The Player

    The Player

The player assumes the role of a teenager in Zadar, that begins their apprentice eve. Being the player's character they can be of any gender, wear any clothes that the player chooses.

  • Action Survivor: Most definitely, their most amazing feat being surviving the Tucma airship crash and then surviving the harsh wastelands and as a fugitive. They also participated in the Kisiwa-Belsoto War as a major figure.
  • Action Girl: If they happen to be female.
  • Badass Normal: They don't have any superpowers or anything, but they are seen being able to accomplish badass feats like rock hopping, rock climbing, or even surfing over acid water.
  • The Beastmaster: Comes naturally as a temtem tamer.
  • Character Customization: The player is fully customizable at the start of the game. They may also purchase accessories and the like from boutiques.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Has a tendency to help whoever they come into contact to. They may lampshade this once in a while.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Dialogue options give the protagonist plenty of opportunities to be snarky.
  • Fight Magnet: Seems to be a prominent part of the temtem universe. Just walking out into some grass will pull you into a fight.
  • Foster Kid: They are a foster kid under Aina's care.
  • Happily Adopted: They are happily fostered by Aina in Zadar. Happiness averted slightly if the player answers 'It's complicated.' when referring to their relationship with Aina.
  • Hero Protagonist: Yup.
  • Heroic Fatigue: By the start of the Cipanku storyline, they may remark how tired and stressed they've become due to the incredible burden put on their shoulders.
  • Hypercompetent Sidekick: They act as Carlos' partner for the Belsoto hunt, but the player is a much stronger tamer.
  • Invincible Hero: Has a reputation of being an unbeatable tamer.
  • It's All My Fault: May blame themselves for not being able to make Max see reason and for his death. They may also blame themselves for causing Max to join the Belsoto Clan in the first place.
  • Just a Kid: The picture of this.
  • Not So Invincible After All: After most players' defeat at the hands of General X — that is, unless you do manage to defeat him.
  • Parental Abandonment: It's not clear what happened to the player's biological parents.
  • Player Character: If it wasn't already clear, this is you.
  • Prestigious Player Title: In-Universe example. They gain the title of 'Special Agent of the Congress' after the Kisiwa-Belsoto War.
    • Each player can earn individual titles to be displayed with their name as well.
  • Spanner in the Works: Goes on a journey throughout the Archipelago for the purpose of defeating the Dojo Masters, but after the first encounter with Belsoto in Windward Fort, the player becomes the biggest obstacle to them and ends up being the one to end Clan Belsoto for good after so many years.
  • Talking to Themself: Does this a lot. So much so, that it's lampshaded a few times.
  • Thinking Out Loud: Most of their inner dialogue is in parenthesis, but sometimes it appears they acutally say their thoughts out loud.
  • True Companions: With their temtem team.
  • Vague Age: It's unclear how old the Player actually is. Children refer to the player as a 'grown up' and adults refer to them as just 'kids'. A dialogue tree in a questline in Cipanku seems to imply that they're either 12, 14, or 17 years old depending on player choice.
  • World's Best Warrior: One of the best tamers in the present day.

Supporting Characters

    Max

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/max_15.png

Max serves as The Rival of this game. They come over as an unfriendly, arrogant person that goes out of their way to prove how much better and stronger they are. They are a member of Clan Belsoto.

  • Ambiguous Gender: Their gender is not defined but according to the developers, they're non-binary.
  • Best Friend: The Player may refer to them as this, despite what they had done to them.
  • Childhood Friends: Is this to the player.
  • Driven by Envy: Seemingly part of the reason why Max turned out the way they did.
  • Easily Forgiven: The player doesn't seem too angry with Max trying to ruin their life after seeing Max being shoved off by General X and somehow surviving.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: They're willing to join Clan Belsoto and frame the player for crimes in Tucma. But they start seeing the error of their ways when they learn that General X is willing to kill people.
  • Expy: Max is based off of the jerk rivals in Pokémon games such as Blue and Silver.
  • Hate Sink: They are designed to be as odious as possible to the player. Subverted at the end of the Kisiwa arc where Max starts seeing the error of their ways.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Just as they start questioning Clan Belsoto's goals, General X throws them off a cliff to their supposed death.
  • Heel–Face Turn: When it's revealed they survived the fall in Kisiwa, Max helps the player and Carlos end Belsoto for good.
  • Jerkass: Max always goes out of their way to rub things in the player's face, even if they don't reciprocate their antics.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: For all of Max's faults, the player still considers them their best friend. And after the Kisiwa arc, they start being a better person and admit that they doesn't deserve forgiveness after all they put the player through.
  • The Mole: At some point before the story begins, Max was recruited into Clan Belsoto. They are also the player's impostor, being responsible for the incidents in Tucma.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: Max's Inferiority Superiority Complex leads them to join the Belsoto Clan in the hopes of one-upping the Player Character, betraying them, their hometown, and their Dojo. It isn't until General X orders him to kill the player that they see Clan Belsoto for what they really are and tries to leave, only to be shoved off the edge of the World in the Sky by X for their desertion and seemingly fall to their death.
  • Rival Turned Evil: What happened to them sometime after joining Belsoto. They go as far as to frame their childhood friend to send them to jail.
  • Signature Mon: Oree and later, Zaobian.
  • Sore Loser: They always get upset every time the player beats them.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Was shoved off the edge of the island to their apparent death, but the other characters are just as surprised to see them survive. It's revealed in the postgame that Max grabbed onto a Grandpah to survive.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Was one to General X and the Belsoto Clan.

The foster mother of the protagonist. She seems very gentle and always makes time to heal up the player's Temtem if they happen to stop by home.

  • Good Parents: She's a loving foster mother who allows the player to follow their own path.
  • Nice Girl: She's one of if not the most gentle and easy-going people in all the Archipelago.
  • Parental Substitute: To the Player, in place of their biological parents.
  • Retired Badass: A sidequest reveals that she used to be the Properton Dojo Master. And she puts up a tough fight if you battle her.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/professorkonstantinostemp.png

Professor Konstantinos is a professor from Deniz. He has a lab in Zadar and is currently studying Tuwai.
He is a nice, friendly, and comedic person, that serves as The Mentor to the player. He hands them their first starter and a Tuwai. However, all it not what it seems.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Yeah, that kindly mentor of yours? Is a psychopathic monarch wannabe who wants to take control of the Archipelago regardless of cost.
  • Big Bad: Is the actual power behind the Belsoto Clan.
  • Expy: He's inspired by the other Pokémon Professors that give the player their starter. But unlike them, Konstantinos is evil.
  • Karmic Death: He studied Tuwai specifically and gave one to you. Fitting, then, that all Tuwai evolutions cast a solar beam that kills him.
  • Make My Monster Grow: Has a giant Zizare in the background during the battle with him.
  • Time-Limit Boss: The battle with him has a giant Zizare slowly crush the tower, limiting the number of turns the player has before the tower crumbles entirely.
  • Walking Spoiler: The last updates reveal quite a lot about him.
  • Villain in a White Suit: Eschews his academic garb for a metallic white suit as Konstantinos Rex.

  • Graceful Loser: If you somehow manage to beat him in Kisiwa, he will applaud you for your strength.
  • Hopeless Bossfight: At the end of the "Battle for Kisiwa" questline, the player will fight him. He has 4 Temtem with level 80+, where at this point in the story, the protagonist's team level is likely not even 60. The fight can be won, however.
