    Tropes Applying to Several Characters

  • All Take and No Give: Almost all of the antagonists expect only their wants and needs to be catered to without even bothering to truly work for it.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Everyone in these stories, whether they believe in friendship or not, has a hard time being told that their beliefs might not be absolute.
    • Twilight and co. can't grasp the idea that someone wouldn't want to accept friendship, love and harmony, and are consistently portrayed as trying to force their ways upon the problem ponies. Their attempts backfire every time, only ending in the problem ponies strengthening their resolve and acting even worse.
    • The problem ponies (or humans, depending on the story) are wholly convinced that there's nothing wrong with their way of life, no matter how problematic it would be in the long run. When told otherwise, they coldly and loudly dismiss their worries the first time, then turn angry and spiteful after a repeat offense. Sometimes, the result tends to be violent, especially when Twilight "fixes" the problem behind the character's back.
  • The Dissenter Is Always Right: The author's mouthpieces, whether they be Stone Heart, Beast Boy or whatever character of the day comes along, hate friendship and just want to be left to their own devices, in a world where friendship is increasingly becoming (or has already become) the norm. Naturally, considering the person writing these stories, they're presented as entirely correct.
  • Flat Character: As is the usual with this author, all of the characters have a single trait, and are one-note and bland; most of the problem characters can be summed up as "They’re antisocial and hate friendship because [insert excuse of the week here] and that's about it" or "They despise/can't let go of [insert name here] because [insert petty reason here]." Canon characters are subject to some severe Flanderisation, as usual: Twilight refuses to give up on the problem ponies, Starlight never thinks it's going to end well, Celestia is only there to sympathize with the problem pony and occasionally berate Twilight, and Rarity is, for want of a better word, a bimbo; that's all the personality to be found. The complete lack of character development, especially among the problem ponies, doesn't help matters.
  • Friendship-Hating Antagonist: Just about all of the original characters or Author Avatars are these, due to their roles as the opposition towards the concept of friendship, and due to Twilight and co. being presented as the protagonists. Unusually for this trope, Twilight is supposed to learn from them that friendship can't solve all problems.
  • Hero Antagonist: Twilight and her friends are presented as the focal characters, but the "heroes" of the story are the ones they're going up against.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: How the author's stand-ins are framed. Their role in their stories is to prove that those who hate friendship and kindness are justified in doing so, and that trying to change their lives for the better will lead to terrible consequences. They're right, just not for the intended reasons: in real life, friendship isn't the end-all-be-all solution to every problem, and some people are just unwilling to change their way of life, even when doing so would genuinely benefit them.
  • Karma Houdini: Mykan's Author Avatars tend to get away with their jerkish behavior. For instance:
    • Talon Ted gets rewarded for being a selfish Manchild throwing a hissy fit by being taken seriously by talent agencies, and later getting an actual gig. Meanwhile, Twilight gets called out by Princess Celestia for trying to make things right while only calling Talon out on his anger issues (which he dismisses as "nobody's perfect"), and Ath-Lita is more or less abandoned by the brother she tried to help.
    • Write a Wrong has Stone Heart throwing a tantrum over Twilight's revisions to his story, causing a massive scene that could've resulted in multiple injuries. He gets off scot-free, and the disturbance is blamed on Twilight instead. This happens with him again in "Write of Way" wherein he insults Princess Celestia, the ruler of Equestria...and is rewarded with being a successful self-help book author.
  • Moral Myopia: Several of Mykan's Author Avatars, as well as the in-story narrative, misrepresent, demonize, and humiliate Twilight and her friends either out of petty spite or simply because they can (with the author gleefully reveling in it). But when they are suddenly called out on their behavior, their default responses are to either callously brush it off or become outraged and disgusted, proving that they are nowhere near as thick-skinned as they pretend to be.
  • Narcissist: The Author Avatars have all five traits to some extent or another; being convinced of their own superiority, being utterly self-absorbed, being extremely self-conscious of how they're perceived by others, being incapable of admitting responsibility and being insatiable for acclaim and/or power.
  • Punny Name:
    • "Talon Ted" of "talented" and Ath-Lita of "athlete" or "Athleta". Although "Talon Ted" could also fall under Non-Indicative Name, considering he's a pony, an animal that lacks talons.
    • "Bill Dollar" is one to "dollar bill".
  • Seven Deadly Sins:
    • Pride: Most of the characters are guilty of this, their overall desire being to have their methods or any form of work from them done their way simply to prove that it's superior to everyone else's methods. Stone Heart, Talon Ted, and Bill Dollar are primary examples of this.
    • Lust: Some of their motivations stem from their refusal to let go of their affection for a certain woman who either is already taken or simply doesn't feel the same way about them. Beast Boy, Davis, Strings, Stone Heart, Snapshot, and Helper Soul are all guilty of this.
    • Sloth: They could easily achieve their goals through alternative means but ultimately choose not to put any work in. Stone Heart, Bill Dollar, and especially Talon Ted are all guilty of this.
    • Greed: A rather unique variation; everything they do is for their own benefit and never anyone else's. They even go as far as to give their checks to charity out of pure spite rather than genuine kindness simply because they didn't get it through the methods they wanted. Talon Ted, Needle Stitch, Stone Heart, and Miser Stash are primary examples.
    • Gluttony: They can only be satisfied with nothing less than exactly what they want and will outright refuse to accept any form of credit or payment for their accomplishments unless it's gained via their exact methods, as shown with Stone Heart and Talon Ted.
    • Envy: It's not uncommon for them to hold a grudge against others for having better lives than them, with Stone Heart, Beast Boy, Courier, and Helper Soul being the worst offenders.
    • Wrath: One of the most prominent aspects of them all is that they won't hesitate to threaten anyone who disagrees with them with acts of violence, and sometimes will outright resort to it almost unprovoked. Examples include Stone Heart, Luna Light, Silver Nickle, Courier, Beast Boy, Miser Stash, Erebus, and the Dark Angels.
  • The Unapologetic: None of Mykan's Author Avatars ever take responsibility for their actions.

Character who appear across multiple stories:

    Twilight Sparkle

  • The Determinator: She always tries her best to get through to those with friendship problems and help them improve their lives, no matter how much they reject and act hostile towards her. She gets as far as saving someone from suicide, even if she gets shamed for it afterwards.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: She gets disrespected a lot because she wants to help people, even though she's a princess who's saved Equestria on multiple occasions.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones: Whilst she's friendly towards every pony and tries to help even unpleasant ponies improve their lives, her interaction with Stone Heart in Twilight in Therapy shows she's lost all her patience for dealing with him and very much dislikes him for being a Jerkass that refuses to change his bad attitude and for writing self-help books that discourage friendship.
  • Failure Heroine: Due to the nature of the series, all her efforts to help others end up failing and she's left feeling upset.
  • Forgot About Her Powers: Twilight frequently forgets she has the ability to use telekinesis, create shields, or teleport in most of these stories.
  • Hero Antagonist: She is still the nice, helpful mare that wants friendship to prevail, but she ends up opposing the protagonists of each story.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Anything she does to try an help ponies improve their lives will inevitably backfire in someway, leading to her getting berated by the pony she was trying to help and sometimes by Princess Celestia too.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: In Heart's Warming Carol, she arrests Miser, not for littering out of spite (which he did), but for the more serious crime of arson (which he didn't).

    Rarity

  • Adaptational Jerkass: In Fallout Fashions, she's revealed to have stolen credit for a dress design from her best friend in the past (something she loathes in canon) and in The Meanie of Hearth's Warming Eve, she's portrayed as being envious and bitter towards her rival, Glitter Glitz, who doesn't show her the same level of contempt and seemingly just wants to be friendly to her.

    Rainbow Dash

    Fluttershy

  • Romantic False Lead: In Beast Boy in Equestria, she and Beast Boy develop feelings for each other during his stay with her and Beast Boy fantasizes about settling down and starting a family with her. Once Beast Boy returns to his world, he goes right back to pining after Terra.

    Pinkie Pie

    Princess Celestia

  • Adaptational Jerkass: She's far more prone to chastising Twilight for how she tries to solve the friendship problems, despite the fact that she was just trying to help. A far cry from the canon where she's wholeheartedly supportive of Twilight's efforts.
  • Blaming the Victim: In Write of Way, the only thing she does about Stone Heart threatening and nearly attacking Twilight is ordering him to apologise because she thinks that Twilight was "provoking him into threatening her" when she was just trying to help him.
  • Misplaced Retribution: In both Pride and Punishment and Write a Wrong, she gets mad at Twilight for "trying to force her opinions onto others" rather than getting mad at Talon Ted for essentially throwing a temper tantrum in public and possibly committing fraud and Stone Heart for committing property damage because he didn't like the edits Twilight made to his books.
  • Skewed Priorities: In Write in the Head, she never gets angry at Stone Heart for attacking her, her student or countless other innocent ponies with nightmares but does get angry when Rainbow Dash and Rarity call Stone a jerkass and complain about how they're not going to punish him.

Stone Heart

A unicorn who's an unpopular writer with very thin skin.
    Tropes Applying to All Versions

  • Ambitious, but Lazy: Wants people to praise his crappy writing, and gets mad when people criticize his work or suggest improvements rather than listening to them and putting in the work to make something people would like.
  • The Bully: Verbally attacks those who disagree with his views.
  • Can't Take Criticism: To the point that getting any help with his stories will make him throw a tantrum, even if it genuinely helps him as people have legit gripes towards his works. He even causes nightmares to his critics, brushes them off as haters, and refuses to change because it'd mean going against his preferences. He also hates success if it means he has to listen to criticism for it.
  • Entitled Bastard: He expects that his books should be praised simply because they're what he likes to write, despite the numerous problems that other ponies have with them. When other ponies react negatively to his books, he accuses them of being selfish for doing so.
  • Fan Haterinvoked: He hates any story (even ones he writes himself) that doesn't appeal to his preferences and he hates the ponies who enjoy those types of stories by extension.
  • Hypocrite: He frequently complains about how it's unfair that ponies don't like his stories because of their preferences but he himself dismisses stories that don't appeal to his own preferences as being terrible and thinks other ponies are stupid for liking them.
  • It's All About Me: He only cares about what he wants in his stories and not about what others want, and he still expects to be praised for it.
  • Mugging the Monster:
    • Nearly attacked Twilight, an Alicorn, just because she annoyed him.
    • He targeted Twilight in her dreams with his magic typewriter, never once assuming that she might suspect him.
  • Never My Fault: Despite the universally negative reactions that his books receive, he's convinced that he's doing nothing wrong as a writer and that the problem is just that everyone but him has terrible taste in writing.
  • Small Name, Big Ego:
    • He's convinced his writing is perfect despite all the flaws in it and refuses to change because that would mean going against his preferences.
    • In Twilight in Therapy, he even claims that he contributes more to the community than Twilight does. Twilight is a princess who has helped numerous ponies, saved Equestria on multiple occasions and united the other races. Meanwhile, Stone Heart is a trash picker and self-help book author who encourages ponies to be selfish like himself.

    Writer's Blockade Version

  • Did Not Get the Girl: This version is bitter over this fact, which ruins his friendship with her.
  • Hypocrite: Calls ponies disgraceful, selfish, and inconsiderate when he's hardly any better.
  • It's All About Me: He has this attitude towards Sandy Beam and Shining Hope's relationship. He doesn't care about their happiness, only that Sandy isn't in love with him instead. Also, when Sandy and Shining told Stone to stop writing Sandy as a love interest in his stories, he didn't care that he was creeping Sandy out and instead became upset that he didn't have inspiration for stories anymore.
  • Never My Fault: He puts all blame on Sandy Beam and Shining Hope for their friendship falling apart because they teased him by flirting with each other and made him stop writing Sandy as a Love Interest in his story. The flirting only upset him because he felt entitled to Sandy's affection and Sandy and Shining told him to stop writing about Sandy because he was creeping her out by doing it but didn't care.
  • No Sympathy: He doesn't care about how him writing Sandy as a Love Interest in his stories creeped her out and he's angry at her and Shining Hope telling him to stop, treating it as a cruel act on their behalf.

    Write A Wrong Version

  • Unreliable Narrator: His friend Sandy leaves him to travel the world and try new things. While she at least lets him down gently and wishes him luck, he claimes that she "dumped him in cold blood, not even asking if they’d still at least be friends", even though the flashback never indicates that she ended their friendship.

    Write Of Way Version

    Write in the Head Version

  • The Bad Guy Wins: Near the end of the Write in the Head, he uses the magical typewriter to reverse time and erase everyone's memories of the nightmares he had given them, allowing him to escape any punishment he would have faced. He keeps the magical typewriter so he can use it if anyone gets suspicious of him and he's also able to use it to supply himself with an endless amount of money. Also, his bully gets humiliated and sentenced to community service and his parents lose all their money in Las Pegasus, forcing them to move into a poor house.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Gets his hooves on a magical typewriter that can actually make his stories a reality or influence the dreams of others, and instead he chooses to waste his time taking petty revenge just because people insulted his work.
  • Dirty Coward:
    • Targets Spike, a defenseless child, simply because of his connection to Twilight.
    • Rather than own up to his actions and face punishment for his crimes, he uses the typewriter to reverse time and erase everyone's memories of him.
  • Evil Is Petty: It doesn't take much for him to decide that someone is deserving of a nightmare. Reasons include insulting him (regardless of if he acted hostile towards the pony in question first), enjoying stories that he doesn't like or just having a happier life than he does.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: One of the main reasons he hates Twilight so much is that he's jealous of how accepting friendship led her to a happier and more fulfilling life than his.
Stone Heart: "Friendship has done nothing but cause me pain and suffering for as long as I can remember. No matter how hard I tried, it never worked, but I see ponies like you making it look so easy… it breaks me to the core! …Now! You’re going to pay for it!"
  • Hypocrite:
    • Claims to not be shallow and still have some honor... after committing several atrocities with his typewriter for petty reasons and still choosing to keep it despite knowing the harm it's caused, rather than just turning it over to the authorities.
    • Accuses Twilight of invading his privacy when he intentionally attacks ponies in their dreams over petty insults, even those who have nothing to do with him.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: The reason he only attacks ponies in their dreams is so he will not get caught.
  • Psychopathic Man Child: Taunts the audience like a child in the final chapter.
  • Stupid Evil: How he expected to get away with his nightmare scheme without anyone finding him out is quite jarring.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Targeted Spike in his dreams simply because he was friends with Twilight.

Beast Boy

    Tropes Applying to All Versions

    Garfield Logan

  • The Ace: He's highly intelligent and highly athletic, performing well in all of his classes and being able to beat Rainbow Dash in a soccer match.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Whilst he could be a jerkass in Mykan's other Teen Titans HSM fanfics, he would usually come to regret how he treated the Titans and end up befriending them. Here, he remains unrepentant of his ways and still acts hostile towards the Titans and Equestria Girls, even after they save his life. He also mocks the other Titans' tragic pasts, something he never did in any of the other fics, not even as Count Logan.
  • Alternate Self: He's Beast Boy from a universe where he and the other Teen Titans are regular high school students without super powers. He's also the only version of the character not to have feelings for Terra.
  • Big Man on Campus: Described as such in Act 2 but he's not popular or kind as the term usually indicates.
  • Blaming the Victim: He tells the Equestria Girls that getting captured by the villains was their own fault.
Garfield: “And I suppose letting yourselves even be captured by a group of third-rated poor-excuse for villains like them happened by chance, or is it because you let your guards down when you should have known better?”
  • The Bully: Despite Vic saying that he's not one, he actively pushed Rainbow into playing soccer against him, taunts her with petty insults and jabs during the game, and when she loses, he mocks her and kicks her while she's down, calling her pathetic.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: He reacts with hostility to any act of kindness that anybody shows him, such as Twilight and her parents letting him stay at their home or Terra getting him some lunch.
  • Freudian Excuse: Why is he rude? His parents died in a flood in the Amazon when he was five and he was then sent to an abusive orphanage where the manager tried to kill him for his inheritance. After running away, he was homeless for awhile before eventually moving into a creepy abandoned mansion where he's attacked by wolves everyday and he has to work hard to survive to the point that he's barely able to get any sleep.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: Garfield dismisses the other Titans' pasts because their lives eventually improved whilst he's still forced to work hard to survive, leaving him always starving and sleep-deprived. He doesn't seem to realise that his own life could improve as well if he didn't constantly reject everyone's offers to help him.
  • Honor Before Reason: Despite the fact that he could stay at Twilight Sparkle's house, he instead chooses to continue living in his creepy mansion where he's regularly attacked by wolves and has to work hard every day for basic living essentials like water and heat.
  • Hover Bike: His moped, the Tidwell-3000, is capable of flying thanks to modifications that Garfield made to it.
  • Hypocrite: He calls the Equestria Girls "pathetic" for getting captured by the villains, even though said villains were also able to disarm and nearly kill him, only failing to do so because he gets exposed to the magic they had been extracting and turns into a dragon.
  • Insane Troll Logic: According to him, it's the Equestria Girls' fault his house got destroyed because it was their magic that turned him into a dragon and caused him to destroy it. This is despite the fact that the girls' magic was stolen from them by the villains and they had nothing to do with him getting exposed to it. When the girls point this out, Garfield still finds them at fault for getting captured, even though he also got captured and their magic saved his life.
  • Irrational Hatred: He hates the Equestria Girls from the moment they meet due to losing his lunch in their encounter and that hatred increases even more when he loses his house after getting transformed by their magic, even though other people stole said magic and misused it.
  • Jerkass: He acts rude to everyone he meets, regardless of how nice they are to him. When first meeting Shining Armour and Cadance, he calls them pathetic for being married adults that live with their parents, even though neither of them had even spoken to him before.
  • No Sympathy: Despite the Titans all having faced hardships throughout their lives, including some losing their parents and being abused like him, Garfield cruelly dismisses them with "Big deal!" in his diary because their lives eventually improved whilst his hasn't, culminating in him writing that they're all pathetic.
  • Skewed Priorities: Garfield hates the people who try to make his life better (the Equestria Girls extend an offer of friendship) more than the people who made his life worse (the Ambers and Dionnes murdered his parents).
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Even after the Equestria Girls and Titans save his life, he still rejects their offer of friendship and instead blames them for what happened to him.

    Count Logan
An evil version of Beast Boy from The End of Ends who was "cursed/possessed" by the Dark Prognosticus. He now wants to destroy everything as revenge for the terrible life he was forced to live... and especially because Terra dumped him.
  • Age Lift: He was reincarnated as an adult after previously being a teenager.
  • Artifact of Doom: The Dark Prognosticus, which exploits his hate and anger and helps influence him into becoming a mass murderer.
  • Asshole Victim: He dies after he committed murder, stalking and gaslighting.
  • Blaming the Victim: Whilst he has Terra as his prisoner, he reveals his identity to her so he can make her feel responsible for his massacre of the universe.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He fully embraces his role as the destroyer of the universe. He's shown being more than happy to commit evil acts out of spite and For the Evulz and frequently engages in Evil Laughter as he does so.
  • Evil Is Petty: His main excuse for destroying everything is that he was dumped by Terra. His actions include destroying one of his former friends' planets because she was in a happy relationship and he wasn't, and also ripping a baby's head off just because he could.
  • Expressive Mask: His eyebrows magically show through his mask to show his mood.
  • Expy: As his story is a Whole-Plot Reference to the main plot of Super Paper Mario, Count Logan is one to Count Bleck, right down to having the same hat and cane. Both are the Big Bad who use the Dark Prognosticus to open the Void to destroy all worlds and their motives involve losing the woman they loved, albeit due to different circumstances.
  • Forced into Evil: The Dark Prognosticus has cursed him to fulfil its prophecy of destroying the universe. He has some free will and the book came to him because of his own hatred, but it's said that the book will force him to fulfil the prophecy even if he tries resisting it.
  • Freudian Excuse: He had an unhappy childhood, lost his parents and got dumped. His retaliation is wanting to destroy everything.
  • Hypocrite: Beast Boy tells Terra that her actions towards him were inexcusible, regardless of the pain she suffered in her old life, but has no problem using his own tragic past to justify his own bad actions. Both before and after he becomes Count Logan.
  • Informed Attribute: Despite the author's insistence that he was cursed instead of possessed like in the original, not only does Beast Boy not act any different than he did in the original story, he doesn't seem to act any different even before he gets cursed. Made even worse by the fact that the author has gone on record claiming that, even if Terra hadn't dumped him, he would have become evil anyway because of the terrible life he's had to live... ignoring the fact that both he and the narrative continuously focus on Terra dumping him being the primary reason behind his anger.
  • Informed Kindness:
    • Terra insists that there is still good in Count Logan because he chose to have her kept alive as a prisoner instead of killing her. This falls flat once you remember Logan didn't do this out of kindness, but rather so he could force Terra to watch the universe get destroyed and so he could reveal his identity to her causing her to feel personally responsible for it. If anything, this act makes Logan look even more villainous.
    • The story insists that he doesn't want to destroy the universe, but is being forced to do it by the Dark Prognosticus. However, he's shown to deliberately commit villainous acts just to be petty (destroying Tamaran just to spite Starfire for being in a happy relationship with Robin) or just For the Evulz (ripping off Flurry Heart's head just because he can) all whilst laughing unstably and revelling in the destruction he causes. He's only shown regretting that he isn't in a happy relationship with Terra like he originally wanted. Overall, it gives the impression that he'd still destroy the universe, even if he wasn't cursed.
  • It's All About Me: His reasons for villainy are all about him being mistreated.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While his retaliation was atrocious, being dumped really wasn't his fault. He also did have every right to defend himself against the hired thugs who targeted him, despite their clients wanting to protect Terra.
  • Love Makes You Evil: What fully drove him over the edge was Terra Faking Amnesia and dumping him.
  • Never My Fault: He blames everything he does on Terra for dumping him and the Titans because he believes they didn't support him. This also shows that he is still at least partially in control despite the book cursing him.
  • Off with Her Head!: Count Logan is not the victim of this, however, he rips off Flurry Heart's head.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Plans to destroy the multiverse and nearly succeeds.
  • Orwellian Retcon: The author insists that he was cursed by the book instead of possessed like in the original, ignoring the fact that he acts the same either way.
  • Skewed Priorities: He blames Terra, who dumped him, for his crimes, and not Slade who abused her to the point she had to find a normal life, which meant she had to sacrifice her relationship with Beast Boy. In fact, he prioritizes tormenting married couples like Cadance and Shining Armor over Slade. He also doesn't seem to attack the thieves that abused him in his youth, even though they deserved it. While being dumped is not the only bad thing that happened to him, it's what he gives the most emphasis on by far.
  • Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum: His goal is to destroy the entire universe and then himself because of his bad past, Terra breaking up with him and the Titans being mean to him sometimes.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Isn't above decapitating newborn foals himself, as shown with Flurry Heart. Nekard also says that Logan's actions make him responsible for the deaths of countless infants.

    Dark Angel Beast Boy

  • The Dragon: This version, while still becoming destructive, is not the main antagonist; he instead serves Erebus.
  • Offing the Offspring: When Terra tries to appeal to him by showing him their newborn son, he blasts the baby into dust.

Terra Markov

    Tropes Applying to All Versions

  • Faking Amnesia: She does this to cut all ties with her former past for the sake of her new normal life. Beast Boy doesn't take it well.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Beast Boy and other characters who learn of her reasons for Faking Amnesia to him are quick to scold her that whilst her motivations may have been understandable, it was a horrible way to treat somebody who cared so much about her.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Her motivation for Faking Amnesia is that she wants to live a normal life as a school girl after the trauma from her past life and experiences with Slade. She later goes back to being a superhero after realising that she still loves Beast Boy.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: She becomes very remorseful over having dumped Beast Boy in each story and she wants to get back together with him.

    Ways of Life Version

  • Alternate Self: She's a regular high school student with no past of being a superhero. She has not been in a relationship with Beast Boy in this continuity, nor is she the reason for his Jerkass behaviour.
  • Demoted to Extra: In all other Friendship is Failure stories, she's the main reason why Beast Boy acts the way he does and her regret and desire to make amends with Beast Boy is given a lot of focus. In the other Teen Tians HSM stories, she's the one who kickstarts Garfield taking a level in kindness and the two start a relationship with each other. Here, Garfield treats her with the same animosity he treats everyone else with and never changes his views on her, leaving her with very little impact on the plot.
  • Innocent Beta Bitch: With Jackie and Jillian. She only started hanging out with them because she was very unpopular when she first got into high school and they convinced her she'd be recognized if she hung out with them. She's actually a Nice Girl who doesn't share the two's unpleasant attitudes and she's willing to call both of them out on their behaviour.
  • Rescue Romance: She has a crush on Garfield due to him having saved her from robbers when they were pre-teens, even though it's clear he only beat up the would-be thieves so he could rob them.

    The End of Ends Version
  • The Chosen One: After the Titans, Doom Patrol and ponies all fail to defeat Count Logan, she picks up the Light Prognosticus and becomes "the individual whom is one is all and all in one" written in it. This gives Terra a massive power boost which allows her to defeat Count Logan in combat.
  • Forced to Watch: Count Logan takes her prisoner so that he can force her to watch the universe get destroyed before he kills her. He also reveals his identity to her so that she'll feel responsible for all of it.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her dumping of Beast Boy proved to be the final straw for him to become so unhappy that the Dark Prognosticus chooses for him to become its wielder, kickstarting the end of the universe.

Strings

    Tropes Applying In All Versions
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mwwfc5n3lnnhzuzryxrwnc9pxzq0nosuvdca_qfdwpu.jpg

  • Did Not Get the Girl: He primarily is sad because he didn't get Cadance.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He can't move on from Cadance and he knows it, but he avoids actively stalking her and doesn't want to be with her while she is under a love potion.
  • Failed a Spot Check: He moves to the Crystal Empire simply to avoid living in the same area as Princess Cadance... and yet somehow didn't realize that Cadance was the ruler of the Crystal Empire until after he'd moved there. This is especially jarring when you remember that the Crystal Empire returned and was saved from Sombra with Cadance becoming the new Princess in the span of a day.
  • Remember the New Guy?: It's revealed that he's an old friend of Cadance's, and yet their earlier meeting implies this is the first time she's ever met him. Made even more jarring since he hasn't changed that much or gone by a separate alias of any sort.

One-Shot Characters:

Writer's Blockade

    Shining Hope

    Sandy Beam

Fallout Fashions

    Needle Stitch/Manny Collars
A successful fashion designer with a grudge against Rarity.
  • Didn't Think This Through: When he first learned that Rarity was claiming credit for the dress he made for her, he publicly confronted her about it. He never considered how bad he would look if Rarity denied this accusation that he had no proof of, which caused his reputation in Ponyville to be ruined. Also, despite not wanting to ruin Rarity, he also never considered that she would be the one whose reputation would be ruined if she confessed the truth.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: How he feels about Rarity stealing one of his dress designs, refusing to forgive her even after she discontinues the dress and makes numerous attempts to apologise. Even after Rarity helps finish off some of his old prototype designs and displays them in a fashion show whilst crediting him for them, Manny still refuses to forgive her fully and doesn't want to reconcile with her. He is willing to unban her from her store though.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He and Rarity used to be good friends when he was still Needle Stitch, untill Rarity claimed credit for a dress that he designed and gave to her as a present. As Manny Collars, not only does he ban Rarity from his stores and try to get her arrested for stalking at one point, he even had his cutie mark removed just because she helped him get it.

Love Doesn't Work That Way

    Sun Rae

Pride and Punishment

    Talon Ted
An actor whose self-centered pride keeps him from getting the job of his dreams.
  • Ambitious, but Lazy: At first, he wanted to be an actor without earning a degree, thinking he was too good to get one. When his sister made him get one, rather than use it to try and get a degree, he just lazes around and expects people to hand him an acting job.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Talon Ted is a fantastic actor, but he expects others to just give him what he wants without him having to put in any type of work. When this doesn't happen, he just lazes around all day.
  • Disappointing Older Sibling: Ath-Lita sees him as this, due to his refusal to become an actor because of the degree she made him get.
  • Fatal Flaw: His pride, which keeps him from getting his dream job.
  • His Own Worst Enemy: Talon Ted is entirely responsible for not getting the job he wants.
  • Honor Before Reason: He's perfectly capable of being an actor and already has invites to join respected acting guilds but he refuses to accept these offers because his sister made him get a degree which hurt his "pride".
  • Hypocrite:
  • I Resemble That Remark!: He gets very angry when Ath-Lita accuses him of being selfish and tells her that he was the one who donated one-thousand bits to the fundraiser... whilst also admitting that the reason he donated was to spite his sister, rather than to actually help anyone in need.
  • Jerkass: He whines about how society has to change for him, and how he doesn't want to get the job he likes because he has a degree for it. He hates Ath-Lita for pushing him to get a degree more than for her hitting him with a bat, sees Rarity as a moron in his fantasies and puts his spite above everything else. Even his charity has spiteful motives.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: From all his complaints, only one is legitimate: Ath-Lita hitting him with a bat.
  • Laborious Laziness: He makes an elaborate plan involving a body double and gives earned money to charity in an effort to not get the job of his dreams.
  • Manchild: He's first shown ignoring his sister by covering his ears and humming loudly and he frequently throws tantrums because things didn't go his way.
  • Never My Fault: His sister and the entire acting industry must pay in his head for the crime of making him get a degree. The former even lampshades it.
  • Oblivious to His Own Description:
    • Calls his sister "The world's worlds foremost expert on ignoring everything you say to her like it doesn't matter", and this is after he ignored her by covering his ears and humming loudly like a child.
    • He sees the acting agencies as "bigoted fools who couldn't appreciate alternative ways", despite his refusal to accept the methods alternative to his ways.
  • Orwellian Retcon: Each retcon gradually decreases the rescinding of his charity until it isn't even mentioned.
  • Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: Despite his wealth, he does nothing meaningful with it, except give to charity with selfish motives.
  • The Slacker: Talon Ted prefers spending time at work fantasising, rather than doing his job. In the original, he stalled a pony who had been waiting for his service because he was imagining himself and the Mane 6 having a Star Fox-esque battle against his sister. Downplayed in the rewrite, where Talon's fantasy sequence takes place during his break. Also, he considers the industry favoring those who have a degree, which is evidence of hard work, bigotry.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Is convinced he didn't need to go to college to be a successful actor although he claims that no one would give him an opportunity without a degree, implying that he wasn't as good as he thought he was. He is supposed to be able to back up his talent, but he doesn't show it much, apart from being a great imitator.
  • The Sociopath: While likely unintentional, Talon Ted shows all the traits. Let's go through the list:
    • Lack of Empathy? He dismisses Ath-Lita's feelings and is willing to rescind donations out of spite, or at least was before it was gradually retconned out.
    • Liar and manipulator? He uses Spotlight/Stager as a pawn to prove his point and deceive his sister and Twilight.
    • Hedonistic lifestyle? He prefers to screw around and sit on welfare payments rather than actually do something with his life because he finds it more enjoyable than actually getting a job with a degree, so check.
    • Lacks emotional attachments? Ath-Lita can tell you all about it.
    • Grandiose sense of self-worth? Considering he wants society to change for his pride, you better ''believe'' that's a check.

    Ath-Lita
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8_vc4jluzs2byd77nzktk8xweqhodolsugns4c87tpy.jpg

Talon Ted's younger sister, an aspiring Equestrian Olympic Athlete.

  • Big Sister Bully: An inversion as Ath-Lita is the younger sister of Talon Ted, and she assaults him with a baseball bat (albeit because she's trying to get him to get his dream job). According to her profile, she (supposedly) targets other ponies, which she finally shows after several revisions.
  • Informed Flaw:
    • Her profile claims she's assaulted other ponies besides Talon, and yet she is genuinely nice to the mane cast and we never see her assaulting anyone other than her brother in-story.
    • According to invokedWord of God, the only reason she wants Talon to get his dream job because it helps her ego and public image... however, never once in-story is it indicated that she feels her image is more important.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: She says it's Talon's own fault for not getting the job of his dreams, which is correct. She also says it's because of his sloth, while it's because of his pride.
  • Take That, Critics!: A very unflattering portrayal of one of the author's critics.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Her goal is to help Talon Ted get his dream job and stop him from being consumed by his ego and laziness. Her means include hitting him with a baseball bat, which makes him see her as an abusive, selfish criminal.

All Work and No Play

The Meanie of Hearth's Warming

    Glitter Glitz

  • Expy: Of Schlomo. They're the rival of one of the characters and they are a succesful business owner who is given a leading role in a holiday play that the their rival wanted. Later, it's revealed that they've been jealous of the other character themself due to not having a family like they do which is why they're such a Workaholic. Glitter doesn't make amends with Rarity at the end of the story however, unlike how Schlomo and Borris do.
  • Remember the New Girl?: Rarity has apparently had a lifelong rivalry with Glitter Glitz despite the fact we just meet her.
  • The Rival: To Rarity, their rivalry going back to when they were children and Rarity seeing Glitter as trying to always oneup her and looking down on her for having a family and close friends.
  • Workaholic: She admits to being one in a magazine, saying she's too busy to celebrate Hearth's Warming. She later confesses that her reason for focusing so much on her business is due to not having any family of her own and it being all she has.

Amending Hearth's Warming

    Helper Soul
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/oxzmpxopdox85reqev4nvvso7hhrupcsakeja_abgc.jpg

A former friend of Night Light and Twilight Velvet who holds a grudge against them for having the life he wanted.

  • Butt-Monkey: On a meta level to an absurd degree, as the author himself has admitted that, no matter what attempts to better his life Helper makes, he would always make it end in tragedy because he wants him to be miserable.
  • Child Hater: He's first shown in the story shouting at two fillies who try to give him a holly wreath and scaring them off and he later calls Flurry Heart a "brat" to Shining Armor.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Despite having extensive knowledge in industrial technologies, he simply becomes an insurance sales-pony.
  • Death by Despair: He dies of a broken heart in the final chapter after singing a song lamenting how he didn't get everything he wanted in life. His mother died of this as well when she learned of Helper's injury.
  • Did Not Get the Girl: Was in love with Velvet, who loved Night Light.
  • Entitled to Have You: He feels this way about Velvet, ranting about how Night Light "took her away from him", even though they were never in a relationship to begin with.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: A lot of hatred for Night Light is due to him being envious that Night Light got married to Twilight Velvet and have a family instead of him. He also expresses envy over Shining Armor Twilight Sparkle being succesful whilst he only has his insurnce sale job.
  • Hypocrite: He claims that he left Canterlot after receiving his injury because he didn't want to lash out at Night Light and Twilight Velvet or make them unhappy, except he left the two a letter blaming them for everything that happened to him and included a torn photo of them all together. He also says he doesn't wish any harm on Nightlight but he implies he regrets trying to save Night which lead to Helper's Career-Ending Injury, thus by proxy, he wishes harm on Night (Mykan later revised how Helper got crippled, making this trope averted).
  • It's All About Me: His mentality basically operates under the belief that only his happiness matters no matter what, to the point of insisting that he deserved the life Night Light had:
    • He had feelings for Velvet back when they were young, and accused Night Light of "taking her away from him" when they got together, as Helper planned on proposing to her... ignoring the fact that he never once talked to her about his feelings (or even tried asking her out on a date) and simply assumed she felt the same way.
    • He expresses anger over their son, Shining Armor, becoming a Royal Guard, which was his dream, as well as their daughter, Twilight, becoming the Princess of Friendship, and finally Shining marrying a Princess and having a child, which added more to their family's apparent fame and honor. Basically, his overall dialogue implies that he didn't really care about having a loving family and children, but rather just having famous offspring that would make him popular.
Helper: "You and your family were all living my dreams! All Things[sic] that I could have had, while all I had was my boring job..."
    • When Shining Armor calls him out on his behavior, he never once apologizes and instead simply starts ranting about how Night Light and Velvet wronged him on a more personal level, despite this being completely unintentional on their part and, in certain cases, not remotely their fault to begin with.
  • Jerkass: His overall default personality, he even had the nerve to call Flurry Heart a brat right to Shining's face simply because she was Night Light's granddaughter.
  • Never My Fault: Mostly in the original version, he never once stops to consider the fact that if he had actually spoken to Velvet about his feelings instead of assuming she felt the same way, or been more vocal about his disappointment over being overlooked in favour of his friends... or used his knowledge in industrial technologies to get himself a better job instead of simply becoming an insurance sales-pony, things might have turned out differently. But instead he just doubles down and pins all of the blame on Night Light and Velvet.
  • Reed Richards Is Useless: It's stated that he, Night Light, and Velvet created "a new kind of magic to help improve industrial technologies", specifically thanks to his calculations and studying. However, despite apparently being that smart, he never tried creating some sort of magic that could either nullify the pain in his broken leg or at the very least create a special prosthetic that functions as well as a normal leg. Not to mention he could have just become an inventor, which arguably would've made him a lot more money than his job as an insurance sales-pony.
  • The Scrooge: He hates Hearth's Warming because Night Light marrying Velvet, his injury and the death of his mother all happened during the holidays.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Treats Twilight and Shining just as, if not more harshly than Night Light and Velvet, simply because they're related. When Shining calls him out on this, he scoffs and acts like he's perfectly justified in doing so.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Upon learning that Helper's mother died over twenty years ago, Night Light offers his condolences. Helper however just snaps at him, all the while acting like it was somehow his fault.
Night Light: "I’m just trying to show compassion!"
Helper: "Who’s asking you to try?!"
  • Unreliable Narrator: Given his self-centered view of what he's owed in life, there's an underlying tone of dubiousness to his claims on just how much Night Light and Velvet had wronged him. Made even worse by the rewritten version, given that his flashback changes from him saving Night Light to Night Light ignoring him getting hurt in favor of keeping his wife safe.

Darkness Of Dimensions

    Erebus and the Dark Angels

  • Blaming the Victim: None of them have any qualms about massacring their old worlds, friends or family; they simply blame them all for their misery, even those who had nothing to do with it.
  • Dark Is Evil: No matter how much they try to claim otherwise, they are essentially demons who would happily slaughter billions.
  • Forgot About His Powers:
    • After the Dark Zone is destroyed, neither he nor the other Dark Angels consider simply traveling to one of the various alternate dimensions they have access to. They don't even use their powers to fix the rifts.
    • At the same time, Erebus casts a spell on all existing Dark Angels that makes it so they're no longer restricted or intangible... and yet no one questions why he never did this beforehand.
  • Hypocrite: They're all very angry about the "pain" that their friends caused them (intentionally or otherwise), but are perfectly willing to cause much worse pain to billions of others throughout the multiverse when they decide to attack.
  • Informed Kindness:
    • They claim that their presence in the Dark Zone is necessary in order to keep "the darkness" at bay. However, not only do we never see this so-called "darkness" or what it can do if left unchecked, but when Twilight actually destroys the Dark Zone, there is no damage done to the rest of the multiverse, with any and all calamities and or casualties from that point on being the fault of the Dark Angels themselves.
    • It's stated that the Dark Angels were never truly evil until provoked... ignoring the fact that they were still more than content to kill all mortals in the multiverse for the fault of one without any hesitation whatsoever.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Erebus gets angry when Celestia calls him and the other Dark Angels monsters because of what some of the heroes did to them. This is all after they committed omnicide on the multiverse.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Despite only a small handful of people even knowing of their existence and causing them any problems, they decided to attack everyone in the multiverse, killing billions who had nothing to do with them.
  • Necessary Evil: They claim to be this. However, their actions within the story itself say otherwise.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Their main reason for attempting to destroy the multiverse is simply because they believe they weren't appreciated enough... ignoring the fact that they themselves chose to remain out of sight and never interacted with mortals.
  • Skewed Priorities: The destruction of the Dark Zone technically frees them from being bound to the darkness and will prevent future generations from being cursed. That's cause for celebration, right? Nope! Their first order of business is to commit omnicide on the entire multiverse out of spite.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: According to Erebus, the Dark Zone "curses" random individuals at birth to become Dark Angels. When Twilight ends up completely destroying the Dark Zone, she technically saves future generations from being cursed in the process while keeping the existing Dark Angels unharmed since they are completely immortal... however, instead of being thankful for her efforts, he proceeds to commit omnicide on the multiverse.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Erebus claims that interfering with the Dark Angels' work and the heroes' dimensional hopping have distorted the dimensional waves, causing the Dark Zone to become unbalanced... and yet, after Twilight destroys the Dark Zone, while rifts open across the multiverse, nothing else happens. In fact, the Dark Angels' omnicidal attack on the multiverse causes more damage than the rifts. Made even worse is the fact that, after the heroes escape, the Dark Angels don't even bother trying to fix whatever damage they believe has happened, but instead start partying.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Their omnicide of the multiverse naturally results in many children dying as well.

    Davis Motomiya

  • Hypocrite:
    • He claims that the girls pursuing him are all extremely shallow and only pursue him for his reputation rather than him as a person. Meanwhile, the first thing he does in the story is to reject a girl for not being Kari, which makes him look equally shallow.
    • When Kari tells him she wouldn't have gone out with him even if she wasn't dating TK because he's not her type, he's outraged that she wouldn't give him a chance, even though he never gave a chance to any of the other girls interested in him and just stuck to his belief that they were all shallow.

    Amari Nobunaga

  • Ascended Extra: In his home series, he was a One-Shot Character who only appeared in four chapters/one episode of his home series. Here, he's one of the four main Dark Angels the story focuses on. Especially notable as he shares this role with Beast Boy, Davis and Spike, all three of whom are main characters in their own series.

    Kiran
  • It's All My Fault: Both she and the narration insist that it's her fault that Erebus was banished and the Dark Angel curse was created, even though she was stressed from a bout of amnesia.

A Hearths[sic] Warming Carol

    Miser Stash

  • Abusive Dad: Miser Stash's father blamed him for the death of his mother, pushed him to very high standards at school and sent him away to a Boarding School when he failed to meet them. When Miser got in trouble for fighting a bully, his father started beating him, resulting in the royal guards arresting him.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Zig-zagged with him and the original Scrooge. Both of them are very rich men who hate Christmas/Hearth's Warming, with Miser scoffing at it for the tragedies that happened to him during the holiday. However, it's revealed Miser actually is not completely stingy, meaning that at least he starts better than Scrooge. Nevertheless, he doesn't change at all from what he was in the end.
  • Catchphrase: "Bah! Humbug!"
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: Antagonizing the very people he'd just insulted after he was accused of vandalism really didn't do Stash any favors. Innocent or not, he really should have known better than to give everyone more reasons to suspect him.
  • Freudian Excuse: He had an abusive father growing up who sent him to a boarding school to get rid of him and later beat him for fighting back against a bully. Many years later, his fiancée died before the Hearth's Warming where they were supposed to get married and years after that, his boss (who had adopted him after his father arrested) was killed in a robbery that was also during Hearth's Warming.
  • Informed Kindness: The narrative attempts to paint him as nicer than his source inspiration; however, his actions contradict said narrative on several occasions:
    • Though all the spirits go on about all the good things he's done, Miser Stash goes out of his way to be as unpleasant and rude to anyone enjoying the holidays as possible, greatly contradicting their statements, with him even going as far as to make this claim:
Miser Stash: “If I could work my will… Any fool that goes about wishing me a Happy Hearths[sic] Warming, would be BAKED with their cakes, and wrapped up and shipped far, far away!”
    • While it is stated that he regularly donates to charity, whether or not he does this out of the goodness of his heart is rather dubious considering the fact that the first time we see him doing it is simply to get rid of Twilight and her friends, after which he rudely dismisses them, similar to Talon Ted.
  • It's All About Me: While it's one thing to not enjoy the holidays, he takes it a step too far by outright insulting everyone who attended the festival for no reason other than he could, and then when called out on it, he brushes it off like he's justified in doing so. He also litters out of spite.
  • Not Helping Your Case: After he openly insults everyone at the Hearth's Warming Festival, he immediately snaps at them when he's blamed for the tree's destruction instead of simply calming down and explaining that in spite of his earlier outburst, he would never resort to vandalism.
  • The Scrooge: Downplayed. He does play the role of Scrooge, and he is a rich stallion who hates the equivalent of Christmas. However, there are two differences. The spirits visit Twilight, not him, so he doesn't change, and he is not consumed by avarice, but rather anger and bitterness.

The Three Spirits of Hearth's Warming

A trio of spirits who harassed Twilight in her dreams.

  • Adaptational Villainy: They're supposed to represent the Ghost's of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, however they target Twilight instead of Stash and basically gaslight her into feeling sorry for him.
  • Devil's Advocate: Their main role in the story is to show Miser Stash's Freudian Excuse and explain to Twilight how it justifies him in acting like a Jerkass and hating Hearth's Warming.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: They take the forms of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
  • The Gods Must Be Lazy: They'd rather shame and harass a known hero instead of getting a bitter man to reflect on his attitude.
  • Insane Troll Logic: The future they show Twilight has her abandoned by all of her friends and being treated as a social pariah over a mistake she made, implying that her attitude is worse than Stash's by comparison and will lead to this. This is not only a huge load of bull, but also has them ignoring the numerous times she's saved Equestria from certain destruction and has gone out of her way to help many individuals time and time again, while Stash in comparison is rude and unpleasant to nearly anyone who tries to be nice to him. Additionally, they state that this is what will happen if she doesn't fix things but when she wakes up, Miser has already been released from jail, meaning that there was zero chance of it happening, unlike in the source material.
  • Light Is Not Good: Despite being spirits sent to help, they gaslight and harass Twilight with their visions, with the final one showing her an (impossible) Bad Future.
  • Protagonist-Centered Morality: They claim to be teaching Twilight a lesson for her actions; however, in reality, they're simply victim-blaming her.
  • Skewed Priorities: Instead of visiting Stash in his dreams and convincing him to change his jerkish attitude and improve his life for the better, they target Twilight over a simple mistake that anyone could have made.
  • Unreliable Narrator: They try to paint Stash as a misunderstood loner with a heart of gold; however, they also go out of the way to excuse his jerk-ass behavior and never once call attention to how he could have handled his own situation much better.

Love and Disparage

    Courier

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Whilst living in Canterlot, he was desperate to find love and romance. One day, he met Princess Cadance (actually Queen Chrysalis), who gave him an enchanted rose that made him more attractive and gave him the gift of passion and sensitivity to write beautiful poetry that would charm any pony. Unfortunately, there was a side effect that if he came into contact with a "a creature of great love" or someone who loved him, he and them would both be drained of energy to the point of death.
  • Bully Hunter: Using his abilities given to him by his magical suit, he targets ponies who reject other ponies' affection and make fun of their love lives and cuts their manes down the middle to publicly humiliate them. This is due to his own experiences with bullies he faced in school.
  • Driven to Suicide: After being arrested, he decides to kill himself by grabbing Cadance so that her love magic sets off the curse and vaporises him.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: He used to wear glasses, have braces and was slightly overweight which made him a target for bullies and got him frequently rejected. After graduating, he got contact lenses, had liposuction and no longer needed braces. In the present, he has multiple mares all wanting to date him.

    Violet

  • Reformed Bully: When Violet was in high school, she was a notorius bully, especially to Courier. After she graduated, guys didn't want to date her because of her reputation and this led her to become regretful of her past actions and move to Ponyville to start a new life. She soon developed feelings for Courier when he came to Ponyville as well, but unfortunately for her, he's still angry about what she did to him and wants nothing to do with her.

    Queen Chrysalis

  • Greater-Scope Villain: Despite never appearing in the story, she is partly to blame for Courier's actions.
  • Stupid Evil: Chrysalis cursed Courier to never find love or else he would die, and said curse can't be lifted without killing him. There is no reason for her to make a curse like that since she feeds on love. If anything, she'd get more out of Courier by simply transforming into Cadance and manipulating him into writing for her while feeding off his love.

Nine & Eleven

    Silver Nickle

  • Abusive Parents: Her parents were extreme workaholics who wanted to force their views onto their daughter. They routinely swamped her with large amounts school work and chores and later tested a machine on her so that she would be completely unable to enjoy having fun.
  • Asshole Victim: A Bad Boss who tried to kill a lot of ponies in an act of spite. She ends up the only one dying.
  • Bad Boss: To epic proportions. Simply smiling at her is enough reason for her to fire an employee on the spot, yet somehow she still manages to run a successful business despite likely having a worker turnover rate that makes Darth Vader look forgiving.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Silver Nickle killed her parents after they used a machine on her that made her unable to enjoy having fun and that required her to routinely take a Psycho Serum to survive.
  • Taking You with Me: After telling her story to Twilight, she activates a Self-Destruct Mechanism in her office to blow up her building and kill herself alongside everyone else inside. Fortunately, all the ponies are able to escape and she's the only casualty.

Hearth's Warming I'll Never Forget

    Moondancer

  • Calling the Old Woman Out: In the climax of Hearth's Warming I'll Never Forget, Moondancer confronts her mother after she leaves the party and calls her out for how badly she's treated her, Twilight and their friends. Luna Light is unmoved and when Moondancer refuses to back down, she attacks her.

    Luna Light
Moondancer's mother.
  • Callousness Towards Emergency: Going off of her speech, she thinks that the villains the heroes have faced were never a threat and just a bunch of weaklings anyone could overcome... ignoring the fact that among those villains were an Alicorn and a Changeling who defeated Princess Celestia, a reality warper, a tyrant king who took over an entire empire twice , and a beast from Tartarus capable of stealing magic. With this in mind, it calls into question if she was simply outside of Equestria when these villains showed up.
  • Child Hater: Her hatred of Twilight goes back to when she was still a filly and got chosen to be Princess Celestia's student over Moondancer.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Disowned her daughter just because she became friends with Twilight Sparkle, an action she treats as some sort of unspeakable crime.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Her delusional mindset of how powerful the heroes of Equestria and the villains they faced are is embarrassingly inaccurate.
  • Entitled Bitch: Seems to believe that her abusive treatment of her own daughter is justified simply because she hates Twilight.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Somehow believes that every single villain that nearly dominated Equestria was simply a weakling.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: She first started to hate Twilight when she got chosen to be Princess Celestia's student instead of Moondancer. Given how she treats Moondancer in the story, she seems to care less about her daughter losing the opportunity for her own sake and more about not being able to ride off of her daughter's success.
  • Guilt by Association: She makes it very clear that she despises anyone remotely connected to the Princess of Friendship.
Luna Light: "I will never bow to you, respect you, or see you in any positive light! ...AND THAT GOES FOR ANY OF YOU WHO ARE THE LEAST BIT AFFILIATED WITH THIS CREATURE!!"
  • Hypocrite:
    • She accuses the characters of being ignorant due to them never having gone through many hardships in their lives, ignoring several points when they faced major threats to Equestria and nearly lost everything.
    • She accuses Twilight of sticking her nose in situations that are none of her business; however, two of the things she called Twilight out for is lying to Celestia about her terrible acting and banning the CMC from her school, the events of which were not only resolved before any major damage was done, but were also none of Luna Light's business.
    • She calls Rarity a "vain snob" despite disowning her own daughter for vain reasons (one of which being her jealousy over Twilight's success), calls Rainbow Dash a "loudmouth" when she's hardly quiet about her disdain for Twilight, accuses Applejack "letting her work control her life" when she was perfectly happy to let her daughter's misery control her life, and accuses Fluttershy of being a "crazy psycho"... ignoring the fact that she herself disowned her own daughter just because she defended the Princess, which doesn't exactly make her look mentally healthy herself.
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: She accuses Twilight of being a control freak and forcing her opinions down other pony's throats, and claiming that they "can’t stand it when other creatures don’t share their views and prefer to do things their own ways". This is somewhat true given Twilight's tendency to complain and how she sometimes insists how things should be done. Additionally, several ponies make it clear they don't want her to try to help them change their lives (although they are clearly rude about it). However, while Twilight owns up to her faults, Luna Light ignores the fact she basically tried controlling her own daughter's life, forced HER views down Moondancer's throat by claiming she wasn't allowed to befriend Twilight, and disowned Moondancer when her daughter disobeyed her.
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance: Her lack of understanding of just how powerful the ponies she badmouths and their foes are is downright staggering:
    • She somehow believes that every villain that tried to dominate Equestria wasn't a real threat but just a weakling that anyone could beat, which is all sorts of incorrect when you realize that half of them could easily destroy Equestria with little effort.
    • She calls Twilight and her friends a group of frauds and claimed that Friendship isn't Magic but "just a feeling", despite knowing nothing about how the Elements of Harmony really work as well as the history behind their creation.
  • I Have No Daughter!: She disowned her daughter Moondancer for forgiving Twilight for not attending her party and not being bitter toward her for being highly successful.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Accuses Twilight and her friends of facing "a bunch of weak and insufferable bad guys that anyone could have overcome" when denouncing them as heroes of Equestria, ignoring the fact that most villains such as Nightmare Moon, Discord, Queen Chrysalis, King Sombra, and Tirek all could have easily killed her or any civilian, really making one wonder if she suffers from Suicidal Overconfidence.
  • It's All About Me: She disowned her own daughter for making amends with Twilight. Not because the Princess didn't come to her daughter's party, mind you, but simply because she hates her for personal, biased, and selfish reasons. Moondancer befriending the Princess was enough to warrant her disdain.
  • Jerkass: There's a reason the narration describes her as "a horrible pony with a bad attitude" in her last appearance.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: If her poorly thought-out speech is anything to go by, she seems to believe her knowledge about how the Magic of Friendship works and how powerful the villains who threatened Equestria really are is absolute... when in reality, she's just completely delusional.
  • Oblivious to Her Own Description: Calls Twilight power-hungry, hypocritical, misguided, and ignorant, all traits that are more accurate descriptions of her.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: The entirety of her speech really highlights just how ignorant she is regarding ponies she's judging.
  • Selective Obliviousness: Her belief that the villains Twilight and her friends defeated were weaklings that anyone could defeat invokes this trope.
  • Ungrateful Bitch: To the point where gratitude is apparently a foreign concept to her:
    • She despises Twilight Sparkle to the point where she disowned her own daughter for associating with the Princess, completely ignoring the fact that it was because of Twilight making amends with Moondancer that helped her daughter become healthily social again.
    • Claims that Twilight is unworthy of being ruler of Equestria and accuses her and the rest Elements of Harmony of being frauds, stating that most of the villains they faced were "weak and insufferable bad guys that anyone could have overcome"... completely ignoring the fact that if the Elements of Harmony hadn't come together, Equestria would've been doomed along with its citizens, herself included.

Let's just NOT be friends

    Snapshot

Twilight in Therapy

    Dr. Cy Colt
  • Devil's Advocate: He takes the side of all of the problem ponies that Twilight tells him about and insists that they were right in their actions and that Twilight was wrong to try and help them improve their miserable lives.
  • Hypocrite:
    • When Twilight insists that she doesn't need therapy, Cy gives a speech about how she should be willing to want to get help for her problems rather than being in denial. Later on, he doesn't see anything wrong with the problem ponies refusing to accept Twilight's help to improve their lives.
    • When talking about Stone Heart, Twilight tells him to not justify his behaviour and Cy says that he won't. He then proceeds to continue justifying not only Stone Heart's behaviour, but also the behaviour of all the other problem ponies that Twilight told him about.
  • Remember the New Guy?: He was Princess Celestia's own therapist and the two have been close friends for years. His therapy advice was also what inspired Celestia to take on Twilight as her personal student. This story is the first time Twilight and the reader ever hear of him.
  • Tranquil Fury: Whilst he never shouts at or scolds Twilight when she gets agitated by him, there are moments she feels that he means to.

Death to Twilight

    Goldie Star & Silver Star
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Whilst the Star Sisters don't succeed in their plan of killing Twilight and Spike, both of them escape and Starlight notes that even if they find them, the two can't be prosecuted for their crimes as they were committed outside of Equestria's borders. Meanwhile, both Twilight and Spike have been traumatized by their actions and now live in constant fear that the two will return for them.
  • Honor Before Reason: They give Twilight Big Bill's pay check for the hotel because they feel ashamed of having to sell their family's business, even though the two now both have no job and would need the money.
  • Never My Fault: The two both blame Twilight for their hotel being run into the ground and their lives being ruined, but really they were far more responsible for that.
    • When Twilight learns of the twins' plight, it's established that the hotel was losing money before Twilight intervened. Whilst it's possible the two may have been able to recover on their own, it's pretty hypocritical of them to blame Twilight for poorly running the hotel when they weren't doing much better.
    • When the twins do sell the hotel, they lash out at Twilight because her ideas are what caused it to fail. This despite the fact that they both knew what Twilight's ideas were before she implemented them and they both agreed to them despite their own misgivings about them.
    • Finally, they blame Twilight for wrecking their lives which lead to them having to become bandits. They actually received a large check from Big Bill when he bought their hotel which they could've used to rebuild or find new jobs, but they rejected it out of pride. They also moved out of Equestria just because they hate Twilight and ended up in the desert by Klugetown.
  • Would Hurt a Child: They include Spike in their revenge scheme against Twilight and try to murder him alongside her.
