It's the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. Are you ready?
O is Not For Over

Airdates: May 30, 2016 / June 20, 2016 note , December 8, 2015 note , October 4, 2015 note

Olive and Otto face their biggest challenge yet. Olive is given her own Odd Squad to run and Otto gets a new partner, but the changes don't sit well with Odd Todd or Otto.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Ohlm refers to Polly Graph as "Pooly Groove" when suggesting where to find the spider-cat.
    • Olive does this to herself at one point, referring to herself as "Agent Olive" instead of "Ms. O".
  • Acting Unnatural: Otto is incredibly anxious when first walking into the bullpen at the start of enacting Odd Todd's plan, and doesn't greet Oscar when he compliments him on his Cool Shades. It takes a prompt from Odd Todd to get him to even stutter out an "I'm okay" when Oscar shows concern for him. Neither the scientist nor Ohlm become suspicious of Otto, however.
  • Alternate Catchphrase Inflection: After the Main 4 perform a Group Hug, Ms. O recites her "Well, what are you waiting for? Go!" catchphrase in a more disheartened tone than her usual stern one.
    • She also repeats her "Something very odd has happened" catchphrase when addressing Olive and Otto's replacements, only she uses a more bolder tone.
  • Ambiguous Time Period: Averted; this episode outright confirms that the entirety of Season 1 takes place in a year.
  • And the Adventure Continues: Shortly after Olive and Otto leave for their precinct, two new agents — their replacements — arrive in Precinct 13579. Their identities aren't confirmed until the next episode, "First Day".
  • And You Thought It Was a Game: Ohlm mistakenly believes that he and Otto are competing against each other to solve the case first. Otto's reaction is nothing short of What the Hell, Hero?.
  • Animorphism: Some agents gain the ability to shapeshift into various odd creatures as part of The Plan to permanently defeat Odd Todd, by wearing and activating headgear that grants the ability. Oscar, Ms. O and Olive, however, are exempt from the trope (see the respective Unrobotic Reveal and Humanshifting entries).
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Odd Todd delivers an effective one to Otto when the agent begins to doubt coming to his lair.
    Otto: I shouldn't have come.
Odd Todd: [grabbing Otto by the shoulders] Oho, Otto Otto Otto. This is the only way to get Olive back. [pacing back and forth] If we unleash something really odd from Headquarters, Ms. O will realize she can't lose her best agent, and you'll have your partner back. [stepping towards Otto] That's what you've always wanted...isn't it?
    [Beat]
    Otto: [solemnly nodding] Yeah.
  • A True Hero: Otto is very humble about being named a hero for stopping Odd Todd, and says that the real hero is Oscar, for making the gadgets needed to pull off The Plan effectively to begin with.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: After the climactic battle, Olive brings Otto through the Trophy Room to have a private discussion, saying that she's not taking the position of Director. When Otto confronts her about it, she firmly tells him again that she's not taking it...unless he comes with her. Shortly after, Otto is promoted to co-Director alongside her.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: As eccentric as Odd Todd is with bouncing on balls and making weird noises in order to think, he's still an incredibly dangerous and capable villain whose primary goal is to destroy Odd Squad.
  • The Big Board: Odd Todd has one in his office that details the bullpen and what areas are in it, as well as the drawn headshots of villains on the side.
  • Big "NO!": Otto's response when Odd Todd attempts to get him to stop releasing every creature and oddity from the rooms.
  • Big Red Button: It's not red, but Olive manages to press a button on Ms. O's Universal Remote Control that causes various things in her office to go completely berserk, including the tubes, the screen (which Olive was initially aiming to control), and the couches among other things.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Downplayed; Otto's "what" in response to Oscar saying he opened all of the doors in the hallways, but not on all of the floors, is absolutely dripping with Tranquil Fury.
    • It's played straight with Olive, whose response to Otto's question of if they have to be married (since their titles are Mr. and Ms. O) is golden.
Olive: What?! NO!! Don't make this weird.
  • Big "YES!": Olive's response when Ms. O offers for her to run her own Odd Squad precinct, natch (this is her dream, after all).
  • Bittersweet Ending: Olive and Otto leaving the show indefinitely was something that tugged at a lot of fans' heartstrings, despite their brief cameo in "First Day". The fact that Olive and Otto are shown trying not to cry as they leave in the tubes makes it worse.
  • Book Ends: Two that both correlate to the first episode of the show.
    • In "Zero Effect", Olive remarks that it's a quiet day at the Squad when she and Otto walk in and see all of the various oddities occurring. In this episode, she says the line again, only with dangerous creatures roaming around and destroying Headquarters.
    • At the end of the episode, Oscar points out that Otto invited everyone to his 11th birthday party, mirroring the plot of "Zero Effect" which had him celebrating his 10th birthday.
  • Bound and Gagged: Polly Graph is shown tied up in spider-cat string that drapes across her lemonade stand when Otto and Ohlm come across her.
  • Brick Joke: At one point, Olive is shown trying a glass of what looks like chocolate milk, but is really dirt with water. When Otto goes to inform Ms. O of Odd Todd's recent appearance, Oscar is shown with the drink in his hand.
  • The Bus Came Back: Laralisa returns in this episode as a full-grown adult after having last been seen as a baby in "A Case of the Sing-Alongs".
  • Call-Back: Ms. O brings up her feud with Orville, and says that they've now made up.
  • Character Development: Of course, the episode serves as character development for Olive, as she fulfills her dream of running her own Odd Squad precinct and loosens up greatly after being a Shell-Shocked Veteran. This development would carry over into her future appearances in The Movie as well as in the OddTube episode "Interview with Olive", where it's revealed that she is getting over her fear of pie (and by extension, the trauma she received from the pienado attack).
    • This episode marks the pinnacle of Otto's development as well, from a Cloudcuckoolander rookie agent who served as The Watson to a veteran agent who takes his work seriously.
    • There is also development for Ms. O. She went from a Mean Boss who was constantly yelling at her agents and didn't show much affection for them to a Benevolent Boss who, while still yelling at her agents from time to time, genuinely cares for them and is willing to help them out when needed.
  • Cheerful Child: Olive is on fine form in this episode, squeeing and jumping up and down excitedly as soon as she realizes she's promoted to Ms. O.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Like with Ms. O, Olive and Otto travel through the tubes in purple balls instead of their usual red ones, fitting their new department's color (purple).
  • Cool Car: Aside from the golden statue of a car in Ms. O's office, she also has a small toy car similar to the one Olive drove in "Party of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1" hidden under a couch.
  • Cool Shades: Otto wears a pair that has a P.O.V. Cam attached to the front of them so Odd Todd can see what he sees.
  • Cool Sword: Both Octavia and Ms. O fight with these — Octavia's is a Laser Blade that functions like a lightsaber, while Ms. O's is a purple Technicolor Blade that can fire a Sword Beam in the shape of the Odd Squad badge phone symbol that has the ability to encase its target in a large block of ice.
  • Conservation of Ninjutsu: The Main 4, as well as a few other agents, manage to take down a swath of odd creatures invading Headquarters with no trouble.
    • This is averted in Odd Todd's case, as the sheer amount of creatures and other oddities that advance on him prove to be too much for him, and he quickly makes haste.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The Montage of Olive and Otto consists of images from past episodes like "Recipe for Disaster" and "Double Trouble", among others.
  • Continuity Nod: The episode is riddled with nods to past episodes.
    • Ms. O is seen re-enacting the Hydraclops battle in "Rise of the Hydraclops" with papercraft versions of her, Olaf, and the rest of the Main 4, as well as a papercraft version of the Hydraclops itself.
    • Spider-cats make another appearance, having been mentioned in one of Oscar's Training Videos.
    • When Otto asks Ms. O if he can talk to her about his new partner, she responds with the same Bait-and-Switch "Absolutely...not!" that she used in "Agent Obfusco".
    • Ohlm transforms into water travel mode at one point, which was last seen in "Captain Fun".
    • Oscar has his 25 Oscarbots take on the same Combining Mecha form that they did in "Oscar and the Oscarbots" for Olive's training.
    • The Burly Bears once again compete against the Rambunctious Rams, just like they did in "Bad Luck Bears".
    • O'Malley tells Otto that he'll send him up the tubes, but not Ohlm, to which Otto responds that he and Ohlm don't have time for the tube operator to tube-block them.
    • When Olive and Otto leave Precinct 13579 for good, Oscar is the one who sends them up the tubes. And despite a slight mishap at the beginning, he does so with perfect skill.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Odd Todd's plan is to keep Olive from leaving Precinct 13579 by creating a problem big enough that Ms. O will force her to stay and fix it. However, not only does he sorely underestimate how powerful Olive is (considering she stopped the pienado that he caused, and was her former partner to boot), but he doesn't realize that Ms. O could just let Olive go to her precinct once the problem is resolved.
  • Dissonant Serenity: The Main 4 and the rest of the agents quickly rush to the bullpen as soon as they hear the chaotic sounds of escaped creatures above them. Ohlm, on the other hand, just calmly announces that he's going on break and casually walks away. (Although, considering who he really is, this is likely justified.)
  • The Ditz: Ohlm. Oh so much. Little does Otto know, however...
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: Everyone in the precinct celebrates Odd Todd's defeat, up until it's revealed that Otto let out all of the creatures from all of the doors in the process, leading up to the ultimate battle.
  • Dragged by the Collar: Befitting his No Sense of Personal Space tendencies, Odd Todd pulls Otto towards his section of his lair by his arm.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Otto has to go through hell and back throughout the episode as he struggles to cope with his partner and best friend moving on without him, but after working hard to permanently defeat Odd Todd and all of the creatures he inadvertently released into Headquarters, he gets to be promoted to a Director and go with Olive.
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite Orville being a Jerkass who has engaged in Unsportsmanlike Gloating during the Jackie Awards since the caveman times, Ms. O is willing to set all of it behind her and make amends with him.
  • Energy Weapon: These are both Olive and Otto's primary methods of attack, using various gadgets that fire laser beams at various oddities. Oscar also uses one.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Subverted. Once Odd Todd is rid of, Ohlm rushes right up to the group of agents and accuses Otto of working with Odd Todd, revealing that he's been listening to his partner's phone calls with the ex-agent. Otto denies the accusation, and it's eventually revealed that he wasn't working for Odd Todd legitimately — he was a Fake Defector.
  • The Exit Is That Way: Odd Todd attempts to leave Otto by taking the cardboard box he came in with him and going to find a mailbox. He walks past Otto only to come across a sidewalk filled with snow, and he realizes that there's a mailbox in the opposite direction and heads that way instead.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: While Odd Todd is an Evil Genius who loves creating oddness, there is only so much oddness he can take before he cracks.
Odd Todd: Ot- Otto, Otto, STOP!!
Otto: What do you mean, "stop"? You're Odd Todd! You love oddness.
Odd Todd: Yeah, to a point! I have other interests, like gardening! This is too much. You're going to destroy the world!
    Otto: I can't lose Olive.
Odd Todd: I can't do this. You keep the odd, I'll keep the Todd! I am outta here! [leaves through the doors of the tube lobby]
  • Facial Dialogue: True to his hammy ways, Odd Todd pulls off some fantastic face expressions, such as this.
  • Family of Choice: After being promoted, Otto outright states that Ms. O and Oscar were like a family to him. Considering the age range, it's possible that Otto might view them as Like Brother and Sister (though for Ms. O, it's heavily debatable given her status as Older Than They Look).
  • The Fellowship Has Ended: This episode puts an end to the Main 4, as Olive and Otto leave for another precinct. However, two new agents soon take their place, and they, along with Ms. O and Oscar, form a new Main 4.
  • Final Battle: The climax of the episode includes a battle with the Main 4, as well as a host of other agents (Owen, O'Malley, Oren, Olaf, Oksana, Dr. O, Owen, Orchid, Oz and Octavia), fighting all of the odd creatures that Otto inadvertently released.
  • Friendship Moment: This episode might as well be called Friendship Moment: The Episode — it's one of the most impressive displays of Olive and Otto's friendship to date, with him defeating the person that made her suffer the most while she questions if Otto's doing okay with his new partner and refuses to be an Odd Squad Director if he doesn't come with her.
  • Give Me a Sword: A variant; Ms. O orders O'Malley to "sword me" just before she fights the dragon.
  • Good-Times Montage: Overlaps with Sad-Times Montage and is parodied — Otto remembers the good times that he and Olive had on various cases. However, the montage turns out to be a slideshow playing from Olive's old computer, which Ohlm asks Otto to stop.
  • Group Hug: The Main 4 all share one shortly before Olive and Otto's departure.
  • Harmless Freezing: Otto manages to freeze the spider-cat, and while it looks startled, it can still blink.
  • Hates Wearing Dresses: Olive doesn't like the skirt that comes with her female Director's outfit, and as soon as she's promoted, she's quick to ask if she has to wear it. By the climax of the episode, she's shown wearing pants instead of the usual skirt.
  • Human Mail: Odd Todd places himself inside of a cardboard box and mails himself to Otto, in his winter clothes and everything. He tells the agent that it was the only way to contact him and emailing himself wasn't an option.
  • Humanshifting: Olive shapeshifts into a caveman as part of The Plan, complete with a club.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Olive is presented with a myriad of options for her signature drink, many of which don't look safe for consumption (some are even boiling and look more like science experiments than anything else). She eventually picks a glass of what looks like chocolate milk, and then this happens:
Olive: [takes a sip, coughs and gags] What is this?!
Oscar: Dirt with water! I wanted to give you all options.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Both Olive and Otto are able to fire both of their Energy Weapon gadgets and have the beams hit a robot princess dead-on. Without even looking behind them. This is in stark contrast to the robot princess itself, whose beams breeze right by Otto (at one point, one of them nearly hits him in the shoulder but ultimately misses).
  • Insistent Terminology: As an Odd Squad Director, the phrase to use when addressing two of your agents is "Something very odd has happened". Olive botches up the line by saying "something super odd has happened" instead, only for Ms. O to sharply correct her.
  • Instant Costume Change: The Ms. O-inator has the ability to turn any person's clothes into the attire that female Odd Squad Directors wear. The Mr. O-inator does the same thing, except it turns a person's clothes into a male Odd Squad Director's attire (with the differences being pants and a tie instead of a skirt and a necklace).
  • Ironic Echo Cut: Olive asks Oscar if Otto's faring well with his new partner. Oscar responds by saying that Otto gets along with everybody and that they're likely attached to the hip by now. Cut to the tube lobby, where Otto and Ohlm are literally attached to the hip, and aren't getting along at all.
  • Ironic Echo: Otto becomes ridden with anxiety over enacting Odd Todd's Evil Plan, and says that he's not sure that he can do it, and that maybe it isn't bad having Ohlm as a partner. Upon having a single interaction with Ohlm, Otto remarks, "Okay, I'm definitely doing this."
  • Jump Scare: Odd Todd scaring Otto by greeting him via his lair's door's peephole functions as this, as it's accompanied by the sound of the door to the peephole opening and a horror music sting to go ith it.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Before charging into battle, Otto performs the hand gesture; however, there's no powerful Wave-Motion Gun or anything of the sort that comes from it.
  • Keep the Reward: Ultimately averted when Coach Roberts attempts to thank Otto for saving him from the spider-cat by offering him two tickets to a Burly Bears basketball game being played that night. It's implied that Otto doesn't want that as a reward, but then has a "Eureka!" Moment and takes the tickets, gifting one to Olive so she can attend the game with him.
    Otto: I'll take 'em.
Coach Roberts: But you don't like sports.
Otto: [confidently] No I do not.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: Otto tells Ohlm that the two should split up and knock on doors when coming across a Bound and Gagged Polly Graph.
  • Like a Son to Me: Odd Todd tells Otto at one point that he always viewed him as an uncle.
  • Literal Metaphor: Ms. O tells Otto that she and Orville's rivalry is "water under the bridge." She presses a button on her remote, and the screen behind her shows an actual bridge with water under it.
    • When Olive and Oscar are discussing Otto and his new partner, Oscar remarks that they're attached to the hip. Cut to Ohlm and Oscar, who are indeed attached to the hip via a belt so they can ride the tubes together in one ball.
  • Losing Your Head: Inverted for Sheila; her head is gone, but she is still able to move the rest of her body.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Odd Todd jumps at the chance to prey on Otto's varied emotions surrounding Olive departing, and gives the agent a chance to hold her back from going if he joins his side. It appears that Otto does defect from Odd Squad for good and joins forces with the ex-agent, but the episode later reveals that this was simply a ploy to defeat him, and that Otto eventually came to terms with his partner leaving.
    • To an extent, Ohlm also fits the trope, as he manages to fool Otto into thinking he's just an idiotic agent when he's anything but.
  • Medium Awareness: While there have been numerous moments of characters Breaking the Fourth Wall throughout the show (not to mention the many in-universe soundtrack uses in the form of the badge phone ringtones and other comedy gags), this episode heavily implies, if not outright confirms that Olive and Otto are well aware of their statuses as characters on a TV show. It's only cemented further by Olive's Aside Comment to the director ("Don't worry, he's a professional") and Otto shouting out his actions the way actors do on set when making his way to Sheila to restore her head. The Odd Squad Agent's Handbook would later reveal that Ms. O herself is aware she's in a TV show as well, as she was approached by Philo T. Farnsworth in 1927 about making a show, only for her to suggest he try again in 87 years, 2014 — the year that the show first premiered.
  • Mickey Mousing: Happens unintentionally when various items in Ms. O's office go berserk after Olive presses the wrong button. The girls' sounds of surprise, the tubes banging, and Olive's surprised "Oh!" upon seeing Ms. O's car all sync up to the background music.
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: The spider-cat is a creature with the legs of a tarantula and the head of a cat.
  • Moment Killer: A non-romantic version occurs when a web developer named Carl interrupts Odd Todd's Evil Laugh (and Evil Gloating) by offering him some sushi. Odd Todd is quick to say yes. He later kills the moment again by interrupting Odd Todd and asking him to sign a birthday card meant for Matt, another web developer. This time, Odd Todd declines and says he's busy, and Carl leaves the card on his desk.
  • Mood Whiplash: Double-subverted and played for laughs when Olive goes from telling Otto how excited she is, to being completely serious as she asks Ms. O if the skirt is required or if pants are an option, then back to being excited as she departs from the office while bouncing up and down excitedly.
  • The Moving Experience: The episode has shades of this — the precinct that Olive is moving to is in the next town over and isn't far; Otto knows this, but Odd Todd convinces him that if Olive moves away, he'll never see her again, and attempts to convince Otto to join him in order to hold Olive back from moving. Otto does, but it's revealed near the climax that Otto has come to terms with Olive moving away and him joining Odd Todd was done to permanently get rid of him. By the end of the episode, he gets to be a Co-Director alongside Olive in the same precinct.
  • Multi-Part Episode: The final one of Season 1.
  • New Friend Envy: Odd Todd attempts to invoke this when manipulating Otto, telling him that when Olive moves to another precinct, she will make new friends and completely forget about him.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Otto ends up releasing every single creature from all of the hallways, leading up to the Final Battle with said creatures wreaking havoc in the bullpen.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Odd Todd, natch, even moreso than the last episode. It's mostly prominent when he first confronts Otto about Olive while the former is trying to find the spider-cat.
  • Nose Tapping: Otto does this when scratching Polly's nose.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The first time we see Otto at the Bears' basketball game, he is shown looking disheartened that Olive wasn't able to make it, and when Larry spots him with his head down and asks him if he's okay, he says that he has to go talk to someone. Near the climax of the episode, when Ohlm confronts Otto about working with Odd Todd, we see what really happened via Flashbacks: Olive did make it to the basketball game, but was late, and it was then that Otto informed her of his meetup with Odd Todd earlier that day. Olive suggested that she and Otto talk to Ms. O, but when the pair began to leave, Otto asked her to wait up as he tied his shoes, hence why his head was bent down. He and Olive then went to Ms. O, where she, Oscar, Otto and Olive formulated a plan to stop Odd Todd for good, using gadgets that Oscar invented that allowed the ability to shapeshift into various odd creatures. Otto then states that his motivation wasn't keeping Olive back, but rather, it was getting rid of Odd Todd for good.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: While it's no secret that Olive is this to an extent, this episode implies that she's able to take on Oscar's Oscarbots and their Combining Mecha form with ease. For some perspective: this form looms over Oscar and Ms. O and was only shown in a Shadow Discretion Shot beforehand — not only that, but it's implied that they are evil and more powerful in this form. After the climactic battle, she is also shown carrying three stacked cinder blocks with relatively minimal effort compared to Otto, who has more trouble with carrying just one cinder block.
  • P.O.V. Cam: One is attached to the front of Otto's Cool Shades that enables Odd Todd to see what Otto can see so he can track the agent as he sets the plan in motion.
  • The Plan: Once Otto informs the rest of the Main 4 of Odd Todd's resurgence, they form a plan in order to oust him for good: have Otto turn to his side, become his temporary minion, and follow the ex-agent's own agenda of destroying Headquarters by releasing every creature inside of it (which are the agents in disguise). It ends up working, and the sheer amount of creatures released overwhelms Odd Todd and causes him to make a hasty escape.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Odd Todd delivers a badass one just before he rushes off to meet up with Otto.
    O'Malley: You're...you're...you're- you're Odd Todd!
    Odd Todd: And you're pudding.
[zaps O'Malley with the Pudding-inator; cue Evil Laugh]
    • Ms. O also delivers one when Otto attempts to apologize to her for letting all the creatures out, just before everyone delivers a hearty, unisonant "For Odd Squad!!" before rushing into battle.
    Otto: Sorry, Ms. O.
Ms. O: What do you mean, "sorry"? I was starting to get a little rusty.
  • Pronouncing My Name for You: Ohlm tells Otto to pronounce his name "Ohlm", like how it's spelled. What follows is Otto saying his name correctly, only for him to be corrected. And then he tells him that he's not pronouncing the K.
Otto: What "K"? [to Ms. O] What's happening?
  • Put on a Bus: Olive and Otto leave to become co-Directors in another town's precinct. By extension, their actors, Dalila Bela and Filip Geljo, also leave the show, although they would return two final times: as cameos in "First Day", and for The Movie. (Dalila Bela would also reprise her role as Olive for the OddTube episode "Interview with Olive" before officially departing from the show.)
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Odd Squad ends up winning the fight against the released creatures, but it comes at the cost of having their headquarters mostly destroyed. It's downplayed, however, as according to "First Day", cleanup didn't take that long, and some new places were added to boot.
  • Quantity vs. Quality: Otto invokes this as part of his own plan to drive away Odd Todd for good, releasing a mass amount of creatures and other oddities to quickly overwhelm him. Unfortunately, while he did release creatures that are really his co-workers in disguise, he also released the creatures and oddities that weren't.
  • Rank Up: Olive gets promoted to Director of Orville's precinct in his place, and the episode revolves primarily around how Otto handles the news. By the end of the episode, he gets promoted to Director alongside Olive.
  • Really 700 Years Old: It's revealed that, like Ms. O, Orville is millennia old, and has served Odd Squad as a Director for 2,000 years.
  • Rejected Apology: Otto apologizes to Ms. O for letting all of the creatures out of their rooms. The Director, however, welcomes another chance to fight something.
  • Running Gagged: This episode resolves the "If Sheila could see me now" Running Gag — "Sheila" turns out to be a woman starring in an Odd Squad knockoff show known as the Bizarre Brigade, and has a missing head for an odd problem. Olive and Otto show up on set and manage to restore her head, meaning that Sheila can see people now.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Odd Todd pulls this when he quickly becomes overwhelmed by all of the odd creatures advancing on him and Otto. This effectively becomes his defeat, as by his next appearance, he is fully reformed.
  • Season Finale: For Season 1.
  • Series Fauxnale: Similar to the Littlest Pet Shop (2012) example on the trope page, this show also carries the "write every season finale as though it will be the Grand Finale" policy, and "O is Not For Over" is no exception (despite the title). When Season 2 was greenlit by PBS Kids, "First Day" became a sequel to this episode.
  • Serious Business: Picking a signature drink is part of the training needed to become an Odd Squad Director, and it's apparently an important part of being one.
  • Ship Tease: There is a load of it between Olive and Otto in this episode, natch — up to and including a moment wherein a newly-promoted Otto asks Olive if they have to be married since they now hold the respective titles of Mr. and Ms. O, followed by Olive having an absolutely horrified reaction and her telling him not to make it weird (which serves as a Take That! to shippers).
  • Silly Walk: Olive doesn't exit Ms. O's office by walking normally — she bounces, with enough excitement that could give Pinkie Pie a run for her money. Otto even tries to follow her as she goes up and down.
  • Spiritual Antithesis: An in-universe example — Bizarre Brigade is essentially Odd Squad but with a limited set, and adults instead of kids as the core cast.
  • Squish the Cheeks: Odd Todd does this with Otto at one point when the pair meet up in Headquarters.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Ohlm manages to do this as soon as Olive leaves Ms. O's office, appearing right beside Otto.
  • invoked They Copied It, So It Sucks!: Implied with Bizarre Brigade, which is exactly like Odd Squad, only with an adult cast instead of kids. Olive even suggests to the director that Bizarre Brigade might work better with a cast of kids and not adults.
  • Studio Audience: Otto's act of restoring Sheila's head is met with a round of applause from all of the cast and crew in the studio, with some giving Otto high-fives. Olive responds to the applause in kind before she and her partner leave:
Olive: Have a great day, everyone! Thank you!
  • Suddenly Shouting: Odd Todd manages to invert the trope when Otto is unable to crack the pattern needed to retrieve Owen's tablet.
Otto: [in a low whisper] It didn't open! You were wrong!
Odd Todd: I'M NEVER WRONG!! [whispering] Look at it again!
  • Supervillain Lair: Odd Todd's lair looks more like an office than anything else, with half of the space rented out to web developers, and the other half being his own. He states that his old lair was more dark and mysterious, but it was too hard to read anything, so he re-did it.
  • Suspicious Missed Messages: Downplayed; Otto calls Olive's phone enough times to fill up her answering machine, but he's not so much worried that she's in danger as he is upset that he doesn't get to spend time with her. Eventually she does manage to reach the game and apologizes for being late.
  • Take That!: Otto asking Olive if the two of them have to be married, and Olive's horrified reaction, can be seen as criticism aimed at fans who invoked ship the two.
  • Taking Up the Mantle: Polly Graph lampshades the fact that Otto is now the more sensible one of him and Ohlm by calling him "the Olive". Otto doesn't take kindly to it and shudders.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Otto and Ohlm definitely don't work well together as partners and have poor chemistry, but are forced to anyway as they need to defeat a spider-cat. Naturally, Otto ends up being the one who defeats it himself when it shows up at Coach Roberts' house.
    • Ohlm and Orchid are later partnered up at the end of the episode upon Otto's promotion, though their partnership wouldn't be explored until "Partner Problems".
  • Thinking Out Loud: Otto invokes this after he runs into Ohlm.
Otto: I don't know if I can do this. Maybe it's not so bad with Ohlm-
Otto: [to Odd Todd] Give me a sec.
Ohlm: Who are you talking to?
Otto: No one! I'm talking to myself, I'm having a me party all alone!
  • Transformation Trinket: The headgear that the Main 4 and the rest of the agents wear function like this, as it grants the ability for the wearer to shapeshift into any odd creature or being.
  • Unrobotic Reveal: When Odd Todd is driven out of Headquarters for good, the two robot princesses who advance on Otto suddenly reveal themselves to be Oscar and Ms. O, who shapeshifted into robot princesses as part of The Plan.
  • We Can Rule Together: Odd Todd offers for Otto to join the side of villainy in order to create enough oddness that would keep Olive in Precinct 13579, and thus, maintain their friendship. Naturally, Otto refuses ("I'll never join you"), but eventually does join him after seemingly considering it. However, near the climax, it's revealed that Otto was a Fake Defector who went along with Odd Todd's plan in order to drive him away for good with a mass amount of creatures advancing on him, causing him to turn tail and run.
  • Wham Episode: It's a Season Finale, what did you expect?
    • Olive gets promoted to Odd Squad Director of the precinct that Orville runs. By the end of the episode, Otto gets promoted to co-Director alongside her.
    • Odd Todd preys on Otto's emotions regarding Olive's Rank Up in order to coerce him into being on his side. It ends up working for a time, but he soon becomes overwhelmed when Otto releases every creature into Headquarters and makes his escape. It turns out to be a ploy put together by the Main 4 and the other agents of the precinct, having disguised themselves as creatures. This marks the end of his villainy, as "Mid-Day in the Garden of Good and Odd" shows him reformed as a gardener, having made a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Worldbuilding: This episode shows Odd Todd's lair for the first time, and expands on the training agents receive upon being promoted to Odd Squad Directors (picking your signature drink, addressing your agents, and strength training). It also reveals that agents must pass a tube test in order to use Tube Travel.
