openWeb Original Literature
I noticed there seems to be a bit of an inconsistency over whether internet-based written projects go in the Literature or Web Original namespace.
For instance, when I created the Nightmare Beings page, I put it under Literature, but I noticed that Serina is under Web Original.
openIs there a way to see who has shared an avatar with you?
What the title says. Asking because an avatar I didn’t upload or ask for appeared in my gallery and I wanna know where it came from...
Edited by SynchronicityopenUnilateral YMMV Move
So today I noticed that One Mario Limit was removed from Tropes Needing TRS because the cited issue, it not being YMMV, was false. Now, that seemed fishy to me. I had very clear memory of it being a mainspace trope, but there it was under YMMV. So I did some digging and found that it was added in March of this year. The kicker?
Here's the ATT thread that got OML added to the sandbox. The thread happened days before the YMMV move, and it was added by the same troper who started the query, Lemonade Bacon.
I have no idea if the trope got added to YMMV pages as a result or if people didn't even notice, because none of us did for the past 7 months, but yeah.
openA vandalized page Videogame
A Doki Doki Exit Music page (and it's subcategories) has been vandalized 4 days ago. While it is easy to restore the content, it is possible that whoever did this will strike again anytime soon.
Edited by DukeNukem4everopenIP forum notice without linking the forum
How come Atomic F-Bomb has an Image Pickin notice without linking the actual IP thread? Is that just the old-fashioned way of doing it or an oversight?
openRemoved justified? Videogame
A Haunted Mind removed the Values Dissonance regarding the magypsies off the Mother 3 YMMV page. He's justifying it by saying since they're neither boys nor girls, they can't be seen as offensive to the LGBTQ+ community.
All I know is that the magypsies are the most commonly cited reason for why Mother 3 never got an English release, and I have heard some cry foul over certain scenes involving them in the game. (The most infamous being Lucas (a young boy) in a hot tub with one of them as the screen fades to black when they teach them PSI in a very unflattering way.)
In my mind, the magypsies definitely seems like a cause of Values Dissonance based on the above factors. Rather than get in an edit war though, I figured I see other tropers opinions about this.
Edited by TokoWHopenneed help making a page for Inhibit Webcomic
I’ve been reading the webcomic Inhibit for a few years now, and just recently found that it didn’t have a page here on TV Tropes. my problem is that, having been reading the comic for a long while, I only really remember the broad strokes of it and recent update details. is there a way for me to find someone else to collaborate on the page with me, to help find the tropes the comic contains?
Edited by audgetroubleopenNo longer Fanon Discontinuity?
YMMV.My Little Pony The Movie 2017
- Fanon Discontinuity: The meh reception even from those who liked it, questionable characterizations and plot developments, seeming disregard for the show's continuity, and failing to do anything meaningful compared to the show has caused many fans to ignore the events of the movie. Despite Word of God that is was canon, fans were very surprised Season 8 of the show confirmed its canonicity by extensively referencing the movie's events. Since it glosses over the events proper, even seemingly at odds like Twilight Sparkle's Hundred Percent Adoration Rating by the hippogriffs despite her attempted theft of their pearl, and simply focuses on the end results like the hippogriffs returning to society, Tempest Shadow having pulled her Heel–Face Turn the occasional reference to Klugetown and the pirates, and the Storm King getting acknowledged in both "What Lies Beneath" and "Spring Breakdown", those inclined can pretend things happened differently. Not helping is that supplementary material relating to the movie seldom agree with each other.
I asked the MLP discussion thread, and it agreed FD is misused as it's about fans ignoring the work and any references to it (no longer the case after it was extensive referenced in the series) or mental replacing the unliked parts or pretending the series ended prior (nowhere near enough fans do this to count in this case), not just not liking it.
The entry was added by a trope with a personal disliked of the work.
Before I cut it, can FD count if it was rejected for a time but became accepted later? Or is it like other YMMV tropes where if it latter events change that it's retroactively not an example (like Moral Event Horizon for a character who unexpected redeemed themselves)? It might be worth keeping in some form if the former.
I asked Is this an example? but was ignored. Any place else I should ask?
openImage Deletion
User piperpaladin deleted the images on Important Hair Accessory, Marshmallow Hell, My Name Is Inigo Montoya, "No. Just… No" Reaction, Fuuma Shuriken, Ojou, and Sexy Jester, with all images being from the same source Mahou Sensei Negima!.
openDo streamers count as Awesome Moments? Videogame
I ask because roughly half of Awesome.Terraria is "X streamer did a speedrun" in a way that seems rather obnoxiously like the fan community wanking each other off.
openIUEO cleanup thread?
Since In-Universe Examples Only requires no special effort except cleanup, should there be a cleanup thread dedicated to IUEO, much like what we've got for No Real Life Examples, Please! and Trivia?
openUnattended IP thread
There is an IP thread for "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot that is not getting attention, which is unusual for Image Pickin'. The concern is that the chosen page image represents incorrect usage of the trope.
openTroping real life
Is it true that on articles for famous people like singers and actors, stuff about their personal life that has little to do with their works (other than the fact that it may have been responsible for their hiatus/absence in the industry) shouldn't be mentioned anywhere in the article, whether it's on tropes or the introduction?
openShould a Real Life examples folder be deleted? Need feedback
This is a follow-up request to this ATT thread I posted a couple days ago. Link.
I've started off by posting a question to the Fact Checking Thread here. At this point, I probably have enough information to cursorily rewrite the bad entry for Mahatma Gandhi if needed. However, in the earlier ATT thread, there seemed to be at least some support for nuking the offending folder entirely. I'm fine with that, but want to get a pretty solid consensus before I consider that route.
The folder is the "Media in General / Common Persons" one at Historical Hero Upgrade. Either several supportive posts from fellow tropers in favor of nuking, or one from a Moderator, would be fine with me. At least I assume that's sufficient backing, anyway.
Many thanks.
openIs Two Worlds really fan fiction?
I noticed that Two Worlds is considered fan fiction, but the description states that the characters are expies of characters from other shows. If the characters are only expies and not from other works, then doesn't it count as original fiction? Things get confusing as the original work seems to have been taken down.
openWhat Makes up an example
I'm confused about some tropes like Teleport Spam and Widget Series with teleport spam flash step users are listed there despite the page saying that falls under Speed Blitz and the Widget Series has The Amazing World of Gumball in it despite that falling under {{What Do You Mean It Wasn't Made On Drugs}}?
So exactly when is the parameters for an example of a trope? like is it trope and related tropes? or trope and variants?

open Question about trope worthiness of specific ethnic fanservice examples
A poster on the TLP has proposed a trope which I have serious reservations about. It’s called Finno-Ugric Fanservice and attempts to lump together Finnish, Estonian, Hungarian, and Mordovian examples of Fanservice, including several real life examples. The real life examples strike me as a problem for starters, and I’m not especially sold on this particular grouping for the reasons the troper is arguing.
There’s a broader question here, though. Part of their rationale is that tropes such as Sensual Slavs and Gorgeous Greeks exist (the latter in fact does not exist). I’m not even sold on the need for these tropes, honestly. Otherwise, we could end up with dozens of Fanservice trope proposals for every country and ethnic group imaginable. I’m not at all a fan of this possibility.
I’m thinking this proposed trope is a non-starter, and that the Sensual Slavs example mentioned above should be reconsidered as well.
Thoughts?
Edited by BoltDMCopen "Deconstruct" -> "Deconstruction"
Troper Harpuia (link to history) has been changing instances of deconstruct to deconstruction in sentences. However, the way they do it is not grammatically correct — you end up with sentences like:
- Reincarnation-Identifying Trait: The tie-in novel, The Rise of Kyoshi deconstructions this trope when it describes the Earth Kingdom method.
- Characters.Attack On Titan Eren Yeager: Not precisely stupid, but lets his emotions get the better of him. Deconstructions the typical shonen examples by showing the realistic consequence of...
Is this deconstruct dewicking...mandated anywhere?
WesternAnimation. The Forge currently has a custom title that appends a "(2019)" to it. I am not sure whether this is against the rules of custom titling, but it also now applies to the unrelated Creator. The Forge title, which is misleading, since the Forge community shut down in 2012. Since I have no idea who initially requested that custom title, I cannot ask them directly, and nobody replied to my query on its talk page in over a week.
What should we do about it? I really don't see a need to disambiguate the title, since there don't seem to be any other major animated series by that title. Can we just somehow undo the custom title?
