Gerry Anderson MBE (born Gerald Alexander Abrahams; 14 April 1929 – 26 December 2012) was an English film and TV producer, director, writer, photographer and occasional voice artist.

He is best known for a number of marionette sci-fi and adventure series using Supermarionation, such as Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Thunderbirds, as well as live-action series such as UFO and Space: 1999.

Anderson collaborated with his second wife, Sylvia Anderson (whom he married in 1960), on a number of shows, with Sylvia providing voices for characters in many of his Supermarionation series (most famously voicing Lady Penelope on Thunderbirds), and the couple being co-producers on UFO and Space: 1999. Their collaborations ended when their marriage broke down during the filming of Space: 1999 in 1975.

Tropes associated with Anderson's works:

  • Crystal Clear Picture: Averted in both UFO (1970) and Space: 1999, where most of the video monitors (even hand-held ones) are real, though the images are in black and white because the production hadn't yet figured out how to synchronize colour monitors to 35mm film cameras. However, the main Moonbase Alpha viewscreen on Space: 1999 uses matted-in images, which are therefore in colour.
