Main Cast

     Wake
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wakeneu.png
"Hi! Ich bin Wakeshimu Tanemaha Zinekinanamatittenepan!"
A pink-haired Genki Girl with huge anger issues.
  • Academic Alpha Bitch: She is a Grade A student and the Teacher's Pet at her school who treats her classmates poorly. Apart from that she is not a nice person.
  • Action Girl: She's not afraid to duke it out with bad guys.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: She might look like an inncent, absent-minded highschool-girl, but her body count is a thing to behold!
  • Big Eater: She utterly devours any food that she comes across.
  • Blood Knight: She suggests beating the crap out of random people as a pastime in the first episode.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Wake becomes this in Episode 13, when Kai joins the class and becomes Chao's girlfriend. This does not end well for her.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She's wrapped up in her own, perfect little world most of the time. Much to everyone elses despair.
  • Competition Freak: Is determined to be the best at everything. THE BEST!!
  • Cute But Psycho: Looks like a innocent schoolgirl, but is actually a violent lunatic. Chao once scolds her for having already killed three people that week. And it's Monday.
  • Death Glare: Throws quite the remarkable one at Kai in episodes 13 and 14.
  • Disappeared Dad: Wake's father was never mentioned, until the second movie establishes that he died shortly after Wake's birth due to diabetes.
  • Gamer Chick: With a preference for shooters.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: When Chao starts dating another girl in episode 13 Wake isn't too happy about it, to say the least.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Wake is revealed in the second movie to be 1/8 part Fishhead People from her father's side. Must be where she gets her powers from.
  • Murder the Hypotenuse: Kai.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Her full name is actually much longer; see Overly Long Name. But that's an earful, so she just goes by Wake.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: It's implied that meeting her Gender Flip counterpart "Wako" has moved her into leaving the other dimension.
  • Overly Long Name: Depending on the episode, it's either of these:
    • Wakeshimu Tanemaha Zinekinanamatittenepan
    • Wakeshimu Tanemahatsuana Ketchupketchup Tittenopan
    • Wakeshimu Tanemahatsuna Kitschtupanic Nisnanepan
  • Ship Tease: With Chao, occsionally.
  • The Sociopath: Usually Wake is just very excitable, but in a few episodes she does truly depraved things (e.g. killing Kai in the sausage factory and having Chao eat her remains).
  • The Lad-ette: She enjoys fighting and brutal video games just as much as the boys do.
  • Vague Age: Lampshaded in her birthday episode: She's *cough*teen years old.
  • Would Hurt a Child: After she is appointed junior officer, she beats the everloving crap out of a little boy for littering.
  • Yandere: Briefly, when Chao was dating Kai.

     Chao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chao_0.png
"Und ich bin Chao Pingbang Shingpingpam Piting Pimpanpum!"

A perpetually unlucky boy with blue hair.

  • Butt-Monkey: His bad luck really is something else.
  • Can't Spit It Out: He has a major crush on Wake, but can never seem to tell her.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: What he ends up being to Wake in the majority of the episodes.
  • The Eeyore: If the blue hair covering one eye didn't tip you off. He's pretty justified, since his parents were killed by his Evil Twin and he has to live all by himself.
  • Fetish: Has a thing for girls' underwear.
  • Hope Spot: Kai, as well as the various episodes with time travel and alternate universes where he got to meet his dead family again. Of course, Wake ruins it every time.
  • No-Respect Guy: Chao, it's a Running Gag.
  • Nosebleed: Chao's standard reaction upon seeing a girl's panties.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: His full name is much longer; see Overly Long Name. But just Chao is fine by him.
  • Only Sane Man: He's often the only one who takes any issue with supernatural things, painfully obvious bad guys or some of the...less moral things Wake does.
  • Overly Long Name: Depending on the episode, it's either of these:
    • Chao Pingbang Shingpingpam Piting Pimpanpum
    • Chao Wingching Hongfingshong Pingpangpong
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: He's (usually) a subversion. Despite having red eyes, he's arguably the most civil of the three. He does have occasional dark moments, but they're nothing in comparison to Wake's bodycount.
  • Seen It All: Sometimes Wake's antics don't really scare him anymore.

     Ass
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ass_7.png
"Hey, ich glaub ich bekomm auch eine 1+, in meiner Hose!"
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/assm3fdchen.png
As(s) a girl

A classmate of Wake and Chao who is obsessed with dick jokes. And Chao.

Family Members

     Wake's Okaasan
Wake's Okaasan (Mom), she is a skilled cook, but rather unskilled in everything else.

     Puschi
A cat who was run over by a car, but found by Wake. She takes *cough* "good care" of himnote  afterwards.
  • Butt-Monkey: Whenever he appears, he's getting the short stick.
  • Cats Are Mean: Played With. He despises Wake, but he was shown to be a rather affable critter before she adopted him.
  • Death Seeker: "Please kill me" and "I hate my life" are common sentences from him. And with an owner like Wake, who could blame him?
  • Gender-Blender Name: Wake named him under the assumption that he was female. It also counts as a Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?, since "Puschi" is a Portmanteau from "Pussy" and "Muschi", the German equivalent.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: Episode 11 centers around the "Mysterious Knife-Murderer". The last shot shows Puschi pulling a knife out...
  • Your Tomcat Is Pregnant: Inverted. Wake thinks he is a female, even when a pet store owner tried to tell her otherwise. Fittingly, said pet store owner found him with a litter of kittens, who were his, but he was the father.
  • Xenofiction: He is shown to talk whenever a scene focuses on him, but cutting back to the other characters, they can only hear his desperate meowing.

     Chao's Parents
His Mom and Dad, died at the same time due to their son, Xiao being The Klutz.

     Xiao
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xiao_5.png
"Ich bin Xiao, dein Zwillingsbruder!"
Chao's evil twin brother.

Side Characters

     Midori
A classmate and "friend" of Wake.
  • Gamer Chick: Reveals herself to be one in Episode 34, to the point where she won a gaming competition against Ass.
  • Hidden Depths: Episode 10 shows she's quite skilled on the E-guitar.
    • Episode 32 follows up on this. When asked what she wants to be in the future, Midori answers she'd like to be a rockstar.
  • Meaningful Name: Her new character design gave her green eyes.
  • Nerd Glasses: Wears a pair of small, round spectacles at all times.
  • Nice Girl: Always willing to help others. Maybe a bit too willing, since it's heavily implied Wake uses her and Robasaan to hold her status as top of the class.
  • Pubescent Braces: That often cause others to misunderstand her.
  • Running Gag: Almost nobody can understand what she's saying due to her braces.

     Robasaan
A girl in Wakes and Chaos class with the face of a mule. Literally.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Downplayed in Episode 26, it doesn't star her, but we learn about her home situation. (Which is more than Ass or Midori got.)
  • Flat Character: Apart from being a nerd and some puns directed at her appearance, she receives not much characterization.
  • Nerd Glasses: The same model as Midoris.
  • Parental Abandonment: For some reason, she lives with roomates, as an analouge to the Bremen Street Musicians. Her parents are never mentioned. Or any other relatives.
  • Running Gag: She looks like a mule, complete with hooves and everything, yet nobody seems to take issue with a sentient animal in their class. When other characters point this out, they usually get put in their place for "bullying" her.
  • Water-Triggered Change: She was turned into a mule by the water from the Spring of the Drowned Introvert Donkey.

     Frau Lehrerin
A slightly confused elderly woman who teaches in Wakes' and Chaos' class.

     Master Futsi
A former Volleyball-Champion, he has now retired and lives with his four daughters in a badly conditioned house. Wake idolizes him when she had a Volleyball-phase.
  • Companion Cube: His Boat, "Mrs. Futsi", it crashed near Fishköpp Coast and he visits the wreck sometimes. Wake thinks he was talking about the grave of his wife at first.
  • Cool Old Guy: He's willing to help Wake and Chao whenever they need it. However, they need to repeat it a few times.
  • Expy: Played with, visually, Master Futsi looks very similar to Muten Roshi from Dragon Ball. His characterization is taken from Fresh D however.
  • Hidden Depths: He is quite well-read in paranormal conspiracies.
  • Innocent Innuendo: He talks about how Frau Lehrerin used to have "massive bells" and he likes collecting pictures of "fat pugs". As in: actual bells (he even bought them from her) and actual fat pugs; both also mean "big boobs" in German.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: Downplayed, the tooth of time wasn't kind to him, he's bald, has wrinkles and pimples and his beard is completely gray. His younger self is pretty average looking, or handsome. It's hard to tell with the artstyle.
  • Overly Long Name: Futsimitetsuyafatsche Yoshifatzomotucanadazoo.
  • Scatterbrained Senior: He fits the bill 100%. He's frequently shown to behave oddly or confuse things.

     Master Futsi's Beautiful Daughters
Master Futsi's four daughters. Their names are Suzy, Sissy, Susu and Kasulouh.
Tropes applying to all of them
  • Ambiguously Absent Parent: They live with their father, but no mention has been there of their mother.
  • The Dividual: They are pretty much the same character, only Kasulouh receives some screentime of her own.
  • Fiery Redhead: They are pretty good at sports and have red hair.
  • Girlish Pigtails: Suzy and Sissy have them.
  • Jerk Jock: Not exactly, they are quite affable, unless you play Volleyball against them.
  • Odd Name Out: Suzy, Sissy, Susu, Kasulouh.
  • Satellite Character: They only appear alongside their father and don't receive much charaterization themselves.
  • Supreme Chef: Besides Volleyball, they also like to cook. Wake pretty much eats it without chewing, then again, Wake eats about anything.
  • The Ugly Guy's Hot Daughter: Daughters, plural. However, Master Futsi is only ugly because he's old, and Kasulouh isn't exactly "hot".
  • Visual Innuendo: When they cook, Sissy holds a pair of cucumbers while Suzy's holding a pair of baguettes. Susu is holding a radish and two potatoes and... you know what they're doing, right?

Tropes applying to Kasulouh specifically

     Mototsu
Wake's boyfriend (or ex-boyfriend)

     Kai Ichikawa
Chao's girlfriend for all about two episodes. Then Wake kills her.

     Rai Ichikawa
Kai's crazy sister. She hates Wake for killing her sister.
