- Sixes and Sevens: Emily Gower walked 314 miles from Toulon to Geneva in five days after a security breach caused the rest of her SOE cell to collapse, and delivered important documents when she arrived.
- Zuko from Embers (Vathara). The GAang assumes that getting blasted off a mountain killed him simply because he did not show up the next day to snarl at them.
- A few chapters later, he actually DID come back and snarl at them after saving them from an Avatar possessed by an angry spirit.
- The Journeyverse.
- Xander. One particular example is in Fallen Angel when he keeps getting up to fight Glory (a hellgod) and almost kills himself defeating her.
- Dragan from the same fight.
- All For One in All For Luz. He is STILL completely obsessed with claiming One For All for himself (as it houses the spirit of his younger brother whom he had always wanted by his side in his schemes) even after dying to it at All Might's back in his world. Not even experiencing death by its hands can dissuade him. He now plans to use Luz as an Unwitting Pawn from her Mental World to get back to the My Hero Academia world via the Boiling Isles to achieve this.
- Ga'ri in the early parts of Big Sister, still trying to recover from the Gadget Drone incident mentioned in StrikerS carries a baby across a volcanic Death World with what little power she has left, crippling herself again in the process, then manages to fight off a lethal infection and regain use of both her legs and her magic, this time without the help of high-Magitek rehabilitation facilities.
- Shinji from Children of an Elder God is pretty pliable and passive, but he can become a determinator when something important is at stake. In chapter 8, he wouldn't stop fighting in spite of his enemy's overwhelming power because he would not fail Asuka and Rei.
- The Five-Man Band and the Big Bad and his Dragon in Children of Time: the (Tenth) Doctor, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, Beth Lestrade, Sally Sparrow, the TARDIS, Professor Moriarty, and Colonel Moran.
- It should be noted that, while though some of the heroes make Deals with the Devil, they still do so to protect loved ones at all costs.
- The TARDIS comes across as very stubborn and mother hen-ishly protective of her Time Lord and his Companions.
- Moriarty is unbelievably determined to survive at any cost...
- Moran spends several months hunting a seventeen-year-old girl. Considering that he spent over two years hunting Holmes, however, the surprise is not that he kept up the hunt but that the hunt kept him up.
- Code Prime:
- Optimus Prime's willpower is unbreakable. He actually manages to overcome Megatron's Dark Geass, something Code Geass establishes as being practically impossible, through pure willpower, and some help from the Matrix.
- Lelouch has just a strong will as well, especially when the Decepticons attack the Ark. The events before the attack, Megatron attempted to break Lelouch's will by showing that he reanimated Marianne's body with Dark Energon to power the Dark Queen Knightmare. In spite of this and the fact that the Omniglobe he was using during the battle put a strain on his mind, he was able to successfully coordinate the defense of the Ark, and hand Megatron his first real defeat.
- In Fullmetal Alchemist/Attack on Titan Crossover, Dedicated Hearts made Fullmetal
slowly has Mina Carolina a Recurring Extra of the 104th Cadets Corps evolve into this as she survives the Battle of Trost thanks to Alphonse Elric, and over the course of the story grows into her own character as a member of the Scouts capable of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of The Shiganshina Trio, even becoming the new Female Titan in the process.I'm still here and so long as I'm here, I'll keep going! - Littlepip from Fallout: Equestria:I would fight to to make that bright and innocent past our future again. Even if it means dashing myself against the evil and cruelty of this wasteland until there is nothing left of me. And then, when I am too broken to go on, I will float my dying body right down into the throat of the darkness and make it choke on me.Or, you know, this could all end in sunshine and rainbows. No need to get pessimistic.
- In The Good Hunter, this trope is the prerequisite for anyone who aspires to join the Wild Hunt. Skill and experience are merely secondary to possessing the will to see things through. It is noted that as an agent of the Wild Hunt, being determined does not mean the same as being stubborn — they also have to understand when to show mercy and when to disregard it all the same, meaning that it is essential for them to be disciplined determinators.
- In A Hero, Dalek Sec describes the Last Great Time War thus to Homura: On one side, The Time Lords, undisputable masters of the universe and the most experienced Temporal Power there is. On the other, the Daleks, a race born in a world torn apart by war and with a technology that was woefully behind that of the Time Lords. The only thing going for the pepperpots? Sheer, bloody-minded determination.
- Hybrid Theory. Determination is sufficiently central to the magical system and core plot that little can be said without spoiling the whole thing, except for "Holy crap!" and "Did you just punch out <censored>?"
- Last Child of Krypton:
- Being Superman, Shinji does not know the meaning of the word “quitting”. A giant alien monster whose body is an alternate dimension has swallowed his Love Interest and is MindRaping her? He’ll dive into Leliel’s body, enter the illusion, convince Asuka to let him into her mind and burn the alien. Another giant monster with devastating power is flattening the Geofront and the army is about to blow it up with nukes, killing everybody? He’ll pick Zeruel, lift it and will take the impact of dozens of nukes. An ancient God of Evil has set Third Impact off? Shinji’ll wrestle Instrumentality’s control off Darkseid’s hands and will use that power to punch him.
- Rei does not care about being badly hurt. If she has to fight, she will do:Hearing the commander's voice, she stirred. Her one good eye opened and scanned the room fitfully, unable to focus. She settled her blurry gaze on the fluorescent lights above her head and waited as long as she could for the throbbing in her skull to ebb just a bit. It didn't, but she had to answer. She was driven. It was her purpose, her reason for being. Pain was irrelevant, a signal that her body was damaged, nothing more.
- Oni Ga Shiku Series: Izuku owns this trope, especially during the Akatani arc. Within the span of three or four days, preceeded by a week of not really sleeping or eating, he gets trounced by Akatani, solves his riddle to find her, escapes a police station, beats the crap of the entire Yamikumo Family while suffering a concussion that temporarily blinds one of his eyes and something of a mental breakdown, beats Akatani himself, goes to Kamurocho, gets into a fight with Kiryu, gets involved in the shooting outside Millennium Tower, proceeds to storm said tower along with only Saejima (Izuku was the backup), fight against his uncle Majima, and finish it all by Taking the Bullet to save Akatani who underwent a Heel–Face Turn. All of this when he is only ten years old. Oh, and he did not sleep at all in those days or went to see a doctor for his injuries. Kiryu lampshades this:Kiryu: You don't know when to quit, do you.
Izuku: Ya never taught me how. - Paradoxus: All of the Oðrsson females. Playfully lampshaded by King Oritel, who married one of those women, while he looks at his family's portrait and has a goodbye talk to his oldest granddaughter before she parts to the past.Oritel: Ese dragón de bronce no os tenía en cuenta a vosotras. - In the Danny Phantom/Beetlejuice crossover, Say It Thrice, Betelgeuse certainly qualifies. After fighting against the power of an Amplifier Artifact with his own the entire time that Aunt Melinda tries to first exorcise him and then bind him to her will, he gets banished back to the Netherworld. The minute he wakes up, he heads into the Ghost Zone to find another way to reach Lydia. He finds the portal and tries to use it to get out, only to find out it won't work for him without ripping himself apart in the process. And he still only sees this as a delay and intends to figure out another loophole. And when Lydia ends up in danger from Sanduleak, Betelgeuse goes through the portal anyway.
- Superwomen of Eva 2: Lone Heir of Krypton: Asuka hates giving up because in her mind it means she is worthless and useless. It did not matter how hard the fight is or Whether she is fighting as a mecha pilot or as Supergirl. She grits her teeth and fights on. Sometimes she was tempted to stop being a super-heroine because she thought herself unworthy, but she always returned to fight when she was needed.
- In Child of the Storm, this could apply to all the heroes — who never give up, no matter what — but special mention needs to go to Carol Danvers, as during the Final Battle it's revealed that she is literally too stubborn to die.
- Special note must also go to Harry, who survived two days of torture and starvation at the hands of the Red Room, including Essex, a villain with sinister aims, no sense of morality, an extremely thorough understanding of the human body, and Telepathy to boot.
- Lagann of How To Drill Your Way Through Your Problems is this in spades. He starts by fighting through losing an arm, followed by generating a new metal one, before spontaneously regrowing a new arm, and then creating a new Gurren from sheer willpower. What else would you expect from a Spiral Warrior who ended up in Brockton Bay?
- The Secret Return of Alex Mack: By the time Hanna is rescued by the SRI, she is dying of an infection, has a bullet in her abdomen that she's unsuccessfully attempted to remove by herself, and is working on very little sleep. Despite this, Hanna manages to return to Finland from Germany, stowed away on a cargo ship for days with nothing but two jars to relieve herself, and is awake, alert, and combat-ready.
- Glass Joe in Total Drama Infinite, who takes a brutal beating from DIO during a boxing challenge to the point where the latter's forced to pull out his Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs just to keep him down.
- Rena Rogue proves herself to be one on Miraculous Escalation. During a city-wide battle against The Fallen, she is bleeding from her eyes, ears, mouth, and nose, and she can barely move her fingers due to the second-degree burns covering her body. And yet, she refuses to stop playing her flute, because to do so would be to let Mama Mathers use her power on innocent people.
- In Code Geass: Mao of the Deliverance, Mao definitely qualifies. He gambles, blackmails, steals, does drugs, flies through a frickin hurricane, takes on soldiers and terrorists and gets shot repeatedly all in his quest to save C.C. and be with her forever.
- Parodied in All You Need Is Love:Matsuda (throwing himself against a door, repeatedly): You know… Duck… I don't think this is working…
Duck: I'm sure you'll get it eventually. The trick is to keep trying and to believe in yourself, then any task can be accomplished. Or so public educational television tells me. - In the climax of Fever Dreams Light holds the Death Note in the fire until it burns to ash even though his hands are burning along with it.
- Light and Misa in Gods of This New World but especially Misa, who gets up and keeps fighting after she's been stabbed in the chest with a sword.
- Tamers Forever Series:
- Takato. If continuing to fight againgst a hoard of Mega level digimon. despite the fact that your clothes are literaly soaked in your own blood, and you are almost paralysed from your brain cells dying doesn't count as this, nothing does.
- Daemon as well.Takeru: "Daemon is an extremely powerful foe, and his power has increased in the past fifteen years. His anger and desire for vengeance makes him practically invincible, a berserk fighter who will do anything to win."
Takato: "But…my friends will never give up! Rika will never give up!"
Takeru: "Neither will he."
- In Dragon Age: The Crown of Thorns, the Wise Prince protagonist keeps on going and pulling one plan after another, even though the fact he grew up in a Decadent Court could have long ago turned him into a self-centered cynic. He also displayed a high physical resilience in the deep roads, up until he stumbled upon a certain someone else and finally decided to allow himself to faint after two days of no sleep, fighting, getting repeatedly injured, tried for fratricide that never happened, dragged through streets in chains, spat on and generally not having a very nice time.
- Dragon Ball Z Elsewhere: What Yamcha tries to be after the Cell's saga. Goku is also this when he fights Heiwa, and actually leaves Heiwa bloody and injured after their fight, but he ultimately loses.
- In The Odyssey, this Ulyssian's defining trope; he is forever striving to equal and surpass his more powerful classmates, who are all Dragon-Blooded. It's a rather grim interpretation of the trope.
- In the Firefly fic Forward, Mal shows his canon tendencies, but on top of that there's Book, who pulls a You Shall Not Pass! when defending River from Reavers. As the story progresses, River herself becomes one as well, up to the "Fourth Interlude" chapter, where little things like a bunch of cracked ribs or having a leg broken, getting shot in the stomach, and getting a concussion from a ricocheting bullet don't stop her from kicking ass.
- A Flower's Touch: Aerith is bound and determined to succeed in SOLDIER, no matter what it takes. It gets to the point that she becomes so obsessed with it that Sephiroth has to actually order her to take some time off and go see her mother.
Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi / The Untamed
- An Acceptable Arrangement: Hou Yue, the first wife of Sect Leader Nie, is an iron-willed woman who is willing to risk her marriage, reputation within the cultivation world, and position in the Unclean Realm to get Qinghe an heir. Later on, she is ready to do whatever it takes to deliver her baby alive. This includes dying.
- Harry James Potter Evans Verres of Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality becomes this in chapter 89 after Hermione gets killed by the troll. It's not good news for the safety of the universe.
- He was a Determinator before Hermoine died as he went up against a Dementor, was told many times that you can't kill one, and then killed one anyway because his natural desire to conquer death.
- From the first Hells Kitchen Roleplay Amateurs edition, there's Heather, whose strong leadership would often be undermined by the extremely poor red team. However, she would not give up trying, and she eventually managed to win against odds-on-favorite Adrian.
- A trait of the Haddocks in Persephone both to their benefit and detriment is that their stubbornness means it's hard for them to change their minds once they're set on a goal; for example, Stoick refuses to believe Hiccup when he tells him that the Red Death is too powerful for even an army of Vikings. Valka is little better as she is so set in her mindset that Vikings can't change their attitudes about dragons that she refuses to go along with Hiccup's plans to end the war, citing herself, Hiccup and Astrid as being exceptions to the rule.
- Hirose Koichi's Uneventful Trip to Italy:
- Rikiel inherited this from both Jonathan and DIO. When dealing with the possibility that his mother and stepfather had abandoned him again, this time in Florence, Italy, he's dedicated to find them in Rome. Koichi remarks that while Rikiel is timid, he has the same resolve as the rest of the Joestar Bloodline.
- As in canon, Bruno Buccarati is this, his willpower letting him fight to protect his teammates and Trish Una against the Boss of Passione even after being killed and his soul operating his corpse. In the final chapter, his willpower keeps him in the mortal plane long enough for the Speedwagon Foundation to repair his body.
- The Princess Who Carries the Blood of the Goddess: The plot is flipped so that Zelda was the one who was injured and placed in the Shrine of Resurrection, while Link was the one who went to face the Calamity alone. Meaning that he has been fighting—literally fighting, as in swinging his sword—for a hundred years. He has no magic, no immortality, no divine powers, just a sword that is good against evil things. He doesn't even have food. And somehow he is still fighting.Mipha: Hylia is wrong, and your father is wrong, and Ganon is wrong. He will never break. For a hundred years or ten thousand, he will fight for us. For you. He will never fall. He'll just... suffer.
- In Juxtapose, Stain is so fanatical and determined that he manages to retain his sense of self and personality even after being turned into a Noumu.
- In Neither a Bird nor a Plane, it's Deku!, Bakugou is left with grievous scarring across his arm and chest after nearly being killed as a child by Izuku's accidental overuse of his Super-Strength. Despite these injuries and the vast majority of his peers ignoring him in favor of Izuku at U.A., Bakugou remains hellbent on becoming the number one Hero, earning more Villain Points than anyone else at the entrance exam.
- Izuku in Pro Hero Metal Bat is a more successful case than in canon. His style of fighting amount to ignoring damage and hitting back harder. He spends several minutes with a bullet in his arm and doesn't realize it.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
- Major Shane t. Doran, from ARTICLE 2. When completely surrounded, wounded, and telekinetically pinned to the ground by Luna, he still struggles. It takes a knockout spell to subdue the man.
- Greg, the protagonist of the recursive fanfic Friendship Is Optimal: Always Say No doesn't even seem to know the meaning of the phrase "give up", given how determined he is. Even being blown up won't stop him from trying.
- Jericho (MLP) has the eponymous narrator, Jericho, a stallion from the nation of Teutschland. He appears to be this, since he walked to Equestria, where the story begins, all the way from his homeland of Teutschland, which is across the world and several oceans from Equestria.According to Jericho in the summary: "Still, with enough wit, some Prussian ingenuity, a droll sense of humor, and wanton murder, I might just survive this. Then again, when you’re going up against an unending list of things like government conspiracies, that guardian angel who keeps telling you to kill people, psycho Equestrian girls with allophilia, a lunatic princess, the legions of the Inferno, the Equestrian culture itself, swashbuckling sword fights, and laissez-faire economists, you begin to realize why there’s a big “if” in the middle of your life."
- The Party Never Ended has the poor addle-sounding Derpy Hooves determined to fight the supernatural storm, no matter what. And the climax features a Battle in the Center of the Mind. In one corner, the entity that drove Luna into Nightmare Moon via Break the Cutie. In the other, Pinkie Pie with Twilight Sparkle helping. Then Rainbow Dash with Pinkie Pie helping. Then Pinkie Pie by herself. Break The Breaker Of Cuties, anypony?
- In the Pony POV Series, the Mane Cast and their Sixth Ranger Trixie stop at nothing to defeat Nightmare Whisper, Fluttershy's Superpowered Evil Side, and save her from herself. By the end of the battle, Pinkie Pie and Applejack are severely cut up by glass (Pinkie Pie from being throw out of a glass window and Applejack from having glass daggers embedded in her back), Twilight and Rainbow Dash have both been sent dangerously close to the Despair Event Horizon, and Trixie has been electrocuted and broken one or more ribs. But the one who takes the cake is Rarity, who has her legs broken and keeps herself in the fight by moving her legs with telekinesis! And then Fluttercruel fights her way out of a Jury of the Damned, getting pretty much mauled by demonic creatures, to get back to help save Fluttershy. She then proceeds to tear the tubes connecting her to Nightmare Whisper out 'by hand, despite the agonizing pain it causes.
- This is actually a distinct plot point from a "side story" (Alternate Universe, but declared part of the POV multiverse by Word of God). An alternate Discord notes that the Ponies of the "Reharmonized" timeline, "Would never give up, no matter how hopeless the situation."
- Also happens with Queen Cadence in the Dark World Timeline. She promised Twilight Tragedy she'd redeem her, but was vaporized before she could. Five hundred years later, her spirit appears to Twilight when she's suffering a Villainous BSoD and helps guide her back to the light, just like she promised.
- Dark World!Derpy. To put this in perspective, she endured 1000 years of living Hell so Discord would remove the curse from Dinky. She marched around Discord's palace, assaulted constantly by crows trying to eat Dinky, and according to Dinky herself, she never let them touch her. And she did this with crippled wings and legs. Is it any wonder at all she becomes an Element of Loyalty? After she's healed by the redeemed six and Dinky is restored, this determination extends to protecting her new friends. Prime Derpy is equally determined. In fact, Derpy's cutie mark is implied to represent her undying will, and alternate timelines were she became a deity normally describe her as Goddess of Determination (and Mailmares), meaning Derpy is the ULTIMATE example of this trope in the Pony POV Series.
- Sunset Shimmer, from Seven Days in Sunny June, is willing to face down date rape gangs, nightmarish unicorns and a death threat from Princess Celestia if it means saving those she loves.
- In Just Before the Dawn, this is one of Tercio's defining characteristics, and what brings him to Celestia's attention. No magic, super strength, or flight, just determination and willpower.
- In The Witch of the Everfree, when Applejack is on a quest to kill the timberwolf that killed her parents, Sunset Shimmer gets this line:She gave me a determined look, the kind only a foal with no sense of self-preservation could have. I was pretty sure I’d given ponies that exact look a few times.
- In Stroll, Octavia will not give up on trying to get home. Best shown by this line in the second chapter:She would. No matter if it took hours. Or days. Or weeks. Or even months. She'd find her way back home.
- Naruto in The Sealed Kunai. While fighting Hidan and Kakuzu, he holds Kakuzu inside his barrier trap jutsu for one full minute while being sympathetically mutilated by Hidan, who is specifically trying to break his handseal. It eventually lapses when Hidan actually stabs through his hand, but enough time was bought for help to arrive.
- In Vapors, in addition to the canonical examples, Aiko is repeatedly held up as an example. Due to her high intelligence and maturity, her apprenticeship instead of being on a genin team, and her past successes, Aiko has been unintentionally conditioned to soldier on through horrible circumstances in pursuit of her goal without asking for help. During her time infiltrating Root she nearly has several breakdowns due to the workload and emotional toll, but continues developing her plan alone for months. Then a new development means that she needs to end things right now, at which point she recruits Sai to help and finishes things in less than a day.
- Shikako in Dreaming of Sunshine tends to rely more on her brains and foreknowledge than on her determination, but when push comes to shove, she doesn't hesitate to get nasty. She keeps coming at Orochimaru with the intent to kill him, even though she knows it's utterly hopeless, because it's the only thing she can do at that point. Her constant attacking and unwavering intent forces the shell-shocked Sasuke back into the fight just by dragging him along in her wake."Sasuke! Move!" I barked, putting as much force into my voice as I could.
No 'it's going to be alright'. No 'please, please, move'. No 'you have to'. Because it wasn't going to be alright. Because we didn't have time to plead and beg and come to terms with it.
There was only time to move. And he would only respond to an order.
- A Crown of Stars:
- Before the beginning the story Shinji had stopped hoping for him and Asuka getting together, but he never stopped wanting. His perseverance finally paid off.
- After being told by his wife that she will not forgive him unless their children and Asuka forgive him first, Gendo is determined to earn their forgiveness, not matter what. Even if it seems all but imposible he is determined to do whatever that it takes, and he is willing endure anything.
- Advice and Trust: Rei. Asuka compares her with a Terminator because she never stops. Her finest showing in the battle against Zeruel is actually an example of her Character Development, where she fights her hardest to defend her friends rather than lack of regard for her own life, never gives up and thanks to her resolute attitude she manages killing it in spite of horrible odds.
- Evangelion 303:
- When Asuka ran away, Shinji finally gave up on her? No way! He searched and found a lead, drove one whole day –even though he had no reasons to think that she would remain in one place for so long-, and despite of her stubborn refusals to return, he proposed her.
- Deconstructed with Rei. During a practice she entered a bad flat spin, and she ejected too low because she refused giving up. She got brain damage because of it.
- Ghosts of Evangelion: Shinji was determined to take care of Asuka and never run away again after Third Impact. He kept his promise, no matter what.
- HERZ: Asuka never stopped fighting, not even when the MP-Evas impaled her robot and she felt the pain of getting chopped into pieces and eaten alive. During that ordeal her heart stopped beating... and then it restarted. She survived, recovered and even managed delivering a healthy child.
- In Neon Genesis Evangelion: Genocide, Shinji becomes determined to stay with Asuka and never leave her alone, not matter how much or how harshly she tries to push him away.
- In Once More With Feeling (Crazy-88), Shinji is sick of running away after going back in time. Now that he's got a second chance, he's determined to never give up or quit.
- The One I Love Is...: At the end of episode 11, when Shinji is at his lowest, Misato explains why he can not and must not give up. Thanks to her words he does not give up and he keeps fighting during the Final Battle, even though everything seems lost and he has nothing left, and defeats nine war mechas. And because he did not give up, Asuka survived the battle.
- Shinji became one after Third Impact in The Second Try. Since running, hiding and complaning had got him nowhere, he decided to make an effort to be more determined and resolute.
- Thousand Shinji: One of the key components of Shinji's ideology in this story is keeping hoping and never -ever- giving up. He also instills that way of thinking into Asuka (who refuses to give up and stop fighting, hence she does not try to kill herself during her fall into despair as in canon) and Rei (who endeavours to endure, not matter what).
- During the climax, Misato dies and he loses hope for first time. Then Asuka gets killed and he gets broken. When Rei comes along and tells she can bring them back, Shinji regains hope and he remember that he never, ever, quits. And if he has to storm the Afterlife to rescue Asuka and Misato, he will do so.
- Boiling Isles and Beyond: While he is definitely evil, Tibbles has survived being ravaged by crazed Unicorns and being struck hard enough to shatter every bone in his body while also sent flying into the boiling sea to be broiled alive.
- The Power Rangers GPX turn this into a motto, declaring that they will never quit, surrender, or lose.
- Whenever somebody encounters a Cofagrigus in Pokémon Black & White: Tale of a Legend, they're in for a long chase and a tough battle.
- Laura of Ma Fille will stop at nothing to usurp custody of Katrina from Joe, even when it gets her banned from the WVBA premises and arrested for breaking restraining orders.
- Yang in I Can Almost Hear The Hounds becomes one through a mix of Big Sister Instinct and My Greatest Second Chance, pushing herself through hell and back to save her little sister. Even her thigh muscle tearing in half does little more than slow her down.
- Ruby in the Gorn-laiden Blood Rose becomes one of these - of note is the end of chapter 22, where despite having lost both her legs and had most of the skin on her body burned off by an incendiary barrier, she starts crawling off to escape before her Healing Factor even begins to kick in.
- In the Dark Fic Ill Met by Starlight:
- Nabiki. No matter how terrified she is of Ranma (who here was turned into a psycho by the Nekoken), she resists the impulse to run away just to try and save Akane from him, fully knowing it could end with her having an 'accident' or worse. In the end Ranma does push her under a car in retaliation for her trying and nearly succeeding at killing him, but not even that stops her: while she's in the hospital dying, one of her associates delivers Akane her last message, one that makes her finally realize what Ranma really is, and Nabiki just proves so stubborn to survive in a coma for months when she should have not survived the night.
- Koji and Mariko Hibiki, Ryoga's OC siblings, have been chasing Ranma to kill him in retaliation for him murdering Ryoga, no matter how many times they got lost (at one point they met in Paris). In the end they call it off, but that's because Ranma's madness is now torturing him to the point death would be a release, so Mariko decides to let him wallow in it and Koji takes the chance to call it off before they go too far.
- Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and Davy Wiggins in the Deliver Us from Evil Series:[Holmes] would have died for a secret. But he will live now, for a friend.
Watson: "Porlock, there is no use in arguing the point. I shall search for Holmes. Whether you help me or not is your choice, but you shan't stop me — you have my word on that."
Wiggins: "Mum, I've been running that risk ever since I was a mite. I can't tell you what I'm doing, but I need to see it through. Peter's a fine young man, and he'll take good care of you. I'll come back if I can, I promise."
- Fairly English Story: To the point where it's considered being a pussy if you react to a wound with anything more than casting Dia.
- In By the Fire's Light, no matter how grim it gets, Detective Carl Rourke and Mira Grolinsky never give up in their quest to stop the Slender Man.
- Afterglow (Unfaithful): Among Walker's Fatal Flaws is his utter inability to give up, ever. It's also implied to be the reason he won't kill himself.
- In the Star Wars: Lineage series (and several of the author's other works), Obi-Wan proves himself to be ridiculously stubborn-he will never, ever surrender, even if the odds are so stacked against him that he's almost Driven to Suicide.
- Tarkin's Fist: The general attitude of members of the American and Chinese armies. Individuals might falter, but for both armies surrender is never even considered. Special mention goes to Corporal Justin Mallory, who goes through the worst the Empire has to throw at him and refuses to relent, culminating in his seizing control of the superlaser aboard the Super Star Destroyer Ares. He threatens to blow up the Imperial capital on Mars unless the Empire agrees to a ceasefire. The leadership of the Empire is forced to acquiesce.
- In Kara of Rokyn, Superman endures Parasite's life-drain for over one whole month. When asked about it, Kal-El replies he wouldn't be Superman if he quit.Superman: It’s been... so long in there.
Supergirl: I know. I can’t imagine... Great Rao, Kal. How did you survive?
Superman: I'm still not sure. I just... didn’t want to give up. Luthor was out there. I had to survive so that I could stop him. But... that wasn't all of it. There were people like Lois out there. And Jimmy, Bruce, Perry... all my friends. And you. Even though you were half a galaxy away. I knew I'd never see you again, if I gave up and died. But there was more to it than that. I'm Superman, Kara. And if I made a habit of giving up... well, I wouldn’t be much of a Superman, would I? - In Hellsister Trilogy, Supergirl is thrown into one fight to the death after another, and no matter how badly beaten she gets, she ignores the pain and fights on.
- Optimus and Starscream in Hate the Dark, but mostly Optimus.
- Eugenesis has Galvatron. Imprisoned, damaged and implanted with technology designed to prevent him from transforming ever again, Galvatron still manages to break free, and more importantly, transform, utterly ignoring the fact that the pain and strain of doing so hurts more than anything he's ever experienced.
- Quicken: Emma becomes this after dying and being reborn because giving up got her noseless and dead. When she realized she was buried alive, she broke her coffin and then she dug her way out of her grave out of sheer stubbornness and despair.
