The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Find a Trope:
openAll apocalypses have red skies
Sometimes a work makes the sky red to show it's really the apocalypse. Some might say it gives Nightmare Fuel.
openMade of Scrap and Junk
The device or robot was made of scrap and junk. Bonus points if it obviously looks as such.
openI Don't Know How I Did That
A character does something rather amazing, but when asked how they did it, the character says "I don't know how I did that." or, "It just sort of happened!" The character may try to justify it by saying "I had no control over that."
Another example would be a character escaping from a collapsing building. When freed, they're asked how they survived. "I honestly have NO idea", they respond.
openTrivia trope for RealLifeWritesThePlot?
I'm trying to find a Sub-Trope of Real Life Writes the Plot for when budget cuts of a normally high-budget work affect the quality of a work aesthetically and in terms of special effects, even if quality of the Story Arc remains high-quality. This is for these pages:
- Supergirl (2015)
- The Flash (2014)
- Holby City (from Christmas 2017 to present, especially as some of the fandom believe budget cuts contribute to Seasonal Rot)
- Doctor Who (some of Matt Smith's episodes and the incumbent Thirteenth Doctor's series, anyway)
- Marvel Cinematic Universe
- Police, Camera, Action! (1997 episode Out of Control and episodes made in 1999, aired in 2000)
I don't think it's No Budget or Bottle Episode so what trope would fit before I add it to Trivia pages of these works?

A character who is not especially clumsy makes several clumsy actions to further the plot.
openInfidelity Trope
What trope covers people getting back at cheating lovers by breaking their car, using their credit card, moving out of the house when they're at work, etc?
openShut up, I'm talking about your death.
Does anyone know that trope where someone is outwardly stating sad stuff about someone they think is dead, gone, or lost forever and the person is standing right next to them, a few feet away from them, behind them, etcetera?
The person will either not notice them, AKA they will not hear them despite them being like "Uh, I'm here?" over and over until many seconds have passed and their brain catches up.
Or, and this also happens, they don't...believe it's them, like they'll be talking about person X and person X says "Uh, I'm here?" but the other person is like "Shut up, I'm not done!" and continue and it takes like forever for them to realize it anyway until someone else points it out or the gag goes on for too long.
There's also a couple weird ones like the one in Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure or something where Tinkerbell is talking about Terence on the mirror and she thinks that he's only in the mirror because she wished to see him, despite the fact that the mirror has ran out of wishes and Terence is, in fact, in the room with her and just being reflected on the mirror because duh it's a mirror. And she's all like "I wish you were ACTUALLY here with me." and he's like bruh I am here with you I'm literally right behind you. I think this is a subset of the above since they tend to mix a lot.
I think these are the flavors I remember most but there are more.
I'm not really looking to make a trope unless really necessary, it's more that I haven't seen this one yet and it's really bugging me out in case I need to list it, so if anyone knows what would be a good similar thing that'd be great. I'm really bad at finding stuff.
Side note: this is pretty random but I'm kind of annoyed that there's heartwarming, sad, funny, and scary moments but no anger inducing moments. That'd be pretty great and would mix up things a bit IMO. Like why are we leaving that poor emotion out? ;_; Anyway that's all, I'm done.
Edited by The_Raven21openNo Such Thing As Low Orbit
In softer sci-fi, spaceships taking off or landing are either shown in the lower atmosphere (no more than a few miles up) or far enough away that the entire planet shows up in the background (thousands to hundreds of thousands of miles up). They're never in the upper atmosphere or low orbit (tens to hundreds of miles up).
Examples: pretty much all of Star Wars
open"If I can't have (insert cool thing here), no one should be able to"
What's the trope for when some Spoiled Brat or other selfish asshole villain thinks if they can't have some thing that they want, no one should be allowed to (and usually want to destroy it or ban it somehow.)
Edited by Bootlebatopenhero re-encounters a dead villain in hell
Is there a trope for when the hero kills a villain, then later has to travel to Hell (or the setting's equivalent)and meets them again? The only example I can think of is on Titan Quest, where in the Expansion Pack Immortal Throne, you have to travel to Hades and at one point you encounter Typhus (an evil titan who was the Big Bad in the original game) in an undead-like form that's more powerful than before and have to destroy him again.
Edited by BootlebatopenAnimal shown in an establishing shot of environment
When some characters are entering a new environment, a random animal (usually small) is shown, generally either before we see the characters enter the camera or when the characters are passing it. In the former scenario, the animal often flees when the characters approach.
openCollectible card items Videogame
It's a semi-common thing to have trading cards as collectibles (Super Paper Mario's Catch Cards and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy's CollectaCards come to mind) in games, usually for 100% completion. Is there a specific trope that applies to games with a system like that, besides Gotta Catch 'Em All ?
Edited by Rex-Blanchimont-ZEROopenJoining the Gang
A random outsider interrupts the gang that is currently going on an adventure complete with background music. It pauses when the gang bumps into the random outsider, then resumes after the outsider joins the party.
Alternatively, the main gang is going on an adventure complete with background music, yet they keep getting interrupted or sidetracked while music keeps playing and pausing.
Do we have a trope for this?
Edited by KingOfStickersopenUsing Wish-granting as a Means of Exchange
In a fantasy setting, soldiers working for angels (literally—the Biblical ones to be exact) were effectively paid by wish-granting; the enemies an individual subjugates are abstracted into points, and on retirement the sum of the points determine the power of the wishes the angels will grant. Is there a trope that describes this? I don't think any of the Wishing Tropes count, with maybe the exception of Bargain with Heaven.
openFridge Humor
I'm just trying to understand why this isn't a trope yet. Does it fall under Fridge Brilliance or is there some other reason for it?
open"The dose makes the poison"
Is there a trope for the maxim that "The dose makes the poison" as explained here? I could see Weaksauce Weakness covering the "safe things can be dangerous if you consume to much" part, but what about the other side? E.G if you consume a minuscule enough amount of cyanide or arsenic it wont hurt you a bit (there's probably some in your body right now.)
Edited by BootlebatopenDivine incest is fine
Incest is totally cool if you're a god (i.e. Zeus marrying his sister Hera)
The opposite of A Form You Are Comfortable With.
