki.
    • In the same vein, Ayame's alias Blue Snow sounds quite incongruous and tame for an ero-terrorist of her magnitude, but the initials spell B.S, a.k.a. bullsh*t.
      • "Blue" is also a term used to mean lewd and Ayame makes it "snow" lewd images as Blue Snow.
  • The ending credit songs attribute some brilliant wordplay and anagrams as it describes the show:
    • "Yokusei" no naka ni wa "Seiyoku" ga sonde iru." Translation
    • "Kisei" no naka ni wa "Seiki" ga kakurete iru." Translation
    • Watashi, perorisuto! Translation
  • It's already been noted that the top of Kosuri's head looks like the tip of a penis. Now, knowing that she manipulated another student council by creating a "love scandal", it is safe to assume that she's a bit of a dick...
  • Making Sophia Nishikinomiya part-Caucasian with white hair basically turns her into an anime take on the Blonde Republican Sex Kitten.
    • Further her name itself is quite clever. While Sophia does mean wisdom, it's also one of the names of Athena who among other things is famous for being a Virgin Goddess.
  • Why is it that Saotome's erotic drawing style resembles manga artwork from the Late 60's - Early 70's? When you think about it, Saotome's art style is undergoing a "Renaissance" period thanks to her inspiration from real life lewdness. Plus, her voice and manner of speech sound quite similar to an elderly Japanese woman that lived through that time era.
  • According to Ayame, her story of her Disappeared Dad has him being framed with the crime of molesting a young girl. Why do that when just about anything sex-related would have worked with the laws that were in place? The reason is pretty obvious as the accusation of pedophilia is likely just as damning in-universe as it is in the real world. Even if acquitted his reputation would never really recover, much like how Michael Jackson's never really did after he was accused and then acquitted of such.
  • Anna's antics would seem to be ripe material to use against the draconian anti-lewdness laws her parents have helped bring into existence as concrete proof they not only do not work but will potentially cause the downfall of Japan in the future. So why don't Ayane and Tanukichi turn her in to exploit this? Because to do so would go against SOX's creed. They want to end the laws but they don't want to ruin peoples' lives to do so and to do such a thing would utterly ruin Anna and her parents' lives on top of betraying the genuine trust Anna has in Ayane and Tanukichi.
  • Why is Ayame embarrassed wearing black underwear around Tanukichi? Two reasons: The first is the implications wearing black underwear entails towards the opposite gender. The second reason is despite her costume as Blue Snow being a sheet, it still covered most of her body, making her feel uncomfortable with so much of her on display.
  • The changing room scene in episode 12 shows Oboro can still easily be mistaken for a girl, by having him strip down in front of Bikan-chan without her realizing Oboro was a guy. But episode 8 shows that not even Hyouka can tell the difference, despite speaking to Oboro while under his desk. Meaning, she was face level with his junk and still thought she was speaking to another girl!
    • That last part is especially impressive given that Hyouka is the most observant character in the series. She was able to see through Kosuri's 'cute little girl' act at a glance before dissecting it. Episode 10 showed she could deduce whether a gun was real or fake simply from observing how the gunman was holding it. Yet, not even she could tell Oboro was a guy which further proves he really does 'Look Like a Lady' - even under scrutiny, or while stark naked.

Fridge Horror

  • From what it looks, outside of the lewd jokes, this series actually commentates on what happens in a society when people can't express or understand sexual desire. Case in point: Anna almost raping Tanukichi.
    • Anna's stalkers were also a good example. If you don't have an understanding of your desire, what separates you from the animals?
  • This also raises another question, in a society like that, imagine how many attempted or actual cases of rape would occur.
  • There is also the fact that in real-life, Japan already has a really low birth rate. Add a law preventing the current generation from knowing how to reproduce, let alone how to express their love, and it wouldn't be surprising if there wasn't much of a next generation to be spoken of.
    • Also: Japan, despite the massive amounts of pornography it produces (some of which is so extreme that it is illegal in many countries), has some remarkably draconian obscenity laws. Many Hentai publishers, over time, tentatively push the limits of the law and explore ways of getting around it, but every few years there seems to be yet another public outcry and the censorship in magazines and so forth gets worse all over again.
  • In this series, the most information that students gets about sex ed is 'when a man and woman love each other purely a baby happens,' ostensibly to keep their students safe. However, in the real world, it's been proven that abstinence-only education (which, unlike education in the Shimoneta world, at least acknowledges that sex exists) leads to much higher rates of unsafe sex and teen pregnancies. How high must Japan's STD rates be? (Especially considering that nobody will willingly admit to having one.)
    • It's a bit different though, since the PM's detect a lot of things down to even drawing lewd things. Unless they find a loophole it's pretty much impossible to do.
      • The PM can't detect everything, and considering they're only hooked up to the throat and wrists (for now) rape is still incredibly possible. Otherwise, the Decency Squad would have dragged Anna away as early as episode 4 for her sexual assault. Also, who's going to admit to having an STI even to a doctor in this world? The current PM models don't stop you having sex, so you can still transmit infections you won't admit to or possibly even know exist.
  • Why would groups like Gathered Fabric not fight for removal of draconian laws the instead just working for their own gains under the cover of being against the laws? Because their leaders realize the laws will make future generations clueless and helpless easy targets, eventually removing the need to be overt once the masses are clueless enough to be unable to spot more discreet actions.
  • There is also the case of Gouriki almost being framed for sexual harassment in the first episode with the accuser intending to get money out of it. Whats to say that this is something normal that happens. What's even worse is that people don't even seem to care that an innocent person is being accused of something that everyone would already know is wrong.

Fridge Logic

  • So, the new PM models appear to be chastity belts. It's bad enough that the wrist and neck PM are so restrictive. So how are the proposed PM/chastity belts supposed to let the people wearing them go to the bathroom?
    • Didn't real life chastity belts in medieval times allow for that?
    • Well, they were arrangements of straps with holes in appropriate places. The ones in the show appear to be solid, much like a pair of underwear or a swimsuit bottom. And even if they did have holes, there would still be issues of general grime and sweat buildup. Plus, assuming that the female model covers the vagina, then there would be no way to insert a tampon, and if the PM cannot be removed then there'd be no way to place a pad when necessary.
  • Why were some of the Decency Squad going commando? Because anything down there is a banned discussion topic. There's no reason that they need underwear, because no-one's allowed to look, they aren't really allowed to say even if they were so inclined, so no-one should know anyway.
    • Could also be a throwback to pre-World War 2 Japan, where underwear wasn't really worn. Underwear that wasn't Fundoshi had a bit of a stigma as being only worn by prostitutes back when.
  • The PM can detect obscene drawings, but seems to completely ignore obscene gestures.
    • The chastity belt version wouldn't.
  • Oddly enough, classes are still mixed gender.
  • Any foreign dignitary that sets foot in the country would be a political time bomb waiting to happen. Most western diplomats would sooner walk back into their plane than consent to wearing a Peace Maker. And it's likely that someone on their staff will innocently browse porn on their free time and either get caught by a nearby Peace Maker or an overreactive official. Diplomatic immunity would likely get invoked, but then the world press would smell blood in the water, and eventually a reporter would be clever enough to find SOX and expose everything to light, opening Japan to some serious sanctions over human rights violations. This could even be why we haven't seen any foreign nationals yet: the writers may not want, or worse, know how to deal with such a deep can of worms.
    • There's supposedly an anti-obscenity taskforce that's attempting to push the same draconian anti-obscenity laws as in Japan, which indicates that people are aware of the state of Japan, and don't particularly care, though there is a ray of hope since the fact that they're still pushing the laws indicates that they've yet to succeed in making it happen to a significant portion of the world.
  • The anti-obscenity laws are so restrictive that the current generation don't know how to reproduce. How the hell did Sophia Nishikinomiya think it was a good idea to pass laws that could lead to the death of the Japanese people?
    • Especially with how low the birthrate and how high the suicide rate in Japan is to begin with.
    • There's a chillingly simple explanation: she or whoever is controlling her is a senior member of the Human Extinction Movement, and they've elected to move on from voluntary measures onto active subterfuge and manipulation to erase the "virus that is mankind" from the world and "prevent undue suffering to man and animal alike".
    • It's also possible that she's not considering that. After all, she and her husband's primary concern is their daughter's chastity. Why would parents like that be worried about other people?
