Darth Wiki / Odd Squad Spherical Madness

Go To

Odd Squad: Spherical Madness is the first video game entry in the Odd Squad franchise, created by Serendipity under her production company, Fluffy Peach Productions.

While on an adventure in the Odd Side, a place where oddness roams free, Oprah, known by her title of "Ms. O", has a vision of something rather horrifying — her, along with Olive, Otto and Oscar, trapped in tanks and hooked up to wire after wire. The People Jars, however, line the platform holding the throne where none other than the ruler of the Odd Side sits. Said ruler is, of course, none other than Odd Todd, Odd Squad's most dangerous and most persistent Big Bad who has been empowered by the oddness that surrounds him.

After telling her coworkers about the vision, Oscar, realizing the path to Odd Todd is an expansive and logistically complicated labyrinth, comes up with and invents an ingenious solution: spherical balls, made so getting around isn't so much of a hassle. The balls have quite the interesting capabilities, allowing those inside to curl up into balls and move at speeds regular humans are unable to achieve and weaponize the balls for use against enemies, among other features. Seeing this as a golden opportunity, Oprah hops right into a spherical yellow ball and heads straight for the labyrinth's entrance, with Olive, Otto and Oscar following suit in their own respective blue, red and green balls.

The game has had a few DLC updates over the years:

  • "Season 2" adds main characters from Season 2 of Odd Squad, including Olympia, Otis and Oona. Each come with their own special power.
  • "Season 3" adds main characters from Season 3 of Odd Squad, including Opal, Omar, Orla and Oswald. A later patch added Orpita (as the Little O), Osmerelda Kim, and Oprah (as the Big O) to the game, as well as special powers for all characters.
  • "Season 4" will add main characters from Odd Squad UK, including Orli and Ozzie, Captain O, Onom and Orwell, with more characters to follow. It will also add flying and gliding capabilities to all characters.

It is inspired by Super Monkey Ball, but has a few twists — namely, the option to pair up with another character, which can create unique combos of powers that can cause shortcuts to reveal themselves or destroy large swaths of obstacles. There are also over thirty minigames that can be unlocked and played.

Players

    Oprah (Ms. O)

"Oy, what I would kill for a good juice box...and a vacation."

Voiced by: Millie Davis

The de facto leader of the group, who has a tendency to rush into levels unprepared.

Otto: That cucumber-looking thing knocked me through the floor. In what world does anything in this maze knock me through the floor?!//
Oprah: The one where you're at the very top of the bell curve and about to fall off?//Otto: Okay, well, I'll pretend I didn't hear that sarcasm.
  • The Leader: Of Precinct 13579.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: In every single trailer released for the game and its DLC, she's shown rushing past Olive, Otto and Oscar into the next set of levels.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Her increased strength allows her to take out barriers and obstacles by simply rolling into them, and deliver increased damage to enemies. Her special power, All-Out Assault, even has her unleashing a slew of hits against a target, which can deal massive damage or destroy obstacles.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: All-Out Assault, her special power, takes the form of this.
  • Yellow/Purple Contrast: Oprah wears a fair bit of purple when outside of her yellow ball, but her outfit changes to yellow as a theme color when inside. While Purple Is Powerful, yellow is more associated with happiness, and Oprah's not an agent to crack much of a smile.

    Olive

"There has to be a strategy to this one."

Voiced by: Dalila Bela

An Odd Squad Director and Otto's partner, who relies on strategy to get through levels.

  • Blue Is Heroic: Her ball, as well as both of her outfits in and out of her ball, are blue. She's also one of the main protagonists of the game.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: When paired up with Oscar, Otto, Otis, or Omar, she is significantly shorter.
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She loves any and all sports, something that reflects in both her athleticism and her special power.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Not to the extent of those like Oprah, but she's pretty powerful in battle. Her special power, Chance Athletica, allows her to wield different sports equipment as weapons, determined by a wheel that is spun when the power is activated.

    Otto

"Hey, is that a sandwich up there on the next floor?!"

Voiced by: Filip Geljo

An Odd Squad Director and Olive's partner, who is often easily distracted by food.

  • Big Eater: When selecting him as a character, he's always shown with a sandwich in his mouth. Pair him with Omar, and the Boss Subtitle becomes "The Cosmic Appetite Duo".
  • Cloudcuckoolander: He's pretty eccentric, and as such he is the most prone to getting corrupted by the Odd Side, something that Olive desperately tries to avoid in the game's Story Mode.
  • Red Is Heroic: His ball is red, and he is one of the main protagonists of the game.

    Olympia

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Physics: Fitting for an Odd Squad franchise entry, physics is more of a construct than anything else.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The first four main characters have their balls' colors modeled after Shout Outs or theme colors. The same applies to their clothes as well, when they're in the balls.
    • Olive's ball is blue, befitting her theme color in the Odd Squad episode "Swamps N' Gators" as Player 2.
    • Otto's ball is red, befitting his theme color in the Odd Squad episode "Swamps N' Gators" as Player 1.
    • Oscar's ball is green, correlating to the Science department's theme color being green.
    • Oprah's ball is yellow, because according to Word of God, "yellow represents sunshine and happiness...the two things Oprah is not".
  • Evil Counterpart: The agents in Oprah's vision that are in statis are the evil counterparts of her, Olive, Otto and Oscar, crafted by Odd Todd to destroy Odd Squad. He later tries again with extra copies of them, as well as making evil counterparts for other main characters that they must defeat. Each evil counterpart is the antithesis of the good counterpart's personality.
    • Olive is normally a Little Miss Badass who is serious and uptight. Her evil counterpart is overly nice to sickeningly-sweet levels.
    • Oprah is normally a Pintsized Powerhouse who takes no guff. Her evil counterpart is a Shrinking Violet who is often seen hiding behind Olive, Otto or Oscar. The same also holds true for the Big O, though she is less of a Shrinking Violet and more of a Cowardly Lion.
    • Otto is normally a Cloudcuckoolander who prioritizes fun over work. His evil counterpart is a Workaholic who is masterful in efficiency.
    • Oscar is normally a Genius Ditz who is skilled in gadgetry. His evil counterpart is Too Dumb to Live.
    • Olympia is normally a Genki Girl who is an extreme Workaholic. Her evil counterpart is a Lazy Bum who barely has any energy.
    • Otis is normally an agent who has No Social Skills. His evil counterpart is a pure Keet.
    • Oona is, like Oscar, normally a Genius Ditz. Her evil counterpart is a Blood Knight who is Cute But Psycho and wants to kill everything in sight.
    • Opal is normally a Competition Freak who lives for adventure. Her evil counterpart is, much like Olympia, a Lazy Bum who would rather stay in Odd Todd's throne room than go out anywhere.
    • Omar is normally a Pollyanna who looks on the bright side of things. His evil counterpart is incredibly cynical and negative.
    • Oswald is normally The Smart Guy who relies on books for knowledge. His evil counterpart is still very much a bookworm, but relies on existing knowledge of his enemies to beat them.
    • Orla is normally a Pintsized Powerhouse who is a Fish out of Temporal Water. Her evil counterpart is, much like Oona, a Blood Knight, who is the most skilled in combat among the other evil counterparts.
    • Osmerelda Kim is normally a Renaissance Man. Her evil counterpart is essentially a Joke Character who is the weakest of the evil counterparts.
    • Orpita is normally a laid-back and relaxed agent with no regard for rules. Her evil counterpart is a Rules Lawyer and quite the Obstructive Bureaucrat who tries to keep the other evil counterparts in line.
  • The Power of Friendship: The game encourages players to team up in order to solve the levels.
