Ban-Evader Reversion Thread
Please read the outline below before proceeding any further.Important Note: This thread is devoted to reverting the edits of Tropers who have repeatedly chosen to evade their bans and suspensions, since serial ban-evasion is an act which is by its very nature a display of untrustworthiness, the fact that some ban-evaders outright engage in vandalism or add false information notwithstanding.
Depending on how much of the pages can be salvaged, they will either be noted in the B.E.R.T. Watch-List, locked if necessary, or cut if unsalvageable.
Any Frequently Vandalized Pages will also be monitored for suspicious activity.
If you notice a page is primarily edited by a certain ban-evader and/or their socks, please bring your findings to this thread so that cleanup can commence.
Potentially valid examples added by ban evaders should be transferred to Ban-Evader Example Rewrites so they can be salvaged. Make sure to mention transferring examples to the sandbox in your edit reason so others who may be willing to rewrite are aware.
Handling General Ban-Evader Edits:
To paraphrase what is stated here and here:- Bad faith is not necessarily assumed with the contributions of first-time ban-evaders, and their contributions can simply be rephrased assuming they're accurate.
- Any serial (more than once) ban-evader cannot be taken at their word, so their contributions are subject to harsher scrutiny. Any verifiable examples can be reworded (especially if there are grammatical or formatting issues), but unverifiable, false, or otherwise prohibited edits are removed.
- Ban-evaders who deliberately contribute inaccurate or false information are able to have their contributions deleted with little hesitation.
- Rewording or reverting can be as simple as expanding on a ban-evader's existing edits, especially if it means adding sufficient context or trimming word cruft.
The subsequent portions of this section outline further how to handle different kinds of edits and contributions.
The following types of edits can be left alone to preserve wiki quality:
- Grammatical corrections.
- Spelling corrections.
- Formatting updates and corrections.note
- Crosswicked examples from other tropers.
- Indexing (if accurate).note
- Accurately written potholes.note
- Links to the correct Work/Recap/Instalment/Franchise page, including red-linked works.note
- Archive edits. (See here.)
- Launched Tropes.note
The following edits might need to be reworded in order to stay on the wiki, and depending on the examples, may need to be re-evaluated/verified in this thread or in the proper cleanup threads.
- Zero-Context Example expansion.
- Otherwise correctly formatted and valid edits.
The following edits should remain hidden until they can be verified, and deleted if proven inaccurate:
The following items must be sent to the cut-list/otherwise removed on principle (and if applicable, re-created by a trustworthy editor from scratch using a Sandbox):
- Pages created by ban-evaders using their socks.note
- Videos uploaded by ban evaders using their socks.note
- Please refrain from "popcorn posting". This means refraining making comments such as "man, they don't know when to quit", or otherwise unproductive posts.
- Please maintain an atmosphere of civility.
- Please do not withhold information about potential sock-puppetry or other ban-evasion related misconduct, as withholding such information makes one an accessory to ban-evasion.
- When reverting edits, please make notes in the sandboxes, and transfer any potentially valid edits to the appropriate sandbox.
- When reverting ban-evader edits, please use an appropriate (and civil) edit reason.
- Should you suspect a ban-evader has shown up in this thread, please do not make open accusations, trash-talk them, or engage in other uncivil behaviour. Quietly holler the post and wait for mod input; if necessary (especially if suspicious edits or issues unrelated to the forum are involved), make a query at "Ask The Tropers".
- Please respect the thread consensus once it has been established. If an item is resolved, it is usually resolved for a reason.
- If you have any suggestions for new policies, or wish to contest an old one, do it in the General Policy Discussion, not here.

It'd be great if you explained who you were talking about. Be warned that this sort of thing can be considered meatpuppeting.

So, uh... a certain someone just confessed to being a ban evader. Problem is they cultivated and launched two tropes: Bait-and-Switch Character Intro and The Hand Is God, both of which are already healthy and definitely exist (the former I was ironically enough planning on uploading a video for). What do?
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢That confession is no longer publicly visible, for the record. That said, I've bounced Mimic 1990.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanLooks like we're gonna have to clean up every last edit Mimic did, perhaps even unlaunch their tropes if it's necessary.
EDIT: Here's their editing history.

Re: Unlaunching tropes; at the very least, we need to rewrite the examples they made.
That is assuming we even need to. I suggest paging a mod for input, especially one who is active on TLP.
Edited by SkyCat32 on Feb 10th 2021 at 7:07:16 AM
Feels good, don't it?Both tropes seem valid. Maybe we can get someone to take care of them when we send then back to tlp.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Currently I am still awaiting input from the other staff members as to whether or not to send them back.
If the tropes are valid, I'd say at least sandbox some rewrites until I hear back about the pages.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI've listed some (but not all) of the pages Mimic edited in Ban-Evader Reversion and transferred two of his examples to Ban-Evader Example Rewrites. The last page I added was the one with the 5th Feb 21 08:59:20 timestampnote if anyone wants to step in after me. All I can say is that there's a lot of work ahead of us.
I disagree with the idea of unlaunching their tropes; the TLP is a community effort and once tropes launched they're no longer meant to be associated with the person who launched them. Cleaning up examples they wrote and stuff is one thing, but what would unlaunching things do?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessThat's fair, Jay. Unless there are other serious problems with the draft, there is no reason why we need to unlaunch or TRS otherwise valid tropes.
Feels good, don't it?I also disagree with unlaunching his tropes because doing so creates a lot of work with a reward that simply isn't worth it. Whether or not the trope descriptions should be rewritten is another matter—one that I'm currently neutral on. One more thing: Did Mimic confess to which handle he ban evaded as? If he attempts ban evasion again, that information sounds useful so we can track his editing habits better.
Knight9910 and wyrm...something.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Mimic's opus seems to be very long opinionated essays, usually political in nature, defending himself as a victim while playing the "I'm calm" card. So we should look out for language like that.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Yeah, looking at Knight's speeches on Edit Banned, it's obvious in hindsight.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSo taylorswiftscat added to Quotes. The New Tens, but because page history is really glitchy, I'm having a hard time telling what they actually did to the page, since there's one absolutely gigantic edit that seemingly changed most of the page.
Whether it's by yourself or with a group, is anyone willing to rewrite the trope descriptions Mimic launched? If you aren't willing to do it yourself, do you know some tropers who might?
Could the Trope Description Improvement Thread help out here?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Maybe? The problem is that the descriptions for Bait-and-Switch Character Intro and The Hand Is God were written by a ban evader, not that they're terrible. If you want to make a post there to enlist help, I won't object.
Alright everyone, Unicornia1 has been confirmed as a sock for banned editor TinyLittleLetters. Here’s the edit history. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the biggest issues are Tangled: The Series, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and Elena of Avalor, especially the character and recap pages.
Edited by STARCRUSHER99 on Feb 15th 2021 at 9:33:34 AM
It was nice seeing our old friend TinyLittleLetters again. So, I reverted some of the more obvious bash-y edits on Tangled; I hope I didn't go too far.
Our hero made an edit on YMMV.Tangled The Series that caused a bit of an edit war. What do we do about this entry?
Pinging ~AGT Magic & ~Neko Hybrid.
AGT, I appreciate that you are trying to reduce complaining on the wiki, but did you discuss the edit with Neko after the latter reverted it?
Neko, I do not know if you realize this, but the edits you saw fit to revert without an edit reason belonged to a ban-evader, and AGT was, if unwittingly, altering the BE's edit to the point that it would be permissible to leave it.
Let's discuss what you were both trying to accomplish, so that the thread knows how to proceed.
My mistake.

Feels good, don't it?About the Wangst entry—the ban evader didn't write it; all they did was transfer it, which was explained in this edit reason. Note that the addition here is the same.
I didn't know this was a thing, but I was redirected here by a kind user. Ok, the problem is that true, deleting his contributions may be part of the punishment - and I won't fight that, I'm not concerned with the guy. But there are other tropes and stuff that has been edited by other users getting caught into the crossfire. For example, the YMMV page for FFV had some stuff that was added by the user in question but edited and followed upon by others, and then deleted because of this. There's also some stuff that could simply be reworded or edited if there's such a problem with the user, because some tropes added by him were legit.
