Sofia's friends

    Ruby and Jade
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d_qbjig0fic.jpg
Ruby (left) and Jade (right).
Voiced by: Fiona Bishop (Ruby, Once Upon a Princess), Diamond White (main series) (Ruby) ; Isabella Acres (Jade)

Two village girls who were Sofia's best friends back before she became a princess. While she doesn't see as much of them after moving into the castle, they're still great friends.

  • Character Development: Jade had a hateful temper in Seasons 1 and 2, and she didn't think at all about Sofia's feelings. Upon returning in "Princess Jade", she shows that she's abandoned her temper and started being more thoughtful of Sofia, worried about hurting her feelings about not wanting to attend Royal Prep.
  • A Day in the Limelight: "In a Tizzy" is one for Ruby, focusing on her dream of winning the Dunwiddie Pedal-Power Race. Jade also gets one in "Princess Jade", which focuses on her discovering she might be the descendant of a princess, forcing her to choose between joining Sofia in Royal Prep or staying in Dunwiddie with her friends.
  • Easily Forgiven: Played straight for Ruby, who is always willing to forgive wrongdoing, even without a particularly sincere apology. Jade, on the other hand, averts this, and her tendency to hold grudges has come up several times.
  • Genki Girl: Ruby, though Jade has her moments too.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Jade; while she has a love for girly decor and fancy clothing, she's still a Buttercup scout and even raced in Royal Prep's Flying Derby during School Swap Day.
  • Motor Mouth: Ruby's a chatterer who will go on at length about nothing in particular.
  • No Full Name Given: Jade's surname is unknown throughout the entire series. Ruby's is given to be 'Hanshaw'.
  • Out of Focus: With the show becoming more story-driven, Ruby and Jade were absent for the whole third season; their latest appearance before Season 3 was Season 2's "Buttercup Amber". Fortunately, they returned in Season 4.
  • She Is the King: Discussed. In "Princess Jade", Jade briefly play-acts as "Prince Jade the Brave" and mimes killing a dragon in the persona.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Jade looks exactly like her great-great-aunt Frederika.
  • Those Two Girls: For Sofia.
  • Token Trio: They form one with Sofia; Ruby is Black, Jade is Asian and Sofia is half-Hispanic.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Ruby is the tomboy to Jade's girly girl. In the go-carriage race, Ruby is a big fan and didn't mind getting dirty when fixing up her carriage. While Jade did participate, she decorated her go-carriage with bows and other girly sequins and was more interested in decorating her go-carriage than winning the race.

    Lucinda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucinda01.png
Voiced by: Merit Leighton

A young witch, about Sofia's age, who comes from a long line of Wicked Witches but turns good after Sofia befriends her.

  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Among her witch friends. She's the Brunette to Lily's Blonde and Indigo's Redhead.
  • Bully Turned Buddy: The other children in Dunwiddie become much friendlier to her once she apologizes and undoes her hexes.
  • Cute Witch: She's a little kid, so this is a given.
  • Defector from Decadence: Mainly due to I Just Want to Have Friends.
  • Disappeared Dad: In her debut, Lucinda says that her parents are witches. However, her father never made an appearance onscreen.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Lucinda first hides her newfound goodness from her mother but eventually "comes out of the closet" about it. Said mother at first refuses to believe her daughter is "good" but eventually accepts it, thinking that it's just a phase.
  • Friendless Background: Since her entire family consisted of wicked witches historically, Lucinda was raised to be one as well, and her hex-based bullying only drives the village children away from her.
  • Have You Tried Not Being a Monster?: In this case, being a good witch. Subject to this from her mother.
  • Heel–Face Turn: In her debut episode. She starts out as a bit of a jerkass but soon proves to be more lonely and socially-awkward than straight-up evil; she behaves badly because that's all she knows how to do.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Lucinda looks a lot like her voice actress minus the hair color.
  • Nice Girl: After becoming Sofia's friend, she's become more selfless and willing to help others.
  • No Social Skills: Being raised to be a wicked witch who hexes others relentlessly, Lucinda starts out as this in her debut appearance. As Sofia proves, all Lucinda needs is much encouragement and patience for her to come out of her shell.

Royal Preparatory Academy and others

Faculty

    Headmistresses Flora, Fauna and Merriweather
Voiced by: Barbara Dirickson (Flora), Russi Taylor (Fauna), Tress MacNeille (Merriweather)

The three fairy Headmistresses of Royal Prep, the very same from Sleeping Beauty. For more information about them, see the original film's character sheet.

    Miss Nettle
See her entry on the Sofia the First - Villains character page.

    Miss Elodie
Voiced by: Tania Gunadi

Royal Prep's performing arts teacher.

  • Genki Girl: She's a young woman with a lot of energy, fitting for a kids' drama teacher.
  • Large Ham: She tends to be very flamboyant and expressive in her fashion and mannerisms.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She's nothing less than encouraging towards anyone who decides to take part in the arts, whether they be a performer or a stage hand, but she does put her foot down when Cedric gets ahead of himself in handling stage effects with James (i.e. nearly destroy her whole stage with a magically conjured jungle). She advises him to bring out the best with the effects she asked for, rather than add anything purely for the sake of excess.

Students

    Princess Hildegard and Princess Clio
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tumblr_inline_ns9pgo37iu1trvhg2_540.png
Clio (left) and Hildegard (right).
Voiced by: Coco Grayson (Hildegard), Harley Graham (Clio), Jenna Lea Rosen (singing voice for both)

Amber's two closest friends, and the most popular students at Royal Prep.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Hildegard is sometimes called "Hildy".
  • Alpha Bitch: Hildegard.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Clio is from the kingdom of Corinthia, which in real life, is a region in Greece. Her skin is darker than light-skinned characters, and Clio is a Greek name.
  • Blatant Lies: When Sofia, Amber and Zooey ride flying horses to chase Zooey's baloon and rescue it, Hildegard says they can't do it. When they triumph, she says she always knew they could do it.
  • Break the Haughty: Hildegard goes through this in "The Princess Stays In The Picture", where she is forced to admit she doesn't know everything.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Hildegard gets one in "The Princess Stays In The Picture" and "The Lost Pyramid" while Clio has one in "Sidekick Clio."
  • Deadpan Snarker: Hildegard. In "Scrambled Pets", she snarks excessively about the mess that Sofia, James, Amber, and Vivian caused with their pets and about how much trouble they'll get in - and she's not wrong, either.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture:
    • Clio's kingdom, Corinthia, seems to be based on Greece or at least the Greek region with the same name.
    • Hildegard's kingdom, Freezenberg, is based on the region of Scandinavia. Interestingly, there's a town named Frezenberg in Belgium, which is not a Scandinavian country.
  • Freudian Excuse: Hildegard acts like a know-it-all because she embarrassed herself on the first day of school by trying a dance she didn't know. From then on, she felt like she had to act like she knew everything in order to be accepted.
  • Hidden Depths: Hildegard shows insecurities in several episodes, while Clio shows a love (and talent) of musical theatre in "Sidekick Clio."
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Hildegard is revealed to have done this in "The Princess Stays In The Picture" — on her first day at Royal Prep, she was having trouble making friends. She tried twirling like her big sister, but she didn't know and slipped up, causing everyone to laugh at her. Since that day, she acted like she knew everything, even if she didn't.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Hildegard starts the conflict of "Dad and Daughters Day" by pointing out that Roland is not Sofia's "real father". When told how hurtful that statement was, she tells Sofia to just forget she said anything.
  • In-Series Nickname: Hildegard is often called Hildy by her friends.
  • It's All About Me: Prior to "Sidekick Clio", Hildegard always made Clio everything the former wanted and refused to let the latter do anything she wanted. Hildegard also forced Clio to choose between her and doing what she wants, threatening to stop being friends with her she made the latter choice. Sadly, this actually happened, but Amber helped Hildegard realize that she wasn't being a good friend to Clio.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Hildegard may be a brownnoser, but she does care for her friends, especially Amber, as shown in "Princess Jade".
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Hildegard.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Like Amber, both Hildegard and Clio, despite of their snootiness, pride, and vanity, are indeed nice girls at heart.
  • Missing Mom: Hildegard’s mother, the Queen of Freezenburg, is never shown nor mentioned.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: In "The Lost Pyramid", Hildegard expresses deep remorse over her actions nearly getting her and her friends permanently captured by a Sphinx.
  • Nice Girl: While Clio is nowhere near Sofia's level of kindness, she's also clearly the nicest out of the most popular princess group (Amber, Hildegard, and herself).
  • Not So Above It All: The normally smug and self-confident Hildegard starts to doubt herself after making a mistake during "The Princess Test," refusing to take the rest of the test for fear of making more mistakes.
  • Sidekick: Clio usually goes along with whatever Hildegard does. "Sidekick Clio" revolves around Clio breaking out of this, and doing things that she wants to do.
  • Spoiled Brat: Hildegard's father is pathetically shameless in how he spoils his daughter. At the end of "Dads and Daughters Day", he finally learns to say "no" to her demands.
  • Those Two Girls: For Amber before "The Princess Stays in the Picture" and "Sidekick Clio," where each girl received Character Development.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While she still has her moments of jerk behaviour and selfishness after "The Princess Stays in the Picture" and "Sidekick Clio," Hildegard is much kinder and friendlier towards others, especially Sofia.

    Prince Zandar
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prince_zandar_4.png
Voiced by: Maxim Knight (Once Upon a Princess), Karan Brar (Seasons 1 and 2), Nathaniel Semsen (Season 3 onwards)

The prince from the desert kingdom of Tangu who is close friends with James.

  • Determinator: According to him, he doesn't stop trying because "in Tangu, there is no such thing as giving up."
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: He and his kingdom are loosely based on the Middle East, going by his Arabian-style robes and the presence of camels, Indian elephants, and flying carpets in the desert kingdom.

    Princess Vivian
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sofia_the_first_s02e06_1.JPG

A meek and timid princess from Zumaria, whom Sofia became friends with in "The Shy Princess."

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: The episode "Princess Prodigy" has Baron Von Rocha purposefully stroke her ego in order to steal the musical magic from her mandolin, causing her to act narcissistic and mean to her friends. She gets better.
  • Character Development: She becomes a little more outgoing and confident in later episodes.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Zumaria might be a reference to a town named Zumaia in Basque (in Spain).
  • Fluffy Tamer: Downplayed. Her pet dragon Crackle is practically a puppy dog in terms of size and personality, but she is also a highly prized and potentially dangerous creature.
  • Friendless Background: Due to being so shy.
  • Hidden Depths: She is a skilled musician, able to play many instruments, though her favorite is the mandolin.
    • She also likes enchanted flowers, as revealed in "All the Sprite Moves."
  • Hime Cut: Amusingly enough, the only featured princess to wear her hair this way.
  • Magic Music: In addition to being a bit of a musical savant, she learns how to utilize magical music for combat purposes.
  • Nice Girl: Sweet, friendly, kind, and gentle.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Averted. Unlike most of her fellow princesses, her gown is less flashy and more practical.
  • Shrinking Violet: Vivian is a shy girl who has trouble talking to other people, and as a result had no friends until she "talked" through music.
  • True Companions: Sofia is her best friend, and she in turn is probably Sofia's closest friend at Royal Prep next to her step-siblings.

    Prince Khalid
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prince_khalid.png
Voiced by: Khamani Griffin (season 1), Jaden Betts (season 3)

The prince of Khaldoun.

    Princess Maya
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_maya.png
Voiced by: Olivia Grace

The princess of Khaldoun.

  • Huge Schoolgirl: Maya is one of the tallest female students in Royal Prep and taller than many of the male students.
  • Odd Friendship: The outgoing Maya is shown to be quite good friends with the more reserved Princess Jun.
  • Tomboy Princess: Maya qualifies even more than the other princesses, like Sofia. Maya does show herself to be quite good at sports, enjoying the games during the picnic, being part of the Royal Redhawks. She was also notably the only princess who wore a suit instead of a dress during the enchanted dancing performance.

    Princess Jun
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_jun.jpeg
Voiced by: Michaela Zee

The princess of Wei-Ling.

  • Odd Friendship: The reserved Jun is shown to be quite good friends with the more outgoing Princess Maya.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: While Jun dresses in more feminine clothing, is quite reserved and proper and likes using her fan. She does also show an interest in sports, like the picnic games and plays on the Royal Redhawks.
  • Temporary Blindness: Jun is blinded by Amber's headband during the dazzle ball game, and as a result, the Dunwitty Ducks score. This causes the entire team to get rid of the headbands.

    Prince Hugo
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prince_hugo.png
Voiced by: Colin Ford (Season 1), Grayson Hunter Goss (Seasons 2 and 3), Aaron Daniel Jacob (singing voice)

A young prince on the Flying Derby team of Royal Prep. In "Just One Of The Princes", he put Sofia down for trying to join the derby team and compete in a "princely" sport and even played dirty in an attempt to keep her from beating him. When he reappeared in "The Flying Crown", he and Sofia became teammates for the Flying Crown and Hugo became Sofia's friend. He later came to better understand Sofia in "Lord Of The Rink" when he, ironically, took a liking to figure skating even though it was considered a "princess" sport.

  • Affectionate Nickname: His big brother, Axel, almost always refers to him as "Baby bro" while their father, King Garrick, calls him "Champ".
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Downplayed. Axel doesn't seem to find Hugo this way, but the former sounded annoyed when he asked the latter why he was in the fountain and told him to get ready for the championship race.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": He's so bad at faking sick that it's surprising how he was able to fool his friends easily.
  • Bully Turned Buddy; He starts off as a bully, and by the end of "The Flying Crown", he becomes friends with Sofia and everyone else at Royal Prep.
  • Character Development: Not only does he learn the importance of teamwork and being nice to your partner, but he goes from treating Sofia's desire to compete in a boy-oriented sport with scorn and ridicule to discovering that he likes participating in a more girl-oriented sport and that it's nothing to be ashamed of, making him an interesting case of a character who had a full arc across all of his appearances.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Doesn't return for the 4th season.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his own ego, he was not only visibly annoyed by Axel's constant boasting about his flying derby days at Royal Prep but also the Junior Knights thinking they're better than everyone.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: Subverted—his eyes are noticeably bigger than his brother's and father's, but they're the same color.
  • Foil: To Sofia. They each took a liking to an activity that was said to be for the opposite gender. Hugo was secretive about his love for Enchanted Ice Dancing out of fear of being made fun of by the other boys while Sofia was open about her love for flying derby and didn't care when others said it was for princes.
  • Friendless Background: His behavior prior to his Character Development made it hard for him to make friends. Only afterwards does he do so.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Was never a bad kid at heart, but acted like an arrogant hotshot in his effort to uphold his and his family's image.
  • Irony: In "The Flying Crown," he dismisses Sofia's success on the Flying Derby as luck, when Sofia tells him she trained hard. Compare this to "Lord of the Rink," where his skill at ice dancing shows he clearly studied it in private prior to the episode.
  • Jerk Jock: Prior to his Character Development.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Still pushy and stubborn, but gradually becomes nicer.
  • Jock Dad, Nerd Son: "Nerd" may not be the best word to describe him, but he doesn't enjoy participating in some of the sports his father forces him and his brother to do, such as ice hockey.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: In "The Flying Crown", he wanted to be the first to cross the finish line so badly that he insisted Sofia sling him despite knowing that she's smaller. Sofia was only strong enough to send him flying out of the saddle and all over the race course.
  • Lovable Jock: Became this after learning what it means to be a good sport.
  • Missing Mom: His and Axel's mother is neither mentioned nor seen.
  • Positive Friend Influence: While Sofia helped him more, he also refuses to give up on her until she mastered ice dancing.
  • The Rival: To Sofia in his debut appearance.
  • Royal Brat: Starts as this but mellows out eventually.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Zigzagged with Axel, who's heavily implied to handle the pressure of living up to their family's legacy better than Hugo.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Downplayed. He looks like a younger version of Axel but with bigger eyes and dark brown hair.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: He lived in the shadow of his older brother when it came to victories in sport events. Subverted when he wins the Flying Crown, an accomplishment nobody else in the family has pulled off.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: He's the only male on the show with noticeable eyelashes, something that the girls on the show have.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: While he never lost his competitive streak, he's proven in "Lord of the Rink" to be a very kind-hearted person.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Sofia as shown "Lord of the Rink". Not only was he quick to race to her rescue, but he refused to give up on her or let her give up.
  • Unmanly Secret: He was secretive about his love for ice dancing out of fear of being made fun of by the other boys, and fully expected them to do so when caught. Fortunately, they don't.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: "Lord of the Rink" shows how desperate he is for his father's approval.

    Prince Axel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prince_axel.png
Voiced by: Colin Ford

Prince Hugo's older brother, appearing in "The Flying Crown". Hugo was always in his shadow when it came to victories in sport events, and Axel often bullies him in trying to make sure he doesn't disappoint the family name.

  • A Day in the Limelight: His only active role was in "The Flying Crown". After that, he was never mentioned in the series, and he was only barely noticeable in the graduation scene in the series finale.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Inverted, as he's an annoying older sibling to Hugo, to whom he constantly boasts about his days as a start athlete at Royal Prep.
  • Big Brother Bully: Says incredibly emotionally abusive things to Hugo in order to make sure he doesn't forget his place, almost always claiming afterwards that he's "only kidding".
  • Big Brother Instinct: He does want Hugo to do what it takes to uphold their family's image, but the last thing he wants is for Hugo to hurt himself in the process as the look on his face implies when Hugo and Sofia try the flying slingshot.
  • Cool Big Bro: He sees himself this way, but he's really a caring big brother at heart aside from the way he picks on Hugo.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: He has the exact same eyes as his father.
  • Innocently Insensitive: He has an annoying habit of boasting about his days as a star athlete at Royal Prep and doesn't think about how it makes Hugo feel. He does try to console him but continues to boast about how great he was.
  • It's All About Me: When he has the chance to brag about what a great athlete he is, he just has to jump on it.
  • Jerk Jock: Presumably where Hugo got it from.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While he does say the most hurtful things he can think of to Hugo, he doesn't intend to hurt his feelings. He only bullies Hugo out of love.
  • Missing Mom: His and Hugo's mother is neither seen nor mentioned.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Zigzagged with Hugo, as he's implied to take the pressure of living up to their family's legacy better than his younger brother.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Downplayed. He looks like an older version of Hugo but with chestnut red hair and smaller eyes.

    Prince Desmond
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/prince_desmond.jpg
Voiced by: Maxim Knight (season 1), Joshua Carlon (seasons 2 & 3), Aden Schwartz (Season 4)

A smart yet timid prince who is a start student at Royal Prep. He's very smart, yet he has a few fears (okay, a lot of fears), but Sofia helps him get through what he's afraid of.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Both Sofia and James occasionally call him "Des."
  • Cowardly Lion: He spent most of "Make Way For Miss Nettle" terrified of the wicked fairy. But when she was about to trap his friends in bubbles, he tackled her, taking away her wand in the process.
  • Crazy-Prepared: In "Make Way for Miss Nettle", he brings a set of measuring spoons, even those that measure smidgeons, dashes, and pinches, to Miss Mettle's gardening class because he "likes being prepared".
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: In the Series Finale, he expresses fear of speaking on stage (which he "earned" for being the best student), even stating he would've failed more tests if it'd meant he had to do so. And yet later on, he joins Sofia and some of her peers in fending off Vor, and assists Cedric and many others in freeing Sofia from the Amulet of Avalor.
  • Green Thumb: He's rather practiced with enchanted gardening, but was confounded by mystery gardening because there was so little reference he could look up on the subject.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: As revealed in "The Royal School Fair," he secretly wants to be a knightly hero, but doesn't have the confidence to think he can pull it off.
  • The Reliable One: He's known as the smartest kid in Sofia's class, and the other children look to him for help with schoolwork.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The bookish Sensitive Guy to James' confident Manly Man.
  • Shrinking Violet: A rather shy and unassertive little boy.

    Princess Zooey
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_zooey.png
Voiced by: Fiona Bishop

A Tomboy Princess who's traveled the word and had many adventures before enrolling in Royal Prep. Debuting in "Scrambled Pets", she later had a larger role in "Princess Adventure Club" where she started an Adventure Club but refused to let Amber join because she'd been unintentionally rude to her in a conversation. She soon learned that it isn't nice to exclude others from activities based on a simple miscommunication.

    Prince Derek
Voiced by: Connor Wise
A young prince who goes to Royal Prep. He is usually a background character and played his first major role in "Lord of the Rink". He was against boys participating in Enchanted Ice Dancing, and when he learned of Hugo doing this, he said, "Are you ice-dancing?" loudly. Only after seeing Hugo perform with Sofia did Derek ask Hugo to teach him how to ice-dancing only to have more trouble than Sofia.

  • Chekhov's Gunman: He most made background appearances and had his first major role in "Lord of the Rink".
  • Jerkass: In "Lord of the Rink" when he obnoxiously asks Hugo if he's taking Enchanted Ice-Dancing and almost makes fun of him for it.
  • Pet the Dog: He does eventually accept Hugo's love for ice dancing.

    Princess Kari
Voiced by: Kiara Muhammad
A young princess who attends Royal Prep

  • Remember the New Girl?: Has attended Royal Prep longer than Sofia but doesn't even appear until the season 2 finale "Sidekick Clio", nor was she mentioned before.

Student Pets

    Crackle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cracklesofia.png
Voiced by: Ellie Kemper

Vivian's pet dragon who has an obsessive crush on Clover.

  • Cuddle Bug: She loves hugging any new friend she meets, to Clover's annoyance.
  • Friendless Background: It's implied that she scared away any potential friends by being overly friendly. She was overjoyed to see Clover again, saying "You're the only one who's ever come back." In "The Royal Dragon", it is revealed that Crackle has never even had a dragon friend before.
  • Genki Girl: In stark contrast to her owner, who is shy when Sofia first meets her, Crackle is an excitable dragon who likes tackle-hugging any new friend she meets, especially Clover.
  • Interspecies Romance: Heavily implied to have a crush on Clover.
  • Mundane Utility: She uses her fire to roast Clover's food for him.
  • Shoulder-Sized Dragon: She's bigger than Clover, yet she's small enough to be carried by a small child like Sofia.
  • Stalker with a Crush: When she first meets Clover in "The Shy Princess", she chases him around, desperately wanting to be his "friend", to his annoyance because he doesn't want to be burned by her.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Clover; She really let Sofia have it when she chose to take another bunny to the pet contest.
Crackle: You really hurt Clover's feelings. And when you hurt Clover's feelings, you hurt my feelings!

    Electra
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/electra_stf.jpg
Voiced by: Rose Abdoo

Prince Hugo's flying horse, whom he rode for the flying derby championships in "The Flying Crown". She told Sofia that Hugo had been refusing to work with her for the championships because he was feeling pressure from having to live up to his family's legacy and being frustrated at his failure to do so. She was also disappointed that Hugo quit at the last minute but was happy when he learned his lesson. Electra didn't warm up to Minimus until after the championships.

Other Residents of Enchancia

    Inventor Gwen

Inventor Gwen

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gwensofiathefirst.jpg
Voiced by: Ginnifer Goodwin

A palace kitchen maid with a knack for inventing. While initially discouraged by her father Chef André to pursue her dreams of becoming an inventor, she's encouraged by Sofia to not give up.

    Sir Dax

Sir Reginald Daxter "Dax" Sincliff IV

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sir_dax.png
Voiced by: Mick Wingert

Appearing in "The Ghostly Gala", he's the ghost of an old knight who haunted the castle in hopes of driving people out so that he could host a Ghostly Gala with his ghost friends, but Sofia's own Halloween party was in conflict with this.

  • Anti-Villain: All he wanted was to host a great party for his ghost friends. His antagonism towards Sofia was based on misunderstanding of each other's reasons for celebrating at the castle.

    Vaughan and Vance
Voiced by: Sage Ryan
Two squires from the Junior Knights Academy and Sofia and Hugo's new flying derby rivals. They make their debut in "The Flying Crown", boasting that they would win the Flying Crown like they do every year, annoying Hugo to the point where he and Vaughan challenge each other to a small race, which Vaughan wins and he rubs this in Hugo's face. Vaughan and Vance are shocked when Sofia outpaces them thanks to Hugo, and they wonder how she did that so easily.
  • Jerk Jock: Enjoy being better than everyone.
  • The Rival: To pretty much everyone.
  • The Voiceless: Vance never actually speaks. He is only heard laughing supportively at Vaughan's boasts, and making a sound of confusion when he and Vaughan are beaten.

    Carol of the Arrow
Voiced by: Vivica A. Fox

The leader of the Merry Band of Helping Hands, a group dedicated to helping the less fortunate. Carol was a teen that used her bow and arrow to help others after the Royal Family failed to help her cousin, Henry.

  • Jerkass Has a Point: She's of the opinion that the more fortunate are Idle Rich and have failed to help those of lesser statuses, so the only way things will get better is if the little guys watch out for themselves. Though the royal family try to avoid being this, there are other people of wealthy and noble statuses that Carol would stand against.
  • Jerkass Realization: She realizes that she was wrong about the royal family being jerks when she learns Sofia, who has been trying to do good deeds all day, is actually Princess Sofia herself. When she meets the royal family, she apologizes for what she had said about them and learns that they're the good type of royalty as everyone else had so claimed yet she ignored.
  • The Mentor: To her Merry Band, and briefly, Sofia.
  • Nice Girl: So long as you aren't of more fortunate statuses, like the royal family.
  • Shout-Out: She is based off of Robin Hood (which may also count as an example of Company Cross References, as Disney has adapted the tale as an animated film). She also thinks that the royal family is evil, which is not the case.
  • Stealth Pun: While her allusion to the tale of Robin Hood alone doesn't necessarily count as a reference to Disney's version, there's one possibly unintentional allusion to it; her voice actor's name is Vivica A. Fox.

    Jane
Voiced by: Liliana Mumy

Carol of the Arrow's second-in-command from "Carol of the Arrow". She was envious of Sofia and felt she threatened her position, so she tried to sabotage all of her efforts to do good deeds for Carol.

Outsiders

Merroway Cove

    Princess Oona
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mermaid_oona.png
Voiced by: Kiernan Shipka

A mermaid princess in Merroway Cove. She became fast friends with Sofia when the latter saved her from a fishing net. Oona is very loyal to Sofia, not only standing up for her but believing in her.

  • Actor Allusion: Not the first time Kiernan Shipka has voiced a young "princess" of an isolated group of special beings, has interacted with something off-limits against the wishes of her parents, and has a big sister (figure) associated with water named Cora… or, well, Korra…
  • Defiant Captive: When Cedric (disguised as a giant sea monster) captures her for her Mermaid Comb.
  • Disappeared Dad: There's no mention of her father.
  • Interspecies Friendship: Becomes fast friends with Sofia after the latter frees her from a net. Said act even leads to Sofia gaining the power to turn into a mermaid at will, which only deepens their connection and eventually leads to the merfolk of Merroway Cove to reveal themselves to the surface world.
  • Just a Kid: Often feels like she's being treated like a baby by her sister and mother.
  • Making a Splash: Her Mermaid Comb has the power to control the ocean waters, but she's not as adept with it as she'd like to be.
  • Secret-Keeper: Becomes the first character to learn of Sofia's amulet powers other than Clover and the animals.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tomboy to Cora's girly girl, being more rebellious than her.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Sofia in gratitude for her kindness.

  • Big Bad: She's the main antagonist of The Floating Palace.
  • Disappeared Dad: Her husband is never seen nor mentioned.
  • Fantastic Racism: She had a strong hatred of humans for always casting shadow over her kingdom.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The first villain to be even more serious than Cedric; culminates in her racism toward humans growing to max levels that she plots to sink the Floating Palace.
  • Knight Templar Parent: She's extremely protective of Oona, and goes as far as to cause a storm to sink the floating palace just to rescue her from Sofia's family, mistakenly believing that they kidnapped her when it was Cedric who did it instead.

    Sven

Voiced by: John Ross Bowie

Oona's seahorse friend.

  • Excellent Judge of Character: He says that seahorses are very good at reading people, which is why he isn't trusting of strangers. True to this, he takes one good look at Sofia to know that she's telling the truth about Oona being kidnapped by Cedric.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: He relates to Oona with not wanting to be babied by Cora because Sven himself as 12 sisters. This becomes a Brick Joke when he calls his large family over to help rescue Oona, saying that he'll invite his cousins to the search party later.

Brazendell

    Sir Jaxon

Voiced by: Blair Underwood

A knight from Brazendell and rival to Sir Oliver, appearing in "The Tale of the Noble Knight". When Jaxon learned that Sir Oliver had been framing the dragons in order to be First Knight of Brazendell, Jaxon went out of his way to stop Oliver and defend the dragons.

    Willawing
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/willawing_1.jpg
Voiced by: Monica Richardson

One of Sir Jaxon's dragon friends in Brazendell. In the episode "The Tale of the Noble Knight", Willawing and her dragon friends were provoked by Sir Oliver into starting fires all over the kingdom and framed for the incident. When Sofia and Minimus came to help stop them, they feared Willawing and the other dragons. Only after saving Jaxon did Sofia learn of Willawing's true colors and that Sir Oliver framed her and the other dragons for the fires.

  • Cuddle Bug: She is very affectionate towards Sofia, once picking her up and tickling her.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Her reaction to meeting Sofia for the first time is to pick her up and hug her because she finds Sofia adorable.

    Sir Oliver
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sir_oliver.png

A boorish, arrogant, and unscrupulous knight of Brazendell who presents himself as a noble hero but really just wants wealth and glory, and is willing to do anything to get it. Appearing in "Tale Of The Noble Knight", he competed against Sir Jaxon for the Ice Fire Shield and hoped to drive off the dragons that he'd provoked into setting fires to Brazendell in the first place. He returns in "The Royal Dragon", trying to disrupt a dragon gathering.

  • Bullying a Dragon: A quite literal example; In both his appearances, he sets out to antagonize the dragons, and is ultimately forced to flee when his efforts fail.
  • Dirty Coward: He's quick to taunt the dragons when he has the advantage (like when he wields the Ice Fire Shield, or has them trapped in a fireproof net), but will turn tail and run when the advantage is lost.
  • Evil Is Petty: In "The Royal Dragon", he sets out to ruin the dragons' picnic as petty Revenge.
  • Fatal Flaw: His ego. In his second appearance, Sofia is easily able to distract him by asking for his autograph.
  • Jerkass: Completely full of himself and patronizing to others.
  • Light Is Not Good: He has a yellow gold-colored suit of armor but is not a very good person.
  • Moral Myopia: He sees himself as a great and noble knight, in spite of his underhanded actions.
  • Narcissist: Constantly brags about himself. And when he sees a mirror, he can't resist flexing and admiring himself.
  • Never Learned to Read: Implied. He asked Sofia what the writing on the golden rock said while looking for the Ice Fire Shield.
  • Never My Fault: He blames the dragons for his banishment from Brazendell, despite the fact that he brought it on himself for trying to make them The Scapegoat.
  • Pet the Dog: The only one he shows any care towards is his horse, Basil. He even feeds him sugar cubes from time to time.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Very much so.
  • Villain Decay: In "The Royal Dragon", his first two attempts at disrupting the dragon picnic fail miserably. It takes a third attempt for him to actually do some damage. It seems that when stripped of his official knighthood and the kingdom's backing, it's much more apparent that he's nothing more than a petty bully.

Tangu

    Kazeem
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kazeem.png
Voiced by: Connor Wise

A fun-loving and well-meaning but overzealous young genie who doesn't like abiding by rules. Appeared in "New Genie On The Block".

  • For Happiness: He goes around granting others' wishes for the purpose of making them happy; unfortunately, he only takes their short-term happiness into account, and several of the wishes he grants end up causing problems in the long run.
  • Frame-Up: In "Pin the Blame on the Genie", he is framed for several magical incidents, making it seem like he had gone back to his old habits.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He reforms at the end of the episode.
  • Meaningful Name: For Cassim, the greedy and evil older brother of Ali Baba in Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, a story in the Arabian Nights, which also contains the story of Aladdin.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Sofia and Sergeant Fizz's attempts to apprehend him don't succeed, so Sofia persuades him to give up of his own accord by arranging for him to watch the city from a cloud and personally see the negative effects of the wishes he's granted.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He refuses to go back into his lamp and refuses to follow the genie rules because he really wants to make everyone else happy by granting their wishes.

Others

    King Garrick
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/king_garrick.png
Voiced by: Keith Ferguson

Father of Prince Hugo and Prince Axel, appearing in "Lord of the Rink". Garrick pushed his sons to be the best they could be, but only at the things he wanted to see them participate and excel in. He wasn't too understanding when he found out that Hugo enjoys Enchanted Ice-Dancing, but warmed up to the idea when he saw how talented his son was at it and how much it meant to him.

  • Character Development: Believed that men should only do rugged activities, but after seeing Hugo perform in an ice-dancing recital, he learned that what matters to him is seeing his son happy with what he's doing.
  • Doting Parent: He went out of his way to do what it takes to spend more time with Hugo.
  • Jock Dad, Nerd Son: He forced his sons to participate in rugged sports. It is unknown how this affected Axel, but Hugo sure didn't like having to play ice hockey when he wanted to ice-dance.
  • Parental Obliviousness: He couldn't tell by Hugo's facial expressions that his son was unhappy with being dragged to hockey practice.

    Prince Roderick

Voiced by: Cary Elwes

A snobbish and selfish prince from Borrea who captures horses so that he can mount them while going hunting. The unwitting antagonist of the first "Secret Library" episode.

  • Affably Evil: Barely even evil, actually, but very much affable.
  • Obliviously Evil: Has no understanding of what he's even doing wrong the entire time.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Is so self absorbed about his hobbies that he doesn't take the feelings of others or the ramification of his less than ethical actions into consideration.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He draws his sword against Sofia, and there's no indication that he doesn't intend to use it.

    Winter

A young faun who was given the ability to turn everything she touches into ice. On the previous Wassalia, Glacia the Ice Witch granted her wish for the ice touch as a part of a gift exchange. Minimus's older brother. He doesn't like life the way his brother and parents enjoy it, and one day, he left to find Wildwing Valley only to be captured by Prince Roderick of Borrea. When Sofia and Minimus came to save him, Minimus was angry with him for leaving him and their parents until they were both capture by Roderick and his stablemaster Gavin. Once hooked up to the prince's and stablemaster's horses, the horse brothers reconciled and were eventually saved by Sofia. In "Best in Air Show", Mazzimo left the valley to see his parents' stunt show and he and Sofia helped Minimus show Gemina and Argus what a great stunt horse he is.

  • Cool Big Bro: He encouraged Minimus to participate in stunt flying instead of telling him to obey their mother when she told Minimus not to.

    Princess Lei-Lani
Voiced by: Abigail Mavity

The princess of Hakalo.

  • Meaningful Name: Her name means "royal child" in Hawaiian.
  • Power of the Storm: She and her family can summon a storm over Hakalo by their emotions. As Lani is still young and inexperienced, she has trouble keeping her power under control.

    Princess Cassandra

Voiced by: Madison Pettis

A blind princess who also serves as an archaemagicalogist (someone who studies magical objects), as well as an author.

  • Deadpan Snarker: When Zooey points out that she never mentioned in her letters that she couldn't see, Cassandra remarks that Zooey never mentioned that she herself could.
  • Handicapped Badass: She may be blind, but she is extremely skilled when it comes to discoveries and reading hieroglyphics. She also seems to be perfect at writing, as she has written multiple books and letters to Zooey, and tutors the Princess Adventure Club on how they can use their other senses besides sight to guide themselves through.
  • Non-Human Sidekick: Her pet Sally guides her to make sure she doesn't bump into things.

The Mystic Isles

    Chrysta
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chrysta.png
Voiced by: Jurnee Smollett-Bell

A crystal fairy from the Mystic Isles. She is assigned to train Sofia to be the Protector of the Ever-Realm in "The Princess and the Protector".

  • Action Girl: One of the best Protectors of the Mystic Isles, with plenty of experience handling ferocious magical beasts.
  • Cool Teacher: What she ends up becoming by the end of her first appearance.
  • Cynical Mentor: She is not happy at the idea of teaching a "pampered princess" at first, and fully expects Sofia to fail, to the point where she barely teaches her anything at all (something Sofia eventually calls her out on). While she improves, she still retains this attitude.
  • Femininity Failure: Chrysta fails her first attempt at the Pixie Cup Test for being too rough-and-tumble and not delicate enough to even get past the first stage. She does much better in her second attempt in "Undercover Fairies" with Sofia's encouragement, being able to use a few Protector skills like Feather Walking to compensate.
  • Freudian Excuse: We get two episodes that show how she became the strict mentor that she is. In the Mystic Isles episode subtitled "A Very Mystic Wassailia", we see that she doesn't have a family to spend time with. In the episode subtitled "Undercover Fairies", we see that she was picked on as a kid for not acting like a traditionally dainty fairy.
  • Kicking Ass in All Her Finery: In the climax of "Undercover Fairies", Chrysta chases down the main antagonist while wearing a fancy dress and High-Class Gloves from her makeover earlier in the episode.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Can be described as this in her first three appearances, where she's a cynical, dismissive, and condescending mentor, but she just wants to protect others, and sees that Sofia can be a great Protector. With that said...
  • Nice Girl: She becomes this after the "Very Mystic Wassailia" episode, where she's much more open and caring to others, especially Sofia.
  • Stepford Smiler: She shows this in the "Mystic Wassailia" episode, where she hides the fact that she doesn't have a family through being cheerful.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: She is initially dismissive and condescending towards Sofia, believing that a princess can't cut it as a Protector. After Sofia proves herself, Chrysta starts treating her better.

    Skye
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/skye.jpg
Voiced by: Andrew Rannells

A Winged Unicorn who resides in the Mystic Isles. He assisted Sofia after she helped free him from a tree, and later became her official Protector steed.

  • Affectionate Nickname: He often calls Sofia "my princess".
  • Captain Crash: When he first appeared, he had only recently gotten his wings, and had yet to get the hang of them. He managed to master his flying abilities near the end of the Mystic Isles special. By "The Mystic Isles: A Very Mystic Wassailia," he has mastered flying.
  • The Rival: He was this to Minimus in "Mare of the Mist", as they both competed to be chosen by Sofia as her Protector steed.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: He tends to use old-fashioned words like "yon" and "hither" in his speech. However...
  • What the Hell Is That Accent?: Skye shuttles between a British accent and an American one, appearing to put on the former to sound fancy.

    Azurine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/azurine.png

A Crystalmaster debuting in "The Mystic Isles" and Prisma's sister. At a young age, Azurine was regarded as the greatest Crystalmaster ever seen, causing Prisma to envy her insanely. When Prisma tried to cover the Isles with crystals, Azurine tried to reason with her, but since Prisma refused to listen to reason, Azurine stripped her of her powers. When Sofia and Amber were trying to get to the Mystic Isles, they ran into Prisma, who claimed that Azurine was the evil Crystalmaster. On the Isle of Crystals, when Sofia gets caught in a plant as a crystal bird, Azurine comes to the rescue, which got Sofia to realize Prisma's deception. But Sofia was too late to stop Amber from giving Prisma her Terra Crystal, and when Prisma restored to her Crystalmaster form, she revealed that she lied about Azurine being the evil Crystalmaster.

  • All-Loving Hero: Depite her sister's misdeeds, Azurine still cares about her, and tries to get her to see the error of her ways.
