    Tasha Godspell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tasha_profile_4846.png
Tasha Godspell is a Black Class WH and the second disciple of Edea Florence. At the beginning of the series, his goal is to find his sister Aria, have her remove the curse she placed upon him and take her home to their mother. Obsessed with making money, Tasha's a proud swindler and rather stingy. His capacity for kindness only seems to surface in the company of women. The Great Witches East and North consider him instrumental to their respective plans, as either the savior or destroyer of humanity.

  • Abnormal Ammo: His guns fires bullets made of Mana.
  • An Arm and a Leg: In his battle with Lancelot in Britain he loses his right arm in Lancelot's attempt to sever his control to his Dimensional Gallery Glove. It gets reattached later by Tania Doberg soon after the battle.
  • Apocalypse Maiden: He is both the key to wiping out humanity, but also the key to saving mankind.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: His Mana Gun Desert Eagle Custom can fire the force of 10,000 normal mana bullets in one shot. The downside? He can only fire it 3 times before his arm breaks from the recoil.
  • Badass Normal: While his colleagues have access to mystical martial arts, earth spirits, lightning powers, and gravity manipulation, all Tasha has is an arsenal of Magic Bullet Guns and reflexes honed by years worth of training. Still manages to kick ass in a World of Badass.
    • Empowered Badass Normal: Edea gave him an injection of her magic to increase his physical strength so that he could handle the larger guns without any problem.
  • Badass Long Coat: His custom uniform in WH.
  • Bag of Holding: His Dimensional Gallery Pouch served as this. He later replaces this with a pair gloves.
  • Barehanded Blade Block: Tasha knows how to do it.
  • Battle Butler / House Husband: Surprisingly, even though he was raised as a noble from the Godspell family, he is very adept at household tasks which leaves Edea completely nonplussed.
  • Beat Still, My Heart: A mana-drunk, Varete-influenced Aria ripped his heart out and ate it, forging a cursed bond between the two shortly after her awakening as a witch.
  • Berserk Button: Never speak ill of Tasha's deceased master Edea or his white hair that she granted him. If you get in his way of saving Aria or try to take his Halloween away, he'll fill you with mana bullets. Never insult the wonder and glory that is money, for it makes the world beautiful and worth living in.
  • Bodyguard Crush: Tasha cares deeply for Halloween, and is as willing and able to protect her as much as she does for him and cares more than anything about her happiness, but he is unsure if the feelings he has for her can be described can be simplified as 'love'.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Justified because he uses rechargeable mana bullets.
  • Celibate Hero: Tasha is well aware of every woman that has a crush on him and acts kindly towards all of them, but makes a clear point to not get into any kind of relationship with anyone.
  • Childhood Friends: With Linda Cuthburt.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: Most of which is derived from his willingness to swindle, belittle and fire upon allies when they annoy him.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Doubles as a Freudian Excuse. When his adoptive sister, whom he doted on, began to awaken as a witch, their adoptive father sent her off to a "safe boarding school" for her safety. This was a lie, as she was actually sent to Superhuman Traffickers who intended to exploit her. When Tasha tried to save her (after a tip-off from one of her orbs), he got shot by said traffickersand in response Aria's power fully awakened, destroying everything in her path until she returned home. Then her father tried to kill her personally while calling her a freak of nature that doesn't deserve to live. The resulting fight between Aria who couldn't control her power in stress and her father killed said father, who turned out to have been mind-controlled, as well as destroyed a large part of their hometown, before she cursed him and left due to Varete's influence. Then, his mother got the Sword of Damocles treatment, and when he tried to find Aria, as his mother ordained (to help protect him from the Sword of Damocles punishment the kingdom put on the Godspell family), a pair of muggers take everything he owns and left him for dead, at least until Edea chanced upon him. Small wonder he's a Greedy Jerkass with a Heart of Gold.
  • Deadly Upgrade: Moirai's Confinement, a technique where Tasha utilizes the dormant Mana of his master, Edea Florence, to increase his power to that of a White S-Class, a level comparable to her own. Unfortunately, activating Moirai's Confinement makes Tasha quickly become insane and sadistic and his body immediately begins to deteriorate from due to his body being unable to handle the magical capacity of an S-Class Witch. The only solution is for someone with a similar mana type to save him using their energy. But when the only known person is deceased...
  • Death from Above: Using Moirai's Confinement, Tasha rains a meteor shower of mana bullets to completely annihilate Rose and her army of familiars.
  • Disease Bleach: The first time his hair turned white was because Aria cursed her. For some time when he was under Edea's mentorship, she helped suppress the curse, turning his hair black again.
  • Dodge the Bullet: Part of his training under Edea Florence was reducing his reaction time by dodging bullets from a Magic Bullet Gun point blank. Probably to make up for the fact he had been shot twice before he even met her and had to be saved both times.
  • Doomed Hometown: When Aria awakened as a Witch she destroyed their entire village, along with their father.
  • Doorstop Baby: He was this to the Godspells.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: More than one character has mistaken him for a girl. This is implied to be a side-effect of being one of the only two males to have his own source of mana within him.
  • Emergency Transformation: To Halloween, in their first battle with Ryuhwan and Fergus. Albeit he was clueless to what releasing her first seal would mean...
  • Empowered Badass Normal: After the activating Moirai's Confinement, Tasha soon finds out that he has his very own source of Mana.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: He's the exception to Xing's hatred of guys.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: When East knocks Tasha out and brings him to her cottage, he doesn't believe that she's East, because the four great witches are all supposed to live in grand castles and be "super glamorous sexy babes," whereas East looks like... Merlin. East's response is very swift.
  • Experienced Protagonist: By the start of the series, he is already an established A Class WH, one of the highest ranks within the organization.
  • Expy: Of Allen Walker from D.Gray-Man.
  • Field Power Effect: By using the entirety of his Dimension Gallery Pouch, Tasha can invoke a battlefield where he can control the path of his mana bullets after they are shot. During Moirai's Confinement, his control with this technique can increase the area of effect to a tremendous amount with the added bonus of having falling snow that drains the mana of whoever it touches.
  • First Love: His first love was his master, Edea.
  • Friendly Sniper: After his training with Ryuhwan he gains a Long Range Barrett Custom enabling him to snipe enemies over vast distances.
  • Greed: Besides his love for money, this trait applies to all his possessions. Even if it would be to his advantage to give something up, he will refuse.
  • Gun Kata: Mana Gun Direct Combat Technique: Gun Battle.
  • Guns Akimbo: How he primarily handles his guns.
  • The Gunslinger: Being only one out of three characters in the entire series that utilizes firearms, he is a mix of all several styles of gunplay.
  • Happily Adopted: He was adopted by the Godspell family when he was abandoned as a baby. He also reveals this is also the case for Aria, although 8 years later.
  • Heroic BSoD: Goes through one in Chapter 154 upon seeing a witch burning down the town he was visiting, visions of Aria doing the same in his head. It nearly gets him killed.
  • Hot for Teacher: Seemed to have strong feelings for his master that border or fall into this, though she was The Tease to him.
  • Hyperspace Arsenal: His Dimensional Gallery Pouch, and later on glove, which he uses to pull out his various guns as well as fuel his mana based skills.
  • Impoverished Patrician: According to the author's note, his family used to be nobles. See Work Off the Debt for details.
  • Incompletely Trained: Ryuhwan claims that Tasha being weaker than him is perfectly reasonable since he received their master's full training while Tasha's training was incomplete. Ryuhwan takes it upon himself to complete Tasha's training.
  • Invocation: "My name is Tasha Godspell!I order you as your master! Open, Dimensional Gallery! What I Want is...!"
  • Jerkass: He spends half his time as a WH scamming people out of their money, 25% of the time attacking his own allies for ruining chances for money, 12.5% of the time insulting everyone and everything he can, 6.25% of his time praising Tania, 3.125% of the time scamming more people out of money, and 3.125% of the time fighting witches
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Beneath his truly horrible attitude and jerk ass to an extreme tendencies, he is a a nice guy... Sometimes... Really just hope you're not Tarras or Cooga. Or you either take his money or insult it.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: The only reason he became a WH was so he could find Aria, revert her back to a human, and bring her back home. Everything else, even his life, be damned.
Tasha: You still don't get it. My life isn't as precious as Aria's.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: Tasha is revealed to be both the key to the Big Bad's plans for wiping out humanity, but also the key to stopping these plans and saving mankind. There are also several other witches out to capture him, including his own sister.
  • Madness Mantra: He's really hates how he couldn't stop Aria from becoming a witch.
    Tasha: I couldn't protect her. I couldn't protect her. I couldn't protect her...
  • Mage Marksman: Played With. By using the Dimensional Gallery Glove he can also utilize some of his master's spells to a lesser degree but consumes a large amount of Mana he's collected from Witches, limiting his usage of them. After awakening his own Mana source he plays this straight, using more mana based abilities without worrying about the vast mana consumption.
  • Missing Mom: His adoptive-mother is still alive, but isn't in a position to help him.
  • Money Fetish: He loves money.
  • My Greatest Failure: That he couldn't protect his sister from becoming a witch.
Tasha: I couldn't protect what's most important to me.
  • My Name Is Inigo Montoya: Gives off this beauty in Chapter 155 to a witch who hurt Linda.
Tasha: I am Tasha Godspell. As the pupil of the "Witch Hunter," Edea Florence, I shall hunt you down right here!
  • Mystical White Hair: His current hair color is the mark that he is the accepted disciple of Edea Florence.
  • Not Blood Siblings: Turns out Tasha and Aria aren't blood related, his family adopted her after an attack wiped her whole village where she was the sole survivor.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: During Moirai's Confinement, a single bullet destroys a mountain and his following attack completely decimates the landscape.
  • Phlebotinum Girl: A Rare Male Example. He can either serve as the key to North's plan to wipe out humanity, or to stopping it and saving humanity. According to Aria, he has no choice in the matter. He's Exactly What It Says on the Tin: he's just a key and a tool.
  • Power at a Price: Using Moirai's Confinement burned out the power that Edea left within him to halt his curse. As a result, not only can he not use it again, but the Moirai sisters have to take away certain bodily functions, meaning he'll gradually start becoming blind, deaf, and weak to where he can't lift his guns. Tasha asks them to mitigate it by taking away only one eye, one hand, and leaving his legs so that he can still fight.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: When using Moirai's Confinement his hair shifts from white to black.
  • Red Baron: The Magic Bullet Marksman.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: During the effects of Moirai's Confinement his eyes shift from purple to red. It's a good sign that he's lost his sanity and has become a danger to everyone around him. Especially witches.
  • Reincarnation: He's the reincarnation of West... somehow...
  • Sadistic Choice: The witch in Chapter 155 offers to spare him, but only if he handed over Linda, who threw herself onto him to save him from being killed and making him watch as she kills her. Otherwise she'd still kill him. He decides to Take a Third Option and hunt her down.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: He decides to quit WH when they try and take Halloween from him.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Considering his past, it's a wonder he's not worse!
  • Sword of Damocles: If Tasha or his family make one mistake that ends up harming the kingdom they come from, everyone with the Gospel name will be killed.
  • Technical Pacifist: Despite being easily the most violent character in the series, he refuses to kill. He did head-shot a witch once, except that as Halloween pointed out, he was aware he head-shotted the witch's Supporter masquerading as her.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After his intensive training with Ryuhwan, Tasha gains fine control of his natural mana source; enabling him to sense the flow of mana around him and over vast distances, enhance his Super-Reflexes, as well as gain new additional mana guns to his arsenal. This development, as well as Halloween's, allow them to swiftly curb stomp Rose, an enemy who thoroughly trounced them in the past and required Moirai's Confinement to defeat.
  • Tricked-Out Gloves: His Dimensional Gallery Glove is a tool left by his master to serve as a gateway to access his guns and Halloween from an alternate dimension where he stores them.
  • Trigger-Happy: To the ire of his allies.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Child: Aria, when adopted into the Godspell family, was already horrified by a witch attack on her home town, and terrified of people. So much so, that she rarely ventured out of her bedroom into the house. Tasha kindly and gently coaxed her out of her shell, until she could laugh and play again.Boy did that ever come back to bite him.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: Edea couldn't get enough of his eyes, so much so that she told other people such as Vihyungrang how she admired Tasha's eyes.
  • Worf Effect: Despite being an established badass, as the series goes on, majority of Tasha's fight losses against Ryuhwan, Varete, Lancelot, and East show that Tasha has a long way to go before being strong enough to fight strongest threats in the WH universe.
  • Work Off the Debt: The Gospel family has been, by royal decree, ordered to pay off the financial damages caused by Aria as a punishment. The amount is far above what one can pay in a lifetime of work, but the Empress considered this lenient considering the circumstances.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: The curse Aria gave him would have kill him in one year. He only managed to live much longer because his master Edea helped suppress it with the Moirai sisters, but because he used Moirai's Confinement the curse has begun progressing at a faster rate.

    Halloween
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/profile02_7030.png
Click here to see Halloween's true form

Tasha's supporter. It takes the form of a doll with a pumpkin's head and fights using two swords, Yin and Yang. Though loyal to its master, Halloween isn't above attacking him in retaliation for an insult. It originally sported two seals in the form of padlock necklaces, one of which was broken during a skirmish with Ryuhwan. In human form, Halloween summons her blades from the clothes issued to her at HQ. According to East, has the potential to become stronger than Varete or Ryuhwan.

  • Berserk Button: Harming Tasha Godspell is a sure fire way to get cut down.
  • Bodyguard Crush: Has outright stated that she is in love with Tasha and doesn't even care if her feelings are simply a product of her contract.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Tasha has no qualms about getting his hands dirty. Halloween is just his extra muscle for when he doesn't want to.
  • Chainmail Bikini: Her uniform. Handwaved as "allowing her complete freedom of movement" and occasionally lampshaded. Justified by the fact that, as a supporter, all she really needs to heal from damage is some mana from Tasha.
  • Cool Sword: Yin and Yang are twin black swords Halloween wields that can also morph to suit her needs.
  • Dual Wielding: How Yin and Yang are typically used.
  • Emergency Transformation: When Tasha breaks the first seal on Halloween in his first battle with Ryuhwan in a desperate effort to stop Fergus from killing Halloween.
  • Identity Amnesia: Becoming a supporter took the memories of her time as Mordred, the future king of Britain, Lancelot, and her mysterious past.
  • Idiot Hair: A rather long one too.
  • I Don't Want to Ruin Our Friendship: Played with. She has no angst over her feelings for Tasha and simply does not show her love because of Tasha's habit of shying away from people who seek a relationship with him. She is entirely happy with the knowledge that as his supporter, she'll always be the closest person to him and be one of the few people to see the real him.
  • It Was a Gift: From Edea Florence to Tasha. One of the only things left to him since her death, hence why he will not let her go.
  • Morph Weapon: Yin and Yang have the ability to morph otself into various forms, such as a shield.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Except she's not.
  • Restraining Bolt: Her seals around her neck are proof of her contract with Tasha and to limit to her power. When the seals are broken, it is implied that Halloween with return to her former strength as Mordred but will also sever the contract she has with Tasha, something he's bent on not doing.
  • Royal Blood: She is the daughter of Queen Guinevere and King Arthur.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Much to Tasha's surprise.
  • Snarky Non-Human Sidekick: Back when she was a pumpkin she often snarked about Tasha's lack of self control around money and the humiliating situations he get himself into. Even after taking on a human form her disposition still hasn't changed.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: In her human form, she can pull her weapons from her clothing.
  • Stripperiffic: Her WH uniform.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After her training with Fergus she gets stronger alongside Tasha; capable of infusing her swords with mana to increase their cutting power and gaining a fine control of her weapon's morphing abilities, such as changing it into a Whip Sword to increase her offensive radius.
  • Waif-Fu: Incredibly lithe but also capable of kicking a lot of ass.
  • Wistful Amnesia: When she meets Guinevere for the first time.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Yin and Yang can shatter if used upon hardened foes, such as Surtr, but regenerate from damage given enough time.

    Xing Bairong
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xingbairong2_5176.jpg

Xing is a Black Class WH, known for his superhuman speed and shameless skirt-chasing. He dislikes the company of any man except Tasha, claiming to prefer women with 'sexy bodies'. His hobby is collecting sunglasses.

His real name is Prince Yue of Bairong, identical triplet to princes Lee and Xing. He was named the Emperor of Bairong, but exchanged names and lives with the mild-mannered Xing to pursue his dream of roaming the world. Three years later (present timeline), he returns to find the Empire has fallen to a now-evil Lee, not to mention that Xing is not happy with his departure.

    Tarras Doberg
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tarras_cover_2918.png

Tarras is a Black Class WH with power over earth spirits. He is egotistical and refers to himself with the suffix -nim (Korean equivalent of -sama). He is skilled enough that even while under the control of a witch, Tasha and Xing could not defeat him, but his personality constantly antagonizes many people. This often prompts Tasha to tease him by calling him an extra, pointing out that he was defeated by Tasha's little sister, mocking him for getting controlled by a Witch, and reminding him that he still owes Tasha half his paycheck. He was suppose to be an unnamed extra according to the author, but they expanded his role. His hobbies include gardening. He likes receiving praise and the plants he grows and hates being ignored.

His sister is Tania, the S-Class Administrator of the North and the only person he fears.

    Team Golden Moon

Team Golden Moon

Monica

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monica_face_cover_3210.png
Initially a pickpocket who stole Tasha's suitcase, Monica is a Black Class WH whose supporter specializes in healing and defensive magic. She awakened as a witch during one of Tasha's hunts and aided him in battle. After the townsfolk shun her for her newfound powers, Tasha brings her to HQ, where Eclipse Shadenon takes her as a student. Until she was Demoted to Extra, she seemed to be Tasha's love interest.
  • Affectionate Pickpocket: When she first appears she poses as a maid at an inn where Tasha was staying at and swiped his stuff when she offered to take his luggage up to his room.
  • Anti-Magic: Can cast Dispel, which can render a target untouchable by means of magic but can only be used on up to three people, one for each eye.
  • Break the Cutie: Her best friend was one of many killed by a witch who was using humans as a means of regaining mana in her village. After the detainment of said witch and when the fact that she, herself, is a witch is revealed, the villagers she just saved quickly come to the conclusion that she was the infamous witch and try to stone her to death.
  • Catch and Return: Her supporter, Parvati, has the ability to absorb attacks and send it back upon command.
  • Cute Witch: After awakening.
  • Demoted to Extra: After her arc detailing around her awakening as a witch, defeating the witch plaguing her village and joining the Witch Hunter organization she is soon reduced to the background as a minor character with a crush on Tasha until Chapter 224.
  • Eye Spy: Parvati can be used like this.
  • Healing Hands: She can use healing magic.
  • Power at a Price: Paravati can give others the ability to see ghosts and other things that cannot be normally perceived. However, the strain of it will cause damage to their senses. Even Tania cannot sustain it for more than 10 minutes.
  • Red Baron: The Supporter of Commoners.
  • Third Eye: When using Parvati, it manifests as one on her forehead. It allows her to see things that are normally Invisible to Normals and she can grant it to others.
  • White Mage: All of her abilities around support and healing rather than a destructive force.

Eclipse Shadenon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eclipse_character_2159.png

A Black Class WH and Monica's mentor. She and her partner Alv Bronte are rather fond of tea and one another. Part of Team Golden Moon with Alv and Monica.

  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Averted. She attempted several times in the past to mass produce Tasha's Mana Guns but failed due to being unable to make the ammo needed.
  • Hot Witch: Very tall and well endowed.
  • Morality Chain: She's very close with Alv and must be partnered with her when she's out on missions because she is the only one capable of preventing her from killing allies.
  • Red Baron: Witch of the Golden Ring.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Part of her WH uniform.
  • Tea Is Classy: When she has free time she's often seen drinking tea with her teammates Alv and Monica.

Alv Bronte

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alv_character_7139.png

A small witch who clings to Eclipse, she can form chained weapons out of nothing and asks if she can kill anyone who threatens Eclipse. Cooga and Tasha are afraid of being partnered to her.

    Team Blondie

Team Blondie

Cooga Kunein

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/witch_hunter_full_417324_9759.jpg
Tasha's rival. He despises Witches and the weak, including those who operate under WH. His attacks are lightning-based. He holds Words in high regard and enjoys making hats.

Words Blondy von Worth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/words_character_5576.png

A WH who is teamed with Cooga and is often seen by Cooga's side. His special ability is the manipulation of gravity, particularly that of objects and people. He is fond of wine and reading and is somewhat sophisticated. He has a contempt and dislike for all witches and supporters and is openly hostile towards witches who have sided with the WHs.

  • Badass Longcoat: Part of his WH unifom.
  • Berserk Button: Insulting Cooga is a bad idea. Just ask that D-Class WH who gave Cooga a bastard child right in front of Words' face.
  • Catchphrase: Quoth Words, "Feel the weight of your sins."
  • Cultured Badass: He enjoys drinking fine wine and libraries.
  • Eyepatch of Power: It's actually linked to his powers.
  • Gravity Master: Due to being experimented upon by his master, he can manipulate gravity at will.
  • Irony: Despises witches yet his power is dependent upon one and he is The Mole for one who is trying to make humanity become extinct.
  • Mutants: Due to his body modifications he is regarded as one in the WH universe.
  • Mysterious Past: It is unexplained on how he captured his master and began as The Mole for North.
  • Phlebotinum Rebel: He was forced into a contract with by his master Carena and was forcibly experimented upon to gain control over gravity but somehow escaped from her grasp and captured her, using her as a battery for his powers.
  • Red Baron: Weight of Sins.
  • Selective Gravity: Like increasing it to the point where bones break and rock turns into dust.
  • The Stoic: He holds a constant melancholy facial expression. Except when Kuga crashes into him in their fight with Tasha and Halloween in Britain.
  • Unrealistic Black Hole: Which consumes everything around it except Words.

    Elmar Hyacinth

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elmar_character_5773.png
Formerly a B-Class medic witch, now an A-Class witch after receiving a proper supporter named Tyrfing.
  • Badass Creed: She gives a rather nice one when she was given a chance to become apprentice to the witch that just killed her entire team.
Elmar: Stupid question. Before I am a witch I am the knight of the Clark Du Chevaliers and a B-Class WH. Elmar Hyancith! As a knight I complete the task given to me with honor. Even if I shall lose my life!
  • Bloody Murder: Her Tyrfing is a sword that draws her blood and creates a blade from it.
  • Break the Cutie: Back when she was a B-Class WH, she watched her entire team get wiped out by a single witch, before being saved by Xing and Tarras.
  • Combat Medic: Heavy on the medic side. Her healing magic is so advanced she can save several A-Class WH from the attacks of the likes of Varete. Varete even compliments her on the area of effect and potency of her healing skill.
  • Deal with the Devil: Her contract with Tyrfing forces her into it's mind, which is basically a sea of endless blood, where a naked woman, sporting black eyes, asks her to quench her insatiable thirst for blood in exchange for power, honor, glory, and destruction. How nice.
Tyrfing: The choice is yours, foolish one.
  • Evil Weapon: Tyrfing.
  • Magic Knight: Before became a witch, she was a knight, and after became a witch, her magic is purely about healing and her offense is purely about her swordsmandship. She started having offensive spells after contracting Tyrfing.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: Her mentality. Best demonstrated that when Tasha is about to defect from WH, she sides with the remaining WH to stop him.
  • Rank Up: After making a contract with Tyrfing, her outfits immediately switches from blue to black.
  • Ship Tease: With Xing.
