Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tup] to Brainer, [tdown] to Dragon.

Alright with all the CSI candidates flooding the forum, I thought I EP one from that show myself. Now I watched this episode awhile back and after watching again on Hulu, and thanks to miraculous for point this guy out I decided to EP him. From the Season 13 episode "CSI on Fire" I give you all Tom Cooley.

Who Is He? What Has He Done?

Tom Cooley is a Serial Rapist who usually targets attractive female blonds in their 20s. He would pick them up in bars and near his offices where he would drug them before taking them to his ranch to rape. After raping these women he would also strangle them to death before dumping their corpses.

He has murdered and killed at least eight women, where it would also be revealed that he and his two friends Max Liston and Gavin Pearson ganged raped another woman Marla Louie when they were teenagers, an tried to kill her by burying her alive before she managed to escape. Marla Louie was also the first person Tom has ever raped.

Though Tom was first charged with these rapes and murders by Julie Finlay in Seattle, the charges were dropped due to Julie illegally breaking into Tom’s home to obtain evidence to convicted. Tom then made sure to dispose of any evidence first by digging up all his victims and re-bury them at a land preserve at Nevada, then kills Max Liston in a Scuba Diving accident to make sure that Max can’t be used against him.

However all of Tom’s victims would be discovered at the land preserve and to case against him was re-open, with Julie being determined to successfully convict him this time.

However Tom would be killed by his lawyer Gavin Pearson, to save his own ass (whether it be Tom trying to kill him like he did to Max or the authorities connecting Gavin to Tom’s crimes). Luckily the CSI people manages to obtain evidence proving Gavin’s guilt for killing Tom and being apart of Tom’s crimes, while Tom rots in hell for what he’s done

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?

Okay so Tom came from a wealthy family in Seattle, that’s about it. And no Tom doesn’t care about his “friends” merely using them to help himself and was willing to kill one of them to eliminate a witness against him and would most likely kill Gavin if Gavin didn’t kill To first, if Gavin failed at his job of being his lawyer and covering for him. Yeah, no excuses nor redeeming qualities here.

Heinousness

Tom Cooley’s crimes are pretty unique on CSI as he a raped at least 9 women (rape is a pretty rare crime here) killed 8 of these women by strangling them to death (slow and painful death) would have killed the other woman hadn’t she not escape, and killing one of his friends in a scuba accident just to eliminate a witness against them.

There also Max and Gavin who took part in the Marla’s gang rape orchestrated by Tom and would cover his future rapes and murders for him, but they don’t count since Max doesn’t even appear onscreen, while Gavin’s only unique crime was killing Tom, aka the serial rapist/killer I just effort posted. So yeah I think Tom is heinous enough to count.

Final Verdict?

I’ll leave it to you guys

I think it was a pageant director/coordinator that took kids to an abandon movie to molest them. Don't remember the name, just that the same situation with Otis happened, where he's hanging off a ledge, but instead of Horatio saving him he instead lets him fall to his death.

What is the Work?

The Guns of the South is an Alien Space Bats Alternate History story written by Harry Turtledove in which a group of mysterious travelers under the name of an organization called AWB come from the future to help the South win the American Civil War.

Who is he and What has he done?

Andries Rhoodie is a time traveler from South Africa and leader of the Neo-Nazi group AWB. After stealing a time machine Rhoodie plots to ensure the Confederacy's survival as a way to prop up white supremacy for generations. Arriving from 2014 to 1864 and setting up shop in Rivington, North Carolina, Rhoodie furnishes the Confederate armies with tens of thousands of AK-47s, and shares detailed plans of Union troop movements, strategies, tactics, and defenses, leading to a punishing Union defeat and the Confederacy securing its independence. During the war Rhoodie begins to show his true colors by urging General Robert E Lee to have any black Union soldiers executed on capture, but ultimately cannot convince him, causing the first rift between his group and the South.

After the war, Rhoodie and his group buy large amounts of black slaves, and proceed to treat them horrifically, viciously whipping them for little to no reason, keep them near-starved while forcing them to do petty tasks, and occasionally rape the women. When Kentucky and Missouri hold a post-war vote to decide whether to join the Confederacy or stay with the Union, Rhoodie has some of his associates set out to these states to conduct voter intimidation and suppression to get them swing to the South, though the plot is foiled.

When 1867 starts to roll around the corner, Robert E Lee runs on a platform of gradual emancipation for slaves, recognizing that the South's position will become untenable if it tries to keep slavery alive, Rhoodie is infuriated. He backs Lee's opponent, Nathan Bedford Forrest, who promises to keep slavery alive and well, and crack down on any hint of resistance with brutal force. When Lee wins, Rhoodie goes off the deep end. Organizing a hit squad armed with Uzis and bullet-proof vests, Rhoodie sends the men to kill Lee and destroy the Confederate government, culminating in the "Richmond Massacre", in which Lee survives, but dozens (the text suggests over a hundred) of politicians, generals, and innocent bystanders are killed in the attack, including Lee's wife. From then on, AWB wages war against the Confederacy, and while they're a small group, their massive technological advantage allows them to inflict thousands of casualties on Confederate armies. It is not enough for them to win, though, and Rhoodie and his men are cornered, their time machine destroyed, and the few remaining left alive surrender.

Rhoodie is then promptly killed by a severaly emaciated slave he owned and tortured.

Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Like Hell. Values Dissonance is no excuse, since not only are Rhoodie and his fellows from 2014, where issues related to race are far more enlightened, but they're noted by the text to be far more brutal than the average Southern slave owner and most people are disgusted at how poorly AWB treats their slaves.

The only other thing I could think of are two potential Pet the Dog moments he has with Lee, but they're both ruined. The first time, Rhoodie gives Lee medication to deal with his heart problems, but later on tries to use the pills as leverage to get Lee to be harsher against blacks (and later he tries to kill Lee when he can't get what he wants). The second time he offers to help Lee's wife overcome her disability, but not only is this explicitly supposed to be leverage in context, but not two minutes before he was trying to threaten Lee into submission instead, and furthermore has her killed in the Richmond Massacre. If he actually cared, he would've helped Lee and his wife out a lot earlier (ignorance is no excuse since he has a shitload of history books he hoarded to help the South win).

Heinous Standard?

This is where things get interesting. Rhoodie helps the Confederacy out to preserve the institution of slavery and to create a bastion of white supremacy for the world, where blacks are a permanent underclass, so that's a big scale. He personally tortures and enslaves black people, so that's another strike, and when he doesn't get his way causes the deaths for a rather large amount of people, including random civilians. I'd say all this is enough to push him over the edge and give him a bit of uniqueness.

Final Verdict?

[tup] Tom and Andries.

So... I spent the last several hours since my last post reevaluating the original Clive Barker's Hellraiser comics in its entirety. Chaos-lover Edward Leverett is an unfortunate Cut, even if all the anarchism makes him unique in the setting, he's nowhere near as bad as Arturo "Boss of Hell on Earth" Velez and the guy who drove women to suicide for fun, excluding a Serial Killer with dozens of victims to his name who's too crazy to count, among several other murderers; Arturo, Stalker and Taylor all Keeps. I'll probably discuss a potential candidate later, now I just need some sleep...

Say, for NUMB3RS, which has 3 Serial Rapists, could all 3 count? They're the only serial rapists (I think there MAY have been 1 or 2 other rapists) in nearly 120 episodes.

One more He-Man related EP from me

What's the work?

The New Adventures of He-Man is a 65 episode cartoon series, based on a not very long line of new He-Man toys (there was also a four part minicomic miniseries based on the toy line, from where I covered Skeletor). The premise of the setting is that He-Man and Skeletor got transported into the future, where the war is going on between remnants of humanity on the planet Primus and Evil Mutants of Denebria. As He-Man joins the Galactic Guardians in protecting Primus, while Skeletor becomes right hand of the leader of Evil Mutants of Denebria, called Flogg.

There is one candidate I really want to talk about here is one and only - Skeletor.

Who is Skeletor?

As always, a powerful sorcerer with a skull for a head, Skeletor is the archenemy of He-Man, who constantly tries to conquer Eternia and destroy He-Man. When members of Galactic Guardians (protectors of Primus), Hydron and Flipshot, from the future travel to the past in search for a hero, who could help them defeat Flogg and his mutants, Skeletor tries to pose as that hero, in order to use their technology for his own gain. When He-Man reveals his ruse, the battle ensures and as a result of it both Skeletor and He-Man are brought along to the future on the planet Primus, with Skeletor escaping and entering in servitude of Flogg, in order to destroy He-Man and conquer Primus for himself, ultimately planning to betray the mutants.

Creating many plans to lower Primus' shields in order to let the mutants take over the planet, Skeletor constantly put up with the stupidity of mutants, openly hating them (with Citra being the exception and only then he interacted with her very rarely and only was happy with her, when she succeeds in carrying off his plans), but for most of the time trying to be polite to them. While many of his plans were generic "Conquer Primus and destroy He-Man and the Galactic Guardians" (so I won't bother listing them all), few of his intentions do stand out:

In one of the few 5 part storylines in cartoon, Skeletor and Flogg succeed in conquering Primus and immediately begin oppressing people there. When He-Man starts a resistance, Skeletor follows him to the village and when He-Man offers to surrender in exchange for the lives of the villagers, Skeletor openly admits that he's going to destroy the whole village and all of its population anyway, for daring to support He-Man.

In the finale of this 5 part arc, Skeletor used the tractor beam on Mutant Mothership to rise the big city of Levitan (which kept itself in the skies with a technology) close to the cosmos (deactivating their technology, that keeps them afloat) and threatens to drop it to the planet, which would destroy entire city and thousands of its people, if He-Man won't surrender. When He-Man did surrender, Skeletor whispers to him that he plans to destroy Levitan anyway and he is happy that He-Man will die with the knowledge that citizens of Levitan will soon follow him. That leads to He-Man freeing himself and leading people of Levitan into chasing Skeletor and the mutants of their city and since He-Man managed to reprogram tractor beam, Skeletor tries to drop Levitan, only for Mothership to malfunction and restore Levitan technology and fly off the planet, ending mutant rule there.

In "Crack in the World" Skeletor tricks scientists of Primus to create a dangerous substance called Energon, which melts and transforms entire planets into energy sun, and has them bring it on Primus. As Energon starts to melt down parts of the planet, He-Man offers his life to Skeletor in exchange for helping people of Primus to escape from the planet. Skeletor initially agrees (before that he hinted that he will go back on his promise) and tries to kill He-Man, only for He-Man to figure out a way to stop Energon and save Primus anyway.

In "Escape from Gaolotia" Skeletor and the mutants discover the prison ship "Gaolotia" in space and freed all the criminals there. After luring He-Man and the Galactic Guardians there, Skeletor attached the magnetic generator to the ship to lure a comet on it, planning to escape, while the comet will destroy Galactic Guardians and all of the prisoners and mutants there (Citra included). Citra overhears this and tells Flogg about this, leading to Skeletor being forced to help all mutants escape (as they blocked his escape path).

In "Collision Course" Skeletor steals the plans for a gravity generator and builds one of his own, planning to move the planet Primus from its orbit and destroy all life on there.

In "Cold Freeze" one of the three suns of Primus goes behind an ice shell to regenerate, leading to Primus starting to freeze. As He-Man tries to find ore to power up the machine to give Primus enough heat, Skeletor thwart his attempt, trying to force Primus to surrender to him and the mutants in exchange for their ore.

In "The Running of the Herd" Skeletor and Flogg take over the planet Equinos, as one of the Galactic Guardians, Sagitar (whose race evolved from horses), needs to return there to run with the herd or else he dies. Threatening its people with total annihilation, Skeletor plans to ambush Galactic Guardians there, intending on assisting Flogg in destruction of the planet afterwards anyway.

After fighting with Galactic Guardians above the planet Zil, Skeletor lands on the planet with the mutants, when their tornado shield goes down, starting on causing chaos and destruction there, solely to lure out He-Man.

Deciding to focus on conquer of the other planets of Tri-Solar Galaxy to cut off the supply line from Primus, Skeletor starts from the planet Danzig, threatening to destroy it's people, only for He-Man to thwart him once again.

In the finale, he assists Flogg in attack on Primus, while He-Man and the Galactic Guardians were tapped on another planet, and when Flogg surrenders and holds a peace treaty with Primus, Skeletor teleports He-Man and Mara to ruins in a middle of nowhere and fights He-Man, while Citra fights Mara. As both were defeated, they were shoved in an escape pod and trapped there, as He-Man throws them into Cosmos to travel for eternity (as he takes away Skeletor's magic staff). Skeletor then promises to have his revenge.

Heinousness?

The most heinous villain in the whole series, due to him being the "brains" of mutant army and the one, who constantly creates plans for them to conquer or destroy Primus. There is another villain in the series, who said to destroy a planet, but it was all offscreen, with the villain being very generic in all of his on screen deeds.

Otherwise, most of the villains in the series are trying to conquer planets, but Skeletor is the only one, who tried to destroy Primus several times, intended on wiping out the villages and cities during his short takeover of the planet, planning to wipe out billions and had caused chaos and destruction on several other planets as well. Plus, he tried to kill the whole mutant army at least once. That's enough to stand out in this children's cartoon.

Mitigating Qualities?

None that holds up for me. His rumored "genuine relationship with Citra" is very weak, with Skeletor rarely interacting with her and even then he dances with her, only when she successfully carried out his plan and all the rest of his interactions with her consisted of giving her orders and light flirting (half of which consists of Skeletor praising himself). Him trying to left her to die with the rest of mutant army in "Escape from Gaolotia" only enforces that Skeletor has no real care for her and when she succeeds in becoming Queen of the Gleanons, all Skeletor feels is being frustrated that she conquered territory before he was able to (wishing that he himself go to the Gleanons instead).

Conclusion?

I will say Yes.

[up] [up]Depends, if they all seem unique enough among themselves they can probably qualify especially if they are the only 3 rapist in the show. Like if one of them had only 1 victim, but did it for years, while another had a double digit number of victims.

I was considering putting Edwin, but I wonder if the implication of him being molested as a child to would disqualify him? I mean considering he's been doing the exact same thing to multiple little girls for years, I think he's pass the excuse. My only other issue is we only see two victims on-screen, although it is confirm by his wife and the investigation that he definitely had more victims. Considering the length of time he's been doing this, it wouldn't surprise me if he might have the highest victim count in the show.

If it's clear he was molested, I'd be iffy voting him up.

As for Numb3rs: One has 12-13 victims (and a murder or 2); one has become a Serial Killer (I'll have to see how many he raped); the third is a cop with 7+ victims (played by a rather surprising guest star).
