Actually, yeah, Popularity 180 could potentially be mistaken for referring to either going from positive to negative or negative to positive.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

If name suggestions are being taken, let me add an option to the list: "Popularity Peak to Popularity Abyss".

[up] Thanks, I added it.

I think I'll make the crowner now. Is that OK?

The crowner is looking pretty decisive IMO. Should we call?

Since this TRS thread is why I made the Disco Sucks TLP, I thought I should let you guys know there's a name crowner for it now due to name suggestions in the replies.

We also need to change the page quote. It's misleading and doesn't explain the trope at all. The discussion has been brought up in the quote discussion thread.

Subpages are usually moved to the new name with the old name being cutlisted.

However, the old name of the main page stays as a redirect if there are a lot of inbounds, and there certainly are in this case.

Edit: I moved over Laconic.Condemned By History, Quotes.Condemned By History, and Analysis.Condemned By History and cutlisted the old locations of those subpages. I also changed the wick on the Audience Reactions index and added the old name to YMMV Redirects.

Could Deader Than Disco become a disambiguation between the renamed item and the new "Disco Sucks" trope? Or is the redirect fine enough?

Also sorry to sandwich post but I have another question: does the point in the description about the work not counting if it's still in production still hold up under the broader definition? There are formerly popular genres that still exist but are now just considered Snark Bait, like the Mid-Review Sketch Show. Or more specifically, Channel Awesome is still a technically active company but is huge Snark Bait now and has been agreed to count under the definition before.

[up] I believe ongoing works are allowed for the trope, as that was on the crowner but did not get enough votes to reach consensus.

Let's go with the disambig.

I admit I suspect that Condemned by History will get a lot of weak examples in the future.

[up] Well, we already have a cleanup thread that can manage that, so at least we've got that.

I think the other issue with the "man on the street" test was that it was not consistently applied. I doubt the average person on the street could name half of the comic book examples, for instance. At least now we can say that something could be added if it was popular within its niche, which allows examples like that.

I don't think I've posted in the cleanup thread, but I do wonder if there have been cases of the "man on the street test" leading to an inverse Fan Myopia (Fan Hyperopia?) where the default position was to assume that a given work isn't very well known.

I'm just thinking out loud by saying this; I haven't read the thread in a while, and I don't know for a fact whether this has happened. I just recall that failure of the "man on the street test" was a common reason for deletions, and probably contributed to the wick count lowering to the point that we ended up having people wondering if it was Too Rare to Trope.
