    A-E
  • Above Good and Evil: All For One doesn't believe he or Luz should be bound by society's laws and morality due to winning the Superpower Lottery.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In the manga, All For One was a Big Brother Bully who killed his own brother a case of If I Can't Have You… no one can. Here Yoichi died of natural causes and All For One had a Big Brother Instinct, albeit a possessive one.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed. All For One claims he locked up his brother not out of cruelty, but to in a misguided attempt to protect him from the outside elements, due to his poor immune system. He was genuinely distraught when the résistance busted him because he died not long afterwards, due to exposure to the elements and lack of blood clotting. He flat out admits to himself that he didn’t care about the power that claiming One For All would give him, only that it was his brother's Quirk. He also made a genuine effort to comfort Luz when she had an emotional breakdown.
  • Admiring the Abomination: Shigaraki admits he's been to the Boiling Isles before and found the creatures and powers he saw there… to be outstanding.
  • Albinos Are Freaks: His white hair and red eyes are explained to be albinism in the story and he's a Card-Carrying Villain.
  • All According to Plan: Shigaraki on his influence on Luz to get him back to his world.
  • Ambition Is Evil: Shigaraki has expanded his Taking Over The World Evil Plan for his realm to becoming essentially a Multiversal Conqueror, adding The Boiling Isles and Luz's home world to his conquest. (After taking over her body, first.)
  • Antagonist Abilities: The Quirk "All For One" is very powerful and can be considered the ultimate nightmare in a society that revolves around superpowers.
  • At Least I Admit It: Despite hating his Brutal Honesty, Luz does gain a level of respect in All For One because of his attitude of his supervillain status compared to the Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist governor. Though its more because he's a Card-Carrying Villain than a case of Even Evil Has Standards.
  • Atop a Mountain of Corpses: Eda recalls the time during the war where All For One stood on the bodies of her fellow witches that was on fire.
  • Bad Powers, Bad People: Unlike Luz, Shigaraki plays this straight. The ability to steal powers from people and forcefully implant them into others is about as villainous as it sounds.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: All For One, his world's oldest and the most powerful Super Villain, is never seen without an impeccable black business suit in Luz's mindscape. She notes how it's almost like a metaphor, how his appearance and reputation projects the image as if he were seemingly spotless.
  • Bait the Dog: His one semi-redeeming element seemed to be his relationship with Luz, his Quirk's successor. When his soul is put in her head, he acts as an Evil Mentor of sorts giving his centuries worth of advice on how to use her Quirk, telling her she's The Chosen One, reassuring her that she shouldn't feel guilty about killing her enemies when they tried to kill her first and letting her know she doesn't have to turn out like him. In reality, she sees her as his ride back to his world and hopes Luz continues her Trauma Conga Line until she believes he's the only she count on so he can pull a Villain Override on her.
  • Been There, Shaped History: All for One was alive during the rise of Quirks in his world and became one its first supervillains. He also created One For All succession through his brother and wagged a 10-year war for control of the Boiling Isles with Belos and introduced Quirks to the witch population. After his death, he caused a Mass Super-Empowering Event when soul ended up in Luz's mindscape.
  • Big Bad: Having always found himself relating to comic book villain's, Shigaraki went full throttle with the idea of being this when he was alive in his world.
  • Bio-Augmentation: He had these done to his body to hold more Quirks than he could naturally have. He intends to do this to Luz's body too.
  • Body Backup Drive: Although more of a Body Replacement Drive in this case, is All For One's ultimate purpose for Luz, if he can't get to Tomura in his world.
  • Break Them by Talking: Shigaraki gets under Luz's skin with his theory why she thinks her power is wrong, preying on her fears with a brutal Villain Has a Point Hannibal Lecture with a barrage Armor Piercing Questions that leaves the poor girl wondering if her own mother doesn't love her for who she is.
  • Brutal Honesty: When Luz goes over What Ifs on how she could've prevented her friends murders to herself, All For One bluntly tells her nothing she could have done would have saved them, causing the poor girl great pain and to hit her Rage Breaking Point.
  • The Bully: At his core, Shigaraki is this. For all his power and influence, he's nothing more than a narcissistic, psychopathic bully who just wants to lord his power over everyone and everything. Case and point, his Breaking Speech to Luz wasn't out of Tough Love or Villain Has a Point moment for his successor's sake, but because enjoyed tormenting the poor girl.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Averted. Toshiko asks All For One if killed Harvey, one of Willow's dad's, 14 years ago, he confirmed he did as he was one of the few witches that managed to wound him, albeit lightly.
  • Cain and Abel: Rikitatsu had a younger twin brother called Yoichi who had a strong sense of justice and opposed his villainy. Yoichi became the first wielder of One For All and would create the line of heroes dedicated to ending All For One's evil once and for all.
  • Call-Back: Shigaraki admits that All For One can be replicated and has had imperfect copies like No. 6 and Nine. He laments he could never fully able to copy the thing to ensure his Villainous Legacy.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He's evil and he knows it.
  • The Caretaker: He was his younger brother's provider and didn't dislike it, though he was possessive and controlling of him.
  • Casual Danger Dialogue: Since he's a voice inside Luz's head, Shigaraki sometimes engage in this with her while his host battles whoever she's up against. Although offer advice if he feels she needs it or shut up when she must concentrate.
  • The Chessmaster: All For One is very much this.
Narrator: Rikitatsu Shigaraki was a man of planning. He never did anything without a plan, a backup plan should that original plan fail, and another backup plan if that backup plan fell through. Some people would call him meticulous to a fault, and perhaps that was his downfall prior to his death, but he had plans in place should he ever die before his plan with Tomura would see through.
  • Commonality Connection: Shigaraki claims he understands her murderous rage over the death of someone you care about that any rational person would want revenge by any means necessary. He's most likely referring to his brother's death after passing One For all to his successor.
  • Consummate Liar: All For One mixes just enough truth in his lies to make him sound believable to Luz.
  • Control Freak: He's defined by his insistence of having everything play out according to his designs, especially when it comes to achieving control over people (notably Yoichi, and Luz) and being the one and only person to triumph against One For All.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Shigaraki is trying to do this to Luz, with some success.
  • The Corrupter: All for One is this to Luz, with some results to his liking. This includes getting her to steal more powers, Gaining the Will to Kill, and having some resentment towards her mother. He's essential trying to be the Palpatine to her Anakin Skywalker.
  • Crazy-Prepared: He all but describes himself as this and is proud of this trait.
  • Create Your Own Hero: He accidentally created One For All, the Quirk that would defeat him.
  • Dark Is Evil: Wears dark clothes, exists in the dark void of Luz's Mental World, and was the most powerful villain in his Realm.
  • Dark Messiah: Shigaraki used his Quirk to give powers to the oppressed Quirkless and take away those who suffered from them. This allowed him to amass an immense number of loyal followers whose gratitude grew into blind fanatics, who carried out his will, even without his command. His Power Palms also feed into this, as they give him the appearance of a stigmata. Not to mention his death led to a Mass Super-Empowering Event in Luz's world.
  • Dead Person Conversation: The deceased All For One is capable of speaking to Luz, although he can only speak briefly.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Shigaraki can be this sometimes, to Luz's annoyance.
  • Death Is a Slap on the Wrist: All For One merely views his situation of being dead and trapped in a child's mind as a temporary inconvenience.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Invoked by Shigaraki to Luz. He points out while his actions to her might seem detestable he emphasises know that they grew up in different situations.
  • Determinator: All For One is STILL completely obsessed with claiming One For All for himself (as it houses the spirit of his younger brother whom he had always wanted by his side in his schemes) even after dying to it at All Might's back in his world. Not even experiencing death by its hands can dissuade him.
  • Demonic Possession: He plans to do this to Luz.
  • Diabolical Mastermind: All for One was this in his world at the height of his power before being put down by All Might years before the start of the story. He ruled the criminal underworld with an iron fist and snuffed out any potential threat to his rule. In the present day, he's refocused his efforts to stealing One For Fall in the Boiling Isles, turning his successor Luz Noceda to be his new vessel, getting back to his home world and re-establishing his criminal empire in both his world and the Boiling Isles. In that order.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Shigaraki admits he did not think that things would've escalated quickly to the point that Luz would steal more Quirks than her body can contain and suffer a bloody Heroic RRoD.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: As far as Luz was concerned, forcing anything on anyone, be it a drug or a power, was akin to… well, just thinking of the word made her sick. She's especially disgusted by Shigaraki non-consensually giving his little brother a Quirk.
  • The Dreaded: All For One became this in his world that it got to the point where there was a resistance force created solely to try and kill him. He was also this in the Boiling Isles for his war crimes.
  • Enemy Within: Shigaraki is ultimately this to Luz in the end.
  • Equal-Opportunity Evil: All For One has no issues making witches and demons his followers. A useful pawn is a useful pawn regardless of their race, after all.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • Played With. At first, All For One seemed to genuinely care about Luz in his own Evil Mentor way, being his Quirk's successor and all, but like with his younger brother and Tomura, at the end of the day he sees the young teen as little more than an extension of himself and he's merely grooming her to becoming his next vessel and means to get back to his world.
    • Despite seeing him as inferior, All For One he loved Yoichi in his own way and looked after him the best he could. He was genuinely upset and angry when he died.
Such a weak, frail, and pathetic man. Yet, a man who he loved as a brother with all of his blackened heart. It was why he hunted after One For All. To reclaim what was his. His brother.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Seemingly played straight then chillingly averted with All For One in regards to why Luz doesn't like the idea of taking other people's Quirk's.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Luz his Quirk's successor, though he intends to Corrupt the Cutie.
  • Evil Is Bigger: All for One is over 7 ft. tall, easily dwarfing Luz, an average-sized teenage girl.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Shigaraki becomes a Large Ham when hyping up their Quirk to Luz, something she wishes he'd stop doing.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: The Blights found this out the hard way when Odalia tried to make a deal with him and she, her husband and youngest daughter got experimented on with his Quirks. Its described what he had done to the mother and father was akin to butchering them and became pariahs in their community for harboring him in their house.
  • Evil Laugh:
  • Evil Mentor: All For One acts as this to Luz, teaching how to use her powers and offering life advice, while subtly trying corrupt her. He acts as the Palpatine to her Anakin Skywalker.
  • Evil Versus Evil: He had fought Emperor Belos for a decade for control of the Boiling Isles.
  • Eviler than Thou: All For One showed himself to be this to Odalia.

    F-P
  • False Friend: All For One is ultimately this to Luz. Case and point: He's also aware that Riley, Luz's cousin, plans to to murder her and doesn't seem to be in a hurry to warn her. In fact, he seems as an opportunity to turn her into more like him and make the girl distrust anyone else who isn't him. Any affection Shigaraki has for Luz Noceda is superficial at best.
  • Fantastic Racism: All For One admits to Luz she shunned by his peers for having Quirk in his youth. His people were seen as monsters, were culled, and it was even worse with those who had mutations.
  • Faustian Rebellion: The entirety of One for All's legacy became this against him, starting when he gave his brother a Quirk which created One for All by accident to All Might killing him.
  • Faux Affably Evil: All For One is almost always polite and cordial towards Luz and his incredible charisma allowed him to amass a following of devoted servants when he ruled Japan and gain some level of trust from Luz despite knowing he's a bad guy. That said, he often laces his politeness with barbs and jabs when talking about others and views everyone as beneath him. Luz even notes his smiles seem forced and knows that for all of All for One's civility and cooperation with her lies a ruthless master criminal who's not afraid to murder, mutilate and silence anyone who gets in his way.
  • Finger-Tenting: Shigaraki does this a lot when talking to Luz.
  • Freudian Excuse Denial: Shigaraki tells Luz he'd most likely still be a tyrannical monster on purpose with his Quirk even if he didn't suffer from the Fantastic Racism in in youth, much to the girl's annoyance.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: All for One was a street living orphan in the time of the first generation of Quirk users. As he grew up, he organized a network of loyal followers and terrorized Japan for over 100 years and almost total control of the criminal underworld.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: All For One gives a non-violent one to Luz when she believes she just been tricked into accidently killing her own mother with her Deadly Force Field and they're still in a fight to the death that's far from over. Not that he could slap her even if he wanted to.
Shigaraki: Calm yourself. Focus… You can grieve later. Channel that anger and despair you are feeling, and use it against your enemies. Push past this, and bring your wrath down on your foes!
  • God-Emperor: All For One's endgame is to rule humanity as a functional deity across The Multiverse, accumulating so much strength and so many Quirks using Luz's body that the world will have no choice but to depend on him for resources after throwing the economy into chaos.
  • Grand Theft Me: Shigaraki's Evil Plan for Luz then get back to his world.
  • Greed: Luz describes the All For One Quirk is an embodiment of this, allowing them to amass unchecked power at a whim. Shigaraki doesn't deny this.
  • Hated by All: Nearly everybody in Mutant and Demon Realms speaks of him with either fear, hatred, or both.
  • Healing Factor: At some point, he managed to acquire a healing Quirk, but it was useless in restoring his body from the fatal damage All Might inflicted on him.
  • The Heavy: Being the Evil Mentor living in her head, Shigaraki is the one who interacts far more with the protagonist than any other bad guy. He's also ultimately responsible for a lot of suffering in the story.
  • Hero Killer: He and his followers had become infamous for killing many heroes who tried to stop them. This is especially true of the holders of One For All: before All Might killed him in their battle. He also killed Harvey Park, one of Willow's dads, and many citizens of the Boiling Isles 14 years before the story began.
  • Hidden Depths: He flat out admits to himself that he didn’t care about the power that claiming One For All would give him, implying he didn't need it to achieve his goals, but because it was a Tragic Keepsake of his younger twin brother.
  • History Repeats: Noticing the events Luz goes through similar to his own past and gains some of his physical traits, Shigaraki wants her to become the "Next Me" via Trauma Conga Line.
Ah~ good times! Luz’s life was playing mirror to his own. That was good. First persecution based on how one simply existed both in the past and the present. Now, there was seemingly a potential betrayal in the family. So long as this continued, and so long as enough tragedy strikes her, she’d be willing to listen to damn near anything he requested of her. It was only a matter of time before she gave way to her truest self. The truest self that All For One grants its user. Complete, and total, unrivalled POWER. Free from one’s limitations and morality. Free from one’s perceptions of the law. The moment Luz went quote-on-quote crazy, was the moment that he would be able to grant her the fullest of All For One.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Shigaraki admits to Luz that creating One For All was the beginning of his downfall that eventually led to All Might killing him in their Final Battle. He notes in hindsight he shouldn't have given his little brother a Quirk out of pity.
  • Horrifying the Horror: Even Shigaraki is a bit creeped out by the vestiges in the Mental World.
  • Hypocrite: Shigaraki doesn't have a high opinion on churches, viewing them as the "business in deluding the weak-willed". Though, this can be seen as a Psychological Projection as this is how he treats his own followers.
  • I Control My Minions Through...: In the past, All For One controled his minions by giving them Quirks, thus indebting them to him. However, he's also shown a talent for manipulating people frustrated with society they live in. This includes Luz, using her low self-esteem and her trouble fitting in to make her turn against everyone, while trying to act as a tough but fair mentor towards her.
  • Irony: All For One can't help but notice that actively manipulating Luz gets him subpar results, while allowing her a moments of freedom from his suggestions and manipulations, she is doing what he needed of her to get back to his home world.
  • It's All About Me: His Quirk name says it all. Not even Tomura, Gigantomachia, Yoichi or Luz are exceptions to All For One's egomania, viewing them as extensions of his will than their own person.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Shigaraki fully admits to being a bad guy and owning up to his crimes as wrong, which surprises Luz as most Supervillains don't do that. He tells Luz she is destined for greatness, pointing out that her creativity shouldn't be stripped but cultivated in a more constructive manner, lets her know he's glad she survived the blow-back from having too many Quirks and advises which ones to keep. Shigaraki also teaches her how to strengthen her body to hold more Quirks, reassures her that she was not in the wrong when killing the kids that murdered her friends, and lets her know that just because she has his power doesn't she has to turn out like him if she doesn't want to. This could be seen as a heartwarming, if twisted, student/teacher relationship... Don't let that fool you for a second; in later chapters, it's revealed he's perfectly fine with hijacking Luz's body and using her like a puppet which would cause a Death of Personality if successful to get back to his home world to continue his reign of terror.
  • Kick the Dog: He's an expert at this, dead or alive.
  • Lack of Empathy: As in the show, whatever praise or concern Rikitasu Shigaraki shows for others is false, because ultimately, All For One sees his followers as a means to an end and is utterly devoid of any genuine compassion for others.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: His death at All Might's hands for killing his mentor and predecessors is this as he created his Quirk, One For All, in the first place through his younger brother.
  • Laughably Evil: Surprisingly, he can be this with his chats with Luz.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: All For One is not one to miss a chance to take advantage of the chaos he causes or caused by others to advance his goals. Hell, he was the one who accidentally caused the Mass Super-Empowering Event and kicked off the plot in the first place!
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: Shigaraki pretty much tells Luz this after seeing her cringed reaction for using the phrase "spill the tea".
  • Locked Out of the Loop: All For One was chased off before Amity was born and find out he succeeded in recreating One For All through Amity's birth.
  • Long-Lived: Shigaraki was 150 years old when he died, and it was not by natural causes.
  • Loves the Sound of Screaming: He considers hearing the painful moans of the vestiges one thing that was keeping him entertained being stuck in Luz's Mental World when not speaking to the girl.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Luz the Anti-Hero is the current user of All For One and is a powerful foe to face against... absolutely no one but Luz herself knows that Shigaraki is helping her master All For One and her battles via her Mental World.
  • Manipulative Bastard: A specialty of All For One's who manipulates people and events around him without ever getting directly involved. Luz accuses Shigaraki of being this from the beginning and she's not wrong, forcing him to be more subtle with a More than Mind Control and Villain Has a Point approach.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • The story gives All For One the full name of Shigaraki Rikitasu, meaning "A multitude of splendid powers of death", which is quite fitting for a man with Power Parasite abilities who is a dangerous Card-Carrying Villain.
    • This villain name "All For One" is just as suitable for someone who spent his life stealing and hoarding Quirks for his own purposes. It fits him much more than Luz who can be altruistic.
  • Melting-Pot Nomenclature: Averted. All For One considers a foreign name mixed with a Japanese name to be ugly as sin.
  • Memento MacGuffin: Like in the manga, One For All is this to Shigaraki because it originated from his younger brother, Yoichi, and it is the one Quirk that defies him.
  • Mind Control: All For One used Titan's Blood to keep Gigantomachia as this.
  • More than Mind Control: The “addiction” that Shigaraki warned Luz about was really him forcing her hand, making her take Quirks to make her stronger and to fuel his sadism. Its revealed that every action, thought and word that she did that she considered as evil person was, in some way, influenced by Shigaraki.
  • Multiversal Conqueror: All For One's Evil Plan is to essentially become this, taking over his realm, Luz's realm and the demon realm.
  • Named by Adaptation: All For Luz gives him Rikitasu as his first name.
  • Narcissist: All For One is a narcissistic sociopath who only cares about power, himself, and what people could do for him, including his family. His immense desire to claim One for All, can be seen as him trying to retrieve an extension of himself that refuses to comply with his wishes. He also sees Luz as an extension of himself, becoming overjoyed as he sees the events she goes through similar to his own past and gains some of his physical traits. He finds her brown eyes disgusting and wishes that they would turn red like his soon.
  • Necessarily Evil: Luz sees having him as her Evil Mentor as this. He's trapped in his head with no way to kick him out and he has over a centuries worth of knowledge and experience in using Quirks, as no one else in her world is an expert on them. However, he also acts as a corrupting influence on girl over time.
  • Never My Fault:
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: His apparent first act of genuine kindness, giving his twin brother a Quirk to make him stronger and join his side, lead to the creation of the Quirk that would cause his death.
  • Not Quite Dead: Shigaraki's consciousness, dubbed as a vestige, is embedded within All For One which was transferred to Luz's soul when he fell to All Might.
  • Obsolete Mentor: Downplayed. All For One claims that now Luz has awaken their Quirk, from this point forward, he only knows the basics about it. However, he's still helpful in the lore of the Boiling Isles.
  • Obviously Evil: Before Luz even said 2 words to Shigaraki, he set off her "Warning: This man is clearly EVIL" alarm the moment she lays eyes on the scary-looking man.
  • Older Than They Look: Shigaraki looks to Luz like a middle-aged, yet tall and well-built man but really over a hundred years old.
  • One-Man Army: The Emperor's Coven were just Cannon Fodder to him in the war.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The normally calm and in control Shigaraki demands Luz to get rid of the extra Quirks with genuine worry and concern. He also sounds to be panicking as it appears the Golden Guard is going to kill his protege (along with him) and she's helpless.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: He didn't plan on making Luz his successor, having heard of the girl in his life, never mind met her. But since he's trapped in her mind and has inherited his Quirk, he decided to make do with her, instead of Tomura.
  • Otaku: Who would have thought a Card-Carrying Villain like All For One would be an avid manga reader nerd like Luz?
  • Outside-Context Problem:
    • After Jonah tricks Luz into believing she just killed her own mother with her Forcefield Cannon when Charlie teleports her corpse in the attack, she about to go into a Heroic BSoD which was All According to Plan for the monster to set her up a killing blow. What the assassins didn't count on, was the Spirit Advisor living in the girl's head to bring her out of it with a pep-talk invoking The Power of Hate and to Pay Evil unto Evil which gives her a Heroic Second Wind.
    • Hunter wants Luz as an ally to liberate his people from his Evil Uncle. However, he's completely unaware of All For One's presence in her mind with his own agenda.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Shigaraki's habit of this gives Creepy Uncle vibes to Luz.
  • Personality Powers: Unlike Luz, All For One is defined by his selfishness and every relationship he has is ultimately him viewing the other person as his possession rather than a person, making him a Power Parasite is immensely fitting.
  • Pet the Dog: When Luz suddenly hugs the villain and starts bawling in his chest after everything that's happened to her in the Battle of Gravesfield, Rikitatsu is left confused until this scenario reminds him of when his late brother Yoichi, one person who cared about other than himself, did this when they were kids. Instead of using the situation to his advantage for manipulation, the supervillain makes a genuine effort to comfort the crying child.
Rikitatsu: It’s… going to be alright, Noceda.
  • Plausible Deniability: All For One plans to use Luz's skin colour as this if All Might comes across him in her body in the Mutant Realm.
  • Posthumous Character: All For One died to All Might which causes the story to begin.
  • The Power of Hate: Its the one emotion that All For One seems to have faith in is hatred, and encourages Luz to utilize it.
  • The Power of Blood: All For One used Titan's Blood to keep Gigantomachia's Undying Loyalty to him as a Mind Control agent at the cost of his intelligence, his other Quirk experiments and travel to the Demon Realm in order to find some more.
  • Pragmatic Villainy:
    • When an angry Luz believes Shigaraki is implying she should kill Julia after taking her Quirk, he quickly corrects her he isn't, as it would make her quality of life worse. Though its most likely he doesn't want to lose what little trust girl has in him.
    • Shigaraki strongly recommends that it would be better for Luz if she didn’t kill anyone she took the Quirk off of, if it can be helped. Otherwise, they'll both be bombarded by the voices of those who Luz has stolen the Quirks of.
    • He admits to enjoy tormenting and manipulating poor Luz, only holding himself back to not lose her trust in him for his master plan to work.
  • Pretender Diss: All For One sees Belos as a fool and plans on taking the Boiling Isles from him.

    R-Z
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's looks like he's approaching middle-aged but was one of the earliest Quirk users in his realm, and his Life Force Quirk (which was given to him by Dr. Garaki) extended his lifespan to 150 until All Might put him down.
  • Red Baron: He is refer to as "The Interloper" on the Boiling Isles.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Shigaraki has these and is a dangerous character. Luz at one point notes that All For One's red piercing eyes gave her the chills.
  • Revenge: He wants this on All Might for killing him.
  • Sadist: Despite finding them to be creepy, Shigaraki describes the moans of pain from the vestiges in Luz's Mindspace to be musical and wonderful to his ears.
    • It's revealed that he lied to Luz about the "Quirk Addiction" because of this, enjoying watching her kill her friends murderers and steal their Quirks in her rampage. He only holds off on tormenting Luz herself not out of any compassion but by out of Pragmatic Villainy to keep her trust in him.
  • Satanic Archetype: He's like the devil on Luz's shoulder.
  • Seen It All: Shigaraki, aware of the scene unfolding, isn't at all worried Luz was blown to pieces or surprised that his successor would live. After all he's survived worse.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: All For One is described as wearing a black two-piece business suit not too dissimilar to what the Antagonistic Governor wears.
  • Sincerity Mode: Shigaraki is genuinely curious about why Luz thinks stealing other people’s powers is wrong.
  • Sink or Swim Mentor: Normally he isn't this but decides when Luz is fighting The Golden Guard, she has to Figure It Out Yourself to beat him.
Shigaraki: Just because I’m your mentor does not mean I am obliged to give you all the answers. I can’t coddle you. If you are to be a true successor to All For One, you need to figure it out on your own. Just because you have a plethora of abilities does not make up for a lack of problem-solving. I didn’t get anywhere in the world without figuring out my problems for myself.
  • Slasher Smile: Shigaraki constantly cracking wide, toothy grins whenever he's getting particularly emotionally worked up, smug, or satisfied with his results, which helps sell to Luz when they first meet there's something off about him.
  • The Sleepless: Shigaraki at one point in his life stole a Quirk that made it so he didn’t have to sleep, so that he didn't have to deal with the vestiges haunting his dreams.
  • Slouch of Villainy: All For One does this on his chair in the Mental World in his Establishing Character Moment to Luz. She notes he acts like a king on his throne looking down on a peasant.
  • So Proud of You: Rikitatsu praises Luz for achieving Quirk Awakening, something he couldn't do in his entire life, telling her he's genuinely proud of her and that the Quirk is truly her's now.
  • The Social Darwinist: He certainly has this mindset when it comes to powers, with his being at the top of the food chain.
  • The Sociopath: Tics all the boxes for a high-functioning one: Arrogant, manipulative, intelligent, higher-than-average impulse control, Lack of Empathy. Even his supposed affection for Luz is skin-deep as he's not above manipulating her into becoming the "Next Me" and is more than willing for her to get hurt or outright have her pushed to the Despair Event Horizon if it suits his goals.
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: So far Shigaraki has never raised his voice to or around Luz, despite being an unrepentant villain.
  • Spirit Advisor: Ever since he died at All Might's hands, All For One presents himself as an Evil Mentor version of this to Luz, since he's literally stuck in her head and she needs help learning about her powers.
  • Superpower Lottery: All For One can steal Quirks from others, dead or alive, and wield them as their own. Luz can also combine the Quirks she has for stronger attacks. She can also give the Quirks to others. As Shigaraki explains, in a world where Everyone Is a Super, the one who can steal powers and give them to other people is the king.
  • Superhuman Trafficking: He's guilty of doing this to witches.
  • Supervillain: Luz correctly pegs All For One as one before he admits it.
  • The Svengali: Shigaraki is ultimately planning to groom Luz to carry out his will, as well as to make the girl her next vessel that's more resistant to the Quirk Singularity, as he tried with Tomura in canon.
  • Sympathy for the Hero: Even someone with a black heart like him is compelled to comfort Luz after her horrible experience at the battle of Gravesfield leads her to break down into tears after its over, which is probably only altruistic thing he's done in over a century.
Rikitatsu: You’ve been through a lot. More than any child should have to go through.
  • Take Over the World: All For One admits to Luz this was his purpose in life. And even after death he still plans to do so as well as adding the Boiling Isles to his list of conquest.
  • Totally Radical: Downplayed. Shigaraki once used the phrase "spill the tea". After seeing Luz's Lame Pun Reaction he promises her that he will never say that sentence again.
  • Tragic Keepsake: All For One flat out admits to himself that he didn’t care about the power that claiming One For All for himself would give him, implying he didn't need it to achieve his goals, but because it was a reminder of his long dead brother.
  • The Unapologetic: When Luz asks Shigaraki if he regrets becoming a Card-Carrying Villain, he replies that the only thing he'd change if given the chance is his approach, tweaking things here and there to make his plans more effective out of Pragmatic Villainy.
Luz: Do you… regret what you did?
Shigaraki: Do I regret my actions? [...] Hardly. The only thing I regret doing is going about it in the way I did. I made a lot of errors back then, and if I were given a second chance, I would do it again, only perhaps with a less violent approach, and perhaps I wouldn’t have created One For All with my future knowledge. To give a very short version of my answer. No. No, I do not. But if I could change small bits and pieces of what I did to make for a more healthy outcome, then I would. Otherwise, I’d keep things the same.
  • The Unfettered: There is very little, Shigaraki wouldn't do in order to succeed in his goals.
  • Using You All Along: All For One admits to himself that Luz was just a means to an end for his Evil Plan: To get to his world, have her steal One For All from All Might or his successor, and then pull a Villain Override her body and come back to life stronger than ever. With an evolved version of his Quirk, he would be unstoppable, and he could reclaim his empire from those who stole it when he was dead.
  • Villain Override: All For One's Long Game Evil Plan involves doing this to Luz.
  • Villain Protagonist: He is the deuteragonist of the story and a straight up supervillain.
  • Villains Never Lie: As much of a Manipulative Bastard he is, Shigaraki has rarely outright lied to Luz, especially if it concerns an Awful Truth, simply out of delight with her trying to deny the awful revelations whilst he's being completely honest and forthright with her. Despite hating this, Luz does gain a level of trust in All For One because of this trait. Unfortunately for her, 'doesn't lie' does not mean All For One still isn't any less manipulative, villainous, and deceitful.
Wake-up call after wake-up call was something that [Luz] was used to, but not with the bluntness that Shigaraki provided. Most people danced around every subject, but Shigaraki didn’t. He went straight to the heart of the problem and ripped the bandage off with a pair of pliers each and every time. First, it was about using her power, then it was about the reality of the situation she was in, and recently it was about her mother and her actions.
  • Virtue Is Weakness: Shigaraki tells Luz she shouldn't force limitations onto herself because of some "misguided" sense of morality.
  • What Is This Feeling?: He has this moment when seeing Luz in emotional turmoil after her Trauma Conga Line, instead of his just usual sadism he feels sympathy. While he brushes off any real good in him as a malarkey, he feels himself genuinely starting to care about his successor for all the horrible stuff he was ultimately responsible for.
  • Who's Laughing Now?: All For One admits to Luz, he eventually got fed up with the Fantastic Racism from those around him, and I acted upon his Power Parasite urges. He started to amass power, steal from those who I thought didn’t deserve it, and redistributed it to those who he believed knew would never lay a finger on him and his younger brother. Eventually he became Japan's most powerful supervillain.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: All For One has white hair due to albinism and he's definitely one of the most evil characters in the entire story.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Perks: All For One tries to sell this to Luz. She would prefer to follow With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility instead, even she finds to be cheesy.
  • World's Strongest Man: His Quirk is the most powerful one in his Realm with unlimited potential. Shigaraki remained unchallenged for over a century until the advent of All Might and put him down. He schemes to make Luz this and (if Tomura isn't a viable option) turn into his literal 'next me' in preparation for gaining the ability to claim his former strength and more through the body of a younger, more physically-enhanced individual (with help from his Mad Doctor) capable of withstanding the strain of his accumulated abilities without risk of a Superpower Meltdown, along with the capacity to finally absorb One For All, the only power that can stop him, and finally succeed in claiming the role for good as a near god-like being that will then Take Over the World in 3 seperate Realms.
  • Would Hurt a Child: His grooming of Tenko and turning him into Tomura qualifies as this, as any chance Tenko had at a normal life was taken from him the second Shigaraki found him. He also intents to use Luz as his own personal Soul Jar, if he can't reach Tomura.
  • Writing About Your Crime: He had a journal detailing his Quirk experiments, including recreating One For All. The Blights own a copy.
  • You Monster!: Luz and the residents of the Boiling Isles see him as this. And they're not wrong.
