Armed Nation of Dwargon

    Gazel

Gazel Dwargo

Dwarven King

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gazel.png
Voiced by: Takaya Hashi (Japanese), Randy Aguebor (English, S1), Bill Butts (English, S2) Foreign VAs

A king and ruler of the Armed Nation of Dwargon, the main dwarven kingdom around.

  • Brutal Honesty: He gives Rimuru's heartfelt speech a whopping zero points since he felt it was unbecoming of a king. While it stung, Rimuru was grateful Gazel was giving him genuine advice instead of pampering him.
  • The Comically Serious: He plays this role in The Slime Diaries, dealing with everything seriously even in the face of the zaniest antics and the comedy deriving from this and his own subordinates' reactions. This includes wearing a Santa outfit sent to him by Rimuru in his throne room and asking his subordinates dead-serious how he looks.
  • Disappointed in You: Tells Vesta this after the exile of Rimuru, Kaijin and his brothers from the kingdom despite knowing of their innocence, having known from the beginning about even Kaijin's innocence in the failure of Vesta's Magisoldier Project. He spent years waiting and hoping that Vesta would come forth and admit the truth, but Vesta's refusal and the sham trial brought his patience to an end.
  • Flash Step: A skilled swordmaster, way quicker than anyone would expect from a dwarf. Justified, give that he was a student of Hakurou.
  • The Good King: One is not called "hero king" without being good. Instead of trying to wipe out the village of monsters, he instead decided to gauge Rimuru himself, and it was his actions that ensured both his people and the new nation of Tempest would prosper, and that Tempest would be forged in the first place. He guides his allies well and warns Rimuru about the dangers and failings of being a king.
  • Just Between You and Me: Played for Drama. While Gazel had to exile Kaijin due to him punching Vesta in retaliation for disrespecting Rimuru, he privately let Vesta knew that he was fully aware of everything that was going on.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Being the first to join an alliance with Tempest, and even encouraging the birth of the nation, he and his people have built a strong relationship based on trust with the nation of monsters. Giving them Vesta to serve as a mediary and researcher increased that trust. This not only ensured that Dwargon has access to the vaunted Full Potions of legend, but also pretty much ensures that Gazel's worst fear (the nation of Tempest, Veldora and Rimuru becoming enemies of Gazel and Dwargon) is the furthest thing from reality.
  • Killing Intent: Strong enough to paralyze opponents, despite not actually being violent by nature. Being able to focus his will to such extent seems to come with being a king.
  • Manly Facial Hair: He has a short but thick beard and cheek-reaching mustache fusion combo that highlights both his manliness and his sense of authority.
  • Not So Above It All: When he does not have to be so formal, Gazel is remarkably willful and jovial, which leaves his ministers with headaches. His Brutal Honesty is most apparent when he lets his guard down, and he has no problems speaking his mind to others in private.
    • After learning that Rimuru is Hakuro's student in swordsmanship, Gazel requested the right to train under him again, though his advisers had to stop him since a king traveling to another country for sword training was too willful and unlikely to win approval from his ministers.
    • After the Heavenly Emperor Elmesia purchased a lodging house in Tempest, a jealous Gazel went to Dwargon to get enough money to purchase a villa in Tempest.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Subverted similarly to Vesta — Gazel too could be easily mistaken for a human, being much taller and slimmer than an average dwarf.
  • Oh, Crap!: His reaction to Veldora walking into the meeting and introducing himself. It is one of the few things that causes him to visibly panic in the whole series.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: The ruler of his nation and the strongest member of it.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He has many of these moments in the moments he shows up.
    • Although he's presented as a legitimate badass and an intimidating figure, he's also quite reasonable and able to see what's actually going on. He knows full well that he's presiding over a sham trial over Kaijin, Rimuru and the others orchestrated by Vesta, and he implies that if Kaijin hadn't already decided to turn his talents over to Rimuru and rejoined the military, he would have dropped the charges completely. Instead, he changes the sentence from years of hard labor in the mines to exile, thus allowing Kaijin and his fellows to leave with Rimuru without issue.
    • He realized that Tempest was beginning to become a nation just by looking at it from the air on his pegasus steed, even when Rimuru didn't, and Dwargon became the first nation to side with them.
    • His "Zero Points" score was meant to teach Rimuru to not be submissive to a foreign nation, as to avoid being looked down upon. He served as a great teacher for Rimuru in this regard.
    • Even when his advisors were panicking over the fact that Rimuru had become a True Demon Lord and had Veldora on their side, and was thus more powerful than Gazel and Dwargon, he still affirmed that they were allies and changing anything would be foolish. Dwargon was seeing prosperity it had never seen before and Gazel was not going to give that up over mere paranoia.
  • Surpassed the Teacher: When he meets Hakurou again, the latter states that he is pleased that Gazel had surpassed him as a swordsman.
  • Telepathy: He has this thanks to his skills, which is how he knew about Vesta's deceptions and can even use it in combat, such as his Secret Test of Character on Rimuru.
  • The Unapologetic: He feels this is necessary to run a nation, and encourages Rimuru to adopt the policy.
"A king must have no regrets."
  • Unknown Rival: Downplayed with his relationship with Elumeshia. The elf emperor does respect him as a competent ruler but she still treats him like the little boy she knew back when his father and grandfather were running Dwargon, which embarrasses Gazel to no end.

    Vesta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vesta.png
Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda (Japanese), Brandon Potter (English) Foreign VAs

Dwarven aristocrat and scientist who works as a Gazel's minister, which drives him into conflict with Kaijin. After embarrassing himself before his king and being exiled for that, he reconsider his ways and becomes Rimuru's chief scientific advisor.

  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Or at least excessfully prideful and inconsiderate. He gets better.
  • The Atoner: Becomes this after his banishment.
  • Break the Haughty: He was nothing but arrogant and condescending, but after Gazel revealed that he knew everything he was doing and was disappointed that he refused to come clean, he became a sobbing mess. By the time Rimuru meets him again after Gazel drops him off in Tempest to work for him, he spent over an hour apologizing to him.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: After being outsmarted by Rimuru, he decides that it's better to work with him than against him.
  • Driven by Envy: His jealousy of Kaijin for being a commoner who managed to become his superior is what lead him to antagonize the dwarf and pin the blame for his own failings on him.
  • Gentleman and a Scholar: A high-ranked aristocrat with a passion For Science!, which makes him conflicted at times, though he gets better.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After he is shamed by Rimuru and banished from the Dwarf king's court, he moves to Tempest and becomes a scientist and adviser to Rimuru.
  • Mad Scientist: Has a heavy vibe before his Heel–Face Turn, fueled by his ambition and pressures of a government position. When he resolves his internal conflicts, he becomes a pretty standard Gentleman and a Scholar.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Gazel reveals that Rimuru was the creator of the extremely pure healing potion that had saved the lives of many Dwarves trapped in an industrial accident two days prior, and that his actions may very well have terminated what could have been a powerful alliance with the slime, Vesta is beside himself with regret.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Considers his service as a researcher for Rimuru to be this, as the alliance between Tempest and Dwargon means any successes he has will benefit both nations, simultaneously atoning for his past misdeeds and continuing to serve king Dwargo's interests.
  • Our Dwarves Are All the Same: Interestingly, he's actually pretty tall and slim compared to many other dwarves, to the point he could easily be mistaken for a human.
  • The Rival: To Kaijin, which leads to his Driven by Envy Start of Darkness.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: He initially went around without any sort of eyewear when acting as a high-and-mighty aristocrat, but once he's forced to experience a Heel Realization by Gazel, after which he switches focusing all his time and effort into scientific pursuits for Rimuru as The Atoner, he immediately starts wearing big-rimmed circular glasses to highlight his intellect.
  • Undying Loyalty: Say what you will of him, but never call him disloyal to Gazel. He accepted his exile because he realized his actions ended up making things difficult for his king.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Jerkass aside, he does want to be a helpful minister to Gazel, and his realization that he allowed his own failings to ruin what could have been a powerful partnership with Rimuru causes him to break down in tears.

    Kaijin
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kaijin_anime.png
Voiced by: Atsushi Ono (Japanese), Bruce Dubose (English) Foreign VAs

A dwarven blacksmith that befriends Rimuru after helping cure some of his friends. He joins Rimuru after being exiled thanks to Vesta.

  • Birds of a Feather: He and Kurobee become friends soon enough because of their shared passion for blacksmithing. He doesn't even let Kurobee's superior blacksmithing skills get in the way of that.
  • The Blacksmith: An incredibly skilled one at that, being charged with forging the weapons for the dwarven military. Especially notable in that it's not actually his major job (at least before he fell out of favor).
  • The Engineer: Before he fell out of favor, he was the head of Dwargon's Engineering Corps, tasked with building various machines and groundbreaking weapons of warfare. What should have been the crowning jewel of that was the "Advanced Magisoldier Project".
  • The Exile: Leaves Dwargon to join Tempest after being exiled.
  • Retired Badass: He was once the captain of one of the seven orders of holy knights in the kingdom, specifically of the Engineering Corps, though he was forced to retire due to Vesta's actions.
  • The Rival: To Vesta both in military and as an artisan. In fact, being passed over for promotion in favor of Kaijin was Vesta's Start of Darkness.

    Kaido
Voiced by: Shouto Kashii (Japanese), Jeff Johnson (English) Foreign VAs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kaidou_tensura.png

The captain of the Dwarven Kingdom Guard, who briefly detained Rimuru and Gobta after an unfortunate incident outside the Kingdom's gate.

  • I Owe You My Life: More like "I owe you my friends lives". After Rimuru made a large amount of high-quality recovery medicine to help the survivors of monsters in the mines, whatever suspicions Kaido had about him were wiped away.
  • Not What It Looks Like: He and other guardsmen rushed up to a commotion outside the gates and discovered a group of unconscious and panicking people centered around two monsters. This was because a large group of people had started harassing and attacking Rimuru and Gobta, and the former used an intimidation power to scare them off.
  • The Power of Trust: Accepting the above-mentioned recovery medicine from a pair of monsters (one of who had escaped both the bars he was behind and the barrel he'd been stuck in), was a leap of faith that made things better for everyone, in the end.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Acknowledged that Rimuru's story about self-defense matched up with the witnesses' testimony, and seemed ready to give him the benefit of the doubt, even before Rimuru made a large amount of recovery medicine to help a number of injured dwarves.

Sorceror's Dynasty Sarion

    Elalude Grimwald

Archduke Elalude Grimwald

Voiced by: Kenji Hamada (Japanese), Robert McCollum (English) Foreign VAs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elalude_anime.png

An Archduke of the Sorceror's Dynasty Sarion, which is the main elven kingdom around, who is the uncle of Empress Elumeshia Elure Sarion and father of Elyune.

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Elyune definitely thinks so due to his overprotective and gushing nature over her, and others sympathize.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: To the Heavenly Emperor Elmesia, whose willful personality leaves him dealing with a lot of difficulties.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: While it was in part a Secret Test of Character, he really was serious about charging that partially-faked Ultra Flame Ritual to launch at Rimuru on mere suspicion that he had done something untoward with his daughter.
  • Eyes Always Shut: His default expression, and they only open to show his green eyes when he's being emotional.
  • Number Two: He is stated to be second in authority only to the Heavenly Emperor.
  • Playing with Fire: He knows the Ultra Flame Ritual/Ultimate Fireburst Technique, which is a combination of a flame spell with a blazing affinity and a blast spell with an explosive affinity. According to Rimuru in the ISEKAI Memories event "Training Places", even someone like Shizu could only cast a combo spell like this by borrowing power from spirits (and in context, he wants Benimaru and Phobio to handle the two separate parts of the combo together), but Erald is a master mage enough to do it on his lonesome.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He was put in charge of the delegation to Tempest not simply for his high rank, but because he's a trusted official in Sarion with good judgement and thus would make the right choice about whether or not to ally with Rimuru. He gives Rimuru several Armor Piercing Questions to gauge his intentions and observes his intended plans going forward before finally giving his approval and asking for official relations.
  • Remote Body: He may be a powerful mage, but in a world like his there's always the risks of assassination or kidnapping, so for security's sake he transfers his conscious to a homunculus body when leaving Sarion's borders, as he can always abandon the body if push comes to shove.

Beast Country of Yuurazania

Three Beastketeers

The three strongest warriors under Demon Lord Carrion who serve as his subordinate rulers.
    In General
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: They have their position by dint of being Carrion's strongest acknowledged subordinates.
  • Blood Knight: All three of them love a good brawl, though Albis tends to keep a lid on it when she's not in battle and doesn't actively seek out combat unlike Phobio and Suphia.
  • Klingon Promotion: To become a Beasketeer, you must be strong enough to defeat one.
  • Power Trio: The three are the most powerful beastmen in Yuurazania as well as Carrion's top subordinates.
  • Shout-Out: A Pun-based one on the The Three Musketeers.
  • You Are in Command Now: When Carrion is defeated and kidnapped by Milim and Frey, the three are left in charge of what's left of the kingdom and ally with Tempest in the mean time.

    Albis

Golden Serpent/Snakehorn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/albisanime.png
Voiced by: Ai Kakuma (Japanese), Elizabeth Maxwell (English) Foreign VAs

The leader of the Beastketeers, a Snake Lycanthrope.

  • Action Girl: Fully capable of handling herself in a fight. During the war with Clayman, she fought and defeated the Middle Finger Yamza, the Commander-in-Chief of Clayman's forces, by herself and only needed helped from Gobta to deal with a sneak attack she likely could have handled, and Benimaru's help when Yamza was forcibly transformed into Charbydis when he was about to surrender.
  • Genius Bruiser: She's the leader not just for her strength, but because she's the thinker between Suphia and Phobio. Of course, because she rarely gets a chance to actually fight and usually assumes a command position, most enemies assume she's the weakest when she's actually the strongest.
  • Happily Married: To Benimaru, and technically co-wife with Momiji.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: She doesn't drink by the bottle, she drinks by the barrel and holds it in her snake coils to tip it into her mouth.
  • Magic Staff: She uses a staff to both channel her magic and fight in melee, often combining the two together.
  • Magical Eye: Her Extra Skill [Snake Eyes] applies all manner of status ailments on foes within her vision such as paralysis, poison, insanity, petrification and others. As shown in her fight with Yamza and further elaborated in ISEKAI Memories event "Training Places", they can even affect inanimate objects, such as destroying Yamza's Doppelganger Bracelet without her physically touching it in the former and turning Souei's Sticky Steel Thread into stone with the later.
  • Medusa: While her beast type is officially a Snake Person, she also draws from Medusa through her Magical Eyes being able to petrify, paralyze, and drive insane those she looks at.
  • Number Two: She is considered the second-in-command of Yuurazania, as well as acting as the leader when Carrion went missing after his duel with Milim.
  • One-Winged Angel: She has a second tier of her lamia form that gives her a more feral appearance, grows more scales along her body, enlargening her horns while giving her another one out of her forehead, forms markings under her eyes, and gives her a new wardrobe that hugs her body even more.
  • Shock and Awe: She uses purple lightning for offensive purposes, albeit in the more traditional bolts and shocks rather than Suphia's enhanced strikes. She also channels her special abilities through the lightning once she goes One-Winged Angel, resulting in bolts that petrify or melt the targets..
  • Snake Person: Her true beast form is a lamia, having her entire lower body turn into the long coiling body of a snake, though with the addition of becoming a Horned Humanoid.
  • Snakes Are Sexy: A beautiful buxom woman who can transform into a lamia form for combat.
  • Space Master: Her Unique Skill [Oppressor] combines the effects of Mind Acceleration, Spatial Control, and Spatial Motion, which means she can lock down enemy movement by preventing teleportation as well as freely teleporting herself and her close allies.
  • Underestimating Badassery: She gets underestimated by Yamza, who thinks that her speciality is attacking from a ranged distance with magic, and he is caught off-guard when Albis demonstrates that she is a master Close-Range Combatant as well.
  • The Worf Effect: Downplayed. Shortly after revealing her One-Winged Angel form and curbstomping Yamza, the leader of Clayman's Five Fingers who initially believed they were evenly matched, her full power is unable to land the critical damage necessary to destroy the revived Charybdis, despite it being weaker than the original monster, as that would require at least a Demon Lord-level attack from someone like her own leader Carrion.

    Suphia

White Tiger Claw

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/suphia_anime.png
Voiced by: Yo Taichi (Japanese), Terri Doty (English) Foreign VAs

A tiger Lycanthrope.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk: She fights with her bare hands combined with electricity.
  • Blood Knight: She was looking for an excuse to pick a fight with someone from Tempest during the second diplomatic visit after Phobio's disasterous first contact, and all too eagerly fights Shion with gusto. Plus when Veldora is regaling kids with stories (complete with physical re-enactments), she's eagerly listening to the parts that involve fighting just as much as the kids are.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: She develops a friendship with Shion after the two fought during the meeting of envoys.
  • Great White Feline: Suphia is a white tiger-themed Beastman and is a warrior of high rank in Yuurazania. She also fits literally, transforming into a full-on white tiger after their first engagement with Tempest.
  • Jerkass Façade: When initially introduced, she's very rude and abrasive in order to pick a fight with one of Tempest's warriors, to see if the country was worth doing business with. After the conflict is over and Rimuru asks if they passed, Suphia drops the act entirely, going on to say they're quite worthy.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Like Albis, she is shown to like drinking a lot.
  • Little Bit Beastly: In her humanoid form, she still has her ears, tail, and fur on her limbs.
  • Mistaken Identity: Played for Laughs in the ISEKAI Memories event "Training Places" when a horde of Evil Centipedes all start chasing Suphia because this particular sub-species that lives underground in Yuurazania all have tiger stripes while they're larva in order to act as mimicry against potential predators thinking them to be dangerous beasts. As a result, they think Suphia is a lost child and they're trying to drag her back to their nests.
  • Not Quite Flight: She has access to a skill called "Airwalk" that allows her to effectively "run" on air.
  • Shock and Awe: Her main power, which she uses to augument her physical strikes.

    Phobio

Black Leopard Fang

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phobiomanga2.png
Voiced by: Seiichirō Yamashita (Japanese), Stephen Fu (English) Foreign VAs

A Leopard Lycanthrope who initially came to Tempest thinking he could annex it easily into Carrion's kingdom. An encounter with Milim put an end to that quickly.

  • All for Nothing: Becomes Charybdis's host in exchange for enough power to defeat Milim... and is still no match for her.
  • Demonic Possession: He's tricked into being possessed by Charbydis by Clayman's fellow clowns so he can try and get revenge on Milim for his embarrassing defeat.
  • Eldritch Transformation: Being used as a host by Charbydis transforms his body into a shark-like Draconic Abomination.
  • Healing Factor: Even after being separated from Charbydis, being merged with its core gave him access to its Ultraspeed Regeneration.
  • Humble Pie: He accepts his after being possessed by Charbydis and still being easily defeated by Milim, whereupon he swallows his pride and thanks Rimuru for sparing his life and offering a nonaggression pact with his country as an apology for his previous behavior.
  • Ignored Expert: When Milim attacks Yuurazania, Suphia is initially eager to fight but Phobio recounts his "battles" with her both in his normal form and as Charbydis, and notes all three Beastketeers fighting together wouldn't stand a chance. Despite this, Carrion still insists that he alone can beat her, only to learn firsthand that the power Milim showed off against Charbydis truly wasn't anything close to her being serious.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: At the time of his arrival in Tempest, he actually had a higher Magicule count than Benimaru post-Orc Disaster, which would have made him a terror to deal with in a fight if still not unbeatable, especially if Rimuru's elites had all had a chance to gang up on him. Unfortunately for him, he decided to cause a ruckus in the nation Milim took a liking to, plus Rimuru himself was far beyond that marker at this point and would have easily handled him once he arrived to the scene if Milim hadn't done so herself.
  • Overzealous Underling: Carrion did indeed tell him to go to Tempest. He did not tell him, however, to try and conquer it, but rather to scout it out.
  • Playing with Fire: He can light his extremities on fire to increase his striking power.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When he's not letting his arrogance or Hot-Blooded nature rule him, Phobio shows he has leadership skills. He tells his second-in-command to return to Carrion as fast as possible to inform him of Charbydis' resurrection and of his intent to try and take its power for himself, and then announces his intent to renounce his position as a Beastketeer so that if he fails this doesn't blow back on Carrion's reputation.
  • Smug Super: Subverted. He's incredibly confident in his ability and prowess, and Great Sage notes that at the time of his arrival in Tempest, his Magicule count was actually higher than Benimaru's post-Orc Disaster event. Unfortunately for Phobio, he decided to muck around in the nation Milim took a liking to and Rimuru was far ahead of that marker himself, so the attempt to browbeat Tempest came up quite short to his surprise and embarrassment.

Other Beastmen

    Grucius
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/grucius_anime.png
Voiced by: Satoshi Hino (Japanese), Nazeeh Tarsha (English) Foreign VAs

A Wolf Beastman sent as part of the official delegation to Tempest. Initially serving as the carriage driver, he ends up becoming an official emissary and strikes up a friendship with Youm Farmenas.

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: After Myulan is revealed as responsible for placing the Anti-Magic Area that prevented Tempest from contacting Rimuru, Grucius pleads to Rimuru to show her mercy, stating that she couln't resist Clayman's hold over her.
  • Amazon Chaser: He becomes attracted to Myulan after she easily defeats him in a sparring match.
  • Friendly Rivalry: He strikes up an Interspecies Friendship with Youm Farmenas, with the two of them becoming sparring partners and rivals for the affection of Myulan.
  • Noble Wolf: His alternate form is a wolf, and he's an honorable person who is fiercely loyal to his friends and lord.
  • Romantic Runner-Up: To Youm for Myulan's affections. Grucius isn't too broken up since Youm's still his best friend, and jokes that since Youm is just a human and Myulan is a Majin, he just has to wait until Youm has passed away from old age to comfort the grieving widow, which for obvious reasons irritates Youm to no end.
  • Undying Loyalty: While he deeply values his friendship with Youm, he makes it clear to Youm that he wouldn't hesitate to kill him if Carrion ordered him to do so.
  • Worthy Opponent: He acknowledged Youm after their brief duel, stating that there aren't many humans who can fight against him equally.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: His friendship with Youm consists of them snarking at each other and trying to one-up each other when competing for Myulan's affections.

    Phos
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phos_3.png
A Fox Beastman sent by Carrion to covertly investigate Tempest after he made an alliance so that he can determine what kind of country it is.
  • Action Girl: As a member of the Beast Warrior's Alliance, she's very skilled in combat.
  • Hero of Another Story: Is one of the main characters of the spin-off Trinity in Tempest.
  • Little Bit Beastly: She is a Fox Beastman and can utilize the ability to change her form into a a specialized combat form, which enhances her senses and abilities.
  • Straight Man: Compared to Stella and Nemu, Phos seems to be the most levelheaded of among her friends. Though this role is often swapped with Nemu when Phos decides to go all battle manic.

Harpy Kingdom Fulbrosia

    Nemu
A Harpy sent out by Frey to covertly investigate Tempest after Carrion made an alliance so that she can determine what kind of country it is.
  • Hero of Another Story: Is one of the main characters of the spin-off Trinity in Tempest.
  • Meaningful Name: "Nemu" is Japanese for "Sleep". Her favourite thing to do is sleeping.
  • Money Dumb: Unlike Phos, who leanred it rather quickly due to the tempest merit point system being similar, Nemu has the terrible combination of poor impulse control and no understanding of currency.
  • Only Sane Man: She is the only one of the trio that is not a battle maniac.
  • Really Royalty Reveal: She is the youngest daughter of Frey, but still on the front lines.
  • Sleepyhead: Her personal goal is to sleep with Rimuru as a pillow, and she is often seen sleeping.
  • Spider-Sense: One that is run on pure instinct that is so refined that even Frey trusts it. It even allowed her to get out of dodge when Shion offered to cook for the trinity.
  • Verbal Tic: She always used "nano" in either the beginning or end of her sentences. Fitting since it is the japanese female equivilant of "ya'know"

City of the Forgotten Dragon

Dragon Faithful

    In General
The loyal worshippers of Demon Lord and Dragon Princess Milim Nava.
  • Badass Preacher: The hundred or so priests are the cream of the crop when it comes to fighting ability, as they're handpicked from the masses for their potential and their daily "prayer sessions" to Milim are actually battle training.
  • Draconic Humanoid: Played with. Technically they're all Dragonewts who are descendants of dragons who took human form and mated with humans, but by the present day the dragon blood is so diluted that very few of them actually have the ability to assume a draconic form or even manifest draconic features.
  • Magical Eye: Both Hermes and Middray have been shown possessing the skill [Dragon Glance], a lesser variant of Milim's [Dragon Eye], where instead of granting the ability to see through lies and perceive the true power of a person, those two simply have sight-based Super-Senses like being able to perfectly see things happening miles away and having Innate Night Vision.
  • Uneven Hybrid: Due to their Dragon Ancestry, as a whole they have significant amounts of dragon blood running through their veins, which grants them the inherent power of dragons. But the ancestry has been so diluted through breeding with regular humans through the centuries that very few of them can even turn into actual dragons.
  • Willfully Weak: At first glance, they all look like a bunch of simple folk who rely on Milim for protection and possess no fighting skills. In reality, each and every one of them has the physical skills to make themselves a threat if need be.

    Middray

Father Middray

Voiced by: Atsushi Imaruoka (Japanese), Jason Douglas (English) Foreign VAs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/middray_anime.png

The head priest of the Dragon Faithful.

  • Bald Head of Toughness: He's bald-headed, which acts as a good signifier of how he's a rather tough guy, being the only one among the faithful that can genuinely keep up with Milim when sparring. While he's nowhere near her in overall power, being able to withstand her semi-serious physical blows still makes him very sturdy, strong, and steadfast when fighting anybody else.
  • Beneath the Mask: While he usually expresses his anger freely and openly, he can mask it when required, such as when Yamza insults him and Milim and smashes an apple on his head in an attempt to make him lash out so he can force the Dragon Faithful to march with Clayman's army. Middray keeps up a cool and pleasant demeanor despite the fact the audience (as well as Hermes and Yamza) can tell deep down he just wants to wrap his hands around Yamza's throat and throttle him.
  • Blood Knight: He's a described "battle maniac" who loves a good tussle. He can only seethe in anger at how "weak" Clayman's army must be to get so utterly routed by Tempest and Yuurazania, despite Hermes noting mass battles often aren't decided by strength alone but leadership. He expresses a mutual desire with Benimaru to test themselves against each other after the oni destroys the revived Charybdis.
  • Burning with Anger: Whenever he gets particularly mad (which, given how passionate a man he is about serving Milim, is quite often), his whole head turns red and veiny while he emits a fiery aura.
  • Combat Medic: He knows healing magic, which is rather useful if he needs to take a moment to heal himself or an ally before he goes back to cracking skulls.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His match against Suphia and Gabiru is hideously one-sided. This is to be expected when you are the regular sparring partner of Milim and enjoy it.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He makes a brief appearance in The Slime Diaries before his appearance in the main anime series.
  • Rank Scales with Asskicking: As the head priest of an organization that is made up of Badass Preachers, it's only fitting that he's the strongest one. He's actually a sparring partner for Milim herself, and easily overpowers Suphia before taking her and Gabiru on in a two-on-one.
  • Selective Obliviousness: He never noticed that Milim does not enjoy eating raw ingredients and insists that's the only way they should be prepared. He also is such a strong believer in Milim that anybody pointing out her actual faults enrages him, always rationalizing her Blood Knight tendencies and occasional idiotic actions as having some well-planned purpose.

    Hermes

Hermes

Voiced by: Daiki Kobayashi (Japanese), Howard Wang (English) Foreign VAs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hermes_anime_design.png

Middray's assistant and fellow priest.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Gets his arm chopped off by Yamza due to the latter being a dick and trying to force the Dragon Faithful to march with Clayman's army. Middray reattaches it.
  • Badass Preacher: Held his own and recovered from a fight with Gabiru quite well.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He makes a brief appearance in The Slime Diaries before his appearance in the main anime series.
  • Only Sane Man: The highest ranking priest who recognized that Milim hates eating the raw meals the Dragon Faithful give her for a long time thanks to his travels abroad, but all his attempts to get Middray to notice fall on deaf ears. He's also the only one who has enough of his head still on his shoulders to understand that sometimes Milim doesn't really put much thought into her actions beyond how much fun she can get, with most of her schemes and plans falling under the Indy Ploy instead of her being The Chessmaster.
  • Servile Snarker: He's Middray's assistant, but he's not afraid to snark at his superior. He's also quite willing to point out Milim's childish eccentricities, even in front of the willful ignorance of the super-faithful Middray.

    Stella
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/stella001.png

A member of the Dragon Faithful who traveled to Tempest to expand her knowledge of the culinary arts.

  • Action Girl: As one of the Dragon Faithful, she's very skilled in combat.
  • Blood Knight: To the point that she is Middray's favourite pupil. Her love of mindless, head on battle is a problem for her more often than not.
  • Draconic Humanoid: She's one of the few Dragonewts of the Dragon Faithful who has the ability to manifest dragon traits, in her case wings, horns and tail.
  • Hero of Another Story: Is one of the main characters of the spin-off Trinity in Tempest.
  • Money Dumb: Not as bad as Nemu, but Stella is not very good at handling finances.
  • Supreme Chef: Her goal is to become this and be able to serve Milim fine dishes.
  • Weak, but Skilled: She is one of only three priests of the Dragon Faithful that can use [Dragon Warrior Transformation], with the other two being Middray and Hermes. She is still outstripped by them and many others in the Faithful in terms of power and experience though.

Ice Continent

    Velzard

Velzard

White Ice Dragon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/velzard_anime_8.png

Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi (Japanese), Amanda Lee (English) Foreign VAs

One of the Four True Dragons and considered the strongest of the remaining three after Veldanava's death. Velzard is a being uninterested in most worldly matters, preferring to remain within the Palace of White Ice and keep the Ice Continent frozen over with her power. However, her status as Guy Crimson's acknowledged equal and partner means anyone foolish enough to challenge her will not live to realize their mistake.

  • Anti-Magic: One of the effects of Leviathan is to "degrade"/weaken the effects of her opponent's Skills.
  • Big Sister Bully: Veldora definitely considers her one, and for good reason considering her idea of "disciplining" him for his violent outbursts involved killing him and waiting for his reincarnation to see if he learned his lesson.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Due to Justice King Michael taking control of her through Gabriel, she fights on his side and attacks Guy, though Guy realizes there's at least some More than Mind Control at play.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Her first ever interaction with Guy involved her trying to kill him simply because she didn't like how her big brother Veldanava showed him so much attention, attention she believed would be better served pointed at her. She only calmed down after she saw how strong he was and decided he was worth that attention. This is presumably the root of her obtaining [Envious King Leviathan].
  • Endless Winter: The "Ice Continent" exists because of her, as it's her aura that keeps it permanently frozen over from its original state.
  • Energy Absorption: One of the effects of Leviathan allows her to absorb her foe's energy to replenish her own.
  • Fire/Ice Duo: The "Ice" to her younger sister Velgrynd's "Fire".
  • An Ice Person: Thanks to her Ultimate Skill [Patience King Gabriel], she can "freeze" (stop the momentum of) anything, up to and including time itself. Her aura alone is enough to keep the entire Ice Continent frozen over at a temperature of -120 degrees Celsius.
  • Icy Blue Eyes: She has these in her human form, which help denote her ice powers.
  • Killer Rabbit: Notably, Velzard's preferred human form, unlike Velgrynd who is a Ms. Fanservice and Veldora who is a Hunk, is that of a young teenaged girl. She can still utterly wreck house even like this, with this being the form she always fought her siblings in. Averted when she assumes her adult appearance, which might be even more fanservicey than Velgrynd.
  • Mystical White Hair: She has this in her human form, which denotes both her mystical nature and raw power as a True Dragon.
  • Semantic Superpower: At its core, Gabriel's power is based on the concept of "deceleration" or "slowing down". This ability allows her to slow attacks to a crawl to easily avoid them, slow down molecules to force air into solid walls, slow the effects of erosion and degradation, create ice, and even suspend time for the planet for several minutes at a time.
  • World's Strongest Woman: The only being in the world who can rival her niece Milim for this title, being among the few who can claim herself an equal of Guy Crimson. She's claimed multiple fatal victories over her brother Veldora and forced her sister Velgrynd to develop an entire technique dedicated to defeating her all without needing to go all-out. This still holds true in the end, as the most Veldora could do in their practice match after gaining an Ultimate Skill and learning actual combat technique was make her exert a bit of effort to defeat him.

    Rain

Rain

Primordial Bleu

Voiced by: Eri Yukimura (Japanese), Jenny Yokobori (English) Foreign VAs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rain_anime_design.png

The Blue Progenitor and Demon Peer who serves Guy Crimson as one of his maids.

  • Beneath the Mask: She comes off as calm and composed as Misery at first, but that's merely a front for her real personality as a much less serious person.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She might be more goofy than her appearance first suggests, but it must be remembered she's as strong as fellow Primordial Misery, outright called as strong as Leon Cromwell himself, and both are Guy's most powerful demon subordinates.
  • BFG: In ISEKAI Memories, her first playable appearance has her summoning a Magitek laser cannon comparable in size to her own body for her finisher.
  • Bullying a Dragon: She fights Diablo with the intent of wanting him to go all-out against her, confident that he's still too unused to a physical body to win against her. Ignoring the fact that Diablo is the only Primordial to have equaled Guy in combat (something that Rain and Misery together couldn't manage once upon a time), she goads him by intentionally insulting Rimuru right to his face. The result is her on the wrong end of a Curb-Stomp Battle that she only survives thanks to Ubiquital Mist and Diablo knowing she had the copy ready but viewing that as a lesson.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She's a focus character in Volume 17 of the light novel, which focuses on several side characters.
  • Lazy Bum: She hates doing work and tries to pawn off as much of it as she can to Misery.
  • Meaningful Name: She was named "Rain" after the "rain of blood" that would follow Guy's slaughters.
  • Me's a Crowd: Her Skill Ubiquital Mist allows her to divide up and regenerate her body with a second copy, effectively allowing for Fighting a Shadow whenever she wants. Even if the copy is flat-out vaporized, as long as the other is intact she won't die.
  • Ninja Maid: Her role is to be both Guy Crimson's bodyguard/general as well as taking care of miscellaneous tasks such as cleaning, cooking, housekeeping, administrative duties... She would much rather drop her tasks off on Misery though.
  • One-Man Army: When Diablo arrives to confront her, she's surrounded by the fallen forms of multiple paladins (which the narration takes time to note are each worth a thousand normal men) that tried to fight her while not even winded from the effort.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Ironically, she's the Red to Misery's Blue, being the Lazy Bum who hates doing her tasks and is far more passionate about things.

    Misery

Misery

Primordial Vert

Voiced by: Yuki Hirose (Japanese) Foreign VAs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/misery_anime_design.png

The Green Progenitor and Demon Peer who serves Guy Crimson as one of his maids.

  • Cult: She's the object of worship to one, the Apostles of Vert, which she tolerates being worshipped as in order to gather intelligence in the human nations.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Unlike Rain, who goads Diablo into a fight and suffers for it, Misery weighs the odds of fighting Testarossa and Moss (Both of them also being Demon Peers) at the same time and judges it not worth the risk, retreating without a fight as she had already accomplished one of her objectives in appearing before the Council of the West and destroying the barrier around Ingracia.
  • Magic Knight: While she normally fights with magic, ISEKAI Memories reveals Misery also has personal magic weapons she can wield for physical combat. Those being a greatsword nearly as tall as she is, and she can also summon a second one to commit to Dual Wielding.
  • Meaningful Name: She was named "Misery" to reflect the "misery of mankind" Guy brought upon the world.
  • Ninja Maid: Her role is to be both Guy Crimson's bodyguard/general as well as taking care of miscellaneous tasks such as cleaning, cooking, housekeeping, administrative duties... She takes her job much more seriously than Rain.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: She's the Blue to Rain's Red, being the serious and devoted one to Guy.
  • The Stoic: Unlike Rain, who puts up the mask of solemnness, Misery's stoicism is completely natural.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: As a Demon Peer with power explicitly compared to a True Demon Lord, Misery is more than capable of unleashing widespread devastation, with it being noted she could easily burn down all of Ingracia on her lonesome.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Played with, as compared to most beings she and Rain are plenty Strong and Skilled, but compared to most of the Primordials they're this. Ever since becoming Guy's subordinates, they've spent more time on administrative duties running the kingdom over training and fighting equals, so their actual combat experience pales in comparison to the constantly fighting Testarossa, Ultima, and Carerra. This is why she declines fighting Testarossa and Moss at the Council of the West when given the chance, as despite both of them being just recently-ascended Demon Peers compared to her, she's not interested in such a close fight when it's not needed.

Puppet Nation Jistav

Five Fingers

    Five Fingers in General
The Five Fingers are the closest servants of the Demon Lord Clayman, who is known the "Marrionate Master".
  • Forced into Evil: Some members of the fingers such as Adalman and Kumara were forced into servitude by Clayman, while the likes of Myulan were given a Deal with the Devil that forced to be loyal.
  • Theme Naming: Each of the Five Fingers has a corresponding title named after a specific hand finger.
  • Quirky Miniboss Squad: They are essentially the top subordinates of Clayman due to their useful abilites.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Due to Clayman's Bad Boss tendencies, he has shown no regard for the safety of his Fingers, freely casting them aside and even leaving them to their deaths if they prove no longer useful.

    Yamza

Yamza

Frozen Swordmage

Voiced by: Yūya Hirose (Japanese), Bryson Baugus (English) Foreign VAs
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yamza_anime_design.png

The Middle Finger of Clayman's Five Fingers, Yamza is considered Clayman's strongest subordinate and the Commander-in-Chief of his army. As despicable as he is competent, Yamza is the only member of the Five Fingers who swore loyalty to Clayman willingly rather than be magically enslaved and thus enjoys privileges the others lack.

  • Asshole Victim: Sure, being forced to transform into a Draconic Abomination and losing your mind/soul in the process only to get put out of your misery seconds later is a tough way to go, but Yamza being such a petty, cowardly ass for nearly his whole screentime makes it clear he deserves it.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Yamza does not believe in a fair fight. Despite calling out Albis to a one-on-one duel, he has several men jump her from behind and tries to stab her in the back when she turns around to finish them off, only interrupted by Gobta's intervention. He then repeatedly tries to quickly kill Gobta while he's talking to Albis or his men, which the hobgoblin repeatedly counters.
  • Dirty Coward: When Clayman's army is getting curb-stomped by Tempest and Yuurazania, he lies to his staff and claims he's going to go and bring back Adalman to turn the tide, when in reality he was about to run to save his own skin. Only Albis' intervention forces him to stay and fight for his life, he tries for a cheat shot In the Back by using his men as a flanking distraction, and when she offers him a chance to live after winning if he surrenders he only hesitates out of pride before agreeing. Unfortunately for him, he wasn't nearly as free of Clayman's influence as he thought.
  • Doppelgänger Attack: His ace-in-the-hole is a Magic Ring that lets him create a copy of himself that's as strong as he is, which uses for both surprise attacks and to overwhelm his foes with numbers. In the manga, the Charbydis created from him retains this power due to assimilating the ring, but in the light novel and anime Albis destroys the ring first just to emphasize how little a chance he actually has while disparging such a weak "ace-in-the-hole".
  • Elemental Weapon: Part of his Red Baron, as he wields an Ice Blade whose blade seems to be made of ice given to him by Clayman.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: About the only clothing accessory he wears that's the same on both sides is his Cool Mask. Even his hair is asymmetrical, one half black with long and messy/spiky bangs compared to the neater white half.
  • Genre Savvy: He may be an ass, but Yamza isn`t stupid. He immediately recognized Gobta as a commanding officer and attacked him, not falling for the Lethal Joke Character trope at all. He also tried to turn tail from the battle knowing it was lost and that facing Clayman afterwards would have ended in death or turned into a soulless puppet.
  • Hypocrite: Tries to claim Albis dishonors the name of the Three Beasteketeers by having Gobta and his Goblin Riders as back up in what was supposed to be a one-on-one duel. Ignoring the fact that she was only partially aware they were even there, the only reason they got involved was because Yamza tried to sic some of his men on Albis and tried to stab her In the Back when she dealt with them, and they let Albis fight him on her own again.
  • Jerkass: Myulan describes him as a lowlife as despicable as he is competent. His Establishing Character Moment involves him smashing an apple on Middray's head while insulting him, Milim, and her people all so he can force a rise out of him and strongarm the Dragon Faithful in going to war with the army, and he doesn't hesitate to slice off Hermes' arm simply for speaking out against him and threatens to take more.
  • Magic Knight: As his Red Baron suggests, he's a swordsman who wields a Spell Blade into battle and also has a Magic Ring.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: The major reason he lost. He was very competent, but against the forces of Tempest he was hideously outmatched, only being able to tie Gobta at best while being utterly crushed by Albis' full power.
  • The Reliable One: The only one of the five fingers to really make the hero's work for victory. Myulan description of him was very accurate, as capable as he is a jerk (which is really saying something).
  • Underestimating Badassery: Averted and played straight. Yamza is currently the only person in the series to not underestimate Gobta at first glance, immediately recognizing him as a commanding officer despite appearances. Despite this, he actually does underestimate Albis, believing his Doppelganger would be his trump card against her only to realize just how outclassed he really is when she breaks out her second One-Winged Angel and destroys his Magic Ring.
Yamza: "You may look like a joke, but you're clearly a commanding officer"
  • Undying Loyalty: Subverted. He might have willingly joined Clayman of his own free will, but he did so explicitly because he didn't want to get magically enslaved and thus lose the ability to run off or betray him. Just as well, since Clayman felt no such loyalty to him, either.

    Pirone

Pirone

Voiced by: Rina Honnizumi (Japanese), Macy Anne Johnson (English) Foreign VAs
Clayman's Little Finger, who is responsible for gathering intelligence and infiltrating human society.
  • Accidental Murder: She ends up getting killed after Noir deflects Razen's "Nuclear Cannon" attack upwards, catching her off-guard and killing her, though Clayman suspects that Noir sensed her presence and redirected the attack to intentionally kill her. The manga confirms this, showing Noir spotting her even from an extreme distance just before deflecting Razen's blast into her.
  • Harping on About Harpies: Her armwings and leg talons mark her as a member of the harpy race or at least a race similar to it.
  • Killed Offscreen: In the Light Novel and anime, her death is only mentioned in passing by Clayman and not shown.
  • Out of Focus: Compared to the other Five Fingers, she doesn't play a prominent role in the story.
  • The Spymaster: She is Clayman's main covert agent, whom he relies upon for gathering most of his intel reports. Her death during the Falmuth massacre is the major reason why Clayman is unable to realize that Rimuru's story about Veldora awakening and slaughtering the army is false.

A demon subordinate of Clayman of the Ten Great Demon Lords. Seeking to expand his master's dominion, he manipulated the various factions of the Jura Forest with the intent of conquering it all, only to find his plans coming apart at the seams thanks to one Rimuru Tempest...

  • Asshole Victim: He manipulated the residents of the Jura Forest with the intent of letting them all get killed and/or eaten by the Orc Lord Geld to turn him into a Demon Lord, who in turn he always saw as a simple pawn. Absolutely no one feels sorry when Geld decides to kill and eat him.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He yells at Geld to hurry up and eat his enemies to evolve into a Demon Lord. Geld takes his advice to heart and kills him, devouring his corpse to kickstart his evolution.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: His "fight" with Rimuru consists of his attacks getting nullified before Rimuru ties him up and rams his fist and foot into him hard enough to send him flying.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: He's so busy bragging about how Geld is going to kill Rimuru and his subordinates for ruining his plans he doesn't even notice Geld drawing back his blade for the killing blow.
  • Malevolent Masked Man: He wears a Plague Doctor mask to hide his face. We never see what he looks like underneath it.
  • Off with His Head!: How he dies, courtesy of Geld's butcher knife.
  • Smug Snake: Far too confident in his plans for his own good, and far too confident in his power to think he'd last rushing right into the middle of the battlefield with people who want him dead. He quickly caves and yells at the Orc Lord to help him.
  • Villain in a White Suit: Emulating his master Clayman, he dresses in a mostly white suit and hat to give off a fancy impression. He's an antagonistic demon.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When he sees Rimuru's small force completely destroying the hundreds-of-thousands-strong Orc army, he starts breaking down in panic and fear upon realizing his head is on the chopping block with Clayman if he doesn't fix things, and thus he rushes to the battlefield. Once he gets there, he starts yelling in anger at them for getting in his way of creating a new Demon Lord and starts insulting everyone there, including the Orc Lord before going on the attack. When Rimuru No Sells his attempt and casually kicks his ass, he only gets worse as he panics and yells at the Orc Lord to help him.
  • You Have Failed Me: He declares Gabiru is this for not dying and being eaten by the Orc Lord yet. He himself fears being on the receiving end of this from Clayman.
