The Tribes

Initial Tribes: David (Orange), Goliath (Purple) → Tribe Switch: Vuku (Orange), Jabeni (Purple), Tiva (Green) → Merge Tribe: Kalokalo (Light Blue)

     David/Vuku
  • All for Nothing: The Davids worked as hard as they could to take the numbers advantage from the Goliaths, and once they succeed, they tear themselves apart and give the Goliaths a 4-2 advantage in the finale. Fortunately, Nick survived till the final three and won, giving the David's a victory.
  • David vs. Goliath: Of course.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After Carl joined the tribe swapped Vuku, they came first in both the reward and immunity challenges on Episode 5, and would later win the final tribal immunity challenge in Episode 6.
  • Total Party Kill: The version of this tribe after the Episode 4 switch failed to get any of their members into the Final Three.
  • True Companions: After the Elizabeth is voted out, the five remaining Davids became this. This is a huge reason why they manage to escape two eliminations at the final eleven and twelve. Eventually, this became subverted after Christian and Gabby voted out Carl.
  • Underdogs Never Lose: The motif for their tribe, though it appears subverted early on with only winning the first reward challenge and losing the first two elimination challenges. Despite that, they did manage to send two Goliath's home in the tribe swapped episodes. Even after Elizabeth was eliminated right after the merge, the five stuck together, and with a collection of advantages, they got two of the strongest Goliath's out. And then when the Davids were reduced to just Nick, he persevered and won the final immunity challenges to ensure his spot in the final tribal council.

     Goliath/Jabeni
  • David vs. Goliath: Of course.
  • Divided We Fall: Since the tribe swap, the Goliaths went from a 9-7 number advantage to a 7-6 numbered advantage leading into the merge. This was due to Alec and Mike switching sides during their respective Tribal Councils and got rid of Natalia and Natalie.
  • Meaningful Name: Jabeni means "champion" in Fiji. Ironically, the final three this season contains all three players from the Jabeni tribe that made it to the merge.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Implied by both their tribe colors and by the fact that they're the Goliath tribe.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Post tribal swapped Jabeni is made up of two Davids and three people of the Goliaths that honestly looked out of place from the initial line up (Angelina, Mike, and Natalie).
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: In comparison to Davids, the Goliaths has a hard time getting along. Nobody trusts Angelina in the game (to the point where Kara and Alec casted votes against her), Kara wanted to vote-out Dan, and Mike/Alison/Alec wanted to work with some of the Davids for a brief time.

     Tiva
  • Emerald Power: With the exception of losing a reward challenge, Tiva went undefeated in their short run, and did not lose a member come the merge.
  • Total Party Kill: Despite their success before the merge, they had all of their members eliminated before the Final Four.

The Sole Survivor

     Nicholas Joseph Caleb "Nick" Wilson
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nick_wilson.PNG

Tribe: David → Jabeni → Kalokalo
Age: 27
From: Williamsburg, Kentucky
Occupation: Public Defender

  • Advantage Ball: Found the vote steal along with Carl in episode 8. He used in the following episode to steal Alison's vote, as part of the David's plan to vote out Dan.
  • Anti-Hero: While the beginning of the first episode painted Nick as scheming and manipulative, the moment where all the Davids bond over past traumas and hardships eventually has him break down and admit his own troubled past, even having him crying for the first time since his mother passed away.
  • Ascended Fan
  • Composite Character: Of J.T. Thomas and Stephen Fishbach with him having the former's sourthern background as well as the latter's strategic gameplay.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Nick grew up surrounded by the opioid crisis in the south, and even lost his mother to it. This is what inspired him to become a public defender.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Nick admitted in a few confessionals that he is willing to do anything to advance his position in the game. However, when Natalie threatens him to send him home if he either doesn't give her his jacket or give her Lyrsa's jacket, he was completely disgusted and abandoned any attempt to work with her.
  • Foil: To Mike. Nick was among the most personally successful Davids, and came across as a scheming manipulator, but proved that he actually is a good guy after becoming friends with Christian. Mike, by contrast, was the "David among the Goliaths" and came across as a friendly Nice Guy. However, he has become Christian's primary opponent.
    • Also to Davie, as both of them are cunning players, found idols, and were leading the David's to get out the Goliaths. However, when Christian betrayed them both, their reactions were stark in contrast — Davie didn't take it personally and still wanted to work with Christian, while Nick did and is trying to cut his throat.
  • History Repeats: Just like fellow Southerner J.T. Thomas, he wins the last three Immunity Challenges, has no votes cast against him throughout the entire game, and also receives seven jury votes.
  • Ironic Echo: Natalie asks him "Is a jacket worth a million dollars?" when he refused to give up his jacket so she could give it to Angelina. After Natalie is voted out and Angelina is futility begging her for her jacket, he asks Angelina "Was that jacket worth a million dollars?"
  • In-Series Nickname: "Kentucky," if he has anything to say about it.
  • It's Personal: How he feels about Christian voting out Carl, which ended up ending their alliance.
  • Last of His Kind: Became the final David left in the Final 5 after Davie's elimination.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Implied to be part of his strategy: if people hear his accent and think of him as a dumb hick, that's fine with him.
  • Odd Friendship: With Christian.
  • Real Men Love Jesus: Has often been seen praying in pre-game sequester.
  • The Nicknamer: Not for people, but for alliances. For instance, his alliance with Christian is called "Mason-Dixon," since the line sits on top of both Kentucky and Maryland. A lot of his nicknames are so cringey that his alliance members straight up refuse to go with those names.
  • No-Damage Run: Nick didn't receive any votes at any Tribal Council he went to, until he made it to Final Tribal.
  • Sole Survivor: Of David Vs. Goliath.
  • Sore Loser: Nick tends to become whiny and angry when things don't go his way.
  • Southern-Fried Genius: Cites being a "Redneck Lawyer" as a point of pride.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Despite him winning zero individual immunity challenges before the finale, he won all three of the immunity challenges. He became the only person that season to win multiple individual immunity challenges.
  • The Good Guys Always Win: He wasn't exactly a saint but compared to Mike's unlikeable behavior post-merge and how Angelina rubbed people in the wrong way he was this.
  • What Beautiful Eyes!: Angelina tries to sway him to her side at one Tribal Council by gushing about his "pretty Wilson blue eyes".
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Basically his reaction to Christian blindsiding him by voting out Carl. As far as he's concerned, Mason-Dixon is dead.

Runners-Up

     Michael Christopher "Mike" White
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mike_white.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Jabeni → Kalokalo
Age: 47
From: San Diego, California
Occupation: Filmmaker
See Mike White for filmmaking credits.

  • Arch-Enemy: Having targeted him thrice now, it's safe to say he's Christian's. His third try is a success.
  • Anti-Villain: Mike's a nice guy and really easy to get along with, but he's still a scheming, treacherous player willing to say and do anything to win.
  • Ascended Fan: While he's no stranger to CBS reality TV, he says he's excited to play Survivor because it's something he's always wanted to do.
  • Birds of a Feather: As of episode two, he's in an alliance with Jeremy, who is also apart of the LGBT spectrum.
  • Celebrity Survivor: Mike is a screenwriter, best known for writing the scripts for Orange County and School of Rock.
  • Crossover: He's appeared on two seasons of The Amazing Race with his father.
  • Deadpan Snarker: He has a very dry wit.
  • Face–Heel Turn: At the start of the season, Mike wanted to work with the Davids and even considered himself as an honorary member of the David tribe. However, at the merge, he ultimately felt he couldn't trust the Davids and threw his lot in with the Goliaths.
  • Foil: To Nick.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Mike references this by name after getting grilled by Natalie over his idol hunting on day one.
  • Hypocrite: Mike told Christian he didn't trust Gabby because he thought she wasn't taking their Strikeforce Alliance seriously. In that same episode, he later then turns on the alliance and tries to get Christian out.
  • It's Personal: He votes Natalie out of the game for no reason other than he personally dislikes her.
  • Kick the Dog: His dismissive treatment of Alison at her final tribal council was uncharacteristically cruel.
  • The Leader: Mike takes over as leader of the Goliaths after Natalie (who was convinced she was the tribe leader) and John (the actual leader) were eliminated in short order.
  • Sadistic Choice: Mike has a major one in episode 6 where he ended up having to either vote-out Angelina or Lyrsa in the game. If he votes out the former, he risks the Davids pagonging the Goliaths in this game. If he votes out out the latter, he will be voting out somebody who he trusts more than the former.
  • Third Time's The Charm: Mike led the charge to vote out Christian on three separate occasions. His third attempt was the one that succeeded.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Mike started of as a nice guy, but come the finale, he started to get meaner to people (especially Alison), and became arrogant in how he orchestrated some late eliminations. This probably bit him in the as though as he lost to Nick in the finale.

     Angelina Michel Keeley
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angelina_keeley.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Jabeni → Kalokalo
Age: 28
From: Sparks, Nevada
Occupation: Financial Consultant

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Begged Dan to play an idol on her once Davie played one on Christian. This ended up causing Dan to waste an idol.
  • Alpha Bitch—>Lovable Alpha Bitch: Tries to get the geeky strategist voted out, despite the fact he is often the first out of each Individual Immunity. Though with the Goliaths backstabbing her, she ended up joining with the David Alliance and even showed some kinder moments, such as when she gave up her shot at immunity to feed the entire tribe.
  • Big Bad: She was shaped up to be the main villain of the season.
  • Cassandra Truth: Told Nick he didn't have to play his idol in episode 13, but he ignored her suggestion and played it — wasting it as no votes were directed to him.
  • The Chessmaster: Instigated a stunning blindside against Jeremy and got the entire tribe to go from unanimously voting out Natalie to unanimously voting him out.
  • The Leader: Was elected student body president of her class at Stanford, where she met Adam Klein. It was watching him play that convinced her to apply to the show.
  • Evil Is Petty: She developed a fixation with jackets to the point that she threw a phony vote at Lyrsa to con Natalie into giving her hers.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: None of the Goliaths trust her very much as they only kept her around due to numbers. Deconstructed as because of how none of the Goliaths trust her as well as her receiving votes from the Goliaths, she ended up flipping to the Davids. It was that same distrust that led her to getting zero votes in the finale.
  • Idiot Ball: Grasped it pretty hard when she decided to tell Elizabeth that she would be the one going home. While it didn't change the outcome of the vote, it's clear that everyone, including her own alliance, saw it as a blatant attempt to gain a jury vote and they proceeded to call her out on it.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Angelina may have started out the season as The Chessmaster, but her inability to disguise her intentions has rendered ostracized from the tribe and given little power beyond being an extra number, no matter what alliance she is in, a fact that she's desperaely trying to combat.
  • Irony: After being accused of trying to get Elizabeth's jury vote, Elizabeth voted for Nick instead.
  • Kick the Dog: She attempted to use a fake idol to publicly humiliate Alison while voting her out, a move which everyone agreed was over the limit of acceptable gameplay. This was one of the reasons she lost to Nick in the finale.
  • Obviously Evil: Pretty much everyone on her tribe can tell that she is a manipulative schemer, to the point that she might actually be the least trusted player in the whole game.
  • Pet the Dog: Angelina willingly gave up her chance at immunity in order to get the Tribe more food, as they were running low on rice.
  • The Pollyanna
  • The Rival: Developed an intense rivalry with Alison after the merge.
  • Refuge in Audacity: She wanted to vote Lyrsa out because she wanted to steal her jacket. Not to mention that she asked Natalie for her jacket as she was leaving the game.
  • Running Gag: A common joke throughout the season is Angelina asking somebody for something.
  • The Smart Guy: She graduated from Stanford with a 4.8 gpa.
  • Sixth Ranger: After some of the Goliaths voted for her in Episode 9, she became this within the Davids Alliance.
  • Smug Snake: Cunning strategist she may be, but her obviousness and her arrogance have rendered her mistrusted and disliked by her tribe.
  • Token Evil Teammate: After joining the Davids.
  • Twofer Token Minority: She's primarily of Latina and Native American descent.
  • Villain Has a Point: Played with. Angelina was right in that voting out Christian was her idea first and that she should be given proper credit for it, but Mike's approach to the idea was more thoughtful and inclusive to the Goliath group as they initially didn't have a target, while Elizabeth had already been decided before Angelina all but demanded they switch it to Christian.
  • Workaholic

Jury

     Kara N. Kay
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kara_kay.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Vuku → Kalokalo
Age: 30
From: San Diego, California
Occupation: Realtor

  • Ascended Fan
  • Determinator
  • Ms. Fanservice: Before going into real estate, Kara was a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers.
  • Ship Tease: With Dan in the first episode.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: By telling some of the Davids about Dan's idol, it lead the Davids to vote for him as well as Carl using his idol nullifier to guarantee that Dan goes home even if Dan plays his idol.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Her first reaction to Alec betraying the Goliaths is anger...and then utter disbelief that she just got played by Alec of all people.

     Alison Laurel Raybould
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alison_raybould.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Tiva → Kalokalo
Age: 28
From: Leawood, Kansas
Occupation: Physician

  • Ascended Fan
  • Butt-Monkey: Alison spent almost the entire merge being targeted for elimination and surviving by the skin of her teeth, but by the final five, she had nowhere else to hide.
  • Callback: The three words she uses to describe herself are "hero, healer, and hustler."
  • Deadpan Snarker: If her cast bio is any indication.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Refused to let Angelina humiliate her with a fake idol by playing it while declaring she knew it was a fake, and handling her fake idol with more grace than Angelina did with her real idol.
  • Irony: Much like her claim to fame, she ended up in 5th place.
  • Out of Focus: At the start of the season, she hasn't gotten a lot of screen time. She has gotten a little more screen time after Natalie Cole was voted out though.
  • The Rival: Developed an intense rivalry with Angelina some time after the merge.
  • Self-Deprecation: Her claim to fame is finishing in fifth place in her grade school spelling bee.
  • Shout-Out: Quotes Dwight Schrute in her cast bio.
  • Undying Loyalty: Flipflopped over the idea of betraying the Goliath's and joining with the David's, but come Episode 9, she decided to go Goliath strong. This bit her in the ass, however, as Nick decided to use his vote steal an advantage on her, not only losing her vote, but seeing Dan sent to the jury.

     Davie Armstrong Rickenbacker
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/davie_rickenbacker.PNG

Tribe: David → Vuku → Kalokalo
Age: 30
From: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Occupation: Social Media Manager

  • Ascended Fan
  • Big Damn Heroes: He managed to prevent Christian's elimination and the David's downfall by playing an idol on the former, and then split the vote to prevent a tie if Dan played his idol on Angelina — which led to John's elimination.
  • Black and Nerdy: AND HOW. In his First One Out interview, he mentions that he cosplayed as King Ezekiel from The Walking Dead, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. He even name dropped the trope during a confessional.
  • Graceful Loser: Left in high spirits, and told whoever orchestrated his elimination just won his vote (unless somebody else does a better move).
  • Jack of All Trades: He also builds doghouses.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: He's the "black sheep" of his family because he's a middle child, and wants to win to give himself something to be proud of that separates him from his brothers.
  • Nothing Personal: How he feels about the game, especially after his allies have been blindsided. Which puts him in stark contrast to Nick.
  • Playing Both Sides: He told Christian that he's the target then voted for him. Whether Christian played his idol or not, Davie would be on the winning side.
  • Real Men Love Jesus: Like Carl, Davie cites his Bible as one of his personal items he'd like on the island.
  • Red Baron: "The social media guru".
  • Saved for the Sequel: Averted. He was originally cast for the season after this, but joined this season after someone withdrew.
  • The Strategist: Davie's usually the one who comes up with the Davids plan of action at Tribal Council.
  • We Need a Distraction: In order to give Carl and Nick cover to find the vote steal, Davie went out on a rock with his staff and did a weird Tae Kwon Do routine to draw their attention.

     Christian Michael Hubicki
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/christian_hubicki.PNG

Tribe: David → Tiva → Kalokalo
Age: 31
From: Baltimore, Maryland
Occupation: Robotics Scientist

  • Big Eater: Pat noted in a pre-game interview that he witnessed Christian effortlessly eat three large pizzas in one sitting. Then in his Ponderosa video, Elizabeth comments that on his first night he ate even more food than Dan, John AND Carl.
  • Birds of a Feather: With fellow nerd Gabby, which led to them becoming friends and entering an alliance.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Perfectly willing to betray allies if it means furthering himself in the game, despite being nicer than Ryan, Spencer, or Cochran.
  • The Confidant: Frequently goes out of his way to comfort people who are upset (most often Gabby), patiently listening to their feelings and essentially acting as a soundboard.
  • Fatal Flaw: His selflessness drives him to be overly accommodating towards players he trusts, ultimately at the cost of his own game.
  • Foil: In a sense, to previous geeky castaways, especially John Cochran, Ryan Ulrich, and Spencer Bledsoe. While they were willing to do anything to survive in the game including betray allies, and paid for it in their first and secondnote  seasons, Christian is a Nice Guy who is extremely kind to everyone outside of his interests in the game while also being a strong strategic player.
  • Foreshadowing: His last words to Gabby after her elimination foreshadowed his own soon after.
Gabby: "I'm sorry Christian! I love you!"
Christian: "We'll see each other again soon, okay?"
  • Hidden Depths: He says he wants to win Survivor to prove that he's not what his degree says he is.
  • In-Series Nickname: John calls him "Sudoku Sam" in pre-game interviews. Mike also called him "Big Bang Theory" during the marooning.
  • Meaningful Name: The guy named Christian wins the immunity challenge where the plays hang on crosses on the season where the theme is a bible reference
  • Motor Mouth:
    • Dude talks up a storm during confessionals. There was even a bit in Episode 1 where the producers started to cut away from his confessional and go into commercial as he was still talking.
    • He also talks to Jeff for a couple hours rambling on about random things during an immunity challenge. Chrisitan actually weaponizies this trait to win the challenge by annoying Alec into submission.
  • Nice Guy: Christian is very empathetic, humble, and easy-going, making him extremely popular among his fellow castaways.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: His blindside of Carl destroyed the David's Alliance, returning the numbers advantage to the Goliaths.
  • Odd Friendship:
    • His "Mason-Dixon" alliance with Nick hinges on this: who expects the nerdy robotics scientist and the good ol' boy from Kentucky to work together?
    • Taken up to eleven with his friendships with his fellow "Brochachos" John, a professional wrestler and superb athlete, and Dan, an incredibly handsome S.W.A.T officer. Didn't stop him from voting John out though.
  • The Smart Guy: He's a robotics professor and won the very first challenge of the game alongside Lyrsa by solving a slide puzzle in seconds, and also uses his knowledge to his advantage in gameplay several times (such as when he successfully finds an idol by using a strategy based on the "breadth-first search" algorithm).
  • Self-Deprecation: Lists his claim to fame as having his research mocked by Stephen Colbert on national television.
  • Ship Tease: With Gabby. Later becomes Ship Sinking when his girlfriend of 13 years shows up for the loved ones' visit.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: With the Goliaths clearly in power, his move to blindside John could be seen as a warning for Angelina.
  • Tragic Mistake: His decision to help Gabby blindside Carl. This mistake ripped apart the Davids, turned his two closest allies Nick and (ironically) Gabby against him, and caused him to get voted out.
  • 100% Heroism Rating: Everyone on the cast and outside the cast liked Christian to the point that people voiced conflicted feelings about the idea of voting him off simply because they liked having him around. This ultimately worked against him, however, as his charm and lovable personality combined with his intelligence ended up making him the most obvious jury threat.

     Gabby Pascuzzi
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gabby_pascuzzi.PNG

Tribe: David → Tiva → Kalokalo
Age: 25
From: St. Augustine, Florida
Occupation: Technical Writer

  • Ascended Fan
  • Break the Cutie: Wanted to blindside Christian since she was worried she wouldn't get credit at FTC for moves both of them made such as the Carl blindside, and ended up voted out as Christian played his idol.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Was shocked that Christian played his idol and she became a secondary target the night she tried to send Christian home.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Much of Gabby's story revolves around trying to prove that she can be a major power player.
  • Ineffectual Loner: She's terrified of the fact that she is this. Her meekness and Christian's popularity put her on the outs with her tribe.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Ultimately trying to blindside and betray her closest ally Christian opened the opportunity to make her a back-up target, and get voted off when Christian played his idol.
  • Prone to Tears: Gabby is very emotional and has tendency to break down crying almost every episode.
  • Properly Paranoid: Given she's one of the physically weaker members of the tribe, she was correct to be paranoid that Lyrsa leaving could mean she's next on the chopping block. She quickly gets Christian and Nick on board to eliminate Jessica instead.
  • The Scapegoat: Despite Jessica's blindside being caused by Elizabeth and Lyrsa, Gabby is the one who was blamed by the tribe.
  • The Smart Guy
  • The Quiet One: Gabby's been described as very quiet and reserved in pre-game press. It's deconstructed in Episode 4 as she laments to Christian how she's too quiet to bond with the Goliath members.

     Carl James Boudreaux
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/carl_boudreaux.PNG

Tribe: David → Exile → Vuku → Kalokalo
Age: 41
From: Beaumont, Texas
Occupation: Truck Driver

  • Arch-Enemy: He tends to clash with Elizabeth on both a strategic and personal level.
  • Advantage Ball: During his time in exile, Carl found a brand new advantage called the idol nullifier, allowing him to nullify anybody's hidden immunity idol from play. He would effectively use it on Dan successfully come Episode 9.
  • Bald of Authority: He was the leader of the Davids, and he is bald.
  • Defied Trope: He outright defies the Invincible Villain trope on Dan by playing an idol nullifier on Dan in Episode 9. This causes Dan to get voted even after he played his idol.
  • Drunk with Power: It was stated in-universe that he was this, both figuratively and literally, after Dan's blindside.
  • Family Man
  • Happily Married: His personal claim to fame is that he's maintained a happy marriage for twelve years.
  • The Leader: Carl is the leader of the David tribe, even at the beginning of the season.
  • Out of Focus: Of all the men on the season, he's the one who has had the least screentime.
  • Real Men Love Jesus: Two of the items he'd bring to the island are a prayer card and a pocket bible.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Carl cursed up a storm in his First One Out interview with Josh Wigler.
  • Team Dad: For the Davids, most notably with Jessica in the first episode.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Wound up getting Elizabeth voted out of the game by getting drunk and complaining about her to the Goliaths, giving them an easy target for the first boot.

     Alec M. Merlino
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alec_merlino_3.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Vuku → Kalokalo
Age: 24
From: San Clemente, California
Occupation: Bartender

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Alec may have been a treacherous schemer, but his last few days in the game are heartbreaking. Upon realizing that the Davids are targeting him for elimination, he fights as hard as he can in the Individual Immunity challenge that will decide his fate. Despite hanging in for over five hours, he's unable to beat Christian. He attempts to form a counter-alliance to take out Carl, but even he knows that it will never work. In the end, all of the Goliaths turn on him and he goes home unanimously.
  • Ascended Fan
  • The Charmer: Fancies himself as one of these and cites it as the biggest reason he'll win. Probst tags him as this as well.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: On the surface, Alec comes across as a doofy surfer dude, but he's actually surprisingly cunning and insightful.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Was genuinely caught off-guard when Davie pulled out an idol and played it for Christian, especially since earlier in the episode he laughed at the idea that Davie could pull off a comeback.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He didn't appreciate the way Natalia threatened Davie, and even outright called it bullying. This was one of the factors that caused him to vote Natalia out.
  • Foil: To Angelina. Both of them are players willing to make big moves and use under-the-radar tactics, such as secretly going to the David's with information. However, Alec is genuinely trying to work with the Davids and his visits have been kept quiet, where as Angelina did it on an impulse after not getting what she wanted, which lead to her conversation with Elizabeth getting outed.
  • The Mole: For the David's, as Alec has repeatedly told them vital information while remaining under the Goliath's radar.
  • Mr. Fanservice
  • Psychotic Smirk: Alec has one plastered on his face when Natalia realizes he voted her out.
  • The Starscream: Towards the other Goliaths. While the others are pursuing a unified Goliath front, Alec simply wants to assume control of the game by building a secret counter alliance that will strike once it holds the majority. Despite the fact he did vote with the Goliaths, his information on Angelina and the other Goliaths attempting to blindside Christian was a vital clue in getting John out.
  • Surfer Dude: As a montage in First One Out shows, almost everyone has Alec pegged as this.
  • Unperson: Did not appear in the reunion as he broke his non-disclosure agreement by posting a picture with Kara months before the show aired.
  • Verbal Tic: "Bro" and "Dude" are staples.

     James Daniel "Dan" Rengering
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dan_rengering.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Tiva → Kalokalo
Age: 27
From: Lake Butler, Florida
Occupation: S.W.A.T. Officer

  • Ascended Fan
  • Butt-Monkey: Both of the idols he played did not go well for him. During the first time he played an idol, he ended playing it on somebody who he doesn't trust and wouldn't have been voted out even if Dan didn't play that idol for her. The second time he played an idol, it got nullified, and he got voted out. Even more so, given how Jeff Probst confirmed that the idol nullifier only blocks only one idol and not two idols meaning that if he hadn't misplay his first idol, he wouldn't have been voted out at the final eleven.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: His attraction towards Kara is becoming very apparent, and becoming a detriment as people see him as the love struck one, while Kara is deemed a threat.
  • Family Man
  • Formerly Fat: This is the main reason Jeff called him a "Goliath in bloom." Dan's physical transformation was the first step to getting where he is today.
  • Genius Bruiser: Making S.W.A.T. at 27 is nothing to sniff at and he was able to find two idols...
  • Idiot Ball: ... that being said, leaving his first idol in his pocket where anyone could find it wasn't exactly a smart idea.
  • Invincible Villain: Subverted. While he could have been this trope thanks to the idols he found in the game that could make him too powerful for him to be voted out much like Ben Driebergen, Wendell Holland, or Domenick Abbate, Carl ended up defying that trope thanks to his idol nullifier, causing Dan to be voted out despite him playing an idol on himself.
  • Manchild
  • Keet: Described in the pre-game by others as energetic and excitable.
  • Mr. Fanservice: He's not called "Hot Cop" for nothing.
  • Nerds Are Sexy: Castaways have mentioned that he wore a lot of superhero shirts, backpacks, etc., and read comic books at pre-game Ponderosa.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: When he gets really mad, like in episode 7, a distinct Southern drawl shows up in his voice that normally isn't anywhere to be found.
  • Ship Tease: With Kara in the first episode.
  • Took A Level In Jerk Ass: Postmerge

     John Randall Hennigan
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/john_hennigan.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Tiva → Kalokalo
Age: 38
From: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Professional Wrestler

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: The three personal items he'd bring are "three ab-wheels...in case the first two break."
  • The Big Guy: Being a professional wrestler, it's not surprising.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Of all the Goliath members, he looked to be the one who would play the gimmick of the season to the hilt; in the preseason, he was calling himself "Johnny Goliath". Ultimately subverted, as John didn't do anything remotely villainous during his time on the show.
  • Foil: To Austin Mattelson on Big Brother 17. Both are Heel wrestlers, both are smarter than they look, both end up befriending the token geek of the season and both are blindsided by said geek. However, while Austin's friendship was more gameplay, John legitimately likes Christian and even allows him to be the comptroller of Slam Town.
  • Gentle Giant: He's a professional wrestler that is also a Nice Guy.
  • Genius Bruiser: Not in any actions from him, per se, but many of his fellow castaways have noticed an air of calculated-ness and intelligence in his pre-game demeanor. In the game, too, he was shown to be a solid hand at the social politics of the game, having in-roads with everyone. It was this that probably led to his blindside.
  • Graceful Loser: One of the classiest losers in recent memory. After realizing he's voted out, he laughs and congratulates the Davids for outwitting him and the Goliaths. When Christian asks if he can still be the Comptroller of Slamtown, he smiles and says "You're in, brother!"
    • Even during his final words, he makes fun of himself for predicting a "Brochacho Blindside" and being the one actually blindsided.
  • I Have Many Names: John Morrison, Johnny Mundo, Johnny Nitro, Johnny Impact, and this is just to mention his ring names. Taken up to eleven when he gets a confessional in episode one that's mostly him just listing these nicknames off.
  • Irony: Predicted a ""Brochacho Blindside" and ended up being the brochacho blindsided.
  • Red Baron: "The Mayor of Slamtown," "The Shaman of Sexy," "The Guru of Greatness"...
  • Mr. Fanservice
  • Nice Guy: When he isn't putting on any wrestling personas, he is this. This continued all the way through his exit, where even after being blindsided, he was a great sport about it.
  • The Nicknamer: To him, Christian is "Sudoku Sam," Lyrsa is "Unicorn Fairy," etc.
  • Odd Friendship: With both Natalie and Christian. Natalie was probably because she gets under people's skin, and therefore would make a good sacrificial lamb for the Goliaths, and Christian because he genuinely wants to bond with his tribe.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this reaction having seen several votes nullified for both Angelina and Christian and then his name comes up.
  • Only Friend: Bizarrely, he seems to be the only one on his tribe who genuinely enjoys Natalie's company.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Despite being the leader of the Goliaths, he is easily one of the least villainous of them. Despite being a Heel wrestler, he's extremely kind and a Graceful Loser to boot.
  • Shoot the Dog: Implied in a preview of Episode 8 that he would perform a "Brochacho Blindside". Ironically and lampshaded by him it was him who got blindsided.

     Elizabeth Olsen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elizabeth_olson.PNG

Tribe: David → Vuku → Kalokalo
Age: 31
From: Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
Occupation: Kitchen Staff

  • Arch-Enemy: She and Carl clash on both a strategic and personal level.
  • Ascended Fan
  • Berserk Button: In her own words, lazy people and stupid people.
  • Defiant to the End: Despite knowing she was going to be voted out, Elizabeth spent her last moments in the game ensuring that Angelina wouldn't be able to reap the benefits of a Goliath-David pagonging.
  • Dying Moment of Awesome: Just before tribal, Angelina approaches Elizabeth and informs her she is the target of the vote. Realizing she was buttering her up for a jury vote, Elizabeth decided to publicly expose Angelina at Tribal Council, sinking her game and ensuring that no one in the game will trust her, before being unanimously voted out.
  • Flipping the Bird: Can be seen doing this in a cast photo, which an intern apparently didn't catch.
  • If Only You Knew: Elizabeth told Davie that she believes that she knows where the Vuku idol is at. In actuality, Davie has that idol.
  • Odd Friendship: With Lyrsa
  • Sacrificial Lamb: At the merge, the there are alliances between Davids and Goliaths due to the switches, but the Goliaths want a David to go first. Due to Elizabeth having fewer close allies, the Davids agree to vote her out in order to further their own game.
  • Undying Loyalty: Which saved Lyrsa from elimination in episode 2.

Voted Out

     Lyrsa Maria Torres

Tribe: David → Jabeni
Age: 36
From: Puerto Rico
Occupation: Airline Agent

     Natalie Norwood Cole
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natalie_cole_7.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Jabeni
Age: 56
From: Los Angeles, California
Occupation: Publishing CEO

  • Alas, Poor Villain: While calling Natalie a villain might be a stretch, it was clear her tribe did feel sympathetic to her after all the awful things Jeremy had said to her, especially regarding the funeral comment.
  • Ascended Fan
  • Disc-One Final Boss: She was set-up to have an antagonistic role throughout her time on the show only for her to be voted out in Episode 5.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Jerkass she might be, but considering she does seem to like her tribe and believes they like her back, it might her just being unaware of how she comes off to others.
  • Irony: Jeremy criticizes her for not being self-aware and Natalia criticizes her for being too bossy. During the boot episodes for those two, they got voted out for those exact reasons as Jeremy blew-up his own game and Alec turned on Natalia due to her bossy behavior.
  • Jerkass: She's obnoxious, bossy, and rude, and most of her tribe can't stand her. This caused her to be voted out in episode 5.
  • Kick the Dog: Threatened to send Nick and Lyrsa home if they didn't give her their jackets. She also coldly denied Angelina her jacket, despite the fact Angelina had been the one to protect and defend her since the beginning.
  • No Social Skills: To the point where Jeremy tries to make Natalie work on that only for his attempts to fail and he walked away from that conversation wanting to vote her out.
  • Never a Self-Made Woman: Strongly averted. Natalie worked at the LA Times for 20 years before founding her own small newspaper. She's now a major player in the publishing scene.
  • Pet the Dog: Though she was angry while voting him out, Natalie still paid Jeremy a small compliment for how well cared for his skin was. And considering she has a small business in skincare, while also being a publishing CEO, it probably was a genuine compliment.
  • Rags to Riches
  • Smug Snake: Despite being wildly disliked, she's convinced that the tribe respects her and that she's somehow smarter than everyone else.
  • Team Mom: Averted as well. Jeff describes Natalie as a take-no-nonsense woman and cites it as the biggest reason she could go early.
  • Thrill Seeker: Says in her bio that she loves to do over-the-top, challenging things.

     Natalia Azoqa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/natalia_azoqa.PNG

Tribe: Goliath → Vuku
Age: 25
From: Irvine, California
Occupation: Industrial Engineer

  • Ascended Fan
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite disliking Natalie to the point of wanting her out, even she didn't want Jeremy to stay after his controlling and cruel behavior.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Before the vote, she stated that if she went home tonight, she would be happy because she was proud of the game she played. However, the minute she is voted out, she's absolutely livid and tears into Alec (and Kara for a bit), getting frustrated when she tries to set her torch for Jeff to snuff and even kicking a rock on the way out.
    • She criticizes Natalie for being bossy in which having a bossy behavior was one of the reasons why Natalia got voted out of the game.
  • Immigrant Parents: Her father came to the United States from Jordan when he was a teenager.
  • Jerkass: She tries to bully Davie, and she acted like a Sore Loser when she left the game.
  • Ms. Fanservice
  • Oral Fixation: Played with a bit. She mentions teeth a lot in her cast bio.
  • The Paranoiac: Her paranoia towards Kara and Elizabeth's budding friendship and panicking threats towards people who don't vote her way ended up backfiring on her, as Alec grew sick of her bullying and wanted to make a move, and decided to help Elizabeth and Davie by eliminating her.
  • Sore Loser: She's in a state as she leaves the game. Her final words are her wishing for violence upon Alec.
  • Token Minority: In a sense, as she's one of the few contestants of Arabic descent. She is also only the second Muslim contestant in Survivor history.

     Bi Dieu Nguyen note
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bi_nguyen.PNG

Tribe: David
Age: 28
From: Houston, Texas
Occupation: MMA Fighter

  • Action Girl
  • Amazonian Beauty: She's an MMA fighter, and an attractive woman.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: Bi might be a tough MMA fighter, but she shows her soft side by comforting Jessica after her emotional breakdown and reveal of her difficult past by talking about her own, and then telling Jessica she's a hero for helping her mother.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Bi survived an abusive relationship when she was younger.
  • Determinator: The main reason she's on the David tribe, despite her occupation, is her upbringing. She grew up in rural Vietnam and ran away from home at fourteen, overcoming much adversity.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: Owing to a knee injury suffered in the previous episode's immunity challenge, Bi made the decision to remove herself from the game in episode four. This injury reflected a previous injury from mixed martial arts when Bi was hurt in a bout and it tore her MCL, and she was worried this second affliction to her body would make it worse. She discussed it prior to the episode when she decided to quit the game, evidently in a lot of pain.
  • Genius Bruiser: Paints herself as this in her cast bio.
  • The Heart: She's usually the one who encourages the tribe and most of the tribemates tend to discuss their personal issues with her.

     Jeremy Scott Crawford
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeremy_crawford.PNG

Tribe: Goliath
Age: 40
From: Clover, South Carolina
Occupation: Attorney

  • Ascended Fan
  • Control Freak: What sunk his game was his desire to control the flow of conversation in the tribe, to the point that he tried to ban side conversations.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Implied. He mentions in his interview with Josh Wiggler that he's thinking about leaving the legal practice, and that he doesn't know what he'll do if he does.
  • Hypocrite: He tried to ban any ban side conversations even though he himself has participated in side conversations himself.
  • Jerkass: Post-elimination interviews have him slandering Angelina, claiming that she was cheating on her husband with John Hennigan on the island. His former tribe mates had called him out for it on social media.
  • Kick the Dog: Although Natalie had rubbed the tribe the wrong way, Jeremy's comment at tribal council about how no one in their tribe would show up to Natalie's funeral if she died right now was absolutely uncalled for. Even his tribe mates looked visibly uncomfortable by it.
  • Mr. Fanservice
  • Older Than They Look
  • Sanity Slippage: Slipped into paranoia in the third episode and managed to turn his entire tribe against him by becoming increasingly controlling and aggressive.
  • Small Town Boredom: One of the many reasons he moved out at a fairly young age.
  • The Smart Guy: Passed the bar in three different states on his first try.
  • Straight Gay
  • Unperson: Like with Alec, Jeremy did not appear in the reunion and was not mentioned by the cast. Like Vytas Baskauskas beforehand, this is because of how he left Ponderosa before the season wrapped up.

     Jessica Lynn Peet
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jessica_peet.PNG

Tribe: David
Age: 19
From: Lakeland, Florida
Occupation: Waitress

  • Alpha Bitch: Downplayed, but still there. Her dismissive and arrogant attitude towards Gabby was what prompted her to help Lyrsa and Elizabeth, and ultimately became her undoing.
  • Ascended Fan: Her biggest inspiration is Stephenie LaGrossa, whose first season aired when Jessica was 6.
  • Coming of Age Story: She was 19. Her coming-of-age story was cut short, but she still got a minor one.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her mother was in an abusive relationship when Jessica was younger, which forced Jessica into the role of maturity and caused her to repress her own problems.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Her elimination, as she didn't even bother bringing her bags because she thought Lyrsa was unanimously leaving.
  • Hidden Depths: Hopes to weaponize her looks to make people overlook her.
  • Kid Hero
  • Older Than They Look: Much like Michael Yerger, Jessica plans to utilize this and lie about her age.

     Patrick M. "Pat" Cusack note
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pat_cusack.PNG

Tribe: David
Age: 40
From: Cohoes, New York
Occupation: Maintenance Manager

  • Ascended Fan: Pat applied for every season except the first.
  • The Big Guy
  • Dark and Troubled Past: He had no father figure as a child and had to take care of his disabled mother, living from paycheck to paycheck.
  • Determinator: Pat's worked every day of his life to get to where he is. Jeff Probst has even said that Pat's story is what inspired him to make the theme of the season what it is.
  • Family Man
  • Game-Breaking Injury: On the way back from the first immunity challenge, Pat severely injured his back when a wave rocked the David boat, and he had to be evacuated.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: The truest example thus far, as Pat's game literally came to end because of a freak injury that had nothing to do with playing Survivor.
  • Sacrificial Lion
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Averted entirely. First boots often receive little exposure if they have little impact on the game. Because of the shocking nature of Pat's removal from the game and his lively personality, he got a lot of screentime.
