I was an orphaned as a young child and was raised by my currently adoptive parents. My adoptive father was a former special forces member and I learned much of what I know about fighting from him.

Other than fighting, no.
  • 32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?
Food, a house and a few truly close friends.
  • 33. How do you deal with failure?
Try to learn from it and not do it again

From my mother I don't fight for any government. Only for the people I believe in. For them, I would sacrifice nearly anything.
  • 39: If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?
I dunno, I have much of what I truly need with me already.
  • 40: When do you feel your best?
When I can see that what I'm doing is actually making some form of difference, not like I'm just chopping of the proverebial "ceaselessly regrowing hydra heads".
  • 41: When was your first kiss?
With my childhood friend Delana (age 18) when I was 17. She, being the Ojou she is, took me to some really fancy restaurant with a stage. During some song about everything that makes the "narrator" love the object of her affections, she slinked real close and made her move. I found out later that song was about HER feelings towards me and that she had asked the signer to compose that song and "sing it when the time is right".
  • 42: What are your weaknesses?
I'm the cold anti-social type unless you earn my trust. I'm also struggling with PTSD from all the horrors I've seen and fought
  • 43: If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it.
Won't do it. Power corrupts. I should know, I've seen the effects of corruption by power.
  • 44: How honest are you?
Bluntly so.
  • 45: Have you ever been discriminated against.
No.
  • 46: Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?
23
  • 47: How do you feel about your government?
It's got good and bad people; but the bad elements are an absolute menance from my experiences.
  • 48: What are the people you work with like?
I work with very kind hearted people. One is a Gad Fly medic with some true guile. The other is a shy nerdy computer expert. Such wonderful support. The Dark Magical Girl (age 16) I had to pull out of her inner darkness has been a real asset with her wind and lightning powers.
  • 49: Describe yourself.
Cold, aloof, and have "seen it all". I see people who think the life of a hero is grand, but if only they knew the truth.
  • 50: What would your last meal be?
Cheese enchiladas. Don't forget to make them spicy.
  • 51: If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?
"Let me tell you about the hero's life. To carry that mantle is to eternally surround yourself in the horrors, tragedy and suffering of a pained world, walking a path forever stained in bloodshed, and constantly reminded of the fragility of life. If you cannot accept that fate, then you are not fit to bear that mantle."
  • 52: Would you sacrafice your humanity for your loved ones.
My life yes. My humanity, hell no.
  • 53: When you kill, do you try to justify it?
I do what I must to protect the innocent.
  • 54: What is your Berserk Button?
You harm kids, you're dead.
  • 55: What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?
Probably killing someone out of pure blood lust.
  • 55: What is your age in earth years?
17.
  • 59: What turns you on sexually?
If it weren't for Delana, I'd be Asexual. If there's anything, its flat chested blondes (I guess that's to her advantage).
  • 63: What was your relationship with your parents like?
My biological parents? Dead. My adoptive, good, despite the Training from Hell I received from my adoptive father starting at age 9 when I told him about my promise and I wanted to make a difference.
  • 64: Would you ever 'settle down'?
Eventually, but not until I have fufilled my promise.
  • 65: What is your most defining skill or skills?
  • 66. What event or choice brought you to where you are today?
After that fateful accident, my best friend stood by me during those dark days. She talked about her dreams and it was then that I made my promise.
  • 68. You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?
I would have prevented the event that led to that Mercy Kill.
  • 69. Who is most precious to you?
My close friends and family.
  • 72. Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?
In the middle.

Here's someone from the Critique thread:

Now Calling: ....

....

Um, Now Call-

I will introduce myself.

Ah! Oh. Of course. Um, sure.

Very much obliged.

Greetings, Earth-bound. I am Baron Vetala, sometime known as Vetala the Walker of Nights. I am most gracious to answer your questions.

1. How was your life at home?

Boring, at least for the first part of my life. I was an academic (and censor) of literature, nothing more. It was only after I found The Antediluvian Codex, my subsequent mutation, and learning the true depths of the, ahem, Most Pure And Virtuous Republics's hypocrisy that it became extraordinary.

2. What's your main drive in life?

The furthering of the Malandanti's goals-which is to say, to use the power of the imprisoned Titans and scientific demonology to topple the Confederation and their xenophobic, fascistic lies and usher in a new era of equality, fraternity, and liberty.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

Good tendencies, but naive and easily twisted.

4. How do you fight?

Since neither Raziel nor Dagran seemed to believe this was important over on the other quorum, using a cybernetically modified archdemon called a "familiar" in Titancaller language as a combat mech. My own tactics are based around my abilities as an illusionist and tactician for the various guardian demons my own, Lilian, spawns at a rapid pace.

5. Why do you fight?

Because the revolution requires bloodshed and sacrifice-the Confederation is so lost in its own mythos of being the last great bastion of purity against the Outer and the Titans that they regard any form of dissent as apostasy against the Divine Cosmos. To put this in perspective, we Malandanti invoke the Cosmos before any Titanic-based rituals to reaffirm that He is before all other beings and we are intercessors on Her behalf.

6. What do you fight?

The Confederation, mainly, but also demons who have gotten out of hand, the more insane Titancallers, and the Outer when they work their alien designs (or as they are more accurately known, attacks) upon us.

7. What is your worst fear?

Failure so grand it leaves both mutants and the discriminated species in the Confederation of Light even worse off than before. Also the undead. They just...frighten me.

8. What is your most treasured material possession?

The Codex, as mentioned above-besides being a valuable little curse tome in it's own right, it is a source for all the history and truth that the Confederation denied me. It's also a good trap for any robbers-they read it to make it theirs, and the eldritch language of the Outer causes most to fall over in a coma right there. The ones who resist the power are generally those I would share the Codex with anyway, though I still want it back.

9. Who is your closest friend?

I hope to call the other Trimurti-Raziel and Dagran-this someday, but as for now? I don't let people come close unless there is some mutual gain from the relationship. Less potential for backstabbing. The most vital is Waylan the rune engineer, as of right now.

10. What is your outlook on love?

Probably more shaped from the novels I have read than actual love.

11. What is your favorite pastime?

Literary analysis and, not confidentially, arguing with others about literature. I also enjoy learning and all forms of beauty, no matter how ahuman, though I'm no artist myself.

12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Expressions are fairly vital to everyone, so I'll pass. If I had to choose, it would be serenity.

13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

In the common vulgarity, a nerd. An attractive nerd, but I prefer someone smart enough to understand my references and jargon.

14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

Several times. My preparation to flee to Malandanti space was induced by one as I noticed the growth of glider wings and claws.

15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo?

Depends. Are we talking about sorcery or superstition? In either case, no, but the former is a bit more nuanced, as it is quite the debate whether it is a science or an art. I believe the former, but I understand the latter.

16. What's your alignment and why?

I don't care for codifying my ethical and moral viewpoints. But if you insist...Neutral Evil, as I do not care either way for legal codes, and anything is on the table for the Malandanti's goals.

17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.

A world where every man, woman, and child is judged by their actions, rather than their beliefs or their appearance.

18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

"Here lies the Baron Vetala, champion of the Revolution. His voice lives beyond him. RIP."

19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

Flight. Either in planes or using my wings, either makes me feel at ease and alive.

20. What is your favorite vice?

Sloth. Sitting around, doing nothing particularly important is a luxury I so love.

21. What do you do to relax?

...The above question. And maintaining my appearance, especially before attending the quorum, both for the charismatic effect and because I am rather vain about these things.

22. What is your favorite color?

Oh, I prefer black and white. The former because it suits my style of dress, the latter because, thanks to Lilian's human appearance, there are few things more terrifying than an ivory and silver angel splattered with red, blue and black splashes of whatever I have killed bearing down on my enemies.

23. Who is your worst enemy?

That damnable...*twitch*...Jonah...Orcinus. I have fought dozens of Conferation knights-pilot and over a hundred others matched only by familiars, but none have so enraged me as that cheeky ass. Even when I blast that mech of his to so much superspatial debris, he escapes to vex me again!

24. Whom do you most admire?

The great leader of the Malandanti, head of the Council of Gnosis, Cyrus le Thermidor. When I was lost, my belief in the Confederation shattered, his writings gave me a new ideal to trust and dedicate myself to.

25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

For the Malandanti to win, and establish the new era of peace and freedom, without being corrupted by power.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

Um...depends on who dropped it, I suppose. A complete stranger would likely have it returned, but someone from the Confederation? There are better uses than whatever he or she was using it for, even if it is for my benefit alone-it didn't need to be part of their economy anyway.

27. Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

Freedom and victory. I wouldn't have applied for the witch-pilot program otherwise, and would have remained a civilian.

28. What's your worst memory?

Ironically, it is also the lead-up to my best; reading the Codex for the first time. The Outer language isn't actually damaging to human intellects, but due to the way they think, you have to know something of what they are talking about and a strong will otherwise to avoid the mind pain, but I qualified for both when I stole the book from being destroyed. And in the moment I understood, everything I had believed up to that point was shown for the lie it was. It was...disheartening. At least, until I realized how liberating it was.

29. Are you financially rich or poor?

I have quite the pretty penny hidden in Confederation space...if I could get to it. As it is, I'm working on a moderate soldier's pay and whatever bounties I can get for destroying special or elite targets.

30. Who raised you?

...My parents? Good people, although still with the wool pulled over their eyes.

31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?

Lilian is fairly rare in being a demon spawner, so that's one. I've also honed my sorcerous abilities to create powerful hallucinations, illusions, and telepathy-I specialize in disruption tactics, tiring and confusing the enemy before Lilian's spawn move in for the kill. And uh, wings and the ability to glide on sorcerous wind, though I don't really use that ability on the basis of "I'm inside a mech that can fly anyway".

32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

Freedom and the ability to learn as much truth as I want, free of lies or deliberate distortion.

33. How do you deal with failure?

Curse, then examine the combat logs and enter a simulation to train the failure out.

34. Do you have any famous relatives?

As far as I know...no.

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

Correct them. I am male, ergo I am a Gary Stu.

36. How did you get your name?

It was an alias that I used when I was a hidden sympathizer to the Malandanti, now it's my call-sign and the name I mostly go by when I have a choice. "Corey Lloyd" just isn't something I'm fond of, and it's not something that inspires respect next to the other Trimurti.

37. What three tropes would give anyone a good idea of what you are?'

I will go one better and explain my reasoning.

  • The Anti-Nihilist: I was soured on the idea of "divine purpose" of any kind when I let the Codex's lesson be learned. I have since realized that I don't care.
  • The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized: The day for words is past-now is time for swords. And bombs. And a thousand other weapons.
  • Visionary Villain: I see a bold new future that is free of oppression, of racism, and of censorship. And if you are in my way...well, that's really terrible fortune, isn't it.

38. What would you sacrifice for your country?

For the Malandanti, I only regret that I would not live to see our victory.

39. If you could have anything, no strings attached, what would it be?

All the proscribed information I erased and destroyed be restored, and released to the populace.

40. When do you feel your best?

Either when I have been instrumental in assisting the Malandanti or I save a bit of knowledge and wisdom from the censors of the Confederation and preserve it in the Trimurti's library.

41. When was your first kiss?

In secondary school. I swore never to speak of it again, and I intend to keep that promise.

42. What are your weaknesses?

I'm rather frail outside of Lilian, and she is a somewhat vulnerable familiar, due to the spawning organs needing to be exposed. I'm also told I'm fairly narcissistic and am a bit too much on the vengeful side for my own good.

43. If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it?

Why not? It's probably better for everyone, being free.

44. How honest are you?

As honest as the situation requires. Which is often not much.

45. Have you ever been discriminated against?

It wasn't until I grew wings and claws that I feared it. I escaped before anyone could notice and I would be "cleansed", but in Malandanti space I am part of a very large minority. There's some racists, but they tend to be glared at until they shut up.

46. Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

Number 28. That moment changed everything.

47. How do you feel about your government?

I was a patriot of the Confederation before the Codex, and I still am-of the Malandanti. I found a new focus for trust and meaning.

48. What are the people you work with like?

Well, Raziel is rather unnerving in my view, since he views the Titans not as a primordial race sealed outside rational space, but genuine gods-rather frightening for the more pragmatic, like myself. Dagran is more approachable, but unless you are talking about fighting, war, or those games she enjoys, it is like conversing with a brick wall. I still view them as companions and friends, but they are obviously on different levels of intellect than I. Perhaps better, but I do wish they'd listen to me more.

49. Describe yourself.

A scholar seeking freedom for all, and the beauty of wisdom.

50. What would your last meal be?

One with a tool for a last-minute escape hidden in it. Then, I could say I didn't take it lying down.

51. If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

"So ends Baron Vetala the man...and so begins the legend..."

52. Would you sacrifice your humanity for your loved ones?

As spoken by other, greater men: Been there. Done that.

53. When you kill, do you try to justify it?

Given who I destroy? I don't see the need, for the most part. I may change the tune if I meet a knight-pilot I can actually respect or reasons for the Outer to attack us other than feeding on despair and resource raiding.

54. What is your Berserk Button?

Rulers lying to the people. Especially the kind that causes people to fight for a false cause.

55. What is your age in earth years?

38, though thanks to longevity treatments and certain mutations, I look and feel younger than that.

56. What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?

BROTHER!...is an adequate summation. Though I will mention that our demons, while native to superspace and not rational space, are sorcerous creations of the Titans and no better or worse than any other person (although they resent cruel masters to no end). Yours seem more like the Outer to me.

57. Where do hope to be/what do you hope to be doing in five years?

Helping to consolidate the power of a now-stable and strong Malandanti Empire of Reason.

58. What was your proudest moment?

My first long mission. I helped destroy the garrison of the penal planet Tartarus III, and with it a major symbol of the Confederation's power, and took a lot of the experimental and quality weapons there.

59. What turns you on sexually?

Intelligence. And having my wings massaged by someone I like (people I don't like tend to get claws in the face. The sick bastards).

60. Can you sum up your entire worldview in one phrase?

Knowledge, wisdom, and freedom are synonyms.

61. What's your preferred kind of music?

Hard rock and jazz. What, you expected opera?

62. What's your most distinctive feature?

Wings and claws. I could disguise them, but I prefer to show off my gift. If you do not enjoy them, you can leave.

63. What was your relationship with your parents like?

Quite loving, thank you. Even if they were a bit overprotective.

64. Would you ever 'settle down'?

When the vision is realized, not before.

65. What is your most defining skill or skills?

My illusions, my abilities as a witch-pilot and tactician, and the store of knowledge I have picked up-along with political theories, though I don't claim I am a great leader in peace.

66. What event or choice brought you to where you are today?

I chose to see what was so frightening about the Codex to my superiors. I then chose to embrace that fear.

67. If you found yourself in some other story, what kind of story would it be and why?

Political dramas, I think. I'd be a good politician if I chose that path.

68. What do you consider to be honor?

Never compromising your beliefs for self-serving reasons.

69. You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?

Taking my parents with me to Malandanti space. I am truly dreading discovering what the Confederation's spite entails.

70. Who is most precious to you?

Who? Um...I will let you know when I find someone.

71. Who is the one person from your past you miss the most?

My parents. And my friend and colleague, Alvus Mardux. He was always a good person, always believed what he was doing was right, however naive it was.

72. Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!

Yes, though really for reasons of enforcing true justice.

73. Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?

Leaning towards cynicism. Most people mean well, but they keep on screwing up because they didn't have the full picture, willingly or not. I try to learn as much as I can about the situation first, but yes, I am not perfect about this. Not yet.

74. What area do you have the least amount of knowledge in?

Engineering. Raw, purely physical knowledge and I are neighbors whose mutual existence is something we don't often remember.

What rises must fall, what falls may rise again.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?
  • Philosophical questions aren't my cup of tea.
4. How do you fight?

7. What is your worst fear?
  • Being taken by either the angels or the demons or other parties, or being overworked.
8. What is your most treasured material possession?

9. Who is your closest friend?
  • Gerald Werther. I knew him since we're just kids, he always stood up for me, caring me like his own little brother. Though he's getting cranky at me ever since we enrolled at the academy, probably because I surpassed his grades or that he secretly had a superiority complex. But whatever...

  • Cars, obviously.
20. What is your favourite vice?
  • Sloth. I'd conserve energy as much as I can.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?
  • Unless it involves someone that I know of, then it's not my business.

29. Are you financially rich or poor?
  • Nothing special again, average.
30. Who raised you?
  • After my parents' death, uncle Nicholas and aunt Janine. They're a talented pair of historian and painter, respectively.
31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?
  • Having mage powers are neat, minus the discriminations. But my acting talent on the other hand, I revel every moment of it. And whatever caused me on the heaven and hell's target list, now that's a curse.
32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?
  • An average job and a loving family.
33. How do you deal with failure?

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)? 36. How did you get your name?

48: If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be? 49: What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?

  • A brilliant, apathetic, stoic mage with an acting talent.
51.What would you choose as your last meal and why?
  • Anything prepared by Sam herself.
52: Would you sacrifice your humanity in order to save the ones you love?
  • As much as I don't want to admit it, yes I would .
53: When you kill a man, do you ever try to justify your actions?
  • Why would I?
54: What is your Berserk Button?
  • When someone resorts to threatening a family and loved ones.
55: What is your age in Earth years?
  • 15
56: What do you believe to be honour?
  • Doing something that's right, even when other people might disagree.
57: What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?
  • Never thought that aliens do exist, and one that shares my literary passion. But in any case, welcome to earth.
58: Where do hope to be/what do you hope to be doing in five years?
  • Graduating the academy, building my relationship with Sam, mend things up with Gerald, be more social, and hopefully resolving the whole "me on heaven and hell's target list".

65: What turns you on sexually?
  • I'm not going to answer that, thank you very much.
66: What are the people you work with like?
  • They're willing to put up a lot with me, and that's saying something. As well as trying to cheer me up as if I'm a grumpy old man.
67: Would you ever 'settle down'?
  • Yes, when I was 60.
68: What event or choice brought you to where you are today?
  • Accepting the talisman probably.
69: You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?
  • Saving my parents, for reasons that should be obvious.
70: Who is most precious to you?
  • Everyone I cared for.
71: Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!
  • No.
72: Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?

Answering is Victor, as he was at the start of my second story. He's a fifty-something man, a former soldier, avid gardener, and Eitri's attempted mentor.

1. How was your life at home?

Well, as my father always said, we never ate like nobles. Not that we never wanted for anything. I see now it was a good life, but I was a fool and chafed at the quiet. When the harkers came to tell us there was a war, I couldn’t wait to leave.

2. What's your main drive in life?

Keeping my orchard free of pests. It’s a job fit for a giant: every year it seems more and more weeds find their way past my wall, and all the young ones have left, save Eitri and Lilith, so there aren’t as many helping hands.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

I’ve never put much stock in such questions. I say we either decide what to make of ourselves, or we let others decide for us.

4. How do you fight?

Never again.

5. Why do you fight?

I don’t. I have no quarrel with any man, and I do my best not to start any.

6. What do you fight?

Rabbits and weeds.

7. What is your worst fear?

That I’ll wake up and find the forest has taken my orchard back.

8. What is your most treasured material possession?

My straw hat, I’d say. It keeps the sun out of my eyes, and is masterfully weaved, so it doesn’t scratch my scalp.

9. Who is your closest friend?

All my companions have probably forgotten about ‘Big Vic’ after all these years. I suppose I’d say the old man of the woods, though he’s a bit sharp to be a proper friend. Still, he has a good heart, and after listening to children chatter all day it’s a balm to listen to some sense.

10. What is your outlook on love?

Just another missed opportunity.

11. What is your favorite pastime?

Cooking the food I’ve grown and raised. Makes me feel like a proper king.

12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A frown. It’s what I wear usually, smiling makes my eye hurt.

13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

Eh, I can’t think of any woman who’d want me. I never learned to be gentle.

14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

Plenty of times, during the war. I still think it’s a boon I only lost the eye.

15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo?

Oh yes. You don’t fight shiro in the dark without learning a thing or two about magic. Not that all the tales are true, but just because the bull isn’t brown doesn’t mean it doesn’t have horns.

16. What's your alignment and why?

I suppose there’s a piece of paper somewhere saying I’m still a citizen of the Twelve Kingdoms. If they haven’t lost it that is. Way I see it, I’ll follow their laws and clean their roads but I’m not fighting in their wars again.

17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.

A place that’s quiet and green, where men can tend to their farms families without bother.

18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

A man who did more good than ill in the end, I suppose. Actually, I hope nobody says anything. I hope all the young ones are out in the world, too busy to pay a mind to my passing. It’d be for the best.

19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

There’s no noble luxury as fine as riding a well bred horse. They’re good companions, even if you’re not on their backs. I wish more men were as reasonable.

20. What is your favorite vice?

Every now and again I drink more than my ration of cider, but I’ve no time for serious vices. When I was younger I was quite the brawler. A bit unfair because of my height but, well, I wasn’t named ‘Victor’ for nothing.

21. What do you do to relax?

Knit a new cloak for the young ones. Mine aren’t as fine as what they make in Woll, but they’ve kept us plenty warm come winter time.

22. What is your favorite color?

The first pink of dawn. Let’s you know the suns about to be up again. There’s no color more welcome when you fight shiro.

23. Who is your worst enemy?

None. Those I fought are long dead, and the only beings who have a right to fear me nowadays are rabbits and squirrels.

24. Whom do you most admire?

The old man. It takes courage to welcome a stranger into your home, especially one who was about to take your head. Then on top of that he took those kids in too. It’s not something I’d have done, especially not with winter coming. I was sure there wasn’t going to be enough food, sure we couldn’t possibly keep them. Somehow we made it. He’s a crusty old bastard, but he doesn’t let that stop him from being decent. He’s as poor as a monk but gives like kings should.

25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

I’d wish for these blasted weeds to stay on their side of the wall. Chasing off rabbits is one thing but my back isn’t what it used to be. Soon I’ll be helpless to stop them. Or maybe I'd wish Eitri some sense. The boy could use it.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

Holler at them to come back and pick it up.

27. Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

Nothing I can think of. I’ve got all I need.

28. What's your worst memory?

The day I broke my oath. I’d sworn never to touch a weapon again but one of the children, Tyn, wouldn’t stop badgering me. He wanted me to teach him to use a blade. He wanted to protect his siblings. Well, after what they’d been through, how could I fault him? So I gave him my smaller blade and taught him to use it. He learned quickly, and soon he was wearing the sword around his waist like a regular hero.

I was a dragon blasted fool to let him keep it. You see, something dark followed those kids when they came to the forest. One by one they fought it and beat it, all save one. One of his siblings had, well, I guess you'd call it an accident. They weren’t in their right mind, attacked him in the forest. He acted just as I’d trained him, and we found him standing over the body, blood on his blade. He did the right thing, all things considered. Saved his own life, perhaps, and his younger brothers and sisters to. Still, I can’t help but think that maybe we’d have found a way to save them both if he hadn’t had the blade. Or perhaps I’m being a fool. Still, mark this, I’ll never touch a sword again.

29. Are you financially rich or poor?

Poorer than most, we’ve got only the orchard and pond to feed us. If it weren’t for the runts and runaways from the nearby farms we’d all be a lot thinner.

30. Who raised you?

My parents, as well as my old grandmother. They were folks of few words, though I remember grandmother used to sing to us. Even today I can remember their faces, but I probably wouldn't be able to recall their voices.

31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?

Well, not sure if you’d call it a talent, but I’ve always been strong. I was always saddled with the dirtiest jobs back home. Well, I mean, you don’t plow a field with a sheep just to give the ox a rest. I suppose it’s been a blessing, I’ve won a fair share of fights without even needing to strike a blow.

32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

Just a patch of earth and the peace to tend it. A little rain never hurts, of course.

33. How do you deal with failure?

You move along. You revive a parched land with sweat, not tears.

34. Do you have any famous relatives?

Well, I had an uncle who was a famous drunk.

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

Sounds like they’ve said all that needs to be said.

36. How did you get your name?

When my mother gave birth to my brother and I, I was the first to leave the womb. My parents weren’t the most creative minds in the Twelve Kingdoms. They called me Victor, and named my brother Loser. Of course we just called him ‘Loose’.

37. What would you sacrifice for your country?

I’ve already given them an eye. I suppose I’d still be willing to give a piece of my mind, if they’d have it.

38. If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?

A good sturdy horse. I’ve found lost cats, dogs, goats and lambs in the forest, even a piglet once, but I’ve yet to find a sturdy foal. It would make the trips to Woll faster, and would make a good companion.

39. When do you feel your best?

Just after the last harvest has been stored, and the cider is brewing. When summer is over, but winter hasn’t begun.

40. When was your first kiss? What was it like?

It was after I left home. We had had just been outfitted with arms and assigned our unit. We were marching north and stopped in Taerinth for the night when we saw some poor inn keeper’s daughter being harassed by a pair of sailors. I scared them away and she gave me a kiss for my trouble. My mates never let me live it down.

41. What are your weaknesses?

Well, what with my eye missing I’m not nearly as good a shot as I once was. Used to be I could peg a rabbit with a rock and skin it for dinner. Now I’m content if I can make them run.

42. If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it.

Eh, I wouldn’t know where to begin. My orchard’s enough work for me.

43. How honest would you say you are, with others and yourself?

We were always straight in my family. We said little, but we spoke the truth. I used to be like that, but found it makes you somewhat unpopular. So I took to saying even less.

44. Have you ever been discriminated against?

There were a couple of towns where they wouldn’t let me in the inns. Thought a man of my size looked like trouble, I suppose. My officers –nobles, mostly- seemed to cherish giving me the dirtiest jobs. I think they thought it was fun, ordering around a man nearly twice their size.

45. Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

28. About my worst memory. I forgot my oath once. Don’t want it to happen again.

46. What thought keeps you from giving into despair in the darkest of times?

The wall I built in the forest, surrounding my orchard and keeping it safe. Reminds me my hands are good for building things too.

47. What is worth not the risk, but the certain cost of your life?

Protecting the young ones. The world doesn’t need more old men, and each of them could be a hero.

48. What would you compromise your principles for?

I know I swore an oath, but it doesn’t take much imagination to picture me breaking it again. I’m not like the old man, my will has been broken before. So I’ll just say, to prevent something that would compromise them even more.

49. How do you feel about your government?

Can’t say it fills me with pride. Still, I think Hyro and the other twelve knew what they were doing when they made the laws. At least we’re not ruled as they are in the Old Kingdoms. Here, at least, the idiot nobles have to compete with the idiot commoners.

50. What are the people you work with like.

The old man can be an irritable bastard, but he’s got a good heart. He only had a tiny garden patch when I first arrived, but when he caught me scrounging he invited me to share what he had. He claims he’s regretted it ever since, but I’ll never forget what he did. He’s wise too, wiser than I’ll ever be. Some men are just born with it, I suppose. Most of the young ones have grown up and gone, save for Eitri and Lilith. The boy’s a laggard. Doesn’t want to do a lick of work, and would much rather spend his days staring at the sky. Don’t know what he’d do if it weren’t for us. He got it into his head that he wants to be a magician. The old man doesn’t discourage it, but I think he’d be better off learning something practical. As for Lilith, well, she’s smart as a whip and you couldn’t ask for a better helper. Never stops asking questions, and you can tell when she’s not satisfied with your answers. She’ll give you this look, this look that says ‘all right, I know you won’t tell me. But I’m going to figure it out anyway.’ She can smell a lie a mile away, that girl.

51. How would your character describe him/herself?

Tall, grey and tough. With less hair and eyes than he used to have.

52. What would you choose as your last meal and why?

Mashed vegetable stew, warm cider and roasted pork, all raised in my own orchard. It’d remind me I’d done something right, for once.

53. If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

Eh, I’m terrible with things like this. “Mind your siblings!” for the children, I suppose.

54. Would you sacrifice your humanity for your loved ones?

As sure as I am of anything. They’ve got fresh lives ahead of them, mine would be no loss. The old have no right to hoard life at the expense of the young. We had our chance, now it’s up to them.

55. When you kill, do you try to justify it?

I don’t kill, not any more. Used to do it because I was ordered to, and soon enough there was plenty of justification even without orders. Turns out it doesn’t matter. They’re probably just as justified in wanting to kill you, so where does that leave you? Better to leave swords out of it all together.

56. What is your Berserk Button?

Sloth, especially among those who should know better.

57. What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?

Couldn’t tell you. But I’m sure there’s something. If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that promises aren’t worth the breath it takes to utter them.

58. What is your age in earth years?

Let’s see, I was well over twenty when I left for war. I stayed there for a good eight years, eight years too many, then spent a year or two wandering until I found the old man. Took me at least two years to get my orchard planted, and now it’s been at least a decade and a half since we found the young ones. That would make me… too old.

59. What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?

The mage-boy reminds me of Eitri. Kind of an idiot, but then he’s young.

Not sure what to make of that Baron Vetala fellow. I'd peg him as a scholar. Probably a noble as well. Sounds like he's in neck deep in one of their causes.

60. Where do hope to be/what do you hope to be doing in five years?

If I’m not in the ground, what I’m doing now.

61. What was your proudest moment?

Once I didn’t think I could be prouder of anything than my orchard. But then I helped bring Lilith into the world. I’d never have thought I’d be able to do a thing like that.

62. What turns you on sexually?

I’ve lost my fire years ago, but I remember a day when the smell of wet hair would make me feel quite friendly.

63. Can you sum up your entire worldview in one phrase?

The world can be a nasty place. No need to make it worse.

64. What's your preferred kind of music.

While I’ve been much for singing, I’ve always been fond of Irfrin dancing songs, the kind they play in the inns after everyone’s had too much to drink. Never much for dancing myself, of course, but it could lift my spirits. Like wine for your ears. I’ve quite an ear for Kiro’s songs as well. It’s been too quiet here, now that he and his kin have left.

65. What is your most distinctive feature.

Used to be my size, I don’t think I’ve ever had to look sunward to see into a man’s eyes. Nowadays, though, it would be the missing eye.

66. What was your relationship with your parents like?

Quiet. There would be days when we wouldn’t say a word to one another. I don’t think we needed to, we had our way of speaking without talking, if you follow me. Now I’d say they were like a roof. I never took notice of them, but now that I’ve left them behind I can say I miss them dearly.

67. Would you ever 'settle down'?

Already have. Best decision of my life.

68. What is your most defining skill or skills?

My strength. It’s always been what others have noticed about me.

69. What event or choice brought you to where you are today.

The decision to leave the farm and seek my fortune fighting the shiro. Stupidest thing I’ve ever done.

70. If you found yourself in some other story, what kind of story would it be and why?

One of those bard songs, the ones that tell the fates of foolish men. I’ve lived enough of it already, now I’m just waiting for the trick ending.

71. What do you believe to be honour.

True honour, you say? None of that noble filth? Well, I’d say it’s as simple as sticking to your word. You think it sounds easy, but even in this forest I find it takes all my effort to keep.

72. You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?

I’d never have given Tyn that sword. I’d have told him to leave it be, to help his siblings by feeding them and building sturdy places for them to live. I’ve done worse things, but I made that mistake after I thought I’d learned better.

73. Who is most precious to you?

All the young ones are dear to me, but I’ve got a special love for the youngest girl, Lilith. I’ve known her since she was brought into this world. Don’t know how I’ll manage when she goes to the elf realms with her sister and brothers. Maybe I’ll have a horse to keep me company by then.

74. Who is the one person from your past you miss most?

My brother, Loose. When I left to fight the shiro I figured he’d leave the farm with me. But he stayed behind and I can’t help but wonder just what he thinks of his brother now?

75. Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!

Does a fish love swimming? There’s nothing quite like a good brawl. Gets your heart pounding, your courage flowing, even the air smells crisper. Nothing better for a young man’s constitution. Thought the war would feel the same, I suppose.

76. What did you do yesterday?

After I fed the menagerie, I hunted for Eitri and made him help me finish pruning the orchard. Then I told him to fetch firewood and went to check our nets in the pond. Came back to find Lilith lugging a whole pile of branches herself, so I found the boy again –he was counting the gills on the inside of a mushroom!- and I dragged him back and told him to help store the early vegetables. Well, they started to disappear so I figured he was doing his job, but when I came down to get supplies for dinner I found him sleeping in the corner. If I spent as much time working as I did herding him about I’d have turned this whole forest into the world’s biggest orchard by now!

77. Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?

I know I’ve made a mess of things, and I know others will do worse some day. Still, if even I can make things grow, I think there’s got to be some hope for just about everybody.

Answering as Suesse (Süße), trying stuff out for a new project.

1. How was your life at home?

I didn't have a home, or at least I don't think I did. I recall a few voices that sound, I guess that's the right word, familiar. I really don't know. Can I pass this or something?

2. What's your main drive in life?

I don't have one. I don't even know why I get up in the morning, all we do is walk and talk.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

Finn's great. He's said that "There's some right [er, you know]* out there." So they must be bad.

  • that would be Tess doing the censoring, not me. For all it matters.

4. How do you fight?

Fight?! I don't. I'd be useless anyway; can't hit something if you can't see it... If we ever needed to fight, Finn would step up.

5. Why do you fight?

Well, yeah.

6. What do you fight?

Are you even paying attention?

7. What is your worst fear?

Being alone would be awful. For any reason. I don't think I'd last more than a few days by myself.

8. What is your most treasured material possession?

I don't own anything other than my clothes and this stick.

9. Who is your closest friend?

Finn. He's great. I said that I doubt I'd last longer than a few days alone, and he's the only reason I'm here to say that now.

10. What is your outlook on love?

It's great, isn't it?

11. What is your favorite pastime?

Finn, if you get my meaning.

12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be.

That's not really a fair question to ask a blind girl, is it? Something happy, I guess.

13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

Finn. He's just great.

14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

Almost starving to death was scary. It can be scary when I annoy Finn too, but that's not as scary.

15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo?

No. It's exactly that, mumbo-jumbo.

16. What's your alignment and why?

Alignment? What do you mean?

17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.

I wish it was warmer, and there was food.

18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

That's an awful question! How dare you!

19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

Transport? We just walk everywhere, is there an alternative?

20. What is your favourite vice?

Vice? Goodness, I don't know; there's so many and they all make me sound bad. Gluttony, I suppose, though I never actually get enough food.

21. What do you do to relax?

Sleep. On Finn.

22. What is your favorite colour?

Go to hell.

23. Who is your worst enemy?

I don't have one. I only know Finn, and I could never consider him an enemy.

24. Whom do you most admire?

Finn, obviously. He saved my life, gets me food, talks to me... What else could I want?

25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

Food. All the food I could eat, and then some.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

Money?

27. Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

I don't know. I've never had to risk my life, I couldn't possibly answer.

28. What's your worst memory?

I would say almost starving to death, but that's when I met Finn. Or rather, when he found me.

29. Are you financially rich or poor?

Finan-cial-ly? Stop with the gibberish!

30. Who raised you?

I don't know, and if I did, I wouldn't tell you.

31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?'''

No, unless you consider my blindness, and that's far from a blessing.

32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

Food and Finn. Oh! And a nice, warm blanket.

33. How do you deal with failure?

I've yet to actually do something that can properly fail, so I don't know.

34. Do you have any famous relatives?

How many times do I need to tell you, I don't know anyone other than Finn. Now stop asking stupid questions.

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

I don't even know what that means.

36. How did you get your name?

It's just what Finn calls me.

37. What three tropes would give anyone a good idea of what you are?

-Deuteragonist

-Disaster Scavengers

-The Only One I Trust

38: What would you sacrifice for your country?

Again with the gibberish.

39: If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?

Food.

40: When do you feel your best?

Just on the verge of sleep, beside Finn. Sex is nice, but it's not the same.

41: When was your first kiss?

It was Finn. I don't know when, sometime in the past.

42: What are your weaknesses?

I'm not strong, and I'm blind.

43: If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it?

In my image? Is that a dig?

44: How honest are you?

I've never told a lie.

45: Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

What? They're questions. Just pick one that wasn't stupid.

46: Have you ever been discriminated against?

No.

47: How do you feel about your government?

This is getting really annoying.

48: If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

My last words? I'm not answering that.

49: What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?

Seriously, what does this mean? I'm nice to Finn, why would I ever not be?

50. How would you describe yourself?

I'm me. I don't know. Go ask Finn if you want me described.

51.What would you choose as your last meal and why?

Anything.

52: Would you sacrifice your humanity in order to save the ones you love?

My humanity? I'd sacrifice anything for Finn.

53: When you kill a man, do you ever try to justify your actions?

I've never killed anyone, and I don't ever want to. I don't even want to meet anyone else.

54: What is your Berserk Button?

People asking stupid questions over and over.

55: What is your age in Earth years?

I don't know. I'm not sure how long I've even been with Finn.

56: What do you believe to be honour?

I don't even know what that is.

57: What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?

I don't know. He seemed okay, but not as nice as Finn.

58: Where do hope to be/what do you hope to be doing in five years?

Anything, as long as it is with Finn.

59: What was your proudest moment?

I don't think I've ever been proud of anything. We don't do enough.

60: What is your most distinctive physical feature?

...

61: Can you sum up your entire worldview in one phrase?

No.

62: What is your most distinctive feature?

SERIOUSLY, stop it.

63: What was your relationship with your parents like?

I hate you.

64: What's your preferred kind of music?

Birdsong.

65: What turns you on sexually?

Finn; and certain aspects of him.

66: What are the people you work with like?

I don't work with anyone, but Finn's great, like I said so many times earlier. Pay attention.

67: Would you ever 'settle down'?

I don't know what you mean by this.

68: What event or choice brought you to where you are today?

I don't know. I don't really make choices, I just go with what Finn does.

69: You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?

Something that I don't remember. I wouldn't change anything that's happened with Finn.

70: Who is most precious to you?

Finn.

71: Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!

I've never been violent.

72: Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?

That's it. I'm done with these stupid questions.

I write stuff sometimes. I also sometimes make youtube videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/majormarks

I used the Sandbox: Questions For Your Main Character to make sure that I have all of the questions.

Kyle time for some questions.

Why?

For the fun of it.

Let’s just get this over with.

Alright, time fo the first question.

1. How was your life at home?

Well, when I was about two years old I was kidnapped and had experiments done on me to create the first hybrid of a demon and spirit. I was saved, but no one knows how much demon I have in me, so not many people trust me now.

2. What's your main drive in life?

To proof that I’m not a demon and that I can be trusted.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

To classify an entire species as fundamentally anything , is in my opinion just plain stupid.

4. How do you fight?

With my powers, or my sword, whichever is the most effective at the time.

5. Why do you fight?

Too protect other spirits from soul eating demons.

6. What do you fight?

Well, demons.

7. What is your worst fear?

That those experiments turned me into a demon and I’ll one day succumb to the hungry and eat someone’s soul.

8. What is your most treasured material possession?

I’m a spirit, we don’t get to many material possessions, so I’d have to say my sword, since it is my only possession.

9. Who is your closest friend?

I’d have to say Jay. Like me he underwent the experiments that turned me into a spirit demon hybrid, so we both don’t have too many other friends.

10. What is your outlook on love?

Haven’t really had that much time to think about it. I’d have to say it’s important to have someone to love, so you don’t get disconnected from human emotions and have a better chance to become a demon.

11. What is your favorite pastime?

There’s not really much to do in the spirit world, so I normally just train in my spare time, just so I don’t get bored.

12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be.

That’s a strange question, who would want just one facial expression?

13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

The most important thing would be that they weren’t bothered by me being a spirit demon hybrid, but after that they need to be caring and able to fight a demon and not have too much trouble.

14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

There are some demons out there that I thought were going to kill me, but obviously I may it out alive.

15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo? Sleeping gods, talking with ghosts, mildewed old tomes with weird illustrations, that kind of stuff.

I don’t know about sleeping gods and old tomes with weird illustrations, but being a spirit I know that most people can’t talk to spirits.

16. What's your alignment and why?

My alignment is with the spirit warriors, because that was how I was raised.

17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.

Is there a such thing as a perfect world?

18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

Well, a funeral for a spirit would be having our soul be put into the volt, a storage for souls, so that’ll imply that a demon didn’t eat my soul after I died, so I would like them to say that I took the demon that killed me with me.

19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

Running at speeds that human eyes can’t keep up with.

20. What is your favorite vice?

Is sneaking fazing through the walls of a human movie theater and watching the movie for free considered a vice when you’re a spirit and can’t pay?

21. What do you do to relax?

Sometimes I watch human movies, I can’t watch spirit movies. In the spirit world technology doesn’t work.

22. What is your favorite color?

Blue.

23. Who is your worst enemy?

Damain, the one that had the demon do experiments on me.

24. Whom do you most admire?

Jay’s father, the man who saved me and Jay from the demon that was doing experiments on us. He raised me and he seems to be able to stop other spirits from breaking out into fights, not to mention he’s one of the strongest spirits in the spirit world.

25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

Too be a normal spirit.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

It would have to have been a human, spirits don’t have money, no need for it. In that case, even if I wanted to do something with it I won’t be able to tough it.

27.Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

To save, but not to get.

28. What's your worst memory?

Training, do you know how hard it is to train to become a spirit warrior?

29. Are you financially rich or poor?

Too a spirit that means nothing.

30. Who raised you?

I’m sure I answered that already, but if you must hear it again, it was Jay’s father.

31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?

I don’t really have any unique talents, unless you count being a spirit demon hybrid, that would be a curse.

32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

Maybe for a few more people to trust me.

33. How do you deal with failure?

I normally try to find a way to succeed until I either accomplish my goal or realize it’s impossible to succeed. If I realize that it’s impossible to succeed, I would normally try to forget about the whole thing and try something else.

34. Do you have any famous relatives?

I don’t really know my family, so not that I know of.

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

I would say that I’m a spirit, not this Mary Sue thing.

36. How did you get your name?

I think my mother wanted me to have that name, but I don’t know why.

37. What three tropes would give anyone a good idea of what you are?

Our Spirits Are Different

The Ageless

Somthing like an Energy Being

38. What would you sacrifice for your country?

My life.

39. If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?

A normal life, to spirits.

40. When do you feel your best?

While I’m taking down a demon.

41. When was your first kiss? What was it like?

I’m not the type of spirit that most other spirits would want to kiss, so I’ve never had a first kiss.

42. What are your weaknesses?

Weaknesses in the harming me type of way would be a mark on my back the only way to kill me. All spirits and demons have one, so it’s not that unique. Now my weaknesses as a person in general, with the fact that not many people just me, I have a hard time trusting someone that wants to be my friend, until the show me that that’s all they want. I can also be a bit hot head at times, but I try to keep that to a minimal.

43. If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it.

What good would that do?

44. How honest would you say you are, with others and yourself?

I try not to lie, but everyone lies sometimes.

45. Have you ever been discriminated against?

I’m sure that some of my earlier answers answered that question already.

46. Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

To be honest, I don’t see much point in these questions. What are you trying to do any way, get a personnel file on me?

47. What thought keeps you from giving into despair in the darkest of times?

That the friends that I do have would have to pick up my slack if I had a breakdown.

48. What is worth not the risk, but the certain cost of your life?

I already risk my life for my people, so that’ll also be worth the cost of my life as well.

49. What would you compromise your principles for?

Compromising my principles could get me turned into a demon, so nothing.

50. How do you feel about your government.

The government in the spirit world is like all other governments, there loopholes, insufficiencies and all sort of other crap, but no matter what you do, it’ll still have those and so long as it works most of the time it’s okay with me.

51. what are the people you work with like.

There spirits with all kinds of neat powers, that went through training from hell, what do you think.

52. How would your character describe him/herself?

I think that it’s impossible to get a unbiased description from oneself.

53. What would you choose as your last meal and why?

I don’t eat, the only thing that a spirit can eat is a soul nad that’ll turn you into a demon.

54. If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

It would be nice if it was something like, come and get me you monstrous son of a bitch.

55. Would you sacrifice your humanity for your loved ones.

Yes, my new family, but sacrificing my humanity would mean that I turned into a demon, which could put there life’s in danger, so I hope that it’ll never come down to that.

56. When you kill, do you try to justify it?

Why should I?

57. What is your Berserk Button?

Calling me a demi demon.

58. What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?

Eating a soul.

59. What is your age in earth years?

The time that passes in the spirit world and the time that passes in the human world is the same, so sixty six years old.

60. What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?

That she doesn't have that happy of a life and that she really likes Finn.

61. Where do hope to be/what do you hope to be doing in five years?

The same thing that I’m doing now, well not this answering questions, but fighting demons.

62. What was your proudest moment?

When I made it as a spirit warrior.

63. What turns you on sexually?

Don’t you think that that’s a little too personal?

64. Can you sum up your entire worldview in one phrase?

If you can, then it’s not much of a world view, now would it?

65. What's your preferred kind of music.

We don’t really have too much music in the spirit world and in the human world I can’t choose what I listen too.

66. What is your most distinctive feature.

To humans it would be the fact that I’m a spirit, but too other spirits it would be that fact that I’m also part demon as well.

67. '''For those who follow it one very important question: AFL or Rugby League? Which team and why?'''

I don’t know what those sports are, so I’m going to skip that question.

68. What was your relationship with your parents like?

I don’t have a relationship with my real parents, they were killed by a spirit that betrayed them and kidnapped me, but the man who raised me, we get along pretty good. His son is one of my best friend and my team mate as a spirit warrior.

69. Would you ever 'settle down'?

Maybe in a few centuries.

70. What is your most defining skill or skills?

I’m not too bad with a sword.

71. What event or choice brought you to where you are today?

life, it wouldn’t have mattered what happened I would have ended up a spirit warrior no matter what.

72. If you found yourself in some other story, what kind of story would it be and why?

Maybe a horror story, because I deal with monsters on a regular basis.

73. What do you believe to be honor?

Simply, stupid.

74. You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?

When I was kidnapped, then maybe my real parents might still be alive.

75. Who is most precious to you?

Not one person, but my entire new family.

76. Who is the one person from your past you miss most?

I don’t really miss my parents, I don’t really remember them to miss them and everyone else that are my friends I talk to on a near regular basis.

77. Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!

Sometimes.

78. What did you do yesterday?

Just killed some demons.

79. Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?

Somewhere in the middle. Yes bad things happen to me and those around me, but good things happen too.

80. What area do you have the least amount of knowledge in?

Well, I'm a warrior, not a scientist, so most things that deal with science math and what not, but I'm not dumb, I just don't need to know these things being a fighter.

Repost from critique thread

Now Calling: Dispater

1. How was your life at home?

....D....

.....Deliver unto.....

....Unto me...

Deimos: My, my, brother. A Memetim, unable to answer questions of the living?

Phobos: What will they think of next? Gravity that makes a coherent direction of down?

Deimos: In any case, our general here does not remember his life.

Phobos: He is probably grateful for that. To the extent a dead soul turned metaphysical incarnation of the act of dying is capable of gratitude, in any case.

2. What's your main drive in life?

Deimos: Food, and a brief release from the nature of his flesh-life.

Phobos: Not one becomes a Memetim by having a happy one. Or even a melancholic one. Melancholy has beauty in it.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

Deimos: In life, the latter, in all reasonable bets. Not a one could blame him.

Phobos: Now, the former parts just taste exquisite.

4. How do you fight?

Deimos: With the curse scythe we made for him. Though it is a warscythe, so really more of a cutting spear.

Phobos: And the scythe is not pleased, either, but it cannot influence the actions of the unconscious.

5. Why do you fight?

Deimos: Food. Delicious food.

Phobos: For us as well as he.

6. What do you fight?

Deimos: What we deem nutritious.

Phobos: And what will leave good fertilizer.

7. What is your worst fear?

Deimos: Oh, he does not fear.

Phobos: The worst has happened.

8. What is your most treasured material possession?

Deimos: He does not treasure, either.

Phobos: Though we collect.

9. Who is your closest friend?

Deimos: We hate to boast, but he values our company.

Phobos: We would call ourselves "masters", however.

10. What is your outlook on love?

(all three stare blankly, though Dispater was doing that into space already)

11. What is your favorite pastime?

Deimos: Stewing in own misery, we suppose.

Phobos: We can't ask him, after all.

12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be.

Deimos: I would say he already does.

Phobos: The blank stare of utter despondence really has an artistic quality to it, no?

13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

Deimos: If we knew that, we would kill it.

Phobos: For its sake as well as ours.

14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

Deimos: He died drowned in it, we think.

Phobos: Though, is it really trouble if it is all you have known?

15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo?

Deimos: He is undead. Had he a mind, he would be staring at you in disbelief.

Phobos: We possess more nuanced opinions, however.

16. What's your alignment and why?

Deimos: Feh. We would forward an Unknowable category for one such as he.

Phobos: And for us-is it evil if one needs despair to live?

17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.

Deimos: He is here, so it does not exist.

Phobos: Ours would be one where we may feed on all life, not just sapients. More food all around.

18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

Deimos: "He appreciated it."

Phobos: On the other hand, we Outer do not trouble ourselves with lies-dead is dead, and no grave or legacy will change it.

19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

Deimos: The cosmic winds of superspace.

Phobos: Not coincidentally, ours as well.

20. What is your favourite vice?

Deimos: Gluttony. He would swallow a sun if it felt hope.

Phobos: Ours is lust and sensation. There are so many flavors of hopelessness, so little time to choose.

21. What do you do to relax?

....n....o....

...no....weary....nothing.....

.....respite.....

22. What is your favorite color?

Deimos: Well, he is mostly white, so...

Phobos: We like reds, greens, and blues.

23. Who is your worst enemy?

Deimos: Everyone and no one, as death does not play favorites.

Phobos: We are no one's enemy-the farmer does not detest his crop.

24. Whom do you most admire?

(blank stares again).

25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

Deimos: Oblivion.

Phobos: And to leave an endless bounty.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

Deimos: He would do nothing.

Phobos: And we would see if we hadn't collected an item of that set already.

27. Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

Deimos: ...what life? Honestly, his new existence would have been annihilate already were it not for us.

Phobos: We will do everything in our power to secure a crop.

28. What's your worst memory?

Deimos: He does not remember.

Phobos: If he did, he could not choose.

29. Are you financially rich or poor?

Deimos: Irrelevant.

Phobos: He was rich in coin once, but that is gone.

30. Who raised you?

Deimos: One of the mysteries.

Phobos: Were they psychotically abusive, were they dead, or both? Or did something else lead him to the tearing of the Pale?

31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?

Deimos: He is unique as any other Memetim, with special abilities revolving around gravity. Were he conscious, they would probably be a blessing in comparison.

Phobos: We, on the other hand, are unique in only personality-controlling a Memetim is difficult, but any Outer can learn it.

32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

Deimos: Ending existence for him.

Phobos: Full bellies for us.

33. How do you deal with failure?

Deimos: I don't think he cares either way, does he, brother?

Phobos: I would agree there. We just learn from our mistakes.

34. Do you have any famous relatives?

Deimos: That would be comforting, yes? Believing a Memetim was special in some way in life?

Phobos: Perhaps he was, and despair was born from disappointment?

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

Deimos: Wonder exactly what the insulter was smoking. Mindless monster, remember?

Phobos: We would be a little more responsive.

36. How did you get your name?

Deimos: Applied by those who fought him.

Phobos: Us as well. We Outer have names humans cannot comprehend.

37. What three tropes would give anyone a good idea of what you are?

Deimos: Perhaps shared among us, brother?

Phobos: I could not agree more.

  • Emotion Eater: Deimos: He devours hope, trying to have the sensation he never felt in life.

Phobos: We feed on the resonance of despair left behind.

  • Faux Affably Evil: Deimos: We are told that our banality towards the crop is frightening.

Phobos: From the crop's point of view, we are.

  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: Deimos: As with all Memetim. They are formed when a soul cannot cross the Veil to what lies beyond, but not because they possessed a purpose not to. Rather, they had no hope to guide them across, not one memory of happiness left uncorrupted by awfulness.

Phobos: And yet, he had a strong enough will to swim against the current. Tragic, really. Tragic, but useful.

38: What would you sacrifice for your country?

Deimos: A foolish question. He has no allegiance but that who can control him.

Phobos: We Outer do not have countries either. In fact, we're quite isolationist much of the time. Nonetheless, if there is a large enough bounty, we do not fight over it.

39: If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?

Deimos: The ability to feel hope, we suspect.

Phobos: For us? A way to induce large-scale despair without causing the crop's destruction. That would make things far, far less difficult.

40: When do you feel your best?

Deimos: After a good meal.

Phobos: For all involved.

41: When was your first kiss?

...gone....

.....do not take....

42: What are your weaknesses?

Deimos: For one, he is very dim by human standards, and typical wards and banes of the undead drive him off.

Phobos: We are also quite physically weak, and have a hard time remaining in lower space for long periods.

44: How honest are you?

Deimos: Well, none of us can lie. He lost that ability, and Outer is based on concepts and thoughtforms, which cannot be faked.

Phobos: But make no mistake. We do know how to not speak truth at all, and to selectively reveal it to cause the most potent despair.

45: Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

Deimos: The trope list.

Phobos: It was nice being able to explain ourselves.

46: Have you ever been discriminated against?

Deimos: ...Explain the meaning.

Phobos: We might be able to use it.

47: How do you feel about your government?

Deimos: Again-no conscious mind, no culture.

Phobos: The closest we get is the chain of dominance.

48: What are the people you work with like?

...all lost....

....gold devours....

49: If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

Deimos: "Thank you", perhaps?

Phobos: We do not bother with such things.

50: What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?

Deimos: Does it matter? He cannot make those moral decisions.

Phobos: By human standards, it's more of a landmark we pass on the daily commute to us.

51: Describe yourself.

...hollow....hungry....

Deimos and Phobos: Farmers of despair.

52: What would your last meal be?

Deimos: ...That is a rather pointless question. He eats hope, his last meal would be his executioner's relief.

Phobos: A juicy, succulent suicide pact would be nice for us.

53: Would you sacrifice your humanity for your loved ones?

(Blank Stare 3: Return of the Dude What?)

54: When you kill a man, do you ever try to justify your actions?

Deimos: I do not believe he cares.

Phobos: And death is simply the result of we trying too hard. Or as part of a plan to engender despair.

55: What is your berserk button?

Deimos: Riches seem to draw his attention more than anything. We do not know why.

Phobos: We do not like starvation.

56: What is your age in earth years?

Deimos: Well, he has been a Memetim for a decade.

Phobos: We would suspect that we have lived for sixty cycles of your planet.

57: What was your relationship with your parents like?

Deimos: Review question 30.

Phobos: And we Outer reproduce through shedding planula, so we raised each other-two from the same polyp.

58: What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?

Deimos: Hm. Brother, I do believe we have a dinner guest. One who may stay a while in superspace.

Phobos: But where are our manners? We need to give him proper welcoming first. Possibly an appetizer as well. What say you, Dispater?

...Much hope...

....much mutation...

...much to punish...

Let's ask Trevor about his life. I hope you're not easily offended. As in, this is pretty not safe for work.

How was your life at home?

Stank. Like. Piss. If you think an orbital hab is rusty, I hate you. Planetside on Jotunheim is a fucking joke.

What's your main drive in life?

Credits and rep. And the occasional revenge.

Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

Okay, why the fuck haven't we gotten over the whole "are we good or evil" shit? We've answered that debate long ago. We're all cunts, get over it.

How do you fight?

With a gun. If it's a fair fight, then I fucked up.

Why do you fight?

Because the other sod shot me first.

What do you fight?

Dipshits with more backups than brains.

What is your worst fear?

Getting replaced by a fucking A.I.

What is your most treasured material possession?

A treasured material- What the fuck are we, four years old?

Who is your closest friend?

I believe in keeping my friends close and my enemies closer, and I don't let a single one of those fuckers in fucking arm's reach. Do the math.

What is your outlook on love?

Why fucking bother?

What is your favorite pastime?

Drinking so I can forget I'm surrounded in fucking idiots.

If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be.

What the fuck? You do realize we're immortal, right?

Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

This again? Once you live a few decades with a Kovac in your skull, you realize one thing about love. It's a chemical reaction for fucking and making more fuckers. Once everyone's immortal, then the last thing we need is more fuckers.

Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

Yeah. It's called my fucking job.

Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo? Sleeping gods, talking with ghosts, mildewed old tomes with weird illustrations, that kind of stuff.

Some cogmodder once said any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from occult bullshit. Sentient dyson spheres, utility fog, A.I. demigods, anything fucking goes.

What's your alignment and why?

Chaotic neutral. The reason I'm getting paid is because transhumanity is rotten to the core. I fucking eat entropy.

Describe your idea of a perfect world.

Whatever it is, I can't afford it.

What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

May he rest in peace. Oh, that's right. He's fucking immortal. Fuck.

What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

Infocasting. I am up to fucking here with space travel.

What is your favorite vice?

Do I have to chose only one?

What do you do to relax?

See above.

What is your favorite color?

I like variety when it comes to colors. I'm fucking sick of white walls. Fucking spacers.

Who is your worst enemy?

Here's how it is. Most of my work comes from one paranoid fuck or another who thinks is significant other is cheating on im. One of them wanted me to investigate a woman he never even met. Thinks he has an inherent right to her or something. Real scumbag, but he had more chits than my average client. I wasn't complaining. I went through the usual procedure, that is until the girl I'm investigating buys me a drink. We talk, I walk her home, nothing happened.

I pass out in my office and wake up to that fucking scumbag bashing my door down. He thinks I fucked "his" girl and shoots me a few times. I pick up my flecher and pump him full of grey goo. I chase him through half the arco, both of us full of bullets and goo. He 'casts out before the swarm could lock him into his bioshell. I limp back to my office to find it got disassembled by a nanoswarm of his. His goons show up and beat me to death. End of fucking story? Nope. Someone called in a drone strike and pulled my body out. After getting uploaded onto a new body, I find out someone wants that scumbag dead. A lot of shit is going to hit a lot of fans. I just know it.

Whom do you most admire?

Admiration's a bitch. The day will come when you meet your idol and e treats you like shit. I avoided this by assuming they're all walking sacks of shit.

If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

To not have to answer to anyone anymore.

If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

Take it to a chit doctor. Otherwise, anyone can trace it back to you. Only a fucking idiot would pick up illicit money that hasn't been doc'd.

Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

In this day and age, I would risk my like for a fucking Klondike bar. I'll just get uploaded onto the Neuro Net anyway.

What's your worst memory?

Dying for the first time. How would you feel if you fell onto a rusty fucking pipe and got impaled? Not very well, I assume.

Are you financially rich or poor?

I get paid well, but I've got a higher living expense on account of dying every few years. Most of it is from repairing my working bioshell. Sometimes I've got to fix my casual shell after ODing on something.

Who raised you?

Not who, but what. No one has time to raise a kid, so they get A.I.s to do it.

Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?

I say I'm rather well-rounded. Others say I'm really good at dying. I don't know if they mean I don't suffer the usual emotional trauma associated with getting your head turned to pink mist, or if they think I die a lot.

What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

I don't know because I don't know what a happy life's supposed to look like. Don't look at me like that, you gobshite.

How do you deal with failure?

I brace for fucking impact. If I learned anything from my profession, it's that the punishment doesn't end once you die.

Do you have any famous relatives?

Fuck no. Next question.

What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

"Fuck off."

How did you get your name?

I made it up. I thought it was a good detective name.

What three tropes would give anyone a good idea of what you are?

Cluster F-Bomb, Hardboiled Detective, Jerk with a Heart of Jerk, in that order.

What would you sacrifice for your country?

Absolutely fuckall.

If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?

A mansion on Athena and a nice boat.

When do you feel your best?

When something is going according to plan, immediately before I realize everything's about to go tits-up.

When was your first kiss? What was it like?

I don't remember stupid shit like that.

What are your weaknesses?

That I'm a foul-mouthed, irritable, unlikable cunt who can't keep his mouth shut and keeps dying as a result.

If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it.

Which one, Jotunheim? I'd move it to the Olympus system, give it nothing but tropical beaches, restrict the population to bioshells I want to see naked and ban all that shit modern fucking music.

How honest would you say you are, with others and yourself?

I'm as honest as I need to be. Which means not fucking much.

Have you ever been discriminated against

Dirtman, Planetsider, The Thing From Yggdrasil, I've heard them all.

Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

The one about my enemy.

What thought keeps you from giving into despair in the darkest of times?

That I'm not getting paid to brood.

What would you compromise your principles for?

If it means killing Mr. Scumbag, I might do it. I'm a little fucking cross at the moment, so don't test me.

How do you feel about your government.

Crooks and liars running the jailhouse. What else is new?

what are the people you work with like.

Fucking weird. I was saddled with an alien Japanophile, an uplifted octopus who acts like a stuffy Mormon from space Wisconsin, and a venerable combat A.I. uploaded onto the body of a 12 year old girl. I bet someone's secretly filming this whole shitstorm.

How would your character describe him/herself?

The person your parents warned you about.

What would you choose as your last meal and why?

A steak pulled from a real cow, laced with nanotoxins that will kill me before they get to.

If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

Now, we are fucked.

Would you sacrafice your humanity for your loved ones.

I already sacrificed my humanity because I thought it was a good idea.

When you kill, do you try to justify it?

Those fuckers had it coming.

What is your Berserk Button?

Fucking with me.

What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon

Something getting in the way of my roaring rampage of revenge.

What is your age in earth years?

37 realspace, 49 virch.

What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?

Well, don't they seem like a bunch of fucking outstanding citizens, what with the devouring hope and all?

Where do hope to be/what do you hope to be doing in five years?

Living on Athena, not having to answer to anyone.

What was your proudest moment?

My first case not involving cheating significant others.

What turns you on sexually?

Having sex. Can I go now?

Can you sum up your entire worldview in one phrase?

Fuck.

What's your preferred kind of music.

Anything vaguely resembling music. That doesn't include the new shit.

What is your most distinctive feature.

My constant stream of naughty words.

For those who follow it one very important question: AFL or Rugby League? Which team and why?

Fuck it. I'm tired of these stupid fucking questions. Get me the fuck out of here! What, how many questions left? Fine. Fucking spacers.

What was your relationship with your parents like?

Nonexistent. I was probably a clone of someone who got too busy to care.

Would you ever 'settle down'?

Sure, if I didn't have to do a fucking thing for the rest of my life.

What is your most defining skill or skills?

I'm a pretty good detective. Not good enough to avoid dying a few times, but good enough.

What event or choice brought you to where you are today.

Some scumbag grey goo'd my office and hired thugs to kill me. Now someone's paying me to kill him. Permanently.

If you found yourself in some other story, what kind of story would it be and why?

An old detective story, or maybe a Guy Richie film.

What do you believe to be honour.

The thing that separates me from shitheads like Mr. Scumbag.

You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?

I would've shot Mr. Scumbag while I had the fucking chance.

Who is most precious to you?

Currently, whoever wants Mr. Scumbag dead enough to rez me. If he dies too much, he's not paying me.

Who is the one person from your past you miss most

The woman Mr. Scumbag was hunting peaked my interests. Yet I have a feeling she's going to end up involved in this debacle soon enough.

Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!

I love making dumb fucks die. I just don't like it when they do it to me.

What did you do yesterday?

Sat in a tube in a ship heading for Asgard.

Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?

I'll give you three fucking guesses.

The abridged interview can be seen here. (NSFW)

Now answering is Averice, a typical bird man who is one of Vlenn's current companions.

1. How was your life at home?

Lousy. Loud, dirty, stinky, I hated it. There was never enough to eat, and somebody was always ready to snatch what you did have. And the screeching! There was always some idiot screeching at somebody or another for no dragon blasted reason. It was impossible to get a decent night’s sleep.

2. What's your main drive in life?

Keeping myself fat and free.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

Fundamentally stupid, that’s what I think. I think the lot of them are jealous they don’t have wings. Can’t say I blame them.

4. How do you fight?

With my talons and beak. They’re sharp as any dagger you wingless ones can forge.

5. Why do you fight?

Usually because some dragon blasted fools trying to steal my food. That or they think I look like food myself.

6. What do you fight?

Anything that messes with me I think I can beat. Otherwise, what’s the point?

7. What is your worst fear?

That I’ll lose my wings and have to spend the rest of my days crawling on the ground, like the wretched wingless ones.

8. What is your most treasured material possession?

Well, I am partial to this cloak I suppose. Keeps me warm, but I wouldn’t shed any tears if I lost it.

9. Who is your closest friend?

I’d say Vlenn. For a wingless one she’s got a great deal of sense. Not that that’s saying much, mind you, but she’s got a knack for finding food, so we make a good team.

10. What is your outlook on love?

Love is a wingless delusion. It’s all a trick those dull feathered female schemers pull to make you share your food with them.

11. What is your favorite pastime?

Flying. Not for hunting or scouting or anything, just flying for the sake of feeling the sun on my feathers and watching the wingless ones crawl along beneath me.

12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be?

What a stupid question! Why would I care? I’d never see it.

13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

Why would I want to take a mate? Then I’d have to build a nest, and help her protect it, and before you know it we’d have a bunch of greedy little bastards to feed. No thank you!

14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

I was born neck deep in trouble. The worst I’d say was that time I stopped to hunt that black cat. How was I supposed to know it was a shira witch in disguise? Next thing I knew I was in a cage, and she was cackling about using my entrails to read a young man’s fortune. If it weren’t for Vlenn and Saddowsai, I’d have been finished.

15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo?

Eh, I think it’s mostly wingless trickery and empty squawking. But I know that shiroean magic is real, and that’s more than enough for me!

16. What's your alignment and why?

I don’t owe anybody anything.

17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.

One filled with tall cliffs and trees, with oceans and fields overflowing with fat rodents and lazy fish. No cities, no people, no other birds, just fields of food, a breeze to drift on, and the sun to keep my wings warm.

18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

Impression? I want people to think I was the fastest bird man they ever saw. I want them to shake their fists and curse the fact that they could never catch me. I don’t give a rat’s tail what they say at my funeral. Who cares? I won’t be there.

19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

My own two wings. But if we’re talking the sorts of things those wingless ones build, then I like ships, especially the sorts with masts. They’re like floating perches! Not only that, but you’re surrounded by fresh fish.

20. What is your favorite vice?

Well, I guess since you wingless ones are always talking about eating as though it were a crime, then that. Personally, I think all ‘vices’ are just talents others are jealous of.

21. What do you do to relax?

Drift along and look for something easy to catch and eat. Otherwise I’ll sun my wings.

22. What is your favorite color?

Whatever color my feathers are. I think Vlenn called them ‘blueish grey’.

23. Who is your worst enemy?

Worst enemy? Haven’t got any. I try not to stick around when I’ve annoyed people. I suppose it would be Saddowsai. She isn’t fond of me, and believe me, the feeling is mutual. I think she’s jealous of my wings.

24. Whom do you most admire?

Who is there to admire? You wingless ones are stupid at best and dangerous at worst, and all other bird men are loud and greedy. If anything, they should all admire me.

25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

Waterproof feathers. Nothing’s worse than being forced to land because your wings are waterlogged.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

Take it and fly off! If I know anything about wingless ones, it’s that they love stuff that’s useless and shiny, so having a bit of money around could be handy.

27. Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

Sure, food! No use waiting around to starve.

28. What's your worst memory?

Sitting in my own filth back in the nest, trying to get some sleep while all the other idiots are screeching and fighting, and being hungry on top of it all!

29. Are you financially rich or poor?

What a wingless question! Poor, I suppose, but I don’t have much use for money anyway.

30. Who raised you?

My brother. What an idiot! He was an odd egg, let me tell you. He was born with the strongest set of wings in our entire aerie, but for some reason he acted like a she-bird! He covered his wings with mud and dirt so they’d be brown like the other females. Then he started clucking about and waiting for the others to make a nest for him. Of course they wouldn’t have that! They chased him away. So what did the idiot do? He made a nest for himself! He built it all on his own then just sat in it, as though expecting to lay his own eggs!

Of course he couldn’t, so he went ahead and did the next best thing. He went from nest to nest and stole late born hatchlings. That’s how he found me. I couldn’t make it out of my egg, you see, and my brothers and sisters, the greedy bastards, had pushed me out of the nest so they could have more food. Anyway, my brother jumped in and took me to his nest and then raised me like his own. A few years later he stole another hatchling, my sister. Raised us both. Don’t know why the dope felt like he should do it, but I wouldn’t be alive without him.

31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?

Talents? Well, flying is certainly a talent of mine. Not just that I can do it- any mangy pigeon can fly!- but I’m good at it. The best. Even when I was with my brother and sister, they knew it. My sister was the smartest, my brother the strongest but me? The best flyer. Why would it ever be a curse?

32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

Plenty of delicious animals to hunt.

33. How do you deal with failure?

I get out of there as quick as I can. No use trying to save a lost cause, fly away and try again another day.

34. Do you have any famous relatives?

I don’t even know who my relatives are. We bird men don’t waste time remembering stuff our long-dead ancestors did. That’s what you wingless ones specialize in.

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

Saying who in the what now?

36. How did you get your name?

My brother gave it to me, I guess. I think he thought it sounded impressive or something. He was odd, that one.

37. What would you sacrifice for your country?

Nothing, even if I had a country. Who wants to lose anything for a stinking piece of land or family of nobles?

38. If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?

A dead whale. I found one on a beach once… I didn’t have to hunt for food for a whole month! It only tasted ok, but it attracted whole armies of delicious crabs and smaller birds! Or perhaps two dead whales…

39. When do you feel your best?

When I’m flying high in the sky, and I can look down and see some wingless ones beneath me, walking. Especially when I know that they can see me.

40. When was your first kiss? What was it like?

  • Clacks beak* “When was your first kiss?” Don’t be an idiot.

41. What are your weaknesses?

Well, I hate flying in the rain. It gets my wings wet, and makes them so heavy I can barely lift them. Also arrows. Never mess with human archers, that’s what I’ve learned. They’re uncanny with those things.

42. If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it?

Why would I want to? The world’s already set up so those of us with wings come out on top. No need to improve a good situation.

43. How honest would you say you are, with others and yourself?

Honesty? Sounds like a wingless notion. I’m honest when it won’t get me killed, and otherwise I’ll say what I please.

44. Have you ever been discriminated against?

Well, we bird folk aren’t exactly popular for some reason. I’ve been chased from my share of villages, stones thrown at me, stuff like that. Just jealous I suppose.

45. Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

The one about my talents. It’s always nice to remember.

46. What thought keeps you from giving into despair in the darkest of times?

That I can just spread my wings and fly away from this mess if it ever gets too bad. I keep reminding Vlenn and Saddowsai, but they never seem to take the hint.

47. What is worth not the risk, but the certain cost of your life?

Nothing I can think of.

48. What would you compromise your principles for?

Again, I leave principles to the wingless ones. You mean, what would I give up food for? My life I suppose. If I had to pick, being alive and hungry is typically better than being dead and … well. Probably still hungry.

49. How do you feel about your government?

Don’t have one. I dwell in the Twelve Kingdoms though. It’s filled with wingless, nothing special. They all follow silly laws and run around scratching food from the earth. Sometimes they put out bounties for beast folk like me, so they’re more a bother than not.

50. What are the people you work with like?

Vlenn’s all right, for a wingless one. She let me out of the witch’s cage, after all. Not only that but she’s pretty smart. She knows how to get food and avoid danger. She’s got some stupid notions though, like most wingless ones. She seems to have something against stealing, at least usually, which is just plain foolish. She says she’s on some sort of journey, and I’m just along for the ride. The place is supposed to be a center of riches and wealth so there’s bound to be scraps for a bird like me.

As for Saddowsai, well, she’s as pleasant as a cold gust on a stormy night. Always quiet and sulking in the darkness, sharpening her knives and glaring at you if you so much as breath too loudly. When she speaks it’s not reassuring either. If she’s not telling you to shut up, she’s reminding us about how easy it is to die, or something equally cheerful. She’s a shiroean, in case you couldn’t guess. Vlenn thinks she’s all right, but if I had a choice I’d leave her behind. Nothing good comes with meddling with their kind, they’ve got magic in their veins. Scary magic.

51. How would your character describe him/herself?

A creature with brilliant plumage, and a magnificent wingspan, fish catcher and sheep snatcher extraordinaire.

52. What would you choose as your last meal and why?

Fish. A whole pile of fresh fish, live and flopping. None of that wingless cooking ruining their flavors.

53. If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

An earsplitting warscreech. I’d make whoever got me go deaf if I could. If I could gouge out their eyes too, I’d do that as well.

54. Would you sacrifice your humanity for your loved ones.

Can’t sacrifice what you don’t have. Especially not to save something you don’t have.

55. When you kill, do you try to justify it?

Why bother? I was either hungry, or they started it!

56. What is your Berserk Button?

I don’t like it when people steal what’s mine. Touch it and I’ll take a finger as recompense.

57. What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?

Drive over a what? I don’t think us beast folk have those.

58. What is your age in earth years?

Who knows? We bird men don’t waste our precious days counting the stars or watching the sun. How do you know some years aren’t a little longer than others anyway? You can’t control the winds or the rain, who’s to say the stars are any more reliable? There’s no way to be sure. Better to just enjoy life as you have it.

59. What is your impression of the above character, based on their responses?

Eh, typical wingless one. Just a speck on the ground as far as I’m concerned.

60. Where do hope to be/what do you hope to be doing in five years?

Flying, or eating something delicious.

61. What was your proudest moment?

Once, after I finally left my nest and lost my brother and sister, I was taken on by a group of wingless ones as a look out and scout. They were pirates of some sort I think. Anyway, they didn’t plan accordingly and ran out of food in the middle of the sea. They weren’t any good at fishing, so they decided that I would make a good meal. The idiots forgot I could fly! Watching their faces as I flew away was the best I’ve ever felt. Greedy bastards. Hope they ate each other.

62. What turns you on sexually?

I told you before, I don’t fall for the whole nut brown plumage and soft warbling tricks.

63. Can you sum up your entire worldview in one phrase?

Sure, those who fly look down on those who can’t.

64. What's your preferred kind of music?

My own. None of that wingless groaning or twanging for me, thanks.

65. What is your most distinctive feature?

My magnificent plumage. Don’t think I’ve ever met another bird man with quite the same color.

66. What was your relationship with your parents like?

Brief. They laid my egg and left me to my siblings. If it hadn’t been for my idiot brother I’d have been pecked to death and eaten.

As for my brother, well, he was a bit dim, but very strong. He looked out for my sister and I as though we were his own hatchlings. Tried to keep us fed, but we usually went to sleep hungry. When we were old enough to fly he took us out of that filth encrusted place. I don’t know if I’ll ever understand what possessed him to risk his life for us like that, but I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for him, so he was all right by my sight.

67. Would you ever 'settle down'?

What a wingless thing to ask. Not unless all the food vanished everywhere else in the world.

68. What is your most defining skill or skills?

My flight, for sure. I’ve not met another being who can fly as fast as I.

69. What event or choice brought you to where you are today?

Going after a boar that was hanging from a tree. My sister was right, it had no business being there. Not like I had a choice though, we hadn’t had anything to eat for a whole day! Well, turns out some unusually clever wingless one had set it up as a trap. Next thing I know arrows and nets are flying our way. I only just got away. Not sure what happened to my brother or sister. I’d probably still be with them if it weren’t for that.

70. If you found yourself in some other story, what kind of story would it be and why?

I’d be in one of those ballads, the kind wingless ones tell each other. They’d talk about how they never caught me, and how I stole fifty sheep every year.

71. What do you believe to be honour?

Just some wingless word. I think it means risking your life for another being, or something stupid like that.

72. You have to change one major event in your past. What do you pick and why?

Probably would never have taken the bait all those years ago. I knew it smelled weird and my sister said not to touch it. Really should have listened to her.

73. Who is most precious to you?

Vlenn I suppose. She freed me from a cage and we help each other stay fed. She’s not half as clever as my sister was, but for a wingless one she’s decent company.

74. Who is the one person from your past you miss most?

My brother, I guess. He was big and strong and didn’t mind doing his fair share of the work, while Vlenn and Saddowsai expect me to do all the scouting and searching for them. Wouldn’t mind having my sister around again either. She was greedy and snappish, but at least she understood what it was like to fly.

75. Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!

Of course! Nothing feels better than snapping up some furry little morsel in your claws.

76. What did you do yesterday?

I flew in circles, scouting about for the next village. While I was at it I caught us a pair of rabbits for dinner. Honestly, I don’t know what those wingless ones would do if it weren’t for me. We’re heading north, which I’m not too happy about, but I’ve survived winters before.

77. Where on the scale of idealism and cynicism do you stand?

Another lot of wingless notions. I’ll perch wherever it’s most comfortable.

Nobody wants to be a pawn in the game of life. What they don't realize is the game of life is Minesweeper.

Yet another from the Critiques thread.

Now interviewing: Dagrun Birnasdottir (same setting and team as Raziel)

1. How was your life at home?

Ain't you have a Proud Warrior Race Guy page? Imagine a Battle Couple of 'em with a trio of kids learnin' the trade and you got the idea.

2. What's your main drive in life?

Live fast, die old despite the best efforts of my enemies, leave a lovely legacy for my kin.

3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?

It's warlike. Ain't sayin' if that's a good or bad thing.

4. How do you fight?

Lead from the front, but have the advantage first. All the honor in the world won't help if ya lost or death makes an overall loss for your side.

5. Why do you fight?

They had somethin' the Malandanti wanted, they had somethin' I wanted, braggin' rights, a bet...I like it.

6. What do you fight?

See the sorcerer's answer. I fight anythin', so long as I keep a pillager's fee or it helps my kin and buddies.

7. What is your worst fear?

Dyin' a loser's death.

8. What is your most treasured material possession?

My grandad's curse spear. Both because he was my favorite relative and it's a damn useful weapon.

9. Who is your closest friend?

That depends. You want my closest kin, that would be my friendly neighborhood rune engineer, Waylan. Ya want the closest fist, that'd be my familiar, Melech, as I need him to fight.

10. What is your outlook on love?

It happens to the best of us. Ya out fightin' with your buddy of your preferred gender at one moment, yer screwin' in the cockpit of the standin' familiar the next, then you're fightin' to protect him rather than your kin in general...

11. What is your favorite pastime?

If I ain't fightin' I'm trainin'. If I ain't trainin, I'm...playin' an RTS. What, I'm a warrior, not a machine.

12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be.

Glee. It tends to intimidate the enemy.

13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.

The kind of person that would make the idea of screwin' in the cockpit the next minute seem like a good idea, and safely away from my unit in war. Knowin' just how easily a battle becomes a bond between fists, I ain't countin' on that last part.

14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?

Yeah. Depedin' on the situation, it's called "bad tactics", or "an ambush". It may also be called "fun", but that implies a good chance of winnin' and losin'.

15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo?

Course I do. Magic from Technology my foot, there's strange and beautiful things out there. Great rivals.

16. What's your alignment and why?

Eh, Chaotic Evil, maybe. I value my freedom, and accordin' to those Confed idiots, I'm evil because of it. I also don't really mind killin', it's part of the battle.

17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.

A world where you could always live to fight another day.

18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?

Either "Dagrun: Died of old age, never retired", or "Dagrun: Died in total victory".

19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?

Tanks, thanks.

20. What is your favourite vice?

Greed. Both for money and the junk I don't use but buy anyway because I think it looks nice.

21. What do you do to relax?

RTS games, as I said earlier.

22. What is your favorite color?

Red and gold tie for me.

23. Who is your worst enemy?

The Confederation of Light. The Con, more like-foolin' people into believin' fascism is a good plan, 24/7.

24. Whom do you most admire?

The Benandanti, the Malandanti's ancestors. Not only did they die for what they believed in, they died in victory, ensurin' their ideals lived on. I hope I'm as victorious one day.

25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?

Freein' my people from havin' to fight the Confeds for land and resources all the time. Which probably means we'd own their territory, but they'd also be gone for good. That'd be nice.

26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?

Mine!

27. Is there anything you would risk your life to get?

There's a reason it's called death in victory...

28. What's your worst memory?

Bein' captured by Confed, and I quote, "counselors". If I didn't hate them before then...

29. Are you financially rich or poor?

Varies on how the jobs are goin' but I'm financially stable.

30. Who raised you?

A pair of mutant, no-good, dirty, and heretical barbarians. By the imprisoned, I love them.

31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?

I'm as unique as any other Kergen Daeva Clansman who has the right to call herself "champ"-I'm skilled in my field of ambush warfare and I'm one of the best witch-pilots you'll ever meet. Course it's a blessin' I worked my ass off for it.

32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?

A home that I don't need to move too often, and a good fight now and again, with opportunities to sleep. I'm livin' the dream right now.

33. How do you deal with failure?

If I'm alive, means it wasn't that bad.

34. Do you have any famous relatives?

Oh, yes! My kin are the greatest-oh, ya mean direct relatives. Unless you count "someone who married cross-clan", nope.

35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?

Oh. I'm perfect, am I? Could ya think of a more intimidating name?

36. How did you get your name?

Born with it, inherited my higher-ranking parent's name as surname.

37. What three tropes would give anyone a good idea of what you are?

Hm.

Blood Knight (der).

Combat Pragmatist (deeeer).

Noble Demon(make no bones about what I am, don't like hurtin' civvies or destroyin' homes)

38: What would you sacrifice for your country?

Death in victory. Everythin' for the Fen or Tumuji, or our allies and clients.

39: If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?

A nice solar system where the planets are large and mostly inhabitable. My clan-kin would like that.

40: When do you feel your best?

After winnin' a tough battle with rewards to match.

41: When was your first kiss?

I was drunk at the time, I think. My first remembered kiss was a Zla shaman, saved my ass durin' a trainin' mission. Not romantic.

42: What are your weaknesses?

Don't have magic worth a damn-I even got someone else to bind Melech. Thus, no backup demons, no easy reinforcements-just my fist.

43: If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it?

Eh...My image wouldn't be for everyone. I'll pass.

44: How honest are you?

Lyin's too much of a hassle. I'm blunt about it.

45: Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?

Unique skills, it gets clients.

46: Have you ever been discriminated against?

By the Kergen? Long ago, for bein' mixed-clan; my two halves are rivals. Learned to be the snot out of people, got better.

47: How do you feel about your government?

We Kergen aren't a government, per say...but we're happy with what we got. Rovin' tribes of transhuman mercenaries ain't lookin' for authority, only cash and borrowed land. And settlin' grudges.

48: If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?

"Just as planned..."

49: What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?

Really good pay, if clans were starvin' for it, and it was against Con.

50. How would your character describe him/herself?

Wanderin' warrior, lookin' for revenge and for glory.

51. What would you choose as your last meal and why?

A roast boar. I've heard good things about 'em.

52: Would you sacrifice your humanity in order to save the ones you love?

What humanity? We Kergen left that behind a long time ago! Thank ya, sorcerous genetics.

53: When you kill a man, do you ever try to justify your actions?

It's war, he was a soldier, he died honorably. Dwellin' on it is a good way to break the anti-PTSD gene.

54: What is your Berserk Button?

Kinslayin'. Other reason I have a grudge against the Con.

55: What is your age in Earth Years?

...carry the five...32, I'm guessin'.

56. What are the people you work with like?

Raziel an' the puffed-up idi-er, Vetala? Raziel's a great home leader, even if I ain't ken on that odd Titan cult he's a part of. Baron Vetala, on the other? Imagine everythin' wrong with academic arrogance an' add ego about him bein' the top witch-pilot in the team, and you've got my view. He's brilliant an' brave, but he's got an ego large enough to put most suns ta shame.

57. What turns you on sexually?

Remember what I say about love? Yep, to me, a friendly match with someone I like makes me want to see if they're that feisty in th' sack. Same with most Kergen warriors, it's part of the genetic package deal.

58. Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!

If I need to answer that, I'm wonderin' why I was botherin' to talk to you.

59. What do you believe to be honour?

Winnin', with as little of a casualty-to-gain ratio as possible. Behavior off the fight matters too, but that's bein' polite, not honorable.

60. What is your impression of the above character based on their responses?

...I have met someone worse than the Baron. What is wrong with you, and where can I best slap ya upside the pride?

And a month later, somebody else finds the thread.

These are questions for my Na No protagonist, Fess Shelley.

1. How was your life at home?
Weren’t too bad. Mam and dad kept me fed an’ educated, so that was never a worry. The whole clan made sure the kids were looked after and once I hit around 14 I helped out with that too, little brats made me feel sorry for the folks that’d had to put up with me. But yeah, busy and friendly is the way I’d put it. Or that’s how it was, anyway.
2. What's your main drive in life?
As in short term goals like or my purpose? Because I don’t think I’m quite ready to declare a purpose.
3. Do you believe that human nature is fundamentally good or fundamentally evil?
Can I be clever and say it’s fundamentally human?
4. How do you fight?
I try not to, honest. Someone takes a swing at me, I’ll return it sure but runnin’s always a good plan. Heh, if folk happen to get in Luath’s way when I’m runnin’, that’s a different matter.
5. Why do you fight?
Someone in the clan needs help, maybe? Or I would have said that a few months back. Currently, I don’t think I’d fight at all.
6. What do you fight?
You sure like askin’ about violence, buddy.
7. What is your worst fear?
Losing everyone.
8. What is your most treasured material possession?
Luath’s more than just a possession. He’s a friend. So I’d have to say my tools.
9. Who is your closest friend?
Easy, see above. Me and Luath have kept each other runnin’ since I was ten.
10. What is your outlook on love?
Grandma always said it was a beautiful, terrible thing. I’m not sure I could put it better.
11. What is your favorite pastime?
Oh, easy one. Nothing better than taking machinery apart and puttin’ it back together better. Give me an old rusted car, I’m happy for the rest of the day.
12. If you could have one facial expression for the rest of your life, what would it be.
That’s a dumb question.
13. Describe your ideal love interest, or explain your lack of interest.
Hmm. It’d have to be someone good with their hands. Not like that, I can see you smirkin’. Someone that can do stuff, useless people tick me off. Other than that? I guess humour’s always nice. Look, I don’t dwell on the subject okay?
14. Have you ever thought you were neck-deep in trouble?
Pretty much for the last month or so, yeah.
15. Do you believe in all that occult mumbo-jumbo?
Well I dunno. It all makes sense, dunnit? I’m not saying I believe in men that can become monsters or a race o’ one-eyed fish people but you hear some wild stories from off plate.
16. What's your alignment and why?
The hell’s an alignment? I ride alone, ain’t aligned to anybody.
17. Describe your idea of a perfect world.
I think one where the engines never run smooth 'til they let me at 'em. One where mam and dad didn’t start fighting.
18. What sort of impression do you want to leave as a person? What would you like for people to say about you at your funeral?
Hey, hey, hey. I don’t aim to die for a long time, once I do I reckon folks can figure it out themselves. As for impressions? I dunno, depends on who you are I guess. I like to think I’m approachable.
19. What is your preferred type of long-range transportation?
You cannot get better than Luath. Six-wheeled all terrain buggy at your service. Fastest thing I ever seen. I oughta know; I helped build him.
20. What is your favourite vice?
Well a table vice is pretty portable, so there’s that - oh, like drugs and stuff? Er… whiskey? Totally whiskey. I love whiskey and drink it all the time.
21. What do you do to relax?
If it’s not tinkering, it’ll be swapping stories. You hear some fantastic things on the move. If there’s radio in the nearby area lookin’ for nice music is always good.
22. What is your favorite color?
Amber? Izzat a colour? I got an amber pendant.
23. Who is your worst enemy?
That stone-scorned king Eunan. Bastard ruined everything.
24. Whom do you most admire?
Another easy one, Grandma is pretty much the best person I ever met. Bet she can fix anything, she puts her mind to it.
25. If you could have one wish granted, what would it be?
I want everyone to be back together. I aim to grant that wish.
26. If someone dropped a large sum of money and no one was looking, what would you do?
What would anyone do?
27. Is there anything you would risk your life to get?
Hmm. Probably my family back. It’s what I seem to be doing, by any road.
28. What's your worst memory?
I got stuck out in a storm one time, overnight. Luath broke down. I figured I was dead.
29. Are you financially rich or poor?
Not a penny on me.
30. Who raised you?
Mam, Dad, cousins, uncles, Grandma. The whole lot. Messy and chaotic? Sure. Fun? Mostly.
31. Do you have any unique talents? Do you consider them a blessing or a curse?
Well I’m good with machines, but that’s just a symptom of growin’ up a Shelley. Or that’s what Grandma said.
32. What's the minimum you need for a happy life?
Luath beneath me, a distant horizon and the family at my back.
33. How do you deal with failure?
Improvise? Depends on the level of failure.
34. Do you have any famous relatives?
Maybe. Everyone always treated grandma with right proper respect. More’n you’d expect from some nomad clanswoman.
35. What would you say to being told that you are a Mary Sue (regardless of whether this is true or not)?
Does that mean I get handsome boyfriends or something? What’s the deal?
36. How did you get your name?
Shelleys are Shelleys. Fess is short of Fessaylea, which is pronounced weird.
37. What three tropes would give anyone a good idea of what you are?
Wrench Wench is apparently a thing
Cool Car works
The Drifter maybe?
38: What would you sacrifice for your country?
Shelley’s ain’t got a country, slick.
39: If you could have anything, no string attached, what would it be?
A thing thing or an abstract thing? Thing wise, I’d love a portable garage.
40: When do you feel your best?
Behind the wheel.
41: When was your first kiss?
Erm… answer pending. Go away.
42: What are your weaknesses?
If I knew that, I’d fix ‘em wouldn’t I? Maybe anger?
43: If you had a chance to remake the world in your own image, would you do it?
That’s a loaded question, mister.
44: How honest are you?
When and where? I couldn’t ever get away with lyin’ to my folks.
45: Which of these questions did you consider to be the most important?
If I say this one will you lose your shit?
46: Have you ever been discriminated against?
Lot of people don’t like you if you’re wearing clan tats around here, ‘specially in the Chul Moors and the scrub-lands. Oh hey, look where I been travelling.
47: How do you feel about your government?
Not got one, mate. There’s a whole bunch of kings and queens layin’ claim to land on the plate, but none of ‘em own me or my kin. That bastard Eunan tried. Didn’t work out well for anyone, that.
48: If you could pick your Famous Last Words, what would they be?
"When I get back from the other world, there’s going to be some questions asked.”
49: What would drive you over the Moral Event Horizon?
I don’t really want to find out. I can’t imagine folk harming my family comin’ out of it pretty, I’ll say that much.
50. How would your character describe him/herself?
Just a mechanic tryin’ to get things fixed.
51. What would you choose as your last meal and why?
Something fancy, I reckon. Like roast duck or something.
52: Would you sacrifice your humanity in order to save the ones you love?
That’s not a real question. Buddy, heroes do that all the time, do you not listen to the stories?
53: When you kill a man, do you ever try to justify your actions?
I ain’t killed anyone yet.
54: What is your Berserk Button?
You touch my buggy or my family and you are dead, clear?
55: What is your age in Earth Years?
Like… 16? Maybe older? It’s not like I keep count.
56. What are the people you work with like?
Well the more I learn about Branón the less I trust him. Fun guy to chat with, but he has so much to hide. One to watch, and a dangerous one at that. But it’s lookin’ like that oath he swore to see me unharmed is binding, which might be of use. Wiles on the other hand, she’s jus’ flat out crazy. Anyone that’ll wander into the middle of a battle to get pictures of all things has more than just a screw loose.
57. What turns you on sexually?
Erm… I guess fitness? I like it when people are built properly. Look, can we go onto something else?
58. Have you ever enjoyed violence? Be honest!
Well when you’re in charge of a horde of screamin’ kids the occasional shove or arm lock is immensely satisfying. Dad always said I should hit ‘em harder than I did, makes a kid go soft even they ain’t roughhoused a little by the elders.
59. What do you believe to be honour?
You make a promise, you bloody well keep it, stones scorn you and gods shun you if you don’t. Beyond that, paying a fair price for a fair job is about right.
60. What is your impression of the above character based on their responses?
He sounds like a violent type. Kinda wondering what those gene things are he’s so keen on.

Gimme yer lunch money, dweeb.

I have no memory of my first life, sir. I know not whether I was a man, a woman, or an animal, but since I was born as a demon my life has been one fight after another.

I suppose my primary ambition is to avenge the deaths of my parents; it would not be appropriate to let their murderer get away with what he did. He...never mind.

What is "good"? What is "evil"? I have heard these words in the church but their meaning eludes me. What I know about mortals is that they are as ruthless as their demon ancestors.

I prefer to blind my foes and shatter their knees BEFORE TEARING OUT THEIR THROATS WITH MY TEETH! Forgive my...lack of control.

I fight first and foremost to advance my position in society, but if I learn of anyone who might lead me to my parents' killer, I will torture him for the information if need be.

I fight shame and disgrace; as the head of my family, I must never allow myself to seem weak or stupid.

I was taught to suppress fear and to sharpen my hatred into a deadly weapon, but the worst thing that could happen would be for me to disgrace my family; I would rather die than be thought of as a weak and stupid leader.

The only thing more precious than my whip is my reputation, though I will slit your throat if you share this information with anyone, good sir.

I suppose when you say "friend" you are asking who I would be willing to die for. My brother is my greatest ally and I would give him my last soul.

Demons know nothing of love; as children we are taught to hate our own siblings and cousins, for they are naught but rivals that we are forbidden to kill. However, my brother and I learned to hide our affection from an early age.

I enjoy nothing more than trysting with my brother, though I see this disturbs you. Why is that?

As I have already said, I know less about love than you do about my people. I suppose it is to be expected.

Every moment of my life is a battle for power.

I am a demon; how could I not believe in the power of magic? Does it not flow in my veins?

I am ruthless and calculating; does that not mean "lawful evil" by your definition?

A perfect world would have me as its sovereign.

I have no intention of dying, but I want everyone to know that I am as terrible, as powerful, as beautiful, and as cunning as the Devil himself.

I like to ride in a black carriage drawn by two black hell-steeds. Black is the traditional color connoting power, you see.

Though wrath defines me more, I am fond of lust.

I only ever feel safe in my brother's grip, though I will have to threaten your life if you share this with another demon, good sir.

Black, of course; all demons adore black. Though I must admit to a fondness for brown as well.

Every demon who is not a relative of mine is my worst enemy, though there is a special place in MY DUNGEON FOR WHOEVER KILLED MY PARENTS. Forgive my outburst, good sir.

The Devil is my hero, of course; though I am also fond of Saint Al'Maria, who taught the orphans of her town to read and became the patroness of a grand library. I am fond of books, you see, though this is another point of vulnerability you must not share.

I wish I could bring my parents back to life, or at least do something horrible to their killer.

I have no need of money, though I suppose I seem wealthy to a mortal. I would simply continue on my way if I saw money on the ground.

I risk my life every time I leave my house.

My cousin drowned me once; he was punished severely but I was not satisfied for many years. I burned him alive, you see; so, we are "even" as mortals say. If he comes within ten paces of me ever again, I will kill him anew; I am stronger now, you see.

To a mortal I seem wealthy, as I collect a thirteen-percent tax of gold, silver and jewels from the mortals that live in my territory; though, a demon would call me poor, for we use favors and debts as currency and I have more favors than debts. I assure you, this situation is not of my doing; I inherited my parents' favors and they made a number of unwise deals.

My parents raised me. (Pause) Yes, it is true that demons can transform into women; my mother was a more attractive man than woman, though. He hated being in that form but it was part of their marriage contract because he was of the lower station.

I am exceptionally skilled in the arts of string-plucking and pipe-blowing, though my parents did not think my small talent would translate into a career as a musician.

No demon can use "minimum" and "happy" in the same sentence, kind sir. I must have every little thing I desire or I will never be content.

I cannot afford to fail, sir. The fate of my entire family rests on my shoulders. To fail myself would be to fail my living family and the memory of my parents.

My paternal grandfather's grandfather was a renowned actor and playwright; his mother was a pipe-blower of such exquisite talent that "her" parents encouraged her interest in music.

Actually, I am more akin to a Villain Sue than a Mary, but I would not be offended at being called such.

My true name is a secret no living thing knows, and I have no intention of sharing it with you, kind sir. The name by which you may address me is derived from that of Saint Ar'Nigel, who baptized the first demon to embrace the way of the prophet.

"Affably Evil" and "Pragmatic Villainy" come to mind, but "Wicked Cultured" also applies to me.

I am a baron; I govern a territory of one hundred square miles; I would sacrifice the mortals in a heartbeat if I had to choose between them and the land. (Pause) Oh, do your parents live here?

I would have everything if I could.

My first kiss was with my father. Now, now, good sir, why the hysterics? Surely your parents taught you the art of whoring as mine taught me. No? Well how did you collect debts as a child?

I have told you quite enough as it is, dear sir. Surely you don't expect a demon of my stature to reveal such delicate information as my vulnerabilities. (Pause)Swear that you will never speak of it to anyone; swear on my whip. Very well. I possess thirteen souls; if the last one is used up, I will not rise again.

I am in the process of remaking the world in my image. It will be flawless. Even the Devil will be impressed.

I am as honest as any demon can afford to be. I cannot knowingly lie, but I can deceive and manipulate others well enough without damning myself.

What is "discrimination", exactly? Oh, that; certainly not - we demons do not judge each other based on such things. No, we hate weakness and stupidity, not skin or religion.

The Devil is a paragon of demonism and his reign has been admirable, but I think it is time for a change in regime. (Pause) Oh no, I would never kill him, sir. (Pause) His cell is very comfortable, I assure you.

What is a "moral event horizon"? Oh, I suppose I was born on the bad side of it, then.

What is all this talk of "last meals" and "last words"? Are you threatening me, sir, because I assure you I am more than capable of murdering one mortal. (Pause) Then I suggest you refrain from asking similar questions in the future. A less disciplined demon might have slaughtered you already.

I need not "justify" my actions, even if I kill a man. I am a demon after all, and we answer only to ourselves. And our parents. And the Devil. And our spouses, of course. Actually, now that I think on it, we demons do a great deal of "justifying". Hmm.

Speak on my parents and I may forget you are an uncle or a cousin or some other such relative. Nobody outside our family would dare cross me so.

I have lived as a demon for one hundred and sixty years, though I resemble a mortal of about sixteen years of age.

The people I work with are demons. What do you think they are like?

My brother. Oh, please stop this incessant wailing; what two betrothed demons do is their business. (Pause) Of course we are engaged; we come from a disgraced family, you fool, who else will marry us?

Honor is the appearance of virtue, and the virtues of my race are perhaps what your people would call vices.

I find the above character quite charming in her way. I know many mortals like her. Very "salt of the earth" as the priests like to say.

Here ya go. The full list was up to 79 questions last I checked, though most people omit at least a few that don't really pertain to their characters.

Nobody wants to be a pawn in the game of life. What they don't realize is the game of life is Minesweeper.
