During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Check, and also a note added in.

I'm late to the party, but I support cutting William Stryker. That description sounds way too much like Patrick Zala, another genocidal douche motivated by paranoia and the death of his wife, and who does not count.
Support keeping Shaw.
Orlok is a bastard for its own sake, as far as we can tell.
Wesker does honestly seem to have been friends with Birkin in the backstory, but that was a long, long time ago, and it isn't part of his characterisation by the time of the later games.
Especially by RE 5 where he sheds all mortal attachments to fancy himself a God
Alright, Wesker stays, and I'll delete all but Luca and Neclord.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsAlready done. I took care of all the YMMV stuff for the new entries/rewrites, too.
]
If http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Ezekiel_Daun is accurate, Daun sure seems like a keeper.
And for Suikoden 2, I think we can just have Luca and Neclord and link to them on the main Suikoden page.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI agree that Wesker's friendship with Birkin becomes irrelevant after the latter's death. I also don't buy that he cared about the other members of S.T.A.R.S.
Please see my sig. A few more entries still need slight cleanup/rewrite (that can wait though; there are like 15 changes I requested ). And then Visual Novels. Good lord the Ace Attorney section is a giant mess. Higurashi needs slight cleanup as well, as does Umineko.

CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsHey, ACW, I'm doing research on the Video Game entries, here's what I have:
- Alter A.I.L.A. brings us Psycho for Hire Red, who joins The Empire simply because it's the strongest of the factions and allows him to direct his bloodlust at the Imperialists' targets. An Axe-Crazy lunatic who favors strength above all else, Red spends the game brutally murdering or attempting to murder everyone in his path and has designs on the throne himself. He aims to backstab the Imperials and take over himself before reigning as The Caligula.
- Old King of Armored Core 4A is a member of the group Orca, and sticks out amidst a group of Well-Intentioned Extremist types in that he's a genocidal Omnicidal Maniac who simply wants to kill everyone in the colonies For the Evulz. In his worst moment, he tricks the hero into destroying one of the colonies for him which brings about 100 million deaths.
- Wiseman of Baten Kaitos is a raging psychopath, with a purely sadistic edge and a Lack of Empathy for all living beings. Wiseman, a millennium before the series began, began to believe existence of the body was flawed. He fell to evil and began devouring the energy of his followers before embarking on a war of conquest that look the lives of men, women and children. To spite a group of heroes who stood against him, Wiseman killed near everyone in their hometown, and left only two survivors. He attempted to convert the world to energy and absorb it within himself. Despite failing, Wiseman was not destroyed and possessed Verus and corrupted him. Wiseman manipulates all of verus's atrocities, causing mass death and even torture of his former lover. When forced to reveal himself, Wiseman declares his intents to devour the heroes' hearts and rule over their world for eternity.
Call of Duty...cut Waarabe. Cut Kravchenko and put Dragovich on the main page.
Cut Mot
Cut Alex, if someone wants him, they cna come in
I say add Vox as well unless someone can say why to cut

I added the entries to Film Monsters.
Two questions regarding folders for that page:
Should there be a number folder for entries like 8mm or 13 Assassins?
Also in the "Directors / Film in general" folder, should The Joker entries go there since they're listing two different incarnations?
Yeah, a numbers thing sounds good. Might be best for the Joker, too
- Complete Monster: Yurt the Silent Chief, who chooses to repay you for rescuing him from a cage by slaughtering multiple helpful NPCs in the Nexus before targeting you.
- Also, Mephistopholes, his boss, who will task you to assassinate many good-aligned NPCs.
Right: i'm going to vote that both get cut. This post will explain my feelings on why.
Apparently Mephistopheles is under orders to kill any who know the ways of Soul Arts in Boletaria in order to "keep the ancient rite a secret". She might be a Well-Intentioned Extremist, maybe not, but either way she's clearly just cog in a larger machine. I can't find much info on Yurt, but just like pretty much everyone else in that game who you meet outside of the Nexus, you barely learn anything about him before you have to kill him. I think that in a world as dark and grim as the Souls series takes place in, you'd have to do more than try to kill a few people to really stand out anyway.

No Souls examples count. The only ones who might are glossed over enormously by the game proper.
Perhaps it would be best to cut Movie William Stryker and add his crimes to the Moral Event Horizon page,I think we can agree he crossed that line in X2.
I heartily concur.
Cutting Souls examples.
Okay, so I was thinking of listing what entries are currently on the Film page but not on the sandbox, as sort of a checklist. Problem is the list would take about 43 bullet points...
What do you guys think? Should I just do it or should I wait until more entries have been cut or added to the sandbox?
I say list 'em. Let's get this done
Okay. Entries that are on the Film page but not the sandbox:
EDIT: List cleared

I think we can add Rhoda and Lorenzini
Add Li'L Ze
Add Frankenstein, Spica andThulsa Doom. simon Phoenix as well
Add Wild Bill, Johnny Wong, Stripe and Waingro. Kyung-Chul Jang as well
I'll do a new Kurgan rewrite:
- The Kurgan of Highlander is a terrifying Black Knight with Rape, Pillage, and Burn as his way of life. Introduced as a brutal warrior who kills The Hero Connor Macleod in battle. When he hunts down the now immortal Connor, the Kurgan takes the head of Connor's mentor Ramirez and believing Connor's wife Heather is Ramirez's lover, rapes her to cement his victory over Ramirez. Centuries later, the Kurgan is as brutal as ever who has no compunction killing innocents in his drive to be the last Immortal standing in The Game and even mocks Connor about the possibility that Heather enjoyed the rape when he learns she was Connor's wife.
New IT entry is incoming as well
Add the James Bond entries and the coming new ones
Add Wong hoi, Ivan Ooze, Duxton Chevalier, Barnes from Platoon and only Barnes, Dr. Royer-Collard
Add Roch Theriault, the Scarface examples, the Scream examples save Mrs. Loomis and Billy, add Uncle Bart and Vukmir. Add Wild Bill, too
Add Harry Roat, General Mapache, Silers and just cut his gang, the Zodiac when his new writeup comes, and Dr. Akkerman. Add Christian Szell
Expand or cut the rest.
Oh, another entry we qualified ages ago for film...Einon of Dragonheart...here's a quick one
- From Dragonheartwe have King Einon. At the film's start, Einon seems a youth in need of guidance by his wise mentor, but it is revealed that any honor Einon has is just a front to learn swordsmanship from Sir Bowen. After Einon finds his dying father, he simply attempts to wrench the crown out of the man's hands, showing what he will become. After being mortally wounded, Einon is saved only when a dragon shares his heart with him, linking their lives. As King, Einon taxes and woks the people without mercy and even orders a man's eyes put out with hot pokers for no real reason. Einon attempts to rape the man's daughter later and when his mother attempts to kill the dragon to stop Einon, Einon murders her with no remorse. While Bowen initially blames the dragon for Einon's change, it is revealed Einon was always a monster and the dragon shared his heart to try to change his nature.

This was on the YMMV page for Luther
- Complete Monster: Let's face it, Luther may be a short tempered and volatile cop who boarders on Knight Templar, but those he is up against are so very much worse. Cop killers, a needy genius who commits patricide, a satanist who bleeds his victims dry and a multiple murderer who kills women as a form of aphrodisiac.
This is bad. For one thing, it lists a bunch of characters without giving names or any real details. For another thing, it completely fails to take into account the nature of the show. Luther is about a hardcore Cowboy Cop who is willing to fake evidence and brutalise suspects to get what he wants. Better still his best friend (whether he wants her to be or not) is Alice Morgan (who may be the aforementioned "needy genius who commits patricide"): a malignant narcissist (Luther's diagnosis, not mine) who murdered her parents to see if she could get away with it, and is willing to commit many more murders in the name of "helping" Luther. Alice herself doesn't qualify on account of the fact that a) she genuinely cares about Luther, and b) her narcissism and sadism is played as a part of a mental disorder, with a degree of sympathy being awarded; the show makes no bones about the fact that her moral judgment is seriously impaired (as it is in the case of many real life psychopath, narcissists, and other antisocial personalities). That said, she certainly ratchets up the heinous bar, meaning that anyone else who wanted to qualify would have to cross some serious lines.

Shido still isn't listed, even though Lightysnake said (s)he'll add him.
Actually, Alex...Golden Sun: Dark Dawn gives a better explanation.
I like the rewrites (it's Baten Kaitos BTW). Question is, does Verus not count due to him being brainwashed?

just cut the grace dancing at the end and I'm fine with it being submitted for the Monster.Fan Fic page
