MOD NOTE: TROPES BLANKET-BANNED FROM HAVING VIDEO EXAMPLES:
- Attempted Rape
- Bound and Gagged
- Epileptic Flashing Lights
- Jump Scare
- Nocturnal Emission
- Pooping Where You Shouldn't
- Potty Failure
- Sensory Abuse
- Screamer Prank
It's been discussed a lot at the Video Uploading thread that a lot of poor videos are slipping through the cracks, and that a clean-up effort is necessary if we are to combat the problem.
Common issues are:
- Videos spoiling major events from a work
- Videos not actually fitting the trope they're attached to
- Videos in which the important part doesn't happen until halfway through, with the length being ultimately pointless
- Videos that use the entire work, breaking copyright; this can be done either with one video showcasing an entire short video, or multiple videos that add up to using the entire work in piecemeal.
- Videos lacking the proper media source, or any media source at all.
- General quality problems, like audio issues or artifacting.
So, we've got our work cut out for us; but this is at least a place to discuss problems and come to solutions.

I'm still a bit skeptical on uploading videos from MovieClips as they have a very noticeable watermark.

Well, from what I looked up, Fandango/Movieclips receives their trailers from film distributors so that sounds "official" to me and they are a reputable movie ticketing company. Watermarks and channel bugs do look ugly whether they are official or not though yeah.

Macron's notesThis is gonna sound dumb, but how does anyone deal with crackly audio? All I have are my laptop and headphones, everything's been going smoothly except for this one bit from a comic dub that I'm trying to get. It records fine, but then when I play it to trim it, there's always one bit that's slightly crackly. I don't think it's nearly bad enough to get it pulled outright, but it's still annoying me.
Sandbox help wanted.I've always just brute forced my way through by recording more takes until the audio fixes itself, or by recording multiple takes and splicing them together. It's a pain in the ass, but that's the only way I know how to fix it, and some of my early videos still have some minor audio wonk.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessK so I did the thing, I just need to find out how to upload videos. The Sandbox tells me to go to the Edit Page button and click on Upload Video, but there's nothing there.
Sandbox help wanted.I made the sandbox more clear. You need to click “Edit Videos” within the Edit Page screen (or the Video Examples screen) first.
So I've noticed something regarding No Video Examples, Please!. Namely the fact that Jump Scare has video examples blanket banned due to health concerns, but Screamer Prank doesn't.
Isn't that asking for trouble? I would've thought that someone could upload a screamer as bad as a jump scare under that trope, but that'd be OK because the rules don't cover Screamer Prank?

We can choose to be better.I think that's because we don't want to also ban in-universe examples like the one from The Amazing World of Gumball, but there's still a lot more Jump Scare type ones. I agree with you that not making them NVEP is probably more trouble than it's worth, even if no one's added a screamer yet in over 2 years.

Sandbox help wanted. In the past, we did originally consider Screamer Prank to be NVEP, but following a TRS discussion, we stripped it out.
That's one thing I wouldn't mind returning to NVEP status. The ones I was campaigning against were things like the gore tropes, where it just felt a little silly and over-protective to worry about those.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessShall we agree the same on Sensory Abuse as well, because we considered it to be a possible NVEP trope?
Yeah, Sensory Abuse also makes perfect sense. I think anything that could cause actual harm to viewers is valid for NVEP.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI think both Sensory Abuse and Screamer Prank should marked NVEP. Better to add them now than have them collect videos later.
Macron's notesIs there a way for a video to be marked as an example of more than one trope, without uploading a duplicated video?
Ultimate Secret WarsAdd the other trope in the media sources, and it'll be listed as a secondary trope on the video example.
Question, is a gif like this too fast to have as a video example? It's all black and white, and the OP didn't tag it as #flashing gif like they do for other things, but I wanted to double check just in case.

Sandbox help wanted.Ideally, you'd edit the video where possible to better showcase one trope over the other. If you can't do that, you can add another trope as a media source to be a "Secondary Trope".
Yeah, too fast. But gifs are allowed in Image Links, so you can upload it there.

There's a video on Designated Hero from from a youtube reviewer on My Little Pony: A New Generation that comes across as the reviewer deliberately misrepresenting the work. Now, if their representation were true, it would fit, but I'm not sure we should use that type of thing as video examples at all. IDK though, maybe someone else who has seen the movie can watch the video and give a second opinion?
SoundCloudI just realized the Does This Remind You of Anything? example I uploaded from Mickey Mouse (2013) has birds chirping in the background. Do I need to re-record the video, or is it not bothersome enough to get the video pulled?
Sandbox help wanted.I didn't hear anything that didn't sound like it came from the video, so it should be fine.
SoundCloudUltimate Custom Night has a video example that is misuse, and appears from the description to be complaining.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”How is it misuse? Overly Long Gag is about a joke in which the humor comes from its excessive length, and that’s pretty much the joke about Mr. Hippo’s monologues; they’re unskippable and go on for an excessively long period of time. The description doesn’t really come off as complain-y to me either.
back lolI see no humour.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”Maybe you don't, but it's still meant as a joke.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)There's a video example from Bluey that is listed under Woolseyism. Judging from what's inside (a clip from the French dub where a character that was speaking French in the original version is now speaking English), I think it would fit better under Keep It Foreign.
The best character is always the one-shot disguise.
I am pretty sure.
