Main Characters

    Saotome Hodaka

Saotome Hodaka - Our Hero... sort of...

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saotome_hodaka.gif
The lone male attending Moteshiro, initially seen as a punching bag for the girls, but is slowly becoming their friend and potential boyfriend/lust object.
  • Accidental Pervert: Saotome has some of the worst luck in the world, often finding himself in compromising situations with the girls, however, they don't blame him... most of the time.
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: When forced to dress as a girl, even Hanako can't help but feel he's cute.
  • Blessed with Suck: Saotome is able to attract almost any girl he interacts with, but his crippling self esteem issues and overall cluelessness hampers him from making any progress.
  • Book Dumb: Actually averted to the point Ushigome and her friends ask him for a copy of his notes to help them study, which backfires when they use it to cheat and drag him in, though they are let off lightly. He only runs into an issue in the midterms because he hyper-focused on making dresses and thought they were a week later, but still pulls it together to pass.
  • Chick Magnet: Although hated at first for being the only guy, his kind and forgiving personality draws the girls to him, even if he wasn't looking for a harem.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Despite his demeanor, he is still attracted to the girls, getting embarrassed when he gets in compromising positions with them.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Not at first, but once Hanako starts helping him workout, he's become noticeably muscular when shirtless by the time of the sports festival, enough to fluster her.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: He has around ten girls fighting for his affection, but his Theory Tunnel Vision is so strong he genuinely thinks they just like to tease him.
  • The Dulcinea Effect: The Dulcinea to Hanako's Don Quixote. Even though they are not officially dating, Saotome has had a real softening effect on Hanako's rougher edges.
  • The First Cut Is the Deepest: After being tricked by Kasumi into believing she was a kind girl only to be nearly blackmailed and extorted by her, he still has trust issues with other girls. Despite it being very clear that several girls have strong feelings for him, he always brushes it aside and genuinely thinks they are just toying with him.
  • Funbag Airbag: On the receiving end of this, thanks to being the main character, the cause of most of his Accidental Pervert moments.
  • Grew a Spine: Hanako states that he has grown one since she first met him, as she noticed him standing up for himself when some girls came into the male bathroom after the new semester.
  • Harem Seeker: Averted. He is perfectly content having these girls as friends and treats them as such.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: One of the main reasons he always assumes the girls are just teasing him, as he can't think of a reason as to why they would genuinely fall for a guy who is "just a loser".
  • It Runs in the Family: His father is just as enthusiastic about fashion as him, with moments of No Sense of Personal Space.
  • Like Brother and Sister: He tells Madoka that he sees her "like a sister". However it is then reveals he did notice her feelings for him, but since he wasn't 100% sure he was reading the room right he said that instead, fearing in case he was wrong.
  • Nice Guy: The main reason so many girls grow fond of Hodaka is because of how nice, helpful and forgiving he is.
  • No Guy Wants to Be Chased: Anytime a girl tries to flirt with him sexually he will usually bolt, as he believes they are just teasing him. And Kasumi did try to blackmail and extort him this way.
  • Not Distracted by the Sexy: Saotome is certainly seems prepared with regards to professionalism for his tailoring aspirations - while he's not immune to getting flustered from the variety of Accidental Pervert situations he gets into with the female cast, he is steely focused on his work whenever he aids them with tailoring, no matter how much it has him touch them. He admits to Hanako in chapter 164 that he can still feel awkward while he was fixing her yukata, but keeps at being efficient about it to end her own embarrassment as soon as possible.
  • Oblivious to Love: Played with. He seems to catch on to the fact several girls have feelings for him, but after recalling how he was tricked by Kasumi he will brush it off and think they are just toying with him. Such as when he told Madoka that she was like a sister to him, he thought she had feelings for him but thought if he was wrong it wouldn't have turned out well.
    • Chapter 79 however...it sees him in private with Ushigome who says she decided to leave the Valentine's chocolate she was going to give him in her desk while starting to strip before him and outright declares "I want to go even further with you!" before stopping herself and telling him they can continue where they left off later as she leaves...Saotome is left confused about what she wanted to continue, decides certainly (somehow) that she wasn't trying to have sex with him, and assumes she was just teasing him again.
  • One of the Girls: Zigzagged once the girls get used to him, those that aren't deliberately teasing him do get a bit too comfortable with him around.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He's very good at designing and tailoring clothes due to his family owning a tailor shop. His schooling clearly shows he's interested in making a career out of it.
  • Shrinking Violet: He is very reluctant about playing along with a lot of the teasing that gets thrown his way. Justified Trope in that with his career of choice having to do with tailoring clothing, the last thing Saotome wants is to obtain a reproachful reputation as some kind of pervert or worse.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: A rare male example of the trope. Saotome comes off initially as a huge pushover, due to being horrifically outnumbered with no support. Once he makes some friends, his backbone firms up and he's willing to stand up to just about anyone, especially if they are threatening the girls from Moteshiro.
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: Technically speaking tailors are seen as a male-oriented job, but he gender inverts the trope with his calm and girly personality.
  • Theory Tunnel Vision: After the incident with Kasumi combined with not being able to see himself as being more than a loser, he fully believes the girls, at best, only see him as someone they enjoy to tease. Despite how obvious the girls make it clear that they have real feelings for him, including Ushigome stripping and suggesting they have sex, he will always default to thinking the girls were just teasing him again.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After months of practicing with Hanako and her fellow martial arts students, Hodaka has become surprisingly good at self-defense, even if he still lacks confidence in his actual fighting skills.
  • Unprovoked Pervert Payback:
    • One of the main reasons the girls at the school avoided him when he started, as they believed the only reason he attended a once All Girl School was because he was a pervert wanting to be surrounded by women. Where in fact the reason he attended is because this was the closest school to him that had a sewing class.
    • He thought this was going to happen to him when his bag was filled with the girls' swimsuits, something Nekomiya did to frame him and get him kicked out of school. Luckily, by that point, the girls knew he would never do that and tried to find the real culprit.
  • Unwanted Harem: Whether he likes it or not, his is shaping up nicely.

    Kuzuryu Hanako

Kuzuryu Hanako - She Who Has Slain 100

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kuzuryu_hanako.gif
The second main character and the first friend that Saotome makes at Moteshiro. Hanako is both tall and very athletic, thanks to participating in her family's MMA gym. Due to an incident with bullies, she gained the nickname the 100 slayer.
  • Angry Cheek Puff: It's a Character Tic of Hanako to puff her cheeks when she is frustrated/jealous.
  • Anime Hair: It's a wonder how that long fringe on the center of her forehead somehow folds up and meets the longer hair on the left of her face, and completely stays there, no matter if her hair's wet in the shower or is waving around in an actual fight. It certainly doesn't look like she's wearing some sort of band or tie to keep it in place.
  • Big Little Sister: Mother-Daughter example, where she is shown to be taller and curvier than her mother, who easily tricks Saotome into believing that she is Hanako's little sister instead of mother.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: She actually does well in school, but claims to have chosen Moteshiro (known to be a low ranking school) because it was closer to her house.
  • But Not Too Foreign: She appears to be half-European since her mother moved to Japan as a child.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Her large breasts often attract Saotome's attention and earn her the envy of other girls.
  • Character Tic: She puffs her cheeks when she is frustrated/jealous.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: She fully admits she cannot stand aside and let people get taken advantage of if she can do something about it.
  • D-Cup Distress: She has complained about her breasts getting bigger.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: As a result of her best friend being bullied to the point of transferring schools to escape it and the subsequent fight that earned Hanako her nickname, this is a major part of her back story she avoids talking about, even to Saotome.
  • Disappeared Dad: Because her father is constantly overseas alongside her grandfather, she was raised mostly by her mother Irina.
  • The Dreaded: Anytime a delinquent hears her name, they will usually flee. This makes saving Saotome especially easy for her.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: She actually doesn't like being called 'KuzuHana' since it sounds too similar to trash (Kuzu is Japanese for trash).
  • Face of a Thug: She is still quite attractive, however her usual scowl and tough reputation cause others to be scared of her.
  • Funbag Airbag: With a side of Crash-Into Hello, how she and Saotome met. Hanako is also the most common victim of this trope.
  • First-Name Basis: She allows Saotome to call her just Hanako, and so far only he and Seira refer to her like that.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: She's incredibly tall for a high-schooler, and she's actually half a head taller than Saotome.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Despite how strong she already appears to be, she notes she is actually holding back due to the people she fights are just normal people. When in a dojo she knocks out a student with one kick, stating she doesn't need to hold back against martial artists.
  • I Didn't Mean to Turn You On: It doesn't take much work on her part to cause Saotome to fluster.
  • Implied Love Interest: The fact that she is the closest to Saotome and that the manga is named after her makes her being the main choice a Foregone Conclusion.
  • It's Not You, It's My Enemies: One of the reasons she is hesitant to confess her feelings to Saotome. As she believes if he says yes and they start dating, people who have a grudge against her will target him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Not so much a jerk, but very shy and somewhat aloof leading others to think she was mean, helped along by the story of how she beat up 100 bullies at once. Deep down, she is a sweet, friendly girl, who often puts her friends first no matter the consequences.
  • Mum Looks Like a Sister: Her mother is able to fool Saotome into believing she is her younger sister.
  • Phenotype Stereotype: She seems to be half-European, and it's probably related that she's also blonde and blue-eyed.
  • Pitbull Dates Puppy: Even though she is not dating Saotome, their relationship has this vibe given their respective personalities.
  • Red Baron: 100 Slayer. She earned that title when she beat up 100 thugs in a single day.
  • Run the Gauntlet: Her mother makes a deal with her to where she and her friends can use the Dojo for their Christmas Party, but only if she defeats every student of the Dojo.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: The best example from the cast. Hanako is pretty as it is, but put her in a dress or something designed by Saotome, she is a knockout.
  • Smarter Than They Look: She is actually quite academically gifted. Seira even stated she could have easily picked any high-ranked school before she beat up 100 people.
  • Spanner in the Works: She saved Saotome from the girls trying to blackmail him multiple times by just happening to show up at the right time.
  • The Dulcinea Effect: Even though they are NOT an official couple, most people who know Hanako have noticed how much nicer and approachable she has become since becoming friends with Saotome.
  • Top Wife: Even if she hasn't noticed it, Hanako is leading the race to win Saotome's heart, much to the rest of the unwanted harem's annoyance. Problem is neither has Saotome, due to his own issues.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Anytime the subject as to why she is attending Moteshiro, one of the lowest ranked schools, despite her skills and high academic marks, she will just state its because it was the school closest to her home. However, every time she says that her body language suggests she's leaving something out.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: By giving encouragement to the other girls like Mai and Koharu, both of whom are Shrinking Violet types, to approach Saotome, she is helping her rivals. Something that Seira points out after the fact, much to Hanako's embarrassment.
  • When She Smiles: It's quite the difference from her usual scowl.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Although still physically fit and capable of protecting Saotome from the girls, she hasn't practiced full martial arts in a long time, and thus when she is supposed to go face her mom's twenty students, her practice with Seira shows how rusty she is.

Main Girls of Moteshiro

    Takase Kasumi

Takase Kasumi - The Tease

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takase_kasumi.gif
The first girl we are introduced to. A member of Saotome's homeroom, also serves as the assistant class representative. Behind her outward good girl persona, lies a rather nasty personality
  • A-Cup Angst: She's actually pretty okay in terms of bust size, but when compared to Hanako and Yuna, she can't help but feel self-conscious.
  • Ambiguously Bi: She wonders if she might be into girls too after realizing she loves Kamogawa's general cuteness.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Classic example, a role she embraced until she met Saotome and became friends with him.
  • Can't Act Perverted Toward a Love Interest: Once she starts to develop feelings for Saotome, she finds herself very very flustered in his presence. She even stops flashing him in an attempt to extort money from him.
  • Character Development: After getting told off by Saotome about how she should treasure herself more, she settles down and stops teasing him like she did in the beginning. She also starts to make friends with the other girls in her class, who up to this point she viewed as complete strangers.
  • Green-Eyed Epiphany: She starts to wonder why seeing Saotome and Hanako together ticks her off so much as well as why she finds herself trying to compete with Hanako when Saotome is involved. It makes her realize she has developed actual feelings for him.
  • Karma Houdini: Didn't suffer any punishment for trying to blackmail Saotome. Though a bit subverted as she knows full well because of that incident she has to work a lot harder than any of the other girls to get his attention.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: The fact that she tried to blackmail and extort Saotome when he trusted her. She knows full well that even after she develops true feelings for him, that she will have to work much harder than the other girls to get his trust back.
  • Primal Fear: She admits being afraid of the dark. Though it later turns out she was lying. The Test of Courage shows she's really uneasy in dark places, although not as bad as she pretended.
  • Troll: Enjoys messing with the first years a little too much, especially Kijitani.

    Ushigome Yuna

Ushigome Yuna - The Airhead

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ushigome_yuna.gif
A very bright and cheerful girl, makes friends with everyone very easily due to her sweet and honest nature. Doesn't stop her from teasing and flirting with Satome, but unlike some of the other girls, she's not doing it to be mean to him. The first girl to openly declare her affections for Saotome after he and Hanako bail her out of an Enjo Kosai situation gone horribly wrong.
  • Attempted Rape: Narrowly in her Enjo Kosai situation. That and her rescue makes her drop it and delete the app from her phone.
  • Book Dumb: She's not very good when it comes to academic stuff.
  • Buxom Beauty Standard: She takes full advantage of her large breasts to get Saotome's attention.
  • Cuddle Bug: Loves hugging her friends, ESPECIALLY Saotome.
  • Didn't Think This Through: She genuinely thought she just needed to be a cute date and will be given money, clothes and dinner from the guy she was with during an Enjo Kosai. She never expected the guy would demand more in return, even saying this trope.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: When feeling down or upset she tends to give a vacant, dejected look.
  • Enjo Kosai: Was practicing it before the story started and was fairly good at it until a "date" required Saotome and Hanako to rescue her.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has her hair on pigtails and it represents her energy and general kindness.
  • The Glomp: Will regularly hug people when she's happy.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Completely Averted. She actually tries to befriend anyone who she sees as a rival, claiming it makes her more motivated.
  • Nice Girl: Even when she was teasing and making Saotome do her work for her, she would still try to at least compensate for it (usually offering to let him touch her body), where as the other girls would just dump it on him.
  • One-Note Cook: When it comes to cookies and other types of sweets, Ushigome has no equal. Everything else... not so much.
  • Rescue Romance: Used to tease Saotome just as much as the other girls. But after he saved her from an Attempted Rape, she fell for him hard.
  • Sleeps in the Nude: Her preferred method of sleeping, even doing it at the Beach Trip despite other people being around.
  • The Tease: Enjoys flaunting her chest when Saotome is present, but given her sweet personality, she is doing it to tease him rather than for any mean reason.
  • Weight Woe: Too much snacking causes her to gain weight in Chapter 55, and worries if Saotome likes chubby girls. Unfortunately for her after Saotome assures the girls he finds the girls' individual body types to each have their own charms, he backtracks after her buttons pop and smack him in the face, politely suggesting that maybe she should start that diet after all.

    Itachi Sakurako

Itachi Sakurako - The Loudmouth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/itatchi_sakurako.gif
A VERY loud and intimidating student in the Business Program who doesn't like it that Saotome is a student at her school. She warms up to him after he manages to fix her shirt that was about to rip and cause a Wardrobe Malfunction.
  • Book Dumb: Proudly states she completely flunked her last test.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Unlike the other girls, Itachi doesn't come off as particularly romantically interested in him... which leaves her with plenty to comment on as the antics over Saotome happen.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: When she realizes that Saotome really isn't the degenerate pervert she and the majority thinks he is, she becomes nicer to him, despite his often Accidental Pervert moments.
  • Friend to All Children: Shown to get along pretty well with Nekomiya's younger sisters.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While her way of pointing it out was rather mean, she wasn't wrong to call out Aoi for her excessive snacking and gaining volume on her ass.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite being rough around the edges and more than a bit belligerent, she's rather nice once you get her trust.
  • Scary Teeth: Her teeth are illustrated as sharp, which represents her biting personality.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Compared to her usual look, she is absolutely adorable when she models for the fashion show. Even her friends mention this to her.
  • Shipper on Deck: She encourages Aoi to confess her feelings to Saotome.
  • The Not-Love Interest: In spite of having no romantic feelings for Saotome, she is one of his friends and supporters given how nice he has been to everyone, especially her.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: Has no trouble being one of Saotome's models for the fashion show and wishes she could wear cuter clothing more often.
  • Troll: She definitely enjoys taking the Mickey out of people, no one is spared, especially not the first years.
  • When She Smiles: She looks absolutely adorable when she is giving a real smile.

    Kodera Aoi

Kodera Aoi - The Man Hater

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koudera_aoi.gif
A shy girl who gives off a man-hating vibe. Because of an incident in middle school, where she turned down a boy's confession and he turned it around to make her look like a slut, she is very reticent to talk to boys or even be around them. This slowly starts to change due to her interactions with Saotome.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Her hair is styled in a semi-bowl cut.
  • Death Glare: She gives an utterly terrifying look at a bunch of middle-schoolers who get too casual when talking to her.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: As of chapter 56 she is starting to realize that she does indeed have feelings for Saotome, thanks to a little push from Itachi.
  • Hartman Hips: What she lacks in bust she compensates with wide hips.
  • If It's You, It's OK: She doesn't trust men, but is ok around Saotome.
  • Lazy Bum: Despite appearing to be a hard-working student, Aoi can be just as lazy as the rest of the Business Program when it comes to manual labor.
  • Mellow Fellow: She might appear aloof and distant, but she's actually quite mellow and even lazy.
  • Oblivious to Love: She seems just as oblivious towards Shouta Nekomiya's crush on her as Saotome is with her crush on him.
  • No Social Skills: Due to her dislike of guys and her tendency to avoid them, she realizes when she is alone with Saotome she is unable to actually talk to him. Side note: Saotome is in the same boat, due to his unfamiliarity with Aoi.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: After talking with Saotome, she realizes he is in a similar situation she dealt with in her old school, where she did not want to stand out or be noticed.
  • Weight Woe: She's horrified to realize her butt has gotten bigger due to not exercising and snacking too much, forcing her to train in order to fit into her old swimsuit.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She's terrified of bugs and other critters, clinging onto Saotome for dear life until he chases it away.

    Nekomiya Moe

Nekomiya Moe - The Cat Girl

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nekomiya_moe.gif
Another girl from the Business Program and friends with Kodera Aoi. Really doesn't like Saotome and goes out of her way to get him expelled. Eventually settles down, but considers him The Rival for Aoi's friendship.
  • Ambiguously Gay: She's downright clingy and possessive over Aoi, but it's not made entirely clear if she has outright romantic feelings for her. Her downright Single-Target Sexuality over Aoi doesn't help much since then there's no otherwise indication that she's truly a lesbian.
  • Cat Girl: It's in her name and shows in her personality.
  • Cats Are Mean: Her first prank against Saotome was especially mean-spirited and involved trying to frame him as a panty thief.
  • Cool Big Sis: She's pretty cool towards her younger siblings.
  • Does Not Like Men: Follows Aoi in this regard, and actively engineers an incident to get Saotome in deep trouble. Takes the longest to warm up to him, and considers him a rival for Aoi's friendship. Granted she also doesn't let the other girls touch Aoi either.
  • Easily Forgiven: Nekomiya is terrified of Hanako’s wrath resulting from her attempt to frame Saotome as a pervert and swimsuit thief on the last school trip. Fortunately for her Saotome is far more forgiving when she eventually comes clean about the incident on the current school trip.
  • Frame-Up: Attempted this by stealing all of the main girls' swimsuits and putting them in Saotome's bag. Fortunately for him, his relationship with them all made them believe that he didn't actually take them and they figured out the real perpetrator.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: After realizing that Aoi is starting to fall for Saotome, she adopts this stance. So long as Aoi is happy, she is OK with it.
  • Lazy Bum: Befitting her feline nature, Nekomiya can be VERY lazy.
  • Playful Cat Smile: Her default facial expression, even more so when she is happy.
  • Overzealous Underling: After Aoi expressed dislike at the fact there was a boy in their school, Nekomiya went out of her way to take the girl's swimsuits and plant them in his bag in the hopes of getting him kicked out. After that plan backfired and she confessed to Aoi what she did for her, Aoi just points out she never asked her to do that.
  • Shipper on Deck: After growing to know and respect Saotome, she's now on Team Saotome/Aoi.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: For Kodera Aoi, far from romantic, she considers herself Aoi's best friend and protector... whether Aoi wants it or not.
  • Sour Supporter: Doesn't really like anyone OTHER than Aoi, especially Saotome, but doesn't begrudge her a chance for finding happiness for herself.
  • The Not-Love Interest: Definitely not interested in Saotome in that way. She will put up with him for Aoi’s sake.

    Tsuruhashi Madoka

Kouno/Tsuruhashi Madoka - The Osanajimi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsuruhashi_madoka.gif
Satome's Childhood Friend who's family owned a restaurant. Was forced to separate from him when her family moved away. Recently moved back after her parent's divorce, sporting a new last name. note  Being an excellent cook, she tries to win Saotome's heart the old-fashioned way, Through His Stomach.
  • Character Tics: She has a habit of sticking her tongue out to the side of her mouth. It was actually because of said tic that Saotome recognized her.
  • Crush Filter: Sees Saotome as a lot more handsome than he actually is.
  • First-Name Basis: She's the only one who calls Saotome by his first name Hodaka, being his childhood friend and all.
  • Letting Her Hair Down: She has her hair on a side ponytail while cooking, but lets it down in her leisure time.
  • Patient Childhood Love Interest: Had a huge crush Saotome when they were kids, thanks to his kind and supportive nature. Years later, it has blossomed into love.
  • Supreme Chef: When you grow up with parents who run a restaurant, this is one possible outcome.
  • Used to Be a Tomboy: She admits she used to be described as "boyish" when she was a kid.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: Madoka sure feels this way a lot of the time no thanks to Saotome's waffling and the aggressive nature of the other girls in the Unwanted Harem.
  • Warts and All: She loves Saotome despite admitting he is dense and has low self-esteem.
  • Weight Woe: Gains weight alongside Ushigome, though not quite as badly as she did.

    Shishidou Seira

Shishidou Seira - The Brawler

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shishidou_seira.gif
One of Hanako's friends from her family's MMA gym, who REALLY wants her to come back to the gym.
  • Always Someone Better: Hanako has admitted she is much better at grappling than she is, as well as better academically.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Has her hair is a short bob and she's pretty tomboyish.
  • Hidden Buxom: Despite being quite petite and always wearing a sports bra, she's actually quite endowed and mentions she has gone from a C-Cup to a D-Cup.
  • I Can Change My Beloved: Or rather Hanako's beloved, as she wants to force Saotome to toughen up...and also get him away from the other Harem members.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Thinks the old Hanako, namely the only who beat up 100 people, is preferable to the one now.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: What she lacks in size she compensates with athletic ability and grappling strength.
  • Short Tank: Minus the tank top in her wardrobe, Seira fits this pretty well.
  • Shipper on Deck: On team Saotome/Hanako.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Very Hanako-centric, doesn't like her spending time with Saotome. The Les Yay is only in Seira (and the fans') mind. Though there was that time she expressed outrage and envy at Saotome saying he accidentally touched Hanako's breasts on Valentine's Day...
  • The Not-Love Interest: Once she gets over her initial resentment of Saotome, she settles into shipping him and Hanako.
  • Token Mini-Moe: She's the shortest among the main cast and she doesn't like when it's brought up.

    Kamogawa Mai

Kamogawa Mai - The Meek Cheerleader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kamogawa_mai.gif
A classmate of Saotome and Takae, who due to her soft voice and timid nature, did not realize they were in the same classroom. She can be pretty passive, often going with the flow, unless Saotome is involved, whereupon she gets a bit more aggressive. Her family owns a moving company, so Mai helps out as often as she can, leading to her developing enough strength and endurance to almost compete on the same level as Hanako.
  • All Guys Want Cheerleaders: Averted for now and not if Mai has anything to say about it.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: As shy and nice as she normally is, she's pretty strong and she accidentally held Kijitani's wrist surprisingly hard.
  • Everyone Can See It: As much as she tries to deny it, it's pretty obvious to everyone on the cheerleading team she's crushing hard on Saotome.
  • Hidden Buxom: Just as stacked as the rest of the cast, sans Takae, usually hidden by her school uniform.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: Her bangs always cover one of her eyes, representing her shyness.
  • In-Series Nickname: Ayano often refers to her as "One-Eyed Senpai".
  • Oh, Crap!: Happens every time someone suggests that she should get together with Saotome.
  • The Quiet One: She can barely raise her voice above a whisper when talking to someone, causing many to wonder why she is a cheerleader. Anytime she does raise her voice, everyone points it out.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: While normally pretty cute, when her friends insist on her wearing makeup and a fancy yukata she's gorgeous.
  • Workplace-Acquired Abilities: She notes the reason why she is so strong is because her family runs a moving company and she often helps out.

    Shiratori Kanon

Shiratori Kanon - The Cheerful Cheerleader

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1953_61.jpeg

The main cheerleader we see after Mai. Very cheerful to the point of being a little annoying, but her heart is in the right place. Would love to see Mai hook up with Saotome, both for Mai’s happiness, and the hopefully break the cheerleaders run of bad luck in regards to romance.

  • Bad Liar: Her eagerness means she sucks at lying, and she only actually misdirects the other girls during the test of courage about the direction Saotome went due to Yuna being incredibly naive.
  • Bishie Sparkle: Her exuberance is represented by her constantly sparkling.
  • Blessed with Suck: Just being a cheerleader is no guarantee at success with boys, as Kanon blurts out while trying to encourage Mai.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupils are star shaped, representing her energy.
  • Genki Girl: In contrast to Mai, Kanon is highly energetic and talkative.
  • Hidden Depths: For all her energy, she admits she's not very good at talking to boys and admires Mai for being brave enough to try.
  • The Not-Love Interest: While part of Saotome's group of friends, like Sakurako and Moe, Kanon hasn't shown any romantic interest in Saotome.
  • Shipper on Deck: Ships Mai and Saotome, as does the rest of the cheer team.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Goes well with the cheerleader image.

Moteshiro First Years

New first year students at Moteshiro and the kouhai to the main girls and Saotome.

    Kijitani Ayano

Kijitani Ayano - The Mischievous Kohai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kijitani_ayano.gif
  • Abhorrent Admirer: Claims to be a fan of Saotome, but is rude, childish, and provokes all the other girls, especially Hanako.
  • All Guys Want Cheerleaders: At least that is Ayano’s plan.
  • Becoming the Mask: In spite of joining the Cheerleaders to get more popular, Kijitani really bonds with the girls and starts taking it seriously. Even trying to help Mai get closer to Saotome, that is until she starts to have feelings for him as well.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: While putting on a brave front, she admits to her friends that she almost peed herself after Hanako gave her an intense Death Glare.
  • Cute Little Fangs: She has a snaggletooth or two on occasion, which represents her mischievous personality.
  • Glory Seeker: She wants Saotome to be a famous fashion designer and she wants to hitch her wagon to his fame.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Admits to herself that starting a rumor that she 'beat' Kuzuhana has backfired on her when Misuzu picks a fight with the delinquents from second year and drags her and Koharu into it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: A bit too mischievous and glory seeking for her own good, she can be nice on occasion, genuinely apologizing to Inukai and giving her the space to tie her panties.
  • Love Epiphany: She realizes she's developing a crush on Saotome after he encourages her during a cheerleading event.
  • Shipper on Deck: Despite her growing crush on Saotome, she still wants to support Mai and her romantic endeavors.
  • The Tease: She enjoys teasing her seniors, including flashing her panties at Hanako and Saotome.

    Inukai Koharu

Inukai Koharu - The Shy Kohai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inukai_koharu.gif
  • Ambiguously Brown: She appears to have a darker skin-tone than the other girls.
  • Blind Without Them: She can't see without her glasses and is not used to wearing contacts, so she ends up squinting a lot, which people mistake for a Death Glare.
  • Brutal Honesty: She's rather blunt in her way of speaking, admitting that she intends on becoming a better designer than Saotome.
  • Childhood Friends: She's been friends with Misuzu since they were little.
  • D-Cup Distress: She doesn't like the attention her huge breasts get and it makes it difficult for her to find clothes that properly fit her.
  • Gyaru Girl: She changes her style in order to fit in at Moteshiro, and Saotome even calls her a popular Gyaru type in his thoughts.
  • Hartman Hips: Besides a huge bust she also has some wide hips, as noted by Itachi.
  • Hidden Buxom: Just as stacked as Ushigome, but keeps it hidden with a baggy hoodie in her introduction.
  • Opaque Nerd Glasses: Her glasses almost always obscure her eyes. After she decides to be true to herself, her eyes are now visible most of the time.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: She was pretty before, but after changing styles and taking off her glasses, she turns into a total stunner and Saotome and Ayano don't recognize her.
  • Wardrobe Malfunction: The shirt she tries on is so tight around the chest she makes the buttons pop, exposing her bra and generous cleavage to Saotome and the other girls.
    • And in another chapter her string panties get undone, nearly flashing everyone during a badminton game.

    Hibino Misuzu

Hibino Misuzu - The Friendly Kohai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hibino_mizusu.gif
  • Gyaru Girl: She dresses in the kogal variant. She's even called White Gyaru by Madoka in her thoughts.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: She actually loves cooking and considered joining the cooking class, but chose the fashion class instead to be with Koharu.
  • Obsessed with Food: Is friendly most of the time but when it comes to food she can get much more aggressive. Enough to pick a fight with the delinquent second years over the last piece of melon bread.
  • Only Friend: She's Koharu's only friend when she entered high school.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Short but strong enough to push Nekomiya out of the ring in one push in a game of butt sumo.
  • Satellite Character: So far she hasn't been more than Koharu's friend and support.
  • Shipper on Deck: She's pretty supportive of Koharu's feelings for Saotome.
  • The Not-Love Interest: Doesn't appear to have feelings for Saotome and is perfectly happy shipping him with Koharu.
  • Through His Stomach: In an unusual way, she easily befriends those who give her food. She even starts calling Madoka and Aoi "aneki" after they share their food with her.

    Usagi Kanae

Usagi Kanae - The Overthinking Committee Member

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1950_6.jpeg

  • The Comically Serious: Her attempts at being serious and mature come off as pretty funny, if not endearingly dorky.
  • Covert Pervert: Her mind constantly goes to the most lewd possibility imaginable in a misunderstanding.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Because of how many girls hang off Saotome, she believes he hides a Harem Seeker personality under a sincere front.
  • Hidden Buxom: She actually has a pretty respectable bust underneath her clothes, certainly bigger than Ayano and Misuzu, although not to the size of Koharu.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Due to taking Ushigome's words at face value, she believed Saotome is double or even triple timing the girls he's just friends with. Even after Saotome and Kuzuhana clarify things, she still has her doubts.
  • Mistaken Identity: From behind she looks very similar to Takase, which is why Ushigome groped her butt by accident.
  • Not Listening to Me, Are You?: She gets so caught up in her own thoughts she doesn't listen to what others say.
  • Serious Business: She takes her role as Class Committee member very seriously.

  • Boyish Short Hair: She has her hair cut in a boyish and somewhat messy style, fitting her tomboyish look.
  • Graceful Loser: She admits to the second years that if she hadn't received their help on their shaved ice stall, the first years would have lost the competition of sales at the school festival, so she agrees it's their loss and she even starts calling Saotome "aniki".
  • The Rival: She at least sees herself as the rival of the second years who haven't kept their reputation as badasses.
  • Sarashi: She's introduced wearing one underneath her jacket.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: She's the tomboy to her friend Kirara Rakuda's girly girl.

    Samejima Reona

Samejima Reona - The Young Rival

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: She challenges Hanako to a serious fight with the bet that if she wins, she'll tell Hodaka about Hanako's feelings for him. Hanako takes the fight very seriously and beats her with a brutal punch to the gut.
  • Blood Knight: She's pretty eager to challenge Hanako and has been trying to beat her for years.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Has this style and it serves to highlight her eagerness and childishness.
  • Graceful Loser: She accepts her loss against Hanako pretty easily and admits she needs to train even more.
  • Grin of Audacity: She has a tendency of grinning when she's feeling particularly confident.
  • Huge School Girl: Despite only being a third-year middle-schooler, she's taller than Hodaka and the same height as Hanako.
  • Spirited Competitor: She relishes in competing with Hanako and wants to surpass her as a martial artist.
  • Younger Than They Look: Despite being two years younger than Hanako and Saotome, she looks the same age as them. Even Hodaka is surprised she's still in middle-school.

    Kujaku Makoto

Kujaku Makoto - The Gyaru Student Council President

  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Pretty feminine and she likes to tie her shirt to show her navel.
  • Collared by Fashion: She also wears a prominent choker to go with the gyaru image.
  • Custom Uniform of Sexy: She wears her uniform shirt tied to show her navel and the top wide open to display her cleavage.
  • Gyaru Girl: She dresses in a kogal variant, with loose socks, a prominent cleavage, lip gloss and bright painted nails. Saotome is both surprised and not shocked that she looks like that.
  • Lascivious Beauty Mark: She has a mole underneath her left eye and she's provocative and love teasing Saotome, especially once she develops a liking towards him.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She might have given team Ushigome a poor location for the school festival, but she was right to point out Yuna submitted her request very late, but she also agrees to give them a chance to gather enough people and recognizes the effort they're putting for their stand.
  • Remember the New Guy?: She's Moteshiro's student council president, but she debuts in chapter 185 and hadn't been previously mentioned. Her vice-president Rin does say she never attends council meetings.
  • Student Council President: Of Moteshiro High, and despite her unorthodox appearance she's actually competent at her job, when she bothers to show up that is.
  • The Tease: She's clearly aware of how her looks affect Saotome, so she teases him even more by asking him to spend some time with her.

    Karasuno Rin

Karasuno Rin - The Straight-Laced Vice President

  • Big Eater: She eats a whole plate of pancakes much faster than Makoto expected.

  • Only Friend: Kujaku implies she's her only friend, which is why she hopes she befriends other students of her same grade once she graduates.
