Redirect discussion thread

It's the previous name, changed for having a bad case of trope-namer syndrome.

I just noticed that UnwinnableByMistake.Prince Of Persia is a redirect to UnintentionallyUnwinnable.Prince Of Persia, with the result that the Franchise/ page has two different header tabs that both lead to the same subpage. It looks like the entire namespace is only fifteen redirects. Is this wanted?

I'm once again asking if we can delete the And Now For Something Completely Different redirect. It attract more usage than Something Completely Different itself, which is bad since Something Completely Different is an index now.

It doesn't have that many inbounds and I think a year has passed since the cleanup so I am fine with cutting.

So, what do? Do I just cutlist it or do we need more discussion?

If it was brought up twice and no one objected, I think it's safe to cutlist. It doesn't have that many inbounds to justify saving it + attracts misuse.

Following on from the John le Carré disambig discussions elsewhere -

Film.The Quest For Karla is currently a redirect to Film.Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

There has never been a film called "The Quest for Karla" - the page exists because the three books in the trilogy (currently) share Literature.The Quest For Karla so it's an easy shortcut to the film.

To me, that feels like a cutlist candidate - or am I being too ruthless?

(There's a separate proposal to hard split the three books anyway)

This originated from my comment to the TLP draft "Isekai". Specifically, currently Isekai is redirected to Trapped in Another World, but significant numbers of works considered in Isekai isn't trapped in another world, but Reincarnate in Another World, the latter of which is not listed as a subtrope of Trapped in Another World. This would cause certain difficulties.

I suggest one of the following:

1. List Reincarnate in Another World as a subtrope of Trapped in Another World, or
2. Make Isekai a disambig page to the two tropes above.

Which one is preferable?

I'd say we'd want a Portal Fantasy super trope for just travelling to other worlds in general, and Isekai can go there.

Edit... And that's actually a Trapped in Another World redirect. I would like that to actually be a different page instead of a redirect. But no other ideas from me.

Revisiting this one:

Series.The Quest For Karla has also been created as a redirect, leading to Series.Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. That doesn't feel right, as The Quest for Karla was never used as a series name - or a name for a single book, for that matter, as it's the title of the trilogy as a whole.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is adapted from the first book - but Series.Smileys People is adapted from the third book, so has just as strong a case for a redirect destination.

Any objection if I cut both the Series and the Film redirects before the inbounds start increasing?

Incomplete Monster is currently redirecting to Reluctant Monster. It's obviously a pun on Complete Monster, but we just woke up so it's not immediately obvious whether this redirect target makes sense.

aye, if it’s not the title they shoulsn’t be redirects.

Not sure what Semantic Syllepsis should be. Whether a disambig or something else, since it seems only Wikipedia's Type 4 is the one that fits our Double Meaning?

And if anyone's watching this thread, on "Isekai", just as an FYI, it's listed on CommonlyMisusedWords.Moderately Pedantic.

Raceblind Casting currently redirects to Ability Over Apperearance— can i change it to point at Colorblind Casting instead?

the isekai issue sounds like a missing supertrope...? like theres a basic concept of "person from our world goes to a fantasy land", and Trapped in Another World is being used to cover all variants, whether they involve being trapped physically or not

- Probably Portal Fantasy, which is currently redirect, but can be replaced by a launched TLP draft if anyone makes it?

Request for Kessler Syndrome (real-life term...) to be made a redirect for Dangerous Orbital Debris (...for this trope).

Any ideas for a redirect to Paranormal Gambling Advantage, that expands it beyond gambling? Because Yu-Gi-Oh! isn't strictly gambling? Or is it?

Paranormal Gaming Advantage sounds too vague, while Paranormal Cheater also sounds sorta like it could fit an adulter.

Request for the correctly-spelled Minuscule Rocking to redirect to Miniscule Rocking.

Not sure how I'd go about fixing the title of the trope itself, but bluelinking the correct spelling is a good first step.

We have moved misspelled pages over to their correct titles before. The incorrect title becomes a redirect for inbound purposes.

Yes, I remember Role Reprisal -> Role Reprise particularly well, especially because it just got a reprise of its own this past week.

“Miniscule” has been used so much, in the US at least, that it’s become an accepted spelling of the word.

Main.Visual Novel is singular (obviously). Subpages, however, are plural, such as Funny.Visual Novels, NightmareFuel.Visual Novels, etc. Because of this, if you want to be able to get to a subpage directly from Main.Visual Novel, that subpage needs to have a singular redirect.

Many, however do not: From Main.Visual Novel, when you click the "More" button to display more subpages, the only "A" subpage is Abusive Parents. But if you click a subpage (such as Funny.Visual Novels) and then click "More" again, there are 11 "A" subpages, indicating that 10 of them don't have singular redirects. Is it okay to make these for easier navigation?
