Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.

Ask the Tropers:
openMore input desired by me in trope talk thread
So, I asked about the definition of Schoolgirl Lesbians in this trope talk thread, and have come away very confused about where the line between it and "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship is. I'd like more input from tropers knowledgeable about these two tropes to help clarify (and possibly determine if TRS is in order for one or both) in that thread, not here, so all the discussion is in one place.
If I deserve to get yelled at for posting this here, I will take my knocks.
open Where does this Superman example fit?
Issue #4 of The Man of Steel established that Superman shaves by reflecting his heat vision off of a Kryptonian metal◊, with Action Comics #663 elaborating that using anything else would melt said object. When this was adapted for Lois & Clark and Superman: The Animated Series, they just have his heat vision reflect off mirrors without any harm done to them.
Which of the Media Adaptation Tropes fits this change best?
Edited by NESBoyopenIs this actually AmbiguouslyGay / ShipTease or just shipping goggles?
On the Characters.Miraculous Ladybug Heroes page, this was added to Zoe/Vesperia's character folder:
- Ambiguously Gay: Zoé has some interactions with Marinette that could imply that she has a crush on her. Like when she blushed after giving Marinette her phone number and smiling after Marinette texted her. The two are also shown very close in the next episode despite only knowing each other for a few weeks at most. She also acts very nervously around Marinette in a way only seen with characters who canonically have crushes. However, this could also be Zoe simply being timid about have a good friend.
For context, while the show does have LGBT representation (ex. A character that appeared in a single episode was made mainly to be a gay love interest to an established character, two characters from a special were an implied F/F couple, etc.), this description seems very much like a stretch for what has so far (read: Zoé's currently only two episodes) has been a character arc/storyline about Sibling Yin-Yang and The Power of Friendship, seeing as the show just ended a love triangle subplot a few episodes ago and it would be in bad taste to introduce a F/F love interest knowing the show's main M/F tease was confirmed as endgame by Word of God. However, I'm bringing this here for a second opinion.
Edited by CommanderVisoropenTroper doing slash troping and ZCEs
A troper named Wile K 209 has done a few slash trope entries and what look like ZCEs. I sent a notifier about the former several hours ago but have heard nothing back, nor has the problem been fixed. Examples of the former are seen in Leave It to Beaver:
New Sound Album / Rearrange the Song
and Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! S1E7 "Never Ape an Ape Man":
Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping / Suddenly Voiced
The latter is seen in two examples in Collapsing Lair:
- It also happens to the Viridian City gym in "Battle of the Badge," after Togepi sets off one of Team Rocket's explosives.
- Inspector Gadget has occasionally featured this in the first season, usually caused by Gadget's incompetence or clumsiness, most notably in "Sleeping Gas" and "The Coo-Coo Clock Caper."
At least I'm assuming these are ZCEs. Let me know if I'm wrong. If not, I'll send a notifier.
I haven't gone digging extensively, but they do have some edits that look fine as well.
Edited by BoltDMCopenIs there a way to keep track of a troper's edits?
LivingstonTheFish loves to edit Video Game and Quotes pages, and has recently started editing Final Fantasy-related subpages. This behaviour is eerily similar to that of a repeat ban evader called johnnyfog. Thing is, last time I thought someone was their sockpuppet, the person turned out to be completely innocent. The incident has left me hesitant to request for IP checks, since all I did was bother the mods. So, is there any easy way to keep track of a specific troper's edits? I just want to make sure I have decisive evidence before I accuse someone.
openSo Many Spoiler Tags Live Action TV
I’ve been reading the Recap pages for Series.Mr Robot, and from Season 2 onward, there are lots of spoiler tags. The problem is, most of those spoiler tags have to do with events in that particular episode. Is it safe to remove them?
openMajor bloat on Trails Series page
I noticed that sunnyseviper has taken providing details on installments for the Trails Series to a ridiculous level, including such details as the release date for every game for each platform they've been on. It really bloats the page, even if they are in folders. I'd send a notifier, but I'm not sure which one applies here.
openEntry Pimping the Temtem character page Videogame
Today, I've started adding entries for each tem species on Temtem's characters page, on the basis that other Mons Series have these. However, this is a daunting task that I can't do alone. Would it be appropriate for me to organise help with this on the forums, and if so, where?
openProper Namespace for an OELManga Series?
I'd like to create a page for the OEL Manga "Orange Crows", but I'm conflicted over what namespace to put it in; Manga or Comic Books. (Clicking around in the OEL Manga titles section shows that it covers works from both namespaces, which only deepens my confusion.)
On the "Manga" side: the work was generally marketed as a "manga" when the first volume was released in the late 2000's, it was originally published by Tokyopop in their standard 5 in. × 7.5 in. tankobon format, and it draws heavily on manga style.
On the "Comic Book" side: it was written by an American author, it reads from right-to-left, and I can't find evidence that it was ever released outside of the USA. (It appears the author self-published the second volume in a similar tankobon format outside of the Tokyopop imprint.)
I would lean towards putting the work in the Comic Books namespace, but I figured I would pose the question here for propriety's sake. Is there a consensus on these matters that doesn't appear on the OEL Manga page?
Edited by Leporidaeopen Gender-neutral edits to actresses' Creator pages
Hmmm. Not sure if this is a tap on the shoulder or even a problem, but Tropers/carolyn_sawyer is going through on a lot of actresses' pages and changing the word "actress" to actor or female actor. I thought I might bring it to someone's attention for them to decide if it's fine or not. I suppose you could argue "actress" is sexist language and it needed to be changed anyway.
Edited by MegaJopenEdit War
On the page for Relic Of The Future, we've got an Edit War. Helljmpr Rookie added a Curse Escape Clause entry. wingedcatgirl removed it, citing it as misuse. Helljmpr then added it back in, slightly tweaking the wording but missing the point that the trope doesn't apply (and using incorrect spoiler tags while we're at it). There's also edits like this which abuse bold text and have odd spoiler marks, as well as this edit with shoddy grammar and a "can things get any worse...?" attached for no real reason.
openStub troper
This troper has a tendency to make stub pages, add ZCEs and insert pre-commented out examples.
Edited by Shadow8411openCan we recreate Critical Research Failure / Game Theory Web Show Web Original
There have been numerous videos debunking his points and one of Matt Patt's editors has revealed Matt asks them to ignore evidence that would debunk theories. https://youtu.be/EeHzGEgDcig?t=572
As such, I feel it would be warranted to remake this page.
openTroping prerelease episodes of The Owl House Western Animation
Last weekend, The Owl House had a special limited screening of the first two episodes of its second season. Naturally, tropers have taken to the show's pages, despite statements from the host that this is not the official premiere and not to discuss spoilers, and they have been aggresive. On The Owl House S2E1 "Separate Tides" alone, we have TVGUY54, Monolaf 317, Sir_Chaos_Omega, LMS2020, Tiger Wu 98, nsommer659, The Rogue Penguin, Moroaica, Arawn 999, Rezkel, and That ONE Guy With A Name all adding tropes precommented, and then That one guy uncommented everything. Mr Heroes at least recommented everything out, but there's still a lot of rules-skirting.
openCleanup thread question
Although I'm not good at wick-checking for TRS, with regard to cleanup threads like the expy cleanup thread, where should Captain Ersatz Cleanup thread go?
Short-Term or Long-Term Projects - what's the pros and cons for putting it in one or the other?
Someone suggested on the expy cleanup thread it needs a cleanup thread for Captain Ersatz but I'm not sure where it should go, and how often are threads moved anyway?
openTroper gives me attitude over PMs
Troper Osiem-Setny was clearly angry that I sent The Pennyfarthing Effect to the TRS, as he sent me a couple of PMs about it.
It started due to discussion on me cutting one of the examples as misuse, and ended with him sarcastically commenting on how I wanted to trash this trope after changing the image (which I did, trough IP) then just change the whole thing to fit my liking.
It was later followed by another equally-sarcastic DM comparing the situation to the stagnation of the Getting Crap Past the Radar cleanup and how it will never make it past relaunch and will probably just be reverted.
User also told me that he's banned from the forums.
Edited by FernandoLemonopenUsefulNotes debate
I'm debating about whether to make a Useful Notes page regarding ban evasion for other sites an how said sites handle bans, suspensions, and ban evasion.
Should I go for it? Or is there already such a page on the subject?
On YMMV.Genshin Impact (courtesy link here), troper Tropers/GM_3826 added Natter to the Relationship Writing Fumble example and violated Example Indentation in Trope Lists in the process. I fixed the example by removing the bad indentation and merging it with the prior paragraph, but shortly after that, GM_3826 sent me a bloated PM denying that they have ever added Natter. Despite me warning them that it's a bannable offence, they still think adding new information in double bullet points is "ok", so they're not getting the memo of how indentation works.
